I came here in a weekday for lunch and it was pretty much empty. I got takeout of two lunch specials - pad Thai and spicy basil for R and I to enjoy at home. They were quite quick to be made however I felt there were very few pieces of actual meat in the meal and mostly either noodles or rice. The taste itself was not bad but I did not think it was anything too special. The prices for their lunch menu were reasonable but I would be wanting to pay for more substance than carbs for a higher price. read more

UPDATE: It seems the ownership has changed. I've been there a few times, and there is the staff who I don't recognize. However, the recipes stayed the same, which is great. Same taste, nice portions. The business hours are wrong, they close now at 8:30PM. I wanted to order dinner before 8PM but no one answered the phone so I went by (it was exactly 8:09PM and they were in the middle of closing and told me basically to bugger off. I guess they are doing good post-covid and don't need to make money. Won't be bothering them again anytime soon. read more

Thai Chef Casual Cuisine is one of the few Thai restaurants along the North Road corridor between Burnaby and Coquitlam. That probably partly explains why this place was so busy when I visited for lunch on a weekday. The other reason is probably the value of their lunch specials. I have a fondness for green curry so I stuck with an order of Green Curry Chicken ($10 for the lunch special) which comes with rice, green salad, and a spring roll. The spring roll was fried up with a nice crispness to the wrapper and had a hot, tightly wrapped filling inside. The curry was actually pretty good with a nice creaminess from the coconut milk and a moderate heat from the green curry paste that gradually builds over time. In addition to the chicken, the curry had slices of eggplant, yellow and red peppers, and basil. This stuff goes perfect with a bowl of rice to sop it up with. Like the crisp spring roll, the seating here is fairly tightly packed and service seemed rushed (but that's to be expected with how busy they were). I returned a couple of weeks later and found that it wasn't as busy (but service was just as curt). This time, I picked the Red Curry Beef ($10 lunch special). Since it wasn't as busy, the food came out rather quick and it was both pleasing and filling. The red curry was creamy but not overly spicy and there was a plentiful amount of bamboo shoots that accompanied the strips of beef, bell peppers, and basil. On a subsequent visit, I tried their Pad Thai with Chicken. Again, another solid offering... the noodles have a nice, subtle tang and were pleasantly toothsome. The dish was a good portion size for lunch and came with bean sprouts, firm tofu, egg, and green onions. If you're looking for something a bit different than your usual curry item, you might try their Spicy Basil Beef ($11). Like all of their other lunch specials, this comes out really quick. There's a nice amount of heat from the chili peppers in this dish. I'm not usually a big fan of yellow curry... guess I'm too used to the typical Chinese yellow curry which tends to be on the flavourless side. I figured I might as well try it here since it was on the lunch menu. The Yellow Curry Chicken ($11) here had a pleasantly moderate level of spiciness in the curry sauce. It's a fairly simple take on yellow curry with just onions, large chunks of potatoes, and topped with fried shallots. As with their other curry dishes, you'll find yourself sopping up all of that curry sauce with your rice. After a number of visits here, the thing to know about this place is that there's not many surprises... each visit was pretty much exactly like the previous visit - very utilitarian (which can put some people off if they're looking for more service). Overall, the food's pretty good for the value. read more

Updating my review from 4 to 5 stars! Wow, we just had the best delivery Thai ever. I must reiterate.... the flavours are SO intense! For sautéed dishes, we had spicy basil pork and cashew chicken. Both had much more liquid to then than your conventional Thai restaurant, but I'm not complaining. The basil pork was just plain amazing. A deep hit of heat, a robust rich basil... broth I suppose? It was loaded with yummy green beans, crunchy slightly sharp onions, and nice bites of lean pork. The cashew chicken had a lot of soy sauce or something, almost more like a slightly cashewy chicken and carrot stir fry. Again, lots of juice. Make sure you get lots of rice to soak up all this amazing liquid. We also had panang curry and it was a hit as much as the sautés. Very coconutty. Very fish saucy and lime leafy. Even the pad Thai here is remarkably good. It is just so smoky and perfectly cooked, just a treat that I had to fight my kids over. If I had one to find one criticism, I would say that it would be that the proteins are maybe a little scant, and from cheaper tougher cuts of meat. But given the great prices here and the amazing flavours, I just can't fault them for that. read more

Literally the loveliest Thai restaurant outside of Thailand ever. I was so delighted. I never do ratings but I have to.... First of all the customer service is top notch, the woman taking care of us was attentive, genuine, and in general so great without the annoying cloying "customer service" personalities of your average North American restaurant. The food exceptional. Green curry was outrageously delicious and the colours were amazing. Ambience was perfect! Small and simple with instrumental jazz as background music. Phenomenal! One of the best thai restaurants in the lower mainland we have ever ate from and it was a take-out experience to boot! The Pad Thai was great of course, the Green curry was delicious & Papaya salad was very authentic. Decently good Thai food - we had the Tom Kha soup with prawns and spicy basil noodles (which apparently is drunken noodles or pad kee mao, just not named as such on their menu). Flavours were very good, but I'm deducting a star because 1. There were so many little pieces of inedible herbs (kaffir like leaves, galangal, lemongrass stalks) in the soup I literally fished out about 10 pieces, A small pile, and I only had half the bowl, and 2. The drunken noodles/spicy basil noodles was far too oily and the noodles were all broken up. It's good they are using authentic spices in their soup, I would just suggest either cooking some of them in a cheesecloth so they can pull them out easily or keep eg the lime leaves in larger pieces so customers aren't chomping down on itty bitty pieces and having to spit out the fibrous stems etc. while trying to eat the soup! read more

The two of us ordered the chicken skewers with peanut dipping sauce as an appetizer, Massaman curry, the pineapple prawn curry and a large side of rice. The chicken skewers were excellent, tender and the dipping sauce was delicious. I would have liked both curries to be spicier, but the flavours were excellent. The pineapple curry was too sweet for me, but perhaps I should have expected. The dishes were a good size for the price. We both got a good size lunch the next day. read more

The girls here are suuuper nice and they always want you to feel welcomed and happy. Their menu has lots of options! I have been here 3 times in one month and I just can't get enough of their green curry chicken! (My mouth waters just remembering the flavours): Yummy, creamy, rich, spicy, coconutty, delicious!!!. Their portions are good and prices are reasonable. Thai Chef is a great option in the area. The first time I went there, they gave me a 15% off coupon for my next visit and they also take the Foodie Card (bonus! 2x1 on everything!). They also have lunch specials for $9. Food was good. Fairly priced. The location was fairly cold. I felt like I wanted to eat with my jacket on. I went with a group and we got the group 10 set. So we got to try quite a few dishes. The spring rolls were so crispy fresh. Awesome! The chicken skewers were so soft. Just perfect. The yellow chicken curry was yum! The pad thai was a little disappointing cause it was fairly sweet. And I was so excited for dessert but was utterly disappointed. They gave us 2 small dishes for 10 people!!! Not proportioned right. Everyone got a tiny bite. I wouldn't even consider it desert. Tried for the first time as I am trying to help local restaurants. Food was okay, but will not go back ever again.

Can here for quick dinner tonight because someone told me it had closed. Thank god this was wrong! Thai Garden had closed. This is our favourite Thai in the area. It is more authentic than other Burnaby & New West Thai restaurants I've been to. I've eaten here often and have used them for catering. I've also ordered from here using Skip the Dishes and by calling the restaurant. This is a small local shop so I will no longer use Skip to order from them. They have a dedicated driver, so I'd prefer they get the profit but the online interface is so much easier w Skip (which takes a significant cut from the Restauarant and charges both the rest and patron quite a lot in fees). The red, yellow and green curry is really good here. Tonight we each ordered a large Tom Yum (usually comes w mushrooms which we asked not to be included) with a side of rice noodles and red curry w rice. read more

It was a dark, cold and stormy night and my sick husband and I wanted some hot and spicy food to take the chill away. I found this restaurant through lazymeal.com and suddenly had a hankering for Thai food so we decided to give this place a try. We ordered through lazymeal.com at around 6:30pm and our food arrived piping hot roughly one hour later. Not bad timing for delivery. To start, we split Tom Yum soup with prawns. The soup was medium spicy, full of fragrant flavour from the lemongrass, cilantro, green onions and topped with a generous serving of prawns. Then we had the Green Papaya salad. This dish consisted of shredded green papaya, carrots, halved cherry tomatoes, thai basil, green beans and roasted peanuts tossed in a spicy lime dressing. It was crunchy, refreshing and flavourful. A word of warning to those who don't like fish sauce as I believe that ingredient was part of the dressing. For our entree, we had medium spicy green coconut curry consisting of tofu, eggplant, snowpeas, bell peppers with a large side order of jasmine rice. The curry was creamy and spicy delicious with lots of veggies and tofu. The order of rice was more than enough for two people, so a small would suffice for our next order from them. We went to this tiny plaza in Burquitlam thinking of having donair for lunch. Instead, we noticed this tiny Thai resto and decided to try it out. We had the place all to ourselves as it was getting close to 3pm on a weekday. The lady who greeted us and sat us was very friendly. She even mentioned the $9 lunch special menu. We decided to try their chicken pad thai which came with a salad and a spring roll. She set our table with a spoon and a fork which gives the experience some Thai cred! The salad and spring roll came right away. The salad was standard bagged lettuce salad you'd get in the grocery and nothing special about the spring roll either. The pad thai on the other hand was delicious. It had a nice tangy taste from the tamarind and the fish sauce gave that umami flavour that made me want to keep on digging in. The lunch serving was very generous with a good amount of fresh bean sprouts (properly drained) and crushed roasted peanuts to give the dish texture. The diced chicken was moist and plentiful, and it with tiny pieces of fried tofu was smothered in the awesome pad thai sauce. The noodles were perfectly al dente, to borrow a term from the Italians. Just moved to the area and were hoping to find a good Thai place to replace the one we had back in the Okanagan. This is it. Ordered online for pick up which was quick and easy. They were out of the dessert we ordered so they called us to let us know and advise of other options if we wanted. We ordered the Thai Spring Rolls, Pad Thai, Pineapple Fried Rice, and Deep Fried Bananas (out of the sticky rice). It comes with salad (with a really good dressing), a really tasty spring roll, and your choice of a main. I chose the green curry with chicken, and my friend hose the sweet and sour chicken. It comes with a bowl of rice and is a very filling meal. Great value! They curry had lots of chicken and eggplant, and the sauce was nice and creamy with the coconut milk. I have had better Thai cuisine elsewhere but I gave this place a 5 star rating because at this price at this location (Lougheed doesn't have many places that deliver!), it's going to be a go-to place on a lazy dinner time. Restaurants who are trying to increase their revenue by reducing their customer's portions is just plain bad customer service and borderline fraudulent. I called the restaurant to provide them my direct feedback. there were 2 pieces of prawns in my prawn pad thai, the panang chicken curry was a total of 2 cups (more sauce than chicken) and the spicy basil wasn't even spicy. I could've have done a better job cooking that myself. I did not get the value. Would not go back. These dishes were $12 each. I could have gotten my eyebrows threaded next door for $5 and been happier than paying $12 for a package of tasteless noodles with 2 prawns. read more
