Have had Daan Korean Cuisine bookmarked for awhile. It's around the corner from Uncle Sal's Shawarma. We dropped in on a Monday (11:30am), which filled up quickly for lunch. Like how they leave multiple tea pots and water on the tables. 24 items on the menu; appetizers, KFC, BBQ hot plate, rice & noodle and soup & stews. Banchan can be refilled once for free. We opted for medium spice (which was extremely mild). - Banchan - glazed potatoes (standard), kimchi (good kick) and bean sprouts (refreshing). - Seafood pancake ($25.99 large) - decent. - Chicken wings ($10.99) and boneless chicken balls ($11.99 for 7) - wings were standard, balls didn't have much of a crispy bite. - Pork bone hotpot ($37.99 small) - came with two bowls of rice. Reasonable amount of pork with a few potatoes, jalapeños and green onions. Broth was light and lacked depth. - Galbi beef short-rib hot plate ($29.99) - came with a salad. Short ribs were tender and juicy. - Bulgogi stir fried udon ($16.99) - the udon didn't have much texture, sauce wasn't satisfying. Resto is a small place inside the Blundell mall. It has lots of parking spaces so it's convenient. Interior is modern. Best Korean restaurant in Richmond so far. Been here quite a few times now and kalbi is not too sweet and seafood pancake has the right amount of crunch to it so it's not like munching a piece of flour pancake. Food - deliciousness! Spicy, flavourful, aromatic and steaming hot and fresh. Ambience - it's small, tables are close together, and it can get loud. Service - the one waitress was amazing, friendly and efficient. But the restaurant was packed - and the poor girl was the only one working the floor of 10-12 tables at 12:00pm. This is a very popular Korean eatery near my neighbourhood, they have been busy since the first day they opened their door, and I have consciously stayed away to avoid the crowd. After doing some housework & yard work to get ready for summer, I got lazy to make dinner, and thought it would be a great opportunity to try out Daan, since its only 5:00pm, I hope there is no line up yet! Arriving at the restaurant, I was happy to see that there are only 2 tables with customers, the restaurant itself is very small but I really like their decor and set up, very clean & compact, good use of space. We decided to give their Gamjatang ( Pork Bone Soup ) a try, as this is a very popular dish to be shared. We checked with our very gracious server and she assured us that the small will be good for the 2 of us. After about 15mins. the soup came and the size is pretty substantial for a small size, ( they also have a larger size ). The restaurant uses Sterno to keep the soup warm, I would hope they use a proper gas stove in winter, as the Sterno heater will not be hot enough for a larger size pot and especially in winter. First sip of the soup: flavourful, but not substantial, it lacks the flavour of a rich pork bone stock that has been slow boiled to reach that stage, Daan's version is more of a lighter version. As we asked for "Spicy" I see that they have added extra jalapeños both chopped and sliced on top of the bones. I have to say the pork bones themselves are cooked to perfection but the potatoes need at least 15 more minutes as its still hard in the centre. Banchan comes in a small dish with 3 varieties, the best tasting is the stewed potatoes, I find the Kimchee a tad on the salty side and the Sukjunamul-muchim lacks seasoning. Overall, I would see this as a good neighbourhood eatery, if you are lazy that day to make lunch or dinner, come and enjoy the clean and neat interior and have some home style Korean meal at a very reasonable price!! read more

My go-to Korean dish to order is spicy seafood tofu soup. This is my second time here and the Korean food at Daan is solid. However the nook is a bit cramped as that is where I was sitting that day. The server could barely get passed me with her cart. We also noticed a piece of hair in our side dishes. I'm not sure if they are already using hairnets in the kitchen. Pick-up was covid friendly :) For 2 people, we ordered 3 things and had a little bit of leftovers; paid ~$40CAD -Bossam (small): boiled pork belly that you can wrap in steamed nappa cabbage and put these different toppings on it (such as kimchi, garlic slices, soybean sauce thing)! My favorite dish we ordered! So much flavor and goodness in this and I really enjoyed the process of putting each bite together -Sweet & Spicy fried chicken wings: if I had these fresh, I'm sure they would have been even better! There is SO much flavor and spiciness to this- definitely worth getting. -Seafood Tofu soup: this was a tad too salty for me but I was happily surprised to find the seafood flavor shine through so well! The restaurant is small but the tables were well spaced out and did not feel overcramped. Galbi Beef Short Ribs - soo tasty but the dish had a lot of bones without meat and only a few pieces of beef 3/5 Soy Garlic Chicken Wings - 6 pieces very moist, I know it's soy garlic but there was way too many bits of garlic on the wings for me. The chicken was cooked perfectly so I'd order it again anyway 4/5 Seafood Tofu Stew - came out piping hot and warmed me from my belly out. Lots of octopus and tofu 5/5 Seafood Pancake - a good balance of seafood to pancake. We visited Daan for a late dinner on a Monday and it wasn't very busy. The seafood pancake was a bit on the thicker side for me but still tasty with a good crunchy exterior. The seafood tofu soup was surprisingly good! The bulgogi was pretty tasty as well with thin slices of flavourful beef. The only item that wasn't as great as I expected were the spicy boneless chicken balls. These had a good flavour to them but too much breading and filler and not much chicken inside which was disappointing. I'd pass on this next time. read more

I did go by a few times and there was a line up and because there are a lot of other options on the area I haven't had a chance to give it a shot. We came in for lunch today for dine-in. Service was a bit slow, but I can see the reason due to many take out orders. Food portion to prices value is reasonable. However, most of the food we ordered are not to our taste. Maybe some people will like it but we have had better ones before. Pork bones and potato hotpot (s) - not cheap. There are about 5 to 6 pieces in our pot and lots of potato. Soup was a bit bland, and I noticed they used normal napa cabbage for the soup instead of the old kimchi. I feel there is a taste less. Seafood pancake (s) - portion size is good. Small ones can definitely fit for two people or even three. A bit greasy. Soy garlic boneless chicken - breading was too thick for my liking and sauce was too sweet. We eat this dish at the restaurant but it's already feel very soggy. We've actually never tried this soup before, but man, we fell in love with it!! The flavour of the broth was sooo good and the more we ate it, the more we wanted it! I highly recommend it. I would actually rate this place higher just for the pork bone stew, but I need to give an overall review of what we ordered and our experience. Random pick on our way out of Vancouver but so good! One of the better Korean spots I have tried. Very small space, we got pretty lucky that they were able to seat our large group. Mostly set up for parties of 4 or less. We ordered the galbi, bim bim bop, rice cakes, spicy chicken bulgogi, Korean fried chicken wings, and tofu soup. The flavor on everything was spot on and authentic. Portion size on galbi was a little small for the price but hey inflation is hitting everything. I could taste bits of squid tentacles, pollock, and green onions. The KFC wings were delicious! Super crispy on the outside and it wasn't all batter. So flavorful! The beef bibimbap was so good; it had catrots, zucchini, sprouts, beef, radish, spinach, seaweed, and a sunny side up egg, all on rice. The bowl was hot, certainly a great way to eat it as it never got cold, every bite tasted fresh! The portions of the BBQs were large and comes with 3 sides (roasted potatoes, kimchi, sprout/carrot), green salad, and rice. Great meal over all. Service is prompt and friendly. I have wanted to try this Korean place for a long time and I loved everything that we tried and the kind service! We ordered a bibimbap that had loads of veggies and a fried egg on top. The bottom was nice and crispy making a delicious crust. It was extremely flavourful even without the spicy sauce and one of the better bibimbaps i have tried. Also got their spicy chicken which came with rice and a small salad. The spicy chicken was really flavourful but had a little more oil than I like. The spicy flavour was just enough heat but not lingering, the perfect sensation! Their side dishes are also really tasty and come with one refill. Been here twice. Overall a solid Korean Joint that does things competently. Seating is a bit small and cramped, probably could fit 15-20ish people max, so there might be some wait if you're going at peak hours. My one big problem and why its downgraded to a 3 star is that in both times - once during lunch, and once during dinner, I came out smelling like Korean BBQ, even though this is not a K-BBQ joint. finally got the chance to try this newly opened korean place by garden city and blundell in Richmond...been reading a lot of good reviews so i just had to see for myself what the fuzz was all about. its probably the only korean place ive been to that doesnt do table bbq....but its ok, i dont really mind. from the outside, the place looks big, but as soon as you enter, its really a small place. felt cramped and very smoky. ventilation is not adequate; and you can see all the staff members just sweat dripping down their foreheads...the smoke is enough to sting your eyes if you hover too long. a big turn off for me. anyhow, we ordered the soy garlic chicken, sizzling bulgogi, and the bulgogi stew. the chicken was nicely done. seared and served on a sizzling plate. plump and juicy. execution was spot on and the pieces big. the beef bulgogi was also done well. juicy and tender beef the bulgogi flavours of soy, mirin, sesame oil , really coming out. nothing extraordinary but very good. the bulgogi stew came pipping hot with rice cakes and even vermicelli. the taste was more sukiyaki than bulgogi, but by marinade, they are close cousins. important was that it was flavourful and hot. perfect for a cold rainy afternoon. dishes came standard with ban chan, but you can only ask for 1 refill. standard kimchi, sweet potato, & bean sprouts . service was a bit slow, specially if you sat at the corner out of sight by the servers..:( i believe they are still in the soft opening phase right bow judging from how things are being ran. the food was great no complains! there are many more to try and choose from. the bigger stews look really good and huge and can serve 3/4 per order. will try those next. i still left satisfied and stuffed , despite that smoke in your eyes feeling...lol. cheers! happy eating! read more

I was so lucky to snag a seat for 4 people without waiting! Not even joking because this place is tiny but definitely worth the wait. With a limited menu, each dish we ordered was above my expectation. Japchae: This dish stood on its own very well. Perfect balance of sesame oil and soy sauce. The noodles were perfectly chewy and tender. The vegetables and beef soaked up all the sesame oil and it was just so good. The bulgogi on a sizzling plate was seasoned well. Not too salty and the beef was cooked well. All the fat was rendered and it was tender. No hard chewing to do. I came here to try their baby octopus hot pot and trust me, just get the small size if you are ordering other dishes. The dish came with tteokbokki, prawns, mussels, vegetables and of course octopus. Don't order medium spicy because it will become very spicy from the constant heat concentrating the sauce. The octopus had to be cut because they were still quite hard to chew or you can continue to cook it in the hot pot. Also, the baby octopi were quite big as it comes as a whole octopus size. So this dish is definitely worth paying for! The kimchi pancake had crispy edges and wasn't soggy like what you would usually get from other places. Highly recommend because it isn't spicy like you would normally associate kimchi as. The bibbimbap stone bowl rice was also a winner on the table. the vegetables are fresh, the spicy and sweet gochuchang sauce flavoured the dish well. My parents couldn't stop eating this! Gamjatang soup was not what I usually remember it to be. The meat was not tender to the bone which made it difficult to claw out the collagen. The soup itself was simple with potatoes and had a clear bone soup taste. I would order it again but with no spice level. Definitely will come back again! read more

They are busy but so good. Came here for dinner with a friend on a weeknight and it was packed! I got there just before 6:30pm and they only had two small tables free but had to be cleared. Looked like they were already well into their first round of service! I was greeted right away and seated as soon as they cleared the table. They brought over hot tea as I waited for my friend. We were hungry so we ordered the spicy (medium spice level) beef and veggie soup, small seafood pancake, and galbi. We were stuffffffed!!!! It came with two bowls of rice and some side dishes (kimchi, bean sprouts, and potato). The galbi was tasty. The seafood pancake was super crunchy cuz they add extra slivers of either potato or noodles to the "crust". The spicy beef soup was very good but a bit spicy for my friend so I had most of it. If you want solid Korean food in Richmond, look no further. While the space is small, it's clean and well decorated. The environment is comfortable, and suitable for conversation. I didn't have to wait, but it probably helped that I came here on a Monday at noon. The trick to avoiding lineups is to be unemployed, so that you can go to restaurants during the hours that employed people work. I was craving soon tofu, so that's what I ordered. When the soup came, I was a little disappointed by how small the bowl was... until I remembered that I was dieting. The flavour of the soup itself was really nice and full, with the spiciness complimenting the umami nicely. They didn't skimp on the tofu or ingredients either, as I was actually decently full after finishing it. The soon tofu also comes with a bowl of rice, which surprisingly is missing in a lot of Korean restaurants. Bonus points for that. This is a new Korean restaurant located in Garden City Plaza that recently replaced Saigon Vietnamese Restaurant. They have a limited amount of sitting area, and the decor is quite modern. The servers are very friendly and attentive. No complaints about service! I ordered an Al bap and my mom got the pork stew. She said that hers was decent. Mine was good, too! Lots of shredded vegetables and plenty of rice and masago roe in a medium sized stone bowl. I went to this place for lunch on a Saturday afternoon. This place is located in the Garden City mall and its a small venue compare to other restaurant at the mall. On that day, we ordered the Bulgogi Beef Hot Plate and the Pork Bone Hot Pot. The Bulgogi dish was great. The beef were well-seasoned, tender in texture and its a perfect dish with rice. The Pork Bone Hot Pot was good. The soup was a bit traditional in favor but it was a great soup to have in Winter. I've been here more than a few times now and I love this place. Sure I have other favourites for Korean food but this is close to work and parking is never a problem. My favourite dish is the Bosam which consists of soft pork belly slices that are slow cooked with miso and comes with vegetables and side soup. I don't need the rice. Came here for late lunch on a weekday and we were seated right away. It is quite a tiny place. The servers were friendly enough. Our food came right away although it wasn't too busy. The combo meals were kind of pricey so we ordered a la carte instead. It was $79 for 4 people for the pork bone hotpot! Seafood pancake tasted very fresh! I was happy with it. The side dishes were just okay. Only first one is free and refills are $3! Each dish gets a side of white rice. The spicy chicken hot plate was my favourite. There are surprise rice cakes in there! The beef bulgogi soup was pretty tasty too. Overall happy with this new place. Just another option for Korean food. It is quite pricey though, so I would probably go elsewhere for cheaper options with pretty much the same quality. read more
