This place used to be solid but the quality and quantity has gone downhill. I ordered an order of the LA Galbi short ribs for pick up for $29.99. Pick up went smoothly. Upon getting home I opened up the food package and there is basically 3 pieces of the thinest short ribs ever. I know prices have gone up but for 3 small thin pieces of short ribs, this was a complete rip off for $30 plus 3 ban chans and a side of rice. Last time coming here as rather spend $40 and get a decent portion of LA Galbi short ribs. read more

I have been to this location a few times over the years - and each time I told myself it would be the last - but somehow someone in the group would always want to go here - They have there own parking lot - and a lot of additional parking along Kingsway and the side streets - The decor is super out of date, and a little random - seating was honestly a little uncomfortable - they were playing some KPOP OST - so at least that fits the theme. Servers were not attentive - and you may have a hard time getting some service - so try to get all the things you need in one go. Beer was good - but that's cause it's bottled - Seafood pancake didn't have much seafood - a lot of onions to be frank - pancake fell apart upon lifting - no crisp to the cake - snow cheese chicken was a big miss - the chicken was crispy , however the cheese was like KD thrown on top - not balanced and not tasty - Too many other Korean spots nearby - that I'd advise you skip this one or at least tread with caution - read more

I haven't been to JMJ in years! Decided to swing by after a cold night out. There is parking for the restaurant and it wasn't busy when I went. Ordered a whole bunch of dishes and it came out fairly quick. Everything I ordered was good and just like how I remembered it. The service was good as well. No lag time with what we needed. Their kimchi isn't as spicy as other places but it was still good. The Gamja-Tang was nice and hot. Could use a little more flavour but overall hit the spot. Seafood pancake was loaded! The other sides were standard. Japchae was good! They're open late too. Perfect for a late night date! read more

The set meal we had was the galbi shortbrib and the seafood pancake. For $49 it was good value and we find the food quite good quality. If you ignore the lack of any recent update on the actual premises - it is good. The service also excellent, they always checked on us if we needed more sides. read more

OG Jmb! Haven't been here in over a decade and it hasn't changed. Traditional Korean comfort food when it's cold out. Always busy but there's so many staff, that you don't get forgotten at all. They really take care of you. Decor is nothing fancy. Just a family run and owned joint. We had a combo with the traditional pork neck soup, seafood pancake and the LA galbi ribs. Lots of meat on the pork neck and soup was tasty. The banchan was good. They kept checking on us to refill without us asking. The seafood pancake was alright. Really enjoy the ribs. Super tender and tasty. The combo is only $72 (10% off) and was plenty to feed 3 people plus had leftovers for a lunch the next day. read more

A place to get authentic and comforting Korean food. Service is often pretty quick here. I like their Korean fried chicken and soups. I also like how their menu allows you to choose the level of spiciness, which is great if you have low spice tolerance or if you want to try spicier food! Recommendations: * soups * stir fry squid * Korean fried chicken read more

This place has become our go to place on our lazy weekday night. They have good combo options where you can get a pork bone soup hot pot + japchae for $48. We usually take home the japchae for lunch the next day. The portion size and price are decent so it naturally became our new go to place. We have come back 3 times so far since it reopened after Covid. The staff are attentive and refills our side dishes. Their pork bone soup actually has a lot of meat! A lot of places nowadays have more bones than meat. Definitely worth the money. read more

Pretty good place to drink and eat. The seafood pancake was really good and the drinks are priced decently

We ordered the combo set D with 4 items -- gamja tang, grilled beef, seafood pancake and the jap chae. They were more than enough to feed 4 of us. We also had the peach soju (yums) and makkoli. They were so good, and did not taste that alcoholic. All the 4 dishes we had were delicious and the place got busier after 6 pm. The only drawback would be service. It was hard to get the staff's attention once the food was delivered. The table was also pretty small to accommodate the 4 dishes plus our bowls and plates and the drinks. Parking is available. Just register your car plate number with the staff though they said it was ok when I tried to do that, and did not take down the info. Still, check with them in case it was a one off thing when I was there. read more

Clean, spacious, reasonable price, good portion of food. We came in a random weekday for early dinner. There were already several tables of customers. The Korean server was nice, he took the initiative to refill the Banchan, the Korean small side dishes. We ordered Jeuk-seok Bulgogi, come with two bowls of rice. It's delicious, and we will come back. read more

I was here with 3 other people last Sunday (March 31st) and we ordered Mandu Jeongol $30.88 (Dumplings hot pot) to share. It was big enough for us to eat. Meat tasted good, but the dish was just average. The dish itself tasted kinds sweet like Bulgogi. Banchan (=sidedish) consisted of Kimchi, potato, spicy radish (Kkakdoogi) and beansprouts; Kimchi didn't taste good though. Service was slow. I could've gone to much better Korean restaurant, but a friend wanted to go and I couldn't turn her down. We had another friend C to join us while 3 of us ate; staff took so long to bring her water. We had to wave at staff few times to get her attention. Nothing good to write about. Food was alright so I'm giving 2 stars. read more

Fire had closed this long standing restaurant during early Covid. Now cleaned up a little with newer menu and new management. Food is pretty good and the servers are efficient but some of them smile a little more. They have the red cap soju but a lot of other Korean restaurants don't. Drives me bananas. I am not sure why. They cost the same. The food comes out fast. The soju and the beer even faster. read more

This used to be one of the Knight and Day restaurants back in my youngling days and ever since they all disappeared, Jang Mo Jib took over and been frequenting this place since day one. The place is decently spacious, services have been a bit better after lockdown, and food is consistent for a fair price. This is my go to restaurant whenever I want some casual Korean food for a fair price later at night. Here were the food we ordered during our last visit; 1. Tong galbi (bbq'ed traditional Korean short rib). As always, tender, tasty and well bbq'ed. 2. Go deung Eo Gui (grilled Norwegian mackerel). Pretty basic but I like it with my rice and kimchi. 3. Cheese snow chicken (deep fried chicken with cheese seasoning). Pretty good and as always for most well done Korean fried chicken, they are moist and juicy! 4. Gamja tang. This is the dish I mainly come here for, unfortunately, this time they replaced the dried vegetables with Napa cabbage! I have tried pretty most the low to high end Koreans in the lower mainland and this place by far has the better gamja-tang. The flavour, all the ingredients and the tenderness of the meat are just right. 5. Side dishes, fresh and love their kimchi. Overall, the food is decent and consistent along with a pretty fair price tag compared to many other Korean restaurants. And their services have been an improvement so that's a bonus. I would recommend this place if you want some decent Korean food and drinks for a reasonable price or have a craving for some good gamja-tang. Solid 3 stars for its decently good food for an affordable price. read more

I don't know what happened. They close down during Covid and re-opened about 4 months ago. I went back 2x since. I don't know what happened...everything sucked! The pork bone soup was watered down and not flavourful. The japchai was tasteless and the meat inside was hard. The seafood pancake was soggy and 80% flour dough yuk!!! The only good thing was the beef ribs. Even the appetizer sucked!!! No flavour texture was way off!! Disgusting!!! Gave them a chance 2x and no more! What happened?????? read more

This used to be knight and day restaurant that bit the dust. Big spacious restaurant that does need some major renovations. Service was ok but they don't have the buzzer that signals the waiters. Extensive food menu but small drink menu. The bonus is this place opens late when others nearby are closed. I like the beef ribs they were tender, juicy and well seasoned. Most of the food was not bad and well priced. read more

I used to dine out here frequently before I moved to Toronto and it provided the most decent pork bone soup countrywide. Came here with a long time no see friend who is visiting Vancouver. So decided to eat in Burnaby which is close to her place. We came here and ordered the AAA beef ribs and the bulgogi and a soup to share. It was very delicious. Very strong BBQ taste. This place is very authentic according to another friend. But I have noticed most of the people who dine here are not Korean. Price is ok. There are plenty of parking outside in their parking lot. But you have to chase down a waitress if you ever need anything. So service here is ok and is not that great. Would I come back. Yeah if I am in the hood. Since I don't know many Korean restaurants. read more

I remember this was a popular choice amongst my mon's friends as I was growing up, and finally got to try it last weekend. We were originally going to another restaurant nearby, but it was closed so Jang Mo Jib was an emergency choice for lunch. My boyfriend and I ordered the spicy chicken (pictured) as it's a pretty popular item along the West Coast lately, particularly in LA. They first provide a gas stove for your table (tables don't have built in grills/stoves), and the stove we got was pretty dirty which was quite unappetizing to look at before our meal. Thankfully, the pot that the actual dish arrived in was quite large, which blocked the view of the stove as we were eating. The dish itself was quite underwhelming. We ordered medium spicy but couldn't taste the spice at all. The sauce had good flavour, but it's similar to a regular ddeokbeokki sauce so nothing special about it. It was fun to play around with the cheese but if you dip anything in it, the cheese will overwhelm all other flavours. The corn was really sticky (?), not juicy or fresh. Service was the typical take your order and bring you food type. It was hard to flag down people as well. What really turned me off was they only offer 3 options for tip: 12%, 15%, and 20%. They don't allow you to choose your own amount nor skip the tip option, so you HAVE to select one of the three when paying with card! All in all, not worth checking this place out. read more

Burnaby has got it's Korean game on point! And Jang Mo Jib has certainly contributed to this food scene. Having lunch during this rainy day was certainly enjoyable with a hot boiling tofu stew, sizzling pork plate, and crisping dumplings! The tofu stew consists of a variety of seafood from squid to shrimp, and the hint of sea freshness transpires throughout the dish. And the fatty pork neck meat was served on the sizzling plate with lots of yummy meaty juices. The fried dumplings had fillings with equal parts of meat and cut chives that went well with the dipping sauce. Each bite was a joy and we left with our stomachs full and satisfied smiles. A restaurant with a long history that's waiting for you to discover! read more

Jang Mo Jib - Korean Near Me - Burnaby, British Columbia

I remember I enjoyed my dinner at Jang Mo Jib when we went a while ago. We revisited this place recently and I was truly disappointed. Service in the beginning was good but went the opposite near the end. The quality of the food was not as great as I remembered it to be. We ordered the Dol Sot Bee Bim Bahb (bibimbap in hot stone bowl), Jok Bahl (BBQ pork feet), Jab Che, Hae Mool Pah Jun (seafood pancake), and Ssuk Uh Soon Doo Boo (assorted seafood in tofu soup). Side dishes were standard: kimchi, radish, potatoes, bean sprouts. They only had 4 side dishes, which were less than what other korean restaurants offered. Nevertheless, they were tasty. But some of the bean sprouts had black spots on them, so they were a little unappetizing. The BBQ pork feet were hard and didn't have any flavour to them. Even though there were sauces on the side, they didn't help much. I've definitely tasted better pork feet elsewhere. The bibimbap in hot stone bowl didn't have the "hot stone bowl" feel to it. Usually, the rice on the bottom would burn because of it but we didn't have any of that. This meant that the stone bowl was probably not hot enough. As a result, I didn't have the crunch of the burnt rice I was looking for. I thought the Jab che was way too oily. I understand that a fair amount of oil is needed to make this dish, but the noodles were literally reflecting the light above, it was really oily. The dish was big but flavour was okay. We enjoyed the seafood pancake and the assorted seafood in tofu soup the most. The pancake was crispy as I bit into it and it had lots of ingredients. The tofu soup also had an abundance of seafood in it. It was flavourful and the tofu itself was good too. Unfortunately, the dishes were too salty overall. All of us were very thirsty when we got home. We also felt we were being rushed to leave. Servers always walked by our table and give us a look. At the end, they actually brought over a trolley with bins on them to clear our table, even though we weren't ready to leave yet. The restaurant was half empty when this happened, so I wasn't sure why they were rushing us to leave. We concluded that we will not be returning due to a decline in the quality of their food. read more

Sorry I prefer other Korean restaurants in Burnaby. Was not impressed with their service and food was just OK. I have definitely had better Korean foods. The lady who took my order may have been super senior or the owner's wife as she is bossy and not friendly. First, she wouldn't let us change seat when I explained that the location is not comfortable. But she was like there is only 2 of you and the table is saved for bigger groups of 4 ppl. Second, she took our order and failed to repeat the order. When the food came, she ordered 2 of the same beef dishes for us rather than just 1. So in total, we had 3 dishes. The worst part was she insisted that we made an ordering mistake and wanted us to eat and pay for both beef dishes. There is only 2 of us, we are both girls...why would we have ordered 3 beef dishes and how can we finish it? The husband owner showed up and graciously took the extra beef dish away. It's sad when customer service is not valued in a restaurant, especially when there are so many better Korean restaurants in the area. Truly, apart from the poor service, the food would not have attracted me back. I would send my friends to other Korean restaurants on Kingsway or further down on Imperial Street. Not going back to this place. read more

Wait, why are the reviews so bad here? I guess Canadians seriously have some high ass standards for Korean food. +pork cheese bossam: so much better than the ones in LA wow! meat is deliciously flavored and not dry, and they give you a decent amount of sides that circle the pot (ahem looking at you mr bossam...) for those who don't know, bossam is a meat dish served in a clay pan, eaten with cheese and sides like tofu and rice cake on the side. in LA, they mix rice into it when you're almost done to soak up the juice and also so they can give you less meat lol. but here, we didn't even finish the meat! they actually gave us an adequate amount wow! +dutch pork foot: never had it in this presentation before, they're sliced thinly and easy to eat as appetizer. there's not big bone in the way like chinese people typically eat it. this dish also comes with korean paste and jalapenos, and it's simple yet delicious +tofu: my grandma said this was good and didn't offer to share so i'll take her word for it lol +sweet and spicy chicken wings: not bad, but definitely not the best I've ever had. it has the required flavors but not sweet nor spicy enough. no kick. +glass noodles: didn't have them this time around, but my mom said they were bomb last time she came SO OK YAY i'm like seriously so confused why people don't like this place. definitely will be back next time i'm in north vancouver. read more

If u are just after some traditional Korean food then you should definitely give this place a try. They offer a good variety of soups and hot pots that come both in individual size and bigger size which is good to be shared amongst a group of 4-5 ppl. They also have BBQ dishes which are made ready so you don't have to be concerned with the smell on your clothes. One of the pot dish we order regularly is the slow cooked short rib. It's so soft and well braised so the meat comes off easily from the bone. The flavour is a bit on the sweet side but that works well on this dish. The restaurant also has a location on west end of Robson and offers Karaoke in the room. But the food, though come from the same menu, doesn't taste as good as the Kingsway one for some reason. Btw, this location offers free parking on the side of the building. read more

We are from Washington and have never had Korean food before. We decided to go way outside our comfort zone and try it! Served Family style, and very authentic - we ordered little spice wings, BBQ short ribs, soup, dumplings, seafood pancake & all the sides. Everything was good. Wings are a HANDS DOWN MUST to order. They were gone in about 2 minutes. So so good. Short ribs excellent and dumplings were very fresh, didn't taste like frozen! Seafood pancake also good and very fresh tasting. Everything is great and I don't understand why the low reviews. Both my kids ate and loved everything. Hubs tried the kimchee radishes and fell in love. Great place!!!! read more

Ordered galbi hot pot which has beef, noodles, rice cakes, veggies and more. The broth is the best: sweet and savory! Very comforting. You can even have it topped up. The hot pot comes with rice too. We got sizzling squid on the side, which you can choose to be spicy or not. Of course, the usual Korean meal side dishes were served. Serving size is good enough for 3 averagely hungry people. Price wise it's $$ for me. Customer service was fast and crew were all courteous (plus plus points!) Overall, it's not surprising that they were voted to be Burnaby's Best Korean restaurant in 2017. "Eek! Methinks not" is right! Absolutely terrible service - actually, WHAT service? I went with a party of 8 (including myself), got seated pretty quickly (okay, so far so good). Doesn't bring us water. Yikes. Thinking it was self service, I went to go ask for some water, which the server said they "forgot" and will give us water. We were basically the only ones there, is it that hard to forget? She gave us one bottle for 8 people. 8 people. 1 bottle. I don't know if I'm pouring too much water in cups or something, someone give me some tips on water rationing. We order, sake (8 cups) and a can of coke. Brings 6 cups and doesn't bring the other drink until I go up to the counter again to ask for the drink. When we went up to pay, I found the staff chatting behind the divider, no one at the register.
