    Bossam
    Van N.

We went to Dookbaeki for my sister's birthday dinner, and overall, it was just okay--nothing terrible but nothing special either. Food: The bossam was good--the pork was tender and flavorful--but the sides were disappointing. I was expecting the usual napa cabbage and kimchi to pair with it, but all we got were garlic, lettuce, and sauce. While they did serve kimchi with the starting side dishes, it was surprising not to have any included with the bossam itself, which is pretty standard at most Korean places I've been to. The cheese corn was sweeter than expected. I didn't mind it too much, but most of my party absolutely hated it, so it wasn't a hit at the table. I ordered the blood sausage soup, and honestly, it was bland. My sister ended up adding a bunch of seasoning to make it halfway decent. The one standout was the spicy intestine soup. My friend ordered it, and we all agreed it was flavorful and easily the best dish of the night. My sister got the bibimbap and liked it, but it was super filling. All in all, the soups were the best part, but the rest of the meal didn't really leave an impression. Service: The staff were nice and helpful. I actually walked in earlier in the day to ask if they could store the birthday cake for us. They kindly said yes and even offered to put us down as a reservation for our dinner later that evening, which was great since I hadn't made one beforehand. That said, there were some service hiccups. One server seemed new and didn't know much about the dishes. He ended up placing orders in front of the wrong people. Nothing major, but it's worth mentioning. Atmosphere: The interior was clean and simple but nothing remarkable. It was comfortable enough for dinner, but it lacked any real charm or standout features that would make me want to return just for the vibe. Overall: Dookbaeki was fine, but it didn't wow us. The food was hit-or-miss, and the service was friendly enough. If you're looking for decent soups, the spicy intestine soup is definitely worth trying. It's not a bad spot!

I haven't been here in almost a year and it was pretty good the last time so decided to go after Hansol was full and there were other parties already on their waitlist. Everyone in our party agreed that the food was mediocre at best and we've had a lot of different Korean food ranging from home cooking to high end. I was so disappointed that their banchan was bland, especially the diakon that just tasted watered down. All of the stone dishes didn't cone out piping hot like they are supposed. The bimbimpop barely had any crust form and they gave us an almost empty bottle of sauce for it. Of course we had to ask for more because without it, the dish was sooooo bland. The bossom came with only a 4 lettuce leaves and the meat had cartilage attached to it, which we found weird. The only good dish was the kalbi beef. The servers looked miserable to be there. The saving grace laid with one of the waitresses, who saw that we were taking the leftover bossam home (because it came with only 4 pieces of lettuce for an entire plate of bossom for $40!), offered to provide us with extra condiments, which is why I bumped the 2 and 1/5 stars up to a 3.

Solid Korean place a short walk from Henderson Place. Parking is available in front. The place is quite new and modern. Nice bright lighting and theme. Staff are friendly and helpful. The kitchen does get backed up though. Also as of the time of writing there is a 15% tip for parties of 6 or more. The food here is excellent and very reasonably priced. My friends and I loaded up on the soup (both non spicy and spicy), had their seafood pancake, and tried their pork belly and glass noodles, and cheese rice cakes. Not a single dish was bad. Everything was quickly gobbled up. Lastly, they offer compliment yogurt drinks (the tiny little plastic bottles) at the end, which is definitely nice. Hit the spot for a nice finish. Special mention. Definitely a solid pick if one is in the area. Recommended.

This was actually the second time we had lunch at this Korean restaurant. The ambience and decor look nice and authentic. We were seated right after we arrived. The servers here were very efficient. They gave us menus right away. Once we looked at the menu and knew what we wanted to order, we pressed the bell. "Ding dong!" Then a server would come and take our orders. The food came out quickly. That was we didn't have to wait for a long time. We had the spicy tofu soup with beef, veggie bibimbap, and beef brisket soup with rice. We got three small side dishes. They were good. Just wish the restaurant could offer more different side dishes. It's always kimchi, bean sprouts and daikons. Overall, the food quality was good. The quantity of ingredients in the tofu soup with beef was quite a lot that I couldn't be able to finish it. I had to pack some home. The pricing is reasonable as we all know there is inflation everywhere. The service was good. I saw a customer who sat next to us ordered the fried pork cutlet with rice (Wang donkatsu). The pork chop was huge that was like the size of my face. I would like to try that next time. After we paid, we got free small yogurt drinks from the restaurant. It was a nice little treat

Delicious tofu soup! Highly recommend. Free refills of banchan too. Quick lunch stop.

    seolleong tang ($16.95)

I was in the area and was looking for a restaurant that serves noodles. I decided to stop by here after a quick search. We were seated right away with menus dropped off. Water and tea were also dropped off shortly afterwards. I decided on the seolleong tang. Food arrived fairly quickly. The portion size was good for one person. Salt and pepper was available to season the bone soup. There was an okay amount of beef brisket slices. I wish there were more noodles included. The soup itself was good. I recommend taking a sip beforehand and season it to taste. It tasted a lot better after a dash of salt was added. Service was efficient. No complaints there. There is a service button to ring for help.

NEW-ish spot for Korean Stews in Coquitlam!! I have never come across a place that served so many different types of stews before. They serve their stews in the iconic traditional stone bowls so they stay piping hot! My personal favourite thing to get at Korean restaurants is always the seafood tofu stew. This one was pretty flavourful but it was on the tad too spicy side for me. The cheese buldak was also really good but also super spicy. The free yakult really helped cool us down after.

    Soondubu

Solid new Korean restaurant in coquitlam. Their specialty is meat-based soup and it shows. Seafood Soondoobu was alright (and if you specifically want soondoobu, you should go to restaurants whose focus is this dish) but the jangtuh-gookbab (spicy beef soup) was made to perfection. I did however feel they were a bit stingy with the ingredients - especially seafood dishes (in both the soondoobu and the pancake) which is why it is a 4/5. Excellent service and friendly staff. Restaurant is clean and spacious Tip : to call the staff over, press the bell on the table

This place, tucked away just 5 minutes' driving distance from Coquitlam Centre, is clearly beloved by the local Korean community. The portion sizes are generous. They are perfect for sharing with family or friends. We saw many families and younger groups dining in, which gave it a cozy, homey vibe. We can taste the love and comfort in every bite. Here's what we ordered: * Beef Tartare Bibimbap - Not your typical bibimbap! The raw beef was beautifully seasoned and full of flavour. This was hands down our favourite dish! * Naengmyeon - Cold noodles in a super refreshing broth. Perfectly chewy with a balanced, savoury tang. A must-have on a hot day. * Japchae - Excellent portion, great price. The noodles were springy and not greasy at all--just the right balance of flavour. Great value, quality ingredients, and authentic flavours--Hansol is definitely going on our go-to list whenever we're craving comforting Korean food. We ordered short rib BBQ, Beef tartare Bibimbap, and original-flavor deep-fried chicken wings. Beef tartare Bibimbap was served in a hot stone bowl with a variety of vegetables on top of the rice. The gochujang sauce was served separately, allowing us to adjust the spiciness to our preference. It was a pretty good dish. The short rib BBQ was very tender and nicely seasoned. It was slightly on the sweeter side, very delicious. I will definitely order it again. The original flavor deep-fried chicken wings were served fresh and hot. They were incredibly crunchy on the outside and juicy on the inside--very good! Next time, I should order them with a flavored seasoning, as I already knew the original version was cooked with less saltiness, meant to be paired with a sauce. Overall, I really like this restaurant. The food tasted good, and the most notable point was the reasonable price! It was a very good deal, and it has now become one of my regular go-to places.

Staff are friendly but understaffed. Once the place filled up they were swamped. Signature steamed seafood pot - definitely on the pricey side, but they don't skimp out. Special mention for the presentation. Plenty of goodies including an entire lobster, half a large octopus (tenticle/arm half), snails, oysters, scallops, prawns, and fish balls among others. Basically everything without fish. Served in a large tray (the ones seen at banquet buffets), and everything cooked in broth. This was enough to probably feed 4-5 adults (assuming average appetites). So pretty. Deep fried squid with fries - honestly this dish was meh. Basically exactly what it sounds like. Squid is tempura style. Nothing special. I'd skip this one. Bossam (pork belly wraps) - served with tofu and spicy kimchi and some vegetable (kelp?) as well. They don't really give enough wraps compared to the pork slices. Decent portion size. My friends and I gobbled this up. This place also serves makgeolli (Korean rice wine) for a very reasonable price. Goes well with the food. Overall my friends and I left happy. Wouldn't mind coming back at some point to try some other dishes. Recommended.

Came back here last night for dinner with my family and was finally able to try the bbq items. It was a hit! We ordered 2 of the combo A which was the perfect servings for 2 adults and 3 (very hungry!) teenaged boys. Not only did it come with 3 meat types (thinly sliced pork belly, marinated beef Bulgogi, and one other thinly sliced beef), it also came with soup, banchan, and a big bowl of Bibimbap. We also ordered their seafood pancake which was perfectly crispy and not too thin or thick. The actual bbq grill itself was the best one I've seen at a Korean restaurant because it was non-stick, temperature controlled really well, and it didn't leave us smelling like the food after dining. The ventilation must've been good here as it wasn't super smoky at all. The best dish was definitely the bean paste soup! We all loved it and had never tried it before, so next time we have Korean, it will be a staple in our order! It wasn't too busy last night so we were seated right away. Staff were friendly and while they were short-staffed, they were quick enough to get what we requested and ordered in a timely manner.
