It has been some time since I last gave a place 5 stars, so I was thrilled to finally find a place deserving of this rating. This family-owned restaurant is located off of Austin Ave. There is a small parking lot in the front of the establishment. Once inside, it is open seating, and you go up to the counter to order your food when ready. They do bring out the food to your table. We ordered the Pad Woon Sen and the Khao Soi. The food came out approximately 15 minutes after ordering. The Pad Woon Sen was tasty and the meat was tender. Make sure to ask for their special hot sauce on the side. You won't regret it. The Khao Soi tasted a bit like noodles in red curry. It was not my favorite, but the flavor was still very good. Compared to other Thai restaurants I have been to, this place is up there in terms of taste. The price is also very reasonable. I will be back in the near future.
Not really a big fan of Thai food but I'd say this place was decent for me in terms of taste. The seafood pad pong karee was pretty legit because it was a curry satay'd dish that used curry powder so the flavours were very dense but it was such a small portion that didn't equalize the price. Also ordered the khob khun Thai noodles with level 3 spice. The spice level for me was perfect since I was still able to taste it yet had right amount of heat. Flavour wise was a bit too salty. I felt like I needed plain rice to chase it. Won't be coming back as the price was not worth the portions. I understand times are tough but.... Ya no thanks!
This is a legit Thai place with items not commonly found in the run of the mill restaurants. The owners are very friendly and can accommodate food allergy. If you can speak a bit of Thai phrases, she will be so pleased to exchange a few pleasantries. She thought my friend knew Thai when when she heard her say Khob Khun (name of restaurant) as thank you in Thai is Khob Khun Ka/Khap (female/male). That was also when I learned the spelling of the word "thank you" in Thai. You can choose your spice level 1-5 with 5 being Thai spicy. I usually just take level 2-3 and ask for cut chili in fish sauce to increase the spice level if needed. I recently realized they serve cho muang which is minced meat filling of this purple blue flower dumpling. I did not get to try it here yet but I had it elsewhere before and it was good. Plus they looked pretty. I like the larb too. The appetizer platter for 2 is a good way to try the various Thai food. The Thai fish cake is so good, like what you get in Thailand. The spring roll is also much better than most places which I feel make their spring rolls as a cursory thing for people not that used to authentic Thai food. This spring roll is packed with ingredients. It is also a decent size, not a short skinny roll. The tom kha looks deceptively mild but it does pack a punch. The mango salad is nice but different from in Thailand. It is cubed and mixed with apple. So it is sweeter. It is not julienned and sour spicy like in Thailand. I have only been here a few times and so far everything has been delicious. Get the iced Thai milk tea. It is exactly like what you get in Thailand. Since we cannot travel now, come here for your Thai food craving. Note: There is a small parking area out front or at the side. I saw a notice on my last visit the lot is for sale and the other tenant has closed. I hope this place will still be around if the lot does get sold.
Another super hyped joint by Yelp no doubt. Nearly perfect score found me in this humble Thai joint known as Khob Khun. Coming out of a two day fast, I unfortunately visited this sugar lad-den cusinery. Crash. Had to take a hard nap due to insulin spike eating a meal with tremendous amount of sugar which is masked by the spices in the food. Had the yellow curry beef lunch, omelete, side of spring rolls and fried chicken. All were terribly presented but tasty. But what is tasty is not always good for your body. Sugar. There is just so much of it. No fault to Khob Khun. Despite their intent to use "no msg". They are unfortunately a old gen type of restaurant nyet known the risk of overtly consuming dousing food with sugar. I'd say if you don't care about obesity or health, or about presentation, give Khob Khun a shot. Food is tasty. Otherwise it is a try.
With an initial celebration of my birthday in "our thoughts" -- I picked the place -- the three of us (Mom, daughter, and I) headed to 'Khob Khun' for lunch last Friday. It was an overdue return visit to one of our favourite, local restaurants, and the result was another so much-enjoyed, delightful dining event there. Everything was similar to the last time(s) dined there -- place, hosts, service, and food. Service was like we were attending our "homecoming" -- so cordial, warm, and accommodating. Food presentations colourful and so visually inviting, and the preparations so distinctly flavourful and tasty. We were all so glad I had chosen 'Khob Khun', it was such a great place to 'kick-start' my birthday. And thankfully, we ordered more food than really needed, so that some came back home, for my lady and I to cherish another taste the next day!!
Very tasty Thai food with plenty of vegan-friendly options. The restaurant itself is a fairly bare bones neighbourhood place, with 8-10 tables. They are quite vegan-friendly, even though it's not obvious from the menu. I came alone, so couldn't order that much variety. So, I grabbed the papaya salad ($13; with the fish sauce removed to make it vegan) and the pad see ew with tofu ($14; with the egg removed to make it vegan). I requested both items Thai spicy (their max), and they packed a nice heat but was far from intolerable. The papaya salad was really nicely flavoured, with perfectly textured green papaya, green beans, a nice garnish of peanuts, and some rather low grade tomatoes. Really tasty. 4.5/5 The pad see ew wasn't the most impressive, but the noodles were nicely cooked and flavoured, with a rather measly portion of gai lan, tofu and carrot. The portion itself wasn't huge but the dish comes together. Solid enough. 4/5 Service was middling, but quick and accurate. I had to come up to pay the bill because the server was in back for a while. All in all, solid Thai food, especially for Coquitlam. Recommended.
I had the khao soi and the chicken satay. I absolutely love khao soi! It was my favourite dish when I was in Thailand and I don't see it at many restaurants here so I was really grateful to have it tonight! Felt like soul food! The inside of the restaurant is just like your typical little hole in the wall but the service is great! Really friendly staff! I want to have their mango sticky rice but they ran out of mangoes. That's ok, gives me an excuse to go back!
Incredible Vegetable Panang Curry! I ordered delivery today for the first time and after my first bite: I knew this was my new favourite place. I can't wait to come back. My food was cooked perfectly. Tasted very fresh and hot: I had Thai level spicy. The Spring Rolls were really good, big and lots of vegetables inside. The Panang Curry was my favourite. Thank you!
Absolutely one of my favourite places, easy to miss but you shouldn't miss out. Must get coconut mango sticky rice. Ambiance: 5/5 Cute, casual and quaint. Their interior is filled with things from thailand creating great family feeling. Food: 5/5 (lunch time) Wow flavourful and done perfect. They serve up a fresh and tasty green papaya salad, I went with level 4 spicy which was very intense. Their sticky rice is cooked and served in a traditional woven basket. The chicken has crispy skin juicy meat with their complimentary seasoning. I think the biggest highlight is the coconut mango sticky rice. Service: 5/5 Sweetest owner, she is so kind welcoming and makes the food cared for and delicious. Worth: 5/5 Hell yeah!!!! Come here try their food, get dessert, drinks and everything in between. You'll get authentic, family and delicious Thai food.
When we stepped into the restaurant, we felt the interior design was very simple and very "Thai!", but the owner used Thai cloths, pictures and posters for the decorations and Thai music was running in the background. The owner or server was very friendly and asked if it was our first time to come here for lunch. Yes we were! We saw the rating and reviews were high here, so we must try this Thai restaurant. We ordered from their lunch combo. Each dish was only $9 that included soup and spring roll. Yummy! We ordered pad Thai with chicken (mild spicy), khob Khun spicy noodles with beef and two iced Thai milk tea. The texture of pad Thai was soft and chewy. We loved it because some restaurants overcooked the rice noodles and destroyed the quality of the dish. We asked for mild for the spiciness. The spring roll and soup came with the combo. The spring roll was crispy that was full of veggies inside. The soup was a little bit of spicy and sour that it was less spicy than their tom yum kung soup. We had a great eating experience here especially there was a really good deal on the lunch combos and the quality of food was excellent. We would love to come back and try other dishes.
Such a charming little spot -- a little worn around the edges, but clearly with a solid following. At least five takeout orders were picked up while we were dining here. The lovely lady who runs it was incredibly sweet and mentioned that they'll be celebrating 10 years since opening later this year! We started with the crystal tapioca pork balls, which were delicious on their own and even better wrapped. The Lad Nah was another highlight, great aroma and flavourful gravy. We opted for the lowest level 1 spice and it added a surprising depth to the dish without being overpowering for us. It was the kind of subtle heat that keeps you going back for another bite. Khob Khun Thai definitely fits the spread for 'hole in the wall' and 'mom and pop' restaurant with welcoming service and genuinely delicious foods. We'd love to visit again to try more of the menu. read more

Ordered take out for 4ppl: green curry, massaman curry, spring rolls, papaya salad, coconut rice, and pad Thai The portions were generous and the prices are reasonable. The coconut rice with the green curry were the highlights. The only areas of suggestion would be the sauce for the spring rolls. The consistency was too runny (it felt really watery). A thicker sauce would have been better. We ordered mild for all of the dishes and asked for extra spice on the side (which is such a great option). However everything had a bit of a kick to it. I can handle a little bit of spice, so it was fine. However if you really can't handle any spice...just be aware of their tendency to be on the spicier side. I don't live in the Coquitlam area so I wouldn't go out of my way to dine here or order take out. However, if I happened to be in the area, I would go back based on value and taste. read more

We were pleasantly surprised! Dining at Khob Khun Thai was like visiting your Thai aunties' home that you never had. Casual dining with excellent prices - main dishes ranging from around $10-$13 making eating out very affordable. We ordered chicken wings (deep fried with sweet Thai chili dipping sauce), khao soi (thin red curry sauce with egg noodles and chicken), pra pad pri (on special- basa filet stir fried in house made chilli sauce with kefir lime leaf), and jasmine rice to eat with the fish. The food tasted like home cooked Thai food. Not fancy and not pretending like they are. Service was great and food came out quickly. They have lunch specials that include salad/soup on a smaller menu compared to dinner so I'm looking forward to try that in the future. Definitely will be back and recommend. read more
Always love to find good eats around the Coquitlam neighbourhood and I am so happy to have found a new go to place for Thai food! It is a small family run restaurant that has good a choice of dishes. We ordered the Khao Soi with Chicken (a curry egg yolk noodle dish that is topped with crispy noodles and a side of pickles and onion). And we also ordered the Pad Ped with beef (a stir fry veggie dish with meat and chili paste). Both of the dishes were full of flavour and the taste of their curries and pastes is bit different from your typical Thai restaurant - it's better! And they let you choose the spiciness level too. And the price of this place is outstanding. Most of the dishes are around $10-$13. Definitely will become regulars here! For those who are not around the area, it is definitely worth making a stop to try out! read more

Stopped in for a quick lunch. Started off with a Thai Iced Tea, then ordered the #13 Pad See Ew w/ chicken extra spicy..how spicy 1-5? I said 10! LOL Ok just 5 but Thai Spicy. Not American Spicy, that S**t is not hot enough. The lunch orderr came with a cup of Tom Yum and an eggroll. The Tom Yum was 2*, not too flavorful and more sour than hot. The eggroll was cool 3.5*, tasted fresh. Lunch came out shortly and it was piping hot... nice! Had my 1st taste and liked its flavor, after my 5th bite I started to feel the heat! YES! This is what I am talking about, bring it Thai spicy #5. Not the spiciest thai I 've had but it had flavor and for the price, its a bargain. read more

My date wanted Thai food and suggested this restaurant. We seated ourselves and menus were dropped off shortly. Service was friendly. You can order the heat/spice level on a numerical scale. I say a "3" is what would be medium or just under medium spicy at most places. Food arrived fairly quickly. We ordered green curry, pad thai, deep fried tofu and coconut rice. Everything tasted good. The deep fried tofu was fried perfectly and was not greasy. It did rely heavily on the dipping sauce for flavour. Beef was tender in the green curry. Pad thai was good although I would have preferred if there was a bit more chicken. They tried to make the presentation nicer with a deep fried wrapper. The peanuts and bean sprouts were under the wrapper. You need to mix all the ingredients prior to eating. The coconut rice was aromatic and complimented the curry well. Food was reasonably priced. We were too full for dessert afterwards. read more
Small corner restaurant that needs some updating to make it more inviting to people. We took our chance for the love of food tripping and support for local restaurants. It seems to be run and owned by an older couple. I ordered the special combo on their board which was papaya salad, chicken bbq, and sticky rice, pad Thai lunch and some pork belly with beans/basil. I Food arrived fairly quickly and presentation was good. I like that you can adjust the spicy level and I got level 5 and mild for my parents. Everything tasted good like home style Thai cooking. My favourite was the papaya salad, very spicy and flavourful! For dessert we got the deep fried banana with ice cream. It was just okay because it was mostly batter and not the best I've tried. Overall satisfied, I would return again. read more

Wanted to try out a new place for our anniversary; reviews were good so thought we would try it out. We were not disapointed. This is the kond of place I love! Small, amazing service (can't say enough about our server), food came out quickly and everything we tried was so good. I'm a vegetarian and everything was easily modified with tofu. I would highly recommend! read more

Tom Kha coconut soup? Tastes like water. This is the most watered down soup ever. So disappointed. Other dishes were good but the soup ruined this experience. Never ordering again. read more
Okay, was sceptical at first but ended up enjoying their food. Service was friendly and a bit slow but not a big deal. Now onto the food: - Tom Yum - great 5/5 - balanced and rich and creamy, this one is special - Pad Thai - good 4/5 - sweet and unique with deep fried wrapper - Pad See Ew - meh 3/5 - there's a hint of grassjelly taste in it for some reason - Deep fried banana and ice cream - okay 3/5 - the dough on the banana is a bit too thick for my preference. read more

Despite my only having been here once (so far), I get the feeling that this is going to be my go-to place to get authentic Thai food. What makes it even better is that it's only a couple of blocks from my house. I've been craving great Thai for awhile after the place I used to go to in Burnaby closed and my next best choice in PoCo seemed to be hit or miss if it was going to be open that night. I need to point out that the server was super friendly, helpful and attentive. I never needed water, he made awesome suggestions (like getting the prawn with the Pad Thai because I already had a chicken dish coming) and seemed to genuinely like being there. Attitude is everything. The $9 lunch deals are awesome. Not only do you get a plate of tasty food, you also get a spring roll and a small soup. After reading other reviews, I ordered the stuffed chicken wings appetizer. I was not disappointed. Wow. I could have made an entire meal out of a few orders of those. The Pad Thai main dish was excellently prepared, the noodles perfect and not overdone like other places I've been too. Next time I get it though, I'm going to ask for it to be spicy. :) I ate so fast that my stomach hadn't quite caught up to my brain and I was tempted to order another complete lunch, just to get more of that tastiness into my food hole. I took too long going over the menu though and my tummy told me it only had enough room for one more small thing. That small thing? Fried banana and ice cream dessert. Holy doodle! I've had this dessert before at other places, but for some reason this seemed levels above those other ones. The batter on the bananas was light and crispy and drizzled with honey. A perfect combination with the vanilla ice cream and a perfect end to a great meal. With so many tasty items to choose from, I think I'm going to start at the top of the menu the next time I go in and start working my way down the list each time I eat there. That way I won't have to worry about taking too long deciding what I'm going to eat. :) Can't wait for my next visit. read more
