Spicy mayo rice hotpot with beef and kimchi
    Kristen P.

When I'm in Burnaby I will make sure I visit DooBoo! The best selection of Korean hotpots in the area. I will get their spicy mayo rice hotpot with beef, always a good choice. If you want spicy try the seafood kimchi stew, it has the kick you are looking for! Service is always pleasant. It seems to be family owned and both times I've been during off hours, the family is enjoying their lunch break. Not a problem at all was nice to join them! Highly recommended.

It's raining season in Vancouver, which means we are constantly craving for hot soup and Dooboo never let me down with their signature tofu soup. I often get a tofu soup with pork or kimchi. If you eat there, they will give you a raw egg as an option to mix in with the soup for richer flavour. Another favourite dish of mine is their kim chi fried rice. As an Asian growing up in Asia, I have tried many fried rice including home made and fancy restaurants, but oh man this fried rice is of another level! My mouth is literally watering now thinking about it. My partner likes their tteokbokki with cheese and chicken and their grilled ribs. Most of their dish, you can adjust the spiciness level so don't worry if you can't handle too much heat. The restaurant temperature is quite cold in general and it's the only small inconvenience. Check them out and you won't be disappointed!

Comfort home cooked style Korean place in south Burnaby. Attentive service and feels family run and inviting. They have delicious cold noodles, tofu hot pot and other delicious staples like japchae. Recently we had the KFC in honey garlic flavour and it was a bit toooo much garlic. A bit overpowering. And the chicken was a bit undercooked. And our bulgogi beef was over cooked so that it felt on the jerky side texture. All in all I would still come back but maybe not for the kfc to be safe.

Fantastic authentic Korean restaurant. Great selection of meats and soups. My group tried the soondooboo, kalbi, spicy pork, pork belly, chicken salad, all of which were fantastic. Parking is limited, and service can be slow. Understaffed and seating is limited. No reservations.

Tasty Korean place by Hastings and Griffiths. Parking is available in the tiny lot in front. There are only 4 or so spots. Try the side streets instead. Place looks relatively modern. Staff were friendly and quick. This place serves 3 appetizers. There was kimchi, turnip and jalapenos in soy sauce, and marinated bean curd strips. Tasty. The beef kimchi stew is pretty good. Comes with rice and the stone bowl that the rice was cooked in. There is the option to pour tea into the stone bowl. The rice then comes off easily (soft and somewhat mushy) instead of hard and crunchy (which is then chipped off with a spoon). My only complaint is that the food portions here are snack sized. I left hungry, even with an appetizer refill.

Should have been 3 stars considering the service and the space, but decided in the end, food quality made this high "potential" restaurant back into a 2 star! Soft Tofu Soup - Seafood $12.99 2 stars My "Seafood" Sundobu was consist mainly of very tiny shrimps and clams ( both of the frozen varieties ), yes, I know 99.9% of Korean Tofu Soups uses frozen seafoods, but their quality is the lowest as both shrimps and clams are extremely tiny. At first when I use my spoon to stir my soup I thought they had forgotten to put in the seafood. Most places may include a few cuts of squid, one mussel, sometimes a lone scallop etc. but non was found in my "Seafood Sundobu" sad! Oh well, I guess that's the way it is with today's high food cost. Kimchi Stew - Seafood $12.99 2 stars Ditto from my description from above just add Kimchi... Banchan - 1 star For obvious reasons seen on photos. Final Score: 1.66 stars Verdict: Recommend (if you live in the area, also order other ingredients other than "seafood".) Otherwise, not worth the drive!

A majority of American Yelpers were claiming this Korean restaurant was a gem. It actually was a good place to have dinner on a chilly night. The different types of tofu soups were welcoming, knowing we could let the server know how spicy we wanted and the type of meat to have. The Sweet and Spicy Chicken with salad could be a full meal instead of an appetizer with you ordered a cup of rice with the dish. Jop Chae noodles, Chicken bulgogi, and Kimchee pancake were ordered to go. If you need anything extra, don't expect the servers to see how you are doing. You will need to wave them over to get their attention (Korean method). Once you are done, they won't bring the check to you. You will need to go to the main counter and point to your table and they will provide the invoice, and take cash or credit on the spot. Parking is really bad in a small lot shared by 3 other business. It's best to park on the street if you can. Overall, this was a good experience, especially if you are craving a satisfying comfort soup meal on a chilly evening.

After playing a few hours of tennis, we were starving and needed some food to refuel. We decided to check out DooBoo, a Korean restaurant that neither of us had heard of, but was nearby. We dropped in on a Sunday afternoon (around 1:45pm) and the place was packed. Service was odd for a Korean spot; they were slow, didn't offer any banchan refills and it was difficult to get water/tea cups refilled. They're super stingy with the rice; we ordered a combo but they only gave us one bowl to share (that wasn't even filled to the top). It was a strange because the waitress originally grabbed both our bowls to fill but then she checked with one of the older waitresses and proceeded to fill just the one. Bizarre. The menu is split into appetizers, mains, combos and specials. A small two page menu but beware, prices are higher than the norm. - Banchan - sliced fish cake, kimchi and pickled daikon with onion. All the side dishes were solid, especially the sliced fish. Unfortunately, our waitress never offered any refills. - Soup & bulgogi ($20.99) - we went with combo A and opted for the beef tofu soup (spicy) and spicy pork bulgogi. Their tofu soup came out piping hot. Tofu pieces were soft and the broth had good flavour but there was barely any beef. Again, really stingy. Spicy pork bulgogi was nicely seasoned and slightly spicy but it was a small, small portion. Decent food but portions are tiny and pricey. Not on our must return list with so many other Korean spots in the area. 2.5 stars.

    Spicy soft tofu soup

Went to DooBoo today cuz I was craving soft tofu soup. This place is good. People tell me that their service is terrible, but I haven't had such an experience yet. I ordered the soft tofu soup spicy and it was good. My mom ordered the kimchi stew and it was a tad salty which they refuted it up and it was better. However, when they did that I'm guessing it burnt the kimchi inside and the whole soup tasted burnt. They didn't hesitate and took it off the bill. I haven't had any major problems with this place so I will continue to come here. The waitresses are pretty too lol good food and good company!

Service was pretty quick when I visited, wasn't too busy with about three other tables of diners. Food-wise: their prices and portions are quite reasonable but I have yet to discover my favorite menu item or their best dishes as taste for bulgogi was just okay. Overall, their weekday lunch special is good value. Though their food on my first visit wasn't especially memorable, their spacious interior + modern ambience + efficient service + good value and free parking brings them up from 3.5 stars to a 4 stars rating since this is a place I would definitely consider visiting again to try other dishes. And I am hopeful about finding items to my liking because they offer a fairly diverse food and drinks menu.

It's simply decorated with Soju bottles or posters of Korean pop stars or actors. Love the casual and laid back vibe! There is a bell on the table if you need attention from the servers, and they are usually pretty efficient and fast when it is rung. We saw that there was a $9.99 combo deal and everyone at our table was shocked. We all ordered that. The combo comes with your choice of a noodle dish (Jajangmyeon or Black Bean noodles, Korean udon, or Spicy Cold noodles) and a Beef Bulgogi on the side. I ordered the Jajangmyeon with the Beef Bulgogi and it was great! I enjoyed the nice chew from the noodles and the Black Bean sauce was flavoured well. I was pleased to find chunks of pork in the noodles also. The Beef Bulgogi was a little watery, but tasted sweet and tender. All that food for $9.99. That's unheard of in this economy and in these times! Amazing. We'll definitely return as we saw other great deals on the menu also!

I dont really like jambong, so I'm super glad 88 noodle house lets you choose 2 jjajangmyeon! Perfect combo. For the meat dish, you can get tangsuyuk or gganpunggi. We chose the gganpunggi (sweet chili chicken). Jjajangmyeon was ok. Nothing too special about it. Good portions. The gganpunggi was also a good portion! However, I found that it was mostly batter, and since they use a mix of tapioca starch and other as breading, it gets jello-y when not completely cooked. The flavor was really good, but I was disappointed with the batter to chicken ratio. I will continue my search for this type of combo!

We always get the black bean noodles. Flavour is consistent, tasty, and it comes out quick and hot from the kitchen. We rotate between the sweet chili chicken and the sweet and sour pork. This time we got the sweet chili chicken. Flavour is good and comes piping hot and crispy. However, I did find the breading a bit heavy and there is a lot of fat in the layers. Same goes for the sweet and sour pork. I love their coating and the flavour is great, but sometimes I just get a coated piece of fat which is a bit off-putting. We also like the japchae, but find it has a bit too much onion for us. Ok cold nights we like to get the 88 noodle soup. Hot, peppery, slightly spicy. Goes well with the pickles they give you. Service is always quick and polite. No issues there. And the seating is spacious with lots of booth seating.
