Nice little Thai restaurant in the heart of Sapperton. The food was delicious but could have used a little more spice (hot). I should have ordered medium chili hot. I like the portion size as well. I wish they offered beef and fish menu items as there was none.

Upon walking into the restaurant, the first impression is nothing special. Me and my girlfriend came in on a quieter evening during the week, but there were still tables filled with happy guests. Sitting down and reading the menu, it is what you can expect from Thai cuisine in the area. Curries of various colours and Pad Thai options, etc. We chose the Yellow Currey, and the Mango sticky rice for desert. We also chose Thai iced tea as a refreshing drink. The food came not too quick, but not too late. First bite I was stuck with awe as the perfectly balanced flavours of the sweet and creamy curry mixed with the slight spice hit my pallet. I wasn't even that hungry, but I found myself uncontrollably taking bite after bite. THIS IS NO ORDINARY RESTAURANT! This little family owned establishment can truly cook you an authentic meal. I asked the waiter why the food tastes so good.. She said they source the best ingredients and it's always fresh. Combined with their family recipe, it creates the perfect harmony for delicious Thai food. Needless to say, the desert was equally as good. The mango was soft and sweet, and the sticky rice was perfectly balanced and textured. I have found my new favourite local restaurant. Please give this a chance. it doesn't seem like much from the outside, but your life will change once the curry hits your pallet. Thank you!!!!

I ordered a Thai iced tea half sweet, it came and was full-on crazy level sweet. I also ordered a shrimp pad thai, which took more than 30 minutes to come. When the shrimp pad thai came, the spring roll and soup were piping hot and had good flavor, but the pad thai was just warm. My guess is that they cooked the pad thai, but the deep fried spring roll wasn't ready yet, so it just sat there and got cold. The pad thai was also cooked in a huge amount of diluted ketchup, instead of using the proper authentic tamarind paste and vinegar. The server didn't apologize for the long wait, didn't bother to check how's the food, and the restaurant wasn't even busy! The table next to me also experienced similar things, and probably gave minimal tip. The server had the guts to ask what was wrong and wondered why he got so little tip.

Located in the heart of the Sapperton district of New Westminster, Thai New West is an appropriately named Thai restaurant that we've visited in the past. I'm not sure what it is, but I seem to have been doing a lot of repeat Thai visits to the New West area over the last little while. On my first revisit to this restaurant, I decided to stick with something from their lunch special menu and ordered the Gaeng Garden ($13) which is a red coconut curry with mixed vegetables and served with a side of rice, salad, and spring roll. I paired it with a Thai Iced Tea ($4.50) which was refreshing and creamy. The spring roll was crunchy and the salad had a citrusy dressing on it. There were quite a bit of veggies in this dish including bamboo, crinkle-cut carrots, peppers, cabbage, green beans and fragrant basil. You can customize the heat level on most of their dishes (their default spice level is 2-out-of-5). While I asked for a medium spice level (3-out-of-5), I found that it wasn't very spicy and it could have used some more heat. On my second revisit the following week, I attempted to order the Jungle Curry because that sounded like an interesting dish. What arrived at my table, however, was actually the Pad Kee Mao or Drunken Noodles ($15). "Jungle Curry"... "Drunken Noodles"... I guess they could sound similar. As it turned out, this spicy rice noodle dish was a happy mistake. Sautéed with chicken, eggs, bell peppers, onions, tomato, chili, mushrooms, and basil, it was very similar to the more familiar pad thai dish. Unlike my last dish, there was a good amount of heat with the toothsome noodles here. It's no wonder why this is one of their popular items. Undeterred from my failed attempt at ordering the Jungle Curry on my last visit, I came back the following week and ordered the Gaeng Pa ($17). This is a non-coconut milk curry with green beans, eggplant, carrots, bamboo shoots, and basil. It doesn't come with rice so I asked for a bowl of Jasmine Rice ($3). This dish is very saucy but not like the thick, creamy curry that you would get with regular coconut milk curries. There was quite a bit of veggies in this dish but I found that I was missing the thicker sauce that I've become accustomed to over the years. Not wanting my memory of this place to be based solely on the jungle curry, I made a point of revisiting for a fourth time to try their Green Curry Chicken ($16) as this is usually the standard dish that I order at all Thai restaurants. I couldn't remember why I hadn't ordered this on my last three visits but then realized that it's not on their lunch specials and you have to order from their regular menu. As such, it doesn't come with rice (which is a necessity if you order curry) so I wound up ordering a side of Jasmine Rice ($3). The Gaeng Kiew Wan was prepared with green curry paste and coconut milk with eggplant, peas, bamboo shoots, and bell peppers. The level 3 spice was fairly spicy and the curry turned out fairly well. Overall, there are some good options here such as the drunken noodles and service seemed friendly. It can get a bit busy here during the prime lunch hour due to the nearby hospital and local businesses.

I didn't like how management scammed their customers. So we came here for a friend's birthday party. We are party of 15 people on a Tuesday night. For a Tuesday night they are not that busy. We made the reservation beforehand and on the day of the event the owner said that for a party of 8 or more you have to order from the set menu. Menu A was the cheapest and of course we went with it for $28 per person +5% tax +15% gratuity. Below is the menu The cheapest is menu A: MENU A ($28 + 5% tax + 15% gratuity) APPETIZER Spring rolls MAIN COURSE Massaman Curry (beef) Pad Thai (chicken) Pad Pak Nam Prik Pao (pork) Gaeng Garden Curry Tofu Jasmine rice **Substitute any dish for tiger prawns, please add $3 per person You would think that a set menu would be enough and I have to tell you the portion were smaller then regular. For the above each person $33.84*15=$507.15. we got 15 springs rolls, 3 pad thai chicken, 3 Massaman Curry, 3 Pad Pak Nam Prik Pao, 3 Gaeng Garden Curry Tofu, 3 bowls of Jasmine rice. 1 Jasmine rice was not enough to share amongst 5 people. So basically each dish costed $25 and on the regular menu the dish ranges from $14 to $16. the owner was very dishonest. We did not get any service but we had to pay 15% gratuity when my glass was always empty. There was only one waitress serving the whole restaurant. The owner just stood there and watch. I find that this restaurant is ridiculous. I have to say their pad thai was smaller then any thai restaurant I have ever been to. from the plate of pad thai it was not even enough for 1 person how can you share amongst 5. Everyone came out hungry. I know business is tough but if you start scamming people words spread and its starting to show. PLEASE stay away from this dishonest restaurant. Hi Tej: Thank-you for acknowledging that you only emailed the menu to one person. May I ask why was the menu not printed and disclosed to all patron at the start of the meal and may I ask why did you communicate to all guests? According to Canadian Contract law all contracts/special menu in your case must be disclosed to all paying patrons (as you a restaurant is considered a public area by law must also be aware of this legal issue). I understand that you came up with the menu last minute as you said on the day of the event for that reason why it was not posted in the menu to public. But you could have went to a photocopier shop to print out 15 copies but you decided not to and as well, you did not verbally communicated to each guest. I hope you understand why other restaurant that come up with special menu also reprint a copy. As this is a contractual binding agreement with each guest. I know you are going to argue that you were not sure who is the paying guest. You should have asked who is the paying patron if you are unsure then again should have posted the menu in public or give each guest a copy of the menu. As in your case. you did not. Its ok to even raise the price within 5 mins before a customer comes in but like I said this should have been disclosed either verbally or written to all paying guest (in your case you have only communicated to one guest). As you should be aware the contract is binding with all paying guest not just the person whom you sent the email. It is true that discrimination price is legal and is practice but this is beyond discriminatory pricing. Have I answered your question on why my review is the way it is? We still payed because we didn't want to argue at that time.

    Simple yet elegant decor

Note: I've never been to a Thai place or had Thai food prior so I have no real knowledge of Thai food. The place is cozy with simple decor. The host is also the waiter (I'm assuming he was also the owner) along with one other waiter. Since I have not had Thai food before, I had many questions for the host/waiter. He answered with great knowledge and obvious passion for Thai food. I settled for the Gaeng Leung (yellow curry) and asked for a little spice. The host asked me for a level of spicy from 1-5. I picked 3 and wow, it was spicy! I wonder how hot 5 would have been. But nonetheless, the curry was delicious! My tongue quickly got used to the spice, it was hot but not overpowering. Vegetables were perfectly cooked and there was a good portion of chicken in the dish. The lunch special came with a spring roll which was nothing special but still delicious along with rice and salad. A good amount of food for $11! My friend ordered beef pad Thai and I had a couple bites, it was equally as delicious as my curry. We also ordered Thai iced tea, which I was told is a must when eating Thai food and it was amazing. The place opens at 11:30 and it was almost empty when I got there. However, that was not the case 15 minutes later. It got busy very quickly with many to-go orders. With their food and location being a short walk from Royal Columbian Hospital, I'm not surprised by the lunch hour rush. The only down was the lack of a parking lot and having to pay for street parking. Otherwise, this place is definitely a hidden gem in New West!

Tried this place out for the first time last night. Based on the reviews and price, I was expecting a way better taste. The service was great, the staff was very nice and accommodating as I waited for my take out order to be prepared. I ordered 3 dishes and it came to about $53, not the cheapest but I thought it would be worth it. The lettuce wraps were pretty good and the curry dish was okay. The big let down was the pad Thai. It was way too sweet and didn't have much other flavour. The chicken was bland and it was overall disappointing. I'm not sure if that's how it's always prepared or if it was just our dish, but I definitely would not order it again.

I can here at night and even though they close at 9pm and we came in around 8:30pm, they still took our orders. We ate well into 9:20-9:30 and yet their customer service was still amazing and did not rush anyone that was still inside. We got water refills when our cups were empty which is always nice. The food taste and smell amazing and it was also very nicely presented. I got a curry with chicken (sorry, I don't remember what the exact name was) and a coconut rice to go with it. Price is a bit more expensive but that is to be expected with the great service and beautiful food presentation. I would definitely come here again next time in New West.

Papaya salad! Nice presentation, fresh, and yummy!

Some of our go-to favourites: green curry, pad see ew, gai lan with pork belly, and the Thai fried rice with grilled pork. The flavours are super consistent every single visit, which honestly is half the battle with takeout spots. Their rotating specials are also worth watching for m, and are always fun when there's something new in the mix. (my pictures don't do justice) It's definitely a bit pricier than your average quick Thai spot... however, the ingredients taste fresh and the portions are satisfying. Love the little thoughtful touches too: self-serve water station, compostable containers and cutlery, and an easy casual setup that works perfectly for a Quay lunch or dinner. I'm giving it a 4-star because the place closes at 6pm Mon-Thu and at 7pm on all other days. I always feel like I need to rush or have early dinner if I wanted to grab food from here. All in all, this is a solid Thai food option in New West. Basically, if Thai street food and elevated comfort food had a waterfront glow-up, this would be it!

We've tried tofu (with egg), shrimp (plus $3) and chicken. They don't scrimp on the shrimp so the additional price isn't bad plus the serving size is quite big. We've also tried #40 Black pepper (Chicken) - it was flavorful, lots of bamboo shoots and other veggies. #57 Pineapple fried rice with chicken -- it was okay, it was a bit moist for us as we prefer drier fried rice and the pineapple chunks were a wee bit too big. Their Thai tea was great. Loved their Basil Chicken fried rice (no peas and beans for us) -- so flavourful and lots of chicken pieces that it's enough to be eaten on its own without another viand. Reheated leftovers the next day and it was still yummy and flavourful. Their Chicken Satay is good too loved the satay sauce, portion size is bigger than your typical Malay/Thai restaurant and it comes with a side of potato chips.
