I love the tofu soup pot in a cold winter night! We had the soup and bulgogi combo, plus a fried rice cake appetizer. Our friend got the stone Bipimbup. They all taste so good!!! Love the Kimchi soup, hot the spot. We saw other people ordered Kimchi fried rice, it looks good to. We will come back to try more of their dishes. The place is nice and clean. The service was good as well. read more

I was expecting my taste buds to be tantalized. What I felt was underwhelmed. First the complementary appetizers, kimchi cut into small tiny pieces, pickled radish, and I think fish cake. Very limited choices and in my opinion not very good and unappetizing. Seafood hot pot and bulgogi combo $18.99. Hot pot average did not come out bubbling hot like pictures on yelp. The bulgogi is standard and shockingly small in portion size. Shocked how small this was, I did not even know they made hot plates this small, I have never seen it before. It was about the length of my hand. I had the Fish Roe stone pot. I enjoyed the taste of the Fish Roe before I mixed it in with the rice. When I mixed everything it tasted fishy. All the flavours combined did not work for me, the taste was off putting and did not merry well together. I was not impressed with this dish as well as the others. I feel $34.00 is over paid for what I had and I will not be coming back. read more

It may or may not surprise you that I had no idea that tofu soup was something that existed. It's not something that I really thought about until I saw a restaurant that opened up in my neighborhood that advertised it as being their specialty. It was something that I had to experience ASAP of course! This restaurant is located at 6907 Kingsway and is a part of a small strip mall. You may even miss if you're not looking out for it. It's a Korean restaurant called Doo Boo, which literally means tofu stew. I've visited a handful of times and every time I leave singing praises and saying that I will write a review, I wanted to try more than one item on the menu though, which is why this review has been a couple of months in the making. The staff is friendly and is happy to give advice on the menu, even though the menu is not really that large (one of the reason I love this place is that the menu is not confusing like another couple of restaurants down the street on Kingsway). I was intrigued by the tofu soup, or tofu stew, and tried the seafood version. There's an option to try red or white soup and an option for mild, medium, and spicy level. Each stew is served boiling hot along with an uncooked egg that you get to break into the bowl and watch the hot liquid cook it, it was very satisfying to do that. The stew is also served a stone bowl of rice, which the server scoops out into a serving bowl for you and, because the bowl is hot, there is crispy rice that gets stuck on the bottom of it so (as I found out that it is done traditionally) tea is poured into the crispy rice bowl so you can get to that rice mid-meal or if you run out of the regular rice that was scooped up when they served it. So far I have tried the seafood, mixed, and dumpling tofu stew. I love dumplings so that one has been my favourite so far but I have not been disappointed with any of them. I definitely recommend the tofu stew, whether you try mild or spicy, they are both delicious. If you are particularly hungry you can also try a combo of your choice of tofu stew and either a grilled mackerel or bulgogi beef. Both were cooked to perfection and flavourful. Don't feel like soup/stew? There are other options as well! The traditional bibimbap, japchae noodles, fried dumplings, cheese roast chicken, etc. I tried to stone bowl bibimbap as well and I also enjoyed it very much! Although, in my opinion, I think that once you try the tofu stew you'll probably want to try all of their versions! There really is not enough that I can say about Doo Boo. At the moment the soft tofu soup is part of my weekly staple! read more

Three stars for the food, four stars for service. On a cold Vancouver night, my friend and I were in search for some Korean food. We picked DooBoo based on the ratings on Yelp. There's ample street parking around the restaurant, as well as parking out front. The place has simple but modern decor. Their menu is more limited than some other Korean restaurants. My friend and I shared some fried dumplings (they don't have steamed ones), and a kimchi tofu soup with pork. The banchan consisted of kimchi, fish cake, and the marinated radish. I enjoyed the dumplings the most, they weren't too oily and had the perfect amount of filling. I'm the kimchi tofu soup, I wanted more tofu and more pork, but for $11, I can't complain too much. Tea was consistently refilled, and service was friendly. Prices are reasonable. Our neighbouring table got the galbi, it smelled so good! Would return for more dumplings and try the galbi. read more

5 STAR! This is my second time here. Highly recommend this Korean Resturant. This is what my group had: Seafood pancake - it was very crunchy and very tasty with the sauce that comes with it. Short ribs and tofu soup - short ribs were good it had the right amount of fat and meat on it. The tofu soup with beef was amazing. Best tofu soup ever! Rice and mayo (not sure if that's the right name for it) with chicken- it was in a stone bowl and it made the rice crispy. I would order this again Chicken with cheese plate - if you like cheese and I mean a lot of cheese this is for you. It was sooooo good. The chicken was not dry and the sauce and cheese just blended together. Service was great! And the food came out pretty quick. read more

Don't ever order grilled fish here. We came here often mostly for tofu soup but when they served the fish it was covered with burned outside. Couldn't eat the burnt taste and the owner told thru the server it's how it's cooked and have served like this.. seriously? He seemed curious who it was complained from then came out of the kitchen and looked around. Didnt do smile or greeting gesture to us, when I made eye contact with him. Won't come again. Also missed old servers who worked here b4. read more

DooBoo - Korean Near Me - Burnaby, British Columbia

Saw the great reviews for this new-ish place and due to the proximity of the location to my home, I've always wanted to give this a try. I had high hopes coming in but did not leave too impressed. [Food] Beef kimchi stew ($11.99) - The soup was fine and came with stone-pot rice. I've had better stone-pot rice elsewhere and found that the rice here didn't taste a whole lot different from regular rice. The kimchi and soup-base was good, but the beef slices were kind of clumped together which was slightly disappointing. Stir fried squid ($15.99) - This was well-marinated and very yummy, but there could have been more "substance" (AKA squid) instead of the onions. Again, I hoped for larger dishes of sides, but at least the kimchi was great. The quality is a solid 3/5 but no more. [Atmosphere] We were seated by the door which wasn't desirable, but the staff were nice and the air condition was a relief from the warmth outside. [Overall] Reasonably priced for Korean food, although I was hoping for larger portions and more options on the menu. I would come by again and maybe change my mind after trying the other items. read more

Service was friendly and prompt, and the portions were huge! Banchan consisted of kimchi, fried tofu curds. I ordered a "white" pork tofu soup while my bf ordered the spicy chicken cheese special, and we had the deep fried dumplings to share. I barely managed to finish my tofu soup - it's definitely comparable to House of Tofu soup in Burquitlam. I'd probably choose to come here instead because parking is a lot easier and the wait is shorter as well. I would probably also try the mild - I have a low tolerance for spicy foods but enjoy a little "zing" every once in a while. My bf was not able to finish his spicy cheesy chicken - the portion was massive and looked like there was an entire bag of shredded cheese on top. My lactose intolerant self cringed at how much cheese he was eating! They don't skimp on ingredients either and there was still tons of chicken and rice cake left that we couldn't finish. The washrooms have a very neat entrance - a huge sliding door similar to a barn door. I can't wait till the next time I come back to DooBoo! read more

Nice clean place and server are friendly. I ordered hot pot rice with mayo. It's like binbinbap ? But gently taste. Kimchee soup was very tasty. I like they put the white rice in the hot stone pot. It's included in the kimchee soup combo. Even the corn silk tea taste are better than other places. read more

I came here and recommendation for a friend while visiting in the area. The place is very small but there's enough seating in the turnaround was respectively quick. Awesome tofu soup with overall-all great services. I like everything on the main menu but I find their pork belly with fried garlic is not quite appealing. I'd always come back for more tofu soup. read more

Ordered takeout from here. The soups were ok, but the chicken bulgogi and beef bulgogi were kind of bland. There wasn't much taste to either of them. Not sure how does other food taste like tho. read more

Great food in cozy setting. BBQ short rib was the best Korean Style easily. Japchae was some best tasting ones you don't even find in New York Ktown. Warm as welcoming service feels like home. It is already my fourth time back here although I live in Vancouver and needs 30 min drive to come. So far my favorite Korean restaurant. read more

Tofu soup is amazing. Don't bother getting anything else. It comes with rice and eggs, and small dishes.

Never been so satisfied with a simple meal with reasonable price. The combo comes with either mackerel or bulgogi and your choice of soup and rice pot. The best thing is this is the first restaurant that I know that serves soft tofu soup without any green onions or any other vegetables the other restaurants will add. You can taste the pure tofu flavor with a good amount of meat. Their kimchi is really good as well, tasted fresh. Server very nice and more than willing to top up our kimchi. Will definitely come back to try their other dishes. read more
