Came here on January 7th with a group of 6 friends. All ordered separately. Food has excellent variety and the best part about Hon Sushi is they open late until 11:30pm every single day. Reasonable prices and fair portion sizes. Salmon Sashimi pieces are LARGE and worth the price IMHO. Lots of tables and seatings. Their 20% off happy hour has lots of exceptions which is peculiar but otherwise everything in the menu is great! So overall, I can't complain. One of my favourite rolls is the BC roll, and I've been on a never-ending search to find a good replacement. Ordered some BC rolls, California rolls and gyoza takeout for my little one and I for lunch. Everything was packed nicely, and sushi rolled nicely. Size-wise pretty standard, but nothing really compares to Samarai. The BC roll was packed full for crispy salmon skin, avocado and cucumber. Flavourful, crispy and delicious! My new go to for BC rolls. California roll was pretty standard but my little one gobbled them up. Gyoza was okay - could have been more crisp, and had more flavour and filling. Will definitely be back for the BC rolls and to try some other items. read more

I can't escape the lure of BOGO on Ubereats and having a few good choices today, we decided to get the Takoyaki (x2), Dynamite Roll (x2), house roll, and a mix and match combo (tempura, chicken karaage, chopped scallop roll). Not much of a change from my last review except this time, the rice was not hard and flavoured well. The filling to rice ratio is more than reasonable and we were quite happy with the size of the chicken karaage despite being a little bit dry. The dynamite roll had some crabmeat and two prawn tempura which was a pleasant surprise and the takoyaki were as expected! Overall, another decent delivery meal from Hon Sushi! read more

Looks like prices have gone up a bit since the last time I was here, but they are somewhat reasonable. Parking is available in the lot underneath. According to the staff, there is no need to record the license plate after 1800. There was this extremely loud shrill alarm going in the corridor to the parkade elevator. According to my friend, this thing has been going on 24h for days/weeks. Something to keep in mind. My ears were ringing by the time I reached the elevator. The sushi here is honestly on the smaller side. An Alaska roll is basically the same size as a food court sized California roll, but with an slice of salmon on top. Something to keep in mind. The Korean fried chicken is fairly decent and worth checking out. With everything said, the best deal is the value combo, which is a Korean soup bowl with fixings. The one guy that basically served and waited all the tables was a super star, he was super friendly and nice. Had the yakiudon, salmon and ebi oshis. The yakiudon was more koreanized, it had kimchi in it and surprisingly it was really good. The oshis were good but just a bit too saucy, not surprised. Didn't have high expectations due to the Yelp reviews but my people were thoroughly surprised. Definitely not the best sushi we've had but it was decent for the $$ paid. First, the parking. It is free parking (both outside lot and underground) after 6 pm at the parkade behind the building. You can park anywhere after 6 pm, and you do not need to register your car license plate. The sign which stated to register the car license plate is meant for lunch time or before 6 pm. If you park at the underground parkade, the elevator will take you right up to the 2nd floor where the restaurant is. Hon Sushi has both Japanese food and Korean food. We decided to share a bunch of Korean dishes. For 9 of us, we had the yam and prawn tempura (Japanese section), beef japchae, spicy sticky rice cakes, seafood pancake, seafood fried rice, and the chicken cheese hot pot to share. It came with 3 types of banchan too (edaname, kimchi and sweet potato). It was surprisingly filling and sufficient, not overly stuffed but just nice. The food was good, tasty. I love the seafood pancake, japchae and chicken cheese hot pot. Wait for the chicken to be heated up and cheese to melt before digging in. We were given a big table in a semi private enclosure, with jugs of water and tea so that we can serve ourselves. The staff was responsive and friendly. They were able to make suggestions when we asked about the quantity. Refill for the banchan was available. Oh, and something new was the combo for the Japanese food. You could choose 3 items from the list given for $12.95 which was very reasonable. I will be back again to try the Japanese food, and more of the Korean dishes. Tried this place yesterday. Ordered through Uber Eats. Ordered the party tray and another item. The rolls were actually quite good- not a lot of rice and were tasty. The tray came with 6 complementary spring rolls. The spring rolls were average. We also ordered the teriyaki chicken and it came with miso soup and rice. It was kind of bland and not as flavourful as the teriyaki chicken I've had at other places. Overall it was totally decent. Not cheap but standard pricing. read more

I wanted to have Japanese food and didn't want to go too far to pick up the food. It is my first time ordering from Hon Sushi. We drive past it all the time heading to downtown. I like that they packaged the aburi oshi in a clear square box and the yakisoba in tinfoil. I think sushi portion is a bit pricey for the price their charged. The mango salmon roll wasn't wrapped tightly so the mango can clip out if you are not careful. The yakisoba is flavorful but it missing the hot plate char/crisp. This was a pretty interesting place to come by. I haven't been to this place since it used to be called 'Fish on Rice' and served AYCE sushi. Every time I drove by I didn't really think anything of it. That changed when my friend and I decided on a whim to get a large volume of sushi. Hon Sushi was her choice and overall it provided a pretty solid and interesting experience. It has the look of a traditional Japanese place or I guess one that I'm used to based on Japanese restaurants. Lots of booths instead of just tables in the middle of the restaurant. Things don't really feel that clean or at least could use a touch up. Most of the stuff (tables, menus, flooring, etc) feels really old or could use a thorough cleaning. It wasn't atrocious or too off putting but it was noticeable which is rather sub-optimal. The menu is expansive and provides lots of choices. As a combo Japanese-Korean restaurant, I think it's neat that you can get your fill of either or both cuisines at the same time. There's a lot of traditional stuff as most standard sushi rolls and appetizers are offered as well as a medley of Korean dishes too. Quick note, I got some flashbacks while reading the menu to that one Kitchen Nightmares episode when Gordon Ramsay visited the sushi place. Saw one sushi dish with alfalfa sprouts and thought that was beyond bizarre. I'm kind of a fan of the menu and chefs going above and beyond but that one might be a bridge too far. Service was very good though. Waitresses were very pleasant and it was nice as well to see the owner going around to help out. Food was pretty good for the most part and was very pleased with how solid it was. Salmon sashimi was pretty large and it was very tasty and fresh. Salmon tempura roll was a standout with getting crispy salmon and salmon rolls in one dish. The deep fried California roll was also pretty good and I liked their spin on slicing the big roll in half. Same quantity of food but more opportunity to eat it. The only dish I wouldn't give two thumbs up to was the mango ebi roll. The mango didn't feel like it added much to the dish and was an afterthought for the both of us. Overall I had a good time and thought the food was good enough to outweigh the slight issues I had. Would recommend Hon Sushi for the sushi for the most part. I saw lots of customers around having Korean dishes and they seemed generally satisfied but I can't speak to that fairly. I think you'll definitely get fair value for your sushi meal though. It was a pleasant experience and I would seriously consider going back for another meal. read more

I didn't expect that this place would have very good sushi. Came here for dinner based on recommendations. The place is ran by Koreans and so they have Korean BBQ as well. The place isn' that busy when we showed up. The restaurant being on the second floor doesn't attract a lot of foot traffic customers. I am not sure about parking but I can see lots of free street parking available if you are willing to walk. This place has pretty good oishi sushi and aburi. Not bad. Service is a bit slow and you do have to remind them for water or tea couple times. Also the restaurant layout is very Korean style. The server don't always come around to check up on its customer. After switching to take out for months, Hon Sushi has become my favourite local spot for all my sushi needs. This restaurant is actually a Japanese and Korean restaurant combined, which is great for getting a mix of dishes. I've ordered both delivery via Ubereats and pick-up orders in store and the process has been smooth and efficient every time. My go-to item on the menu is their salmon don, nice generous chunks of sashimi on a simple bed of sushi rice and salad. It's such a simple dish but it's always delivered perfectly with a side of miso soup as well. I've also had their sushi and their chicken karaage which I think are good portions for their value. I also love their attention to detail, they always remove the wasabi upon request. Sometimes people add it by mistake and I can tell that they removed it -- the taste is too strong -- so I appreciate they work both efficiently and with detail. Overall, a great place in the Metrotown area! I haven't found another salmon don that tops this one. read more

Their Korean for chicken is to die for! Their sweet soy garlic and sweet chilli are prob my two favourites. This place is my go to for Korean fried chicken!! It's a must try. The sauce is sticky, well flavoured and balanced (especially the sweet chilli). Their sushi is decent as well. Not a fan of their unagi pressed sushi (it was falling apart), but everything else I've tried has been great. The scallop oshi is delicious (excellent deal when it's bogo), as is their yummy roll and salmon fantasy. Sushi is typical of what you would find at Korean fusion sushi places. Ubereats always has BOGO deals for their sushi! Keep an eye out for those deals; they change daily! read more

I was here with my sister yesterday and Hon Sushi sounded like great place for fried chicken (from the word of mouth that is). I've been very curious of this place and the first impression was they keep the same old decor as Fish On Rice (previous business before Hon Sushi). We had to wave for service without knowing there's buzzer on the wall, and this girl took our order and service was okay. However our food came out fast that was AWESOME. Don't expect the sushi to be authentic and this place is owned by Koreans fyi. Price is affordable and portion size is great. I liked the food here as my sister thought it was okay. Sushi (Maki Sushi Combo $11.95) and Honey Garlic Soy Chicken ($10.95) were BOTH fresh. As for fried chicken it came out crispy and juicy (they were boneless too!). Found it a bit TOO sweet though. Maki Combo was alright, fried chicken and sushi satisfied our cravings. I really like how we got refill on pickled radish that came with fried chicken. Overall Hon Sushi is reasonably priced with good portion. My sister found this place to be okay. I'd give this place another try. read more

Second time at this sushi spot, but first time going after they changed to Hon Sushi, so it's been quite a long time since my last visit! I was pleasantly surprised to see a half Japanese, half Korean menu! My sister and I got a veggie bibimbap, and a small order of their honey soy boneless fried chicken to share. Overall everything was tasty and well presented! My sister's boyfriend also ordered their meal set combo, and he chose the takoyaki, chicken curry, and dynamite roll. I was lucky to try a bit of all those dishes too and they were also pretty good! The takoyaki was a bit on the smaller side and didn't have the common bonito flakes on it which was a little disappointing though. I saw someone order the japchae and it was HUGE! Definitely want to come back and try that if I need a quick japchae fix! The location is pretty convenient being right near Metrotown/Crystal Mall/Old Orchard too. Hon Sushi is a Japanese restaurant on Kingsway St., Burnaby. It served All You Can Eat Sushi before. After changed the ower a few years ago, it began to serve both Japanese and Korean dishes. We had Chicken Cheese hotpot and special rolls (Volcano Roll) to share. Chicken Cheese Hotpot was OK in the super large portion. The chicken part had too much sauce. The Volcano Roll was our favorite. It was in super large portion, included three parts: Spicy Salmon Sashimi, Salad, and Roll. It was made by Cucumber, avocado, deep-fried prawn, asparagus, crab meat, salmon, cream cheese, and red bell pepper, topped with spicy salmon. The sauce was very tasty and fresh. It was a great combination. Three people shared this dish. In summary, we had a good experience dining out at Hon Sushi. The price of the food was a little bit expensive. Seriously got to thank the community of Yelp sometimes for helping with dinner ideas. It's become a thing for me to have Korean food for my birthday because everyone around me isn't a big fan of the cuisine (or believes they're not a fan since it's so unfamiliar to them) so this year was no exception however instead of opting for a Korean BBQ place, this place came up and lo and behold, they serve Japanese AND Korean food so it was definite winner; I compromised a little. This place felt like a hole in the wall since I mentioned it to a few people who live in the area and no one's heard of it! The restaurant is very spacious and located on the second floor but even for a long weekend, there wasn't that many people here! We got a bunch of items from both cuisines to try. There is a free California roll on the house as well if you eat here for dinner (be sure to inquire about it; there was a newspaper advertising for it). They've also got aburi on the menu as well and it was not bad for the price you pay. We also tried the chicken cheese dip since everyone else hasn't tried the dish before (Yes, they don't eat Korean). We tried to get the dish without spice but the waiter couldn't understand me when I inquired whether it was cooked with gochujang and if we could just not have that as the sauce and she ended up speaking in Chinese saying that the cabbage was the component that was spicy. When the dish came it was smothered with a spicy sauce and not as "mild" as the waitress made it sound. If you're ok with spice, the cheese and the corn will definitely help with the heat as well as when the dish cools down, the spice is much more bearable but if you can't take spicy at all, I would suggest not ordering this. Overall, definitely a hidden gem since it offers a good variety of the two cuisines. Really liked the cheaply priced aburi from the Japanese side and if you're a fan of Korean fried chicken, you must try the boneless honey garlic fried chicken, think of it as the sauce that they use for chinese honey garlic spareribs drizzled on top of korean fried chicken! The fried chicken itself was decent, I've had better at my beloved place, Cocoru but the honey garlic sauce was perfectly executed. Just wish that the staff were a little bit more knowledgeable about the restaurant in terms of menu items and ingredients, servicing and there was also a slight issue when we inquired about the parking; the underground parking is free after 6pm and you do not have to register your plate with the shop as the sign says. read more

It was a random last minute decision to come here while walking passing by to go to a Greek restaurant close by but I'm so glad we changed our minds! The California and Dynamite special and the Chicken Teriyaki Box wasn't anything out of ordinary. The items we got weren't super fantastic, or anything very original or different but they were done very well. The sauces in my Chicken Teriyaki were flavourful. They gave a lot of side salad, which is great! The box itself is bigger than an average so make sure to come here with an empty stomach if you're getting this box! The sushi tasted great, too. Everything was fresh, no complaints. Staff and cook were nice and friendly. I was looking for a server but I guess they were busy serving on the other side of the restaurant so a cook that noticed me looking for help came to help me (like wow!) but then another server told him that it's okay and he will handle it instead. I only needed a spoon and a fork. Chopsticks were already provided. The price is on-par with the amount of food you get. I only tried the Japanese food here, so next time I'll try Korean. Great food, exceptional service. The clam chowder croquette is to die for! I have not found this dish anywhere else. We often do take out through courier. Consistent good food with great specials. There was a glitch error where items were overcharged. They checked and confirmed there was an error. They said be abuse it was a third party, they could not do the refund. Without asking, they offered the same items overcharged plus extra appetizers for the next delivery order. All I would need is to call and provide my name and they would add it to the delivery. Their comment to me when I said something was they were like that because of the sanitizer they use and they thought it was perfectly okay If I could put a warning on this place I would!
