$19.95/lb here at super thai. Clip what you want, don't get what you don't want. The staff cooks everything up for you diy hot pot style in delicious Thai soup bases. I picked the tom kha and it was full of coconut chicken flavour. I got a bit carried away so ended up with a $22 pot so tread cautiously!

We were in search of a light dinner so we decided to visit this newer spot since we knew it was pay by weight! It was a weeknight, and we were happy to see that there was no wait for seats and there was still a steady stream of customers. The concept is very similar to the popular Big Way where you get a gold pot, choose your ingredients, and pick a soup base. There are fewer choices for the ingredients and soups but they had Tom Yum Soup, which is a Thai specialty. Service was friendly and the staff ensured we got seated quickly and that we were familiar with the food ordering process. I chose the pork bone broth with my DIY hot pot. It was a comforting and well flavoured soup, not too salty and not bland. I liked the sauce bar because it had a plastic covering over it so it made it feel more sanitary (though one of the lids were stuck/didn't work). We ended off the meal with the complimentary ice cream! The flavour was pineapple and we really enjoyed it. A great end to our dinner. We'll likely return since it felt so similar to the other hot pot spot, and it was much less chaotic and crowded.

If you're familiar with Big Way hot pot this is pretty similar except it's soups have more Thai flavours. Ingredients are almost identical. They also give you free ice cream at the end. All the meats, vegetables and seafood is fresh. overall the restaurant is big and clean. Best to put your name down online while looking for parking. Food comes out pretty fast and piping hot.

Super thai has the best broths out of the choose your own hotpot concept of dining! My favourite is the fish maw broth which is super unique! The service is also always friendly and the ambiance is more upscale compared to other casual hotpot spots

Similar setup to Big Way, you help yourself to food ingredients, select your broth, pick your sauces from the sauce bar, and they bring out your bowl. It seems pricier than Big Way, as my bowl came to $30, whereas I usually hit less than $25 at Big Way. They have two vegan broths: the tom yum and the tomato. But they're not labeled as such--you need to ask which are vegan, so I hope the server was correct. I got the tom yum. The hot pot came out in less than 10 minutes. The broth was nicely flavoured, being nicely citric, tangy, moderately spicy, and lightly salty--good balance. Everything was cooked well, and the sauce bar items combined well with the broth. Great spot. Just as good as Big Way.

It's hard not to compare with the well know chain in Vancouver area, so I will share with some of my likes and dislikes: 1. It's very very spatial, the competitor chains is definitely fire hazard like crowded, this place is comfortable and I like the deco 2. Tom yum soup is a plus, it's special and I like the sourness. I just wish it's a little more savory; it's just very watery and light. The tomato dry mix is very delicious! 3. The sauce station is clean and the pot are cleaner too 4. The icecream in the end is not delicious at all, I love icecream and I didn't finish mine, I was told that I was eating mango icecream. That was a hint of mango in artificial milk powder whipped up in a waffle cone that doesn't taste like waffle cone. I thought I was eating clay.

Saw a post on Instagram from an influencer and was intrigued to try a malatang spot similar to Big Way but with a Thai focus. The process of ordering is similar, with the gold coloured bowls/tongs, a massive assortment of toppings, and multiple soup options for your order. The toppings were constantly being replenished given the high amount of customers during a Saturday dinner rush, and the sauce station was clean given the traffic. I ordered the mala soup base, medium spicy, to pair with my toppings, and it did not disappoint. The mala spice was very intense and met my expectations. Spicier than Big Way's but not as creamy. I also tried the Tom yum soup base and it had a sour but fragrant taste that will hit the spot on a cold rainy day. The complimentary ice cream was also a great way to end the meal. I'm happy malatang is getting more and more popular and Super Thai is a great addition to metro Vancouver.

I absolutely loved this place! They had an awesome selection of different hotpot items, service was excellent and the ambiance was very cozy... they also give free dessert at the end of your meal! Be sure to try the crispy tornado potato and golden buns omg these were the BEST!!! I can't wait to go back 10/10

I like that other places are doing the malatang style hot pots, so it's not just big way opening up everywhere. This will give variety in ingredients and types of soups and relieve the long lineups there. Super thai has unique thai style fish balls, signature tom yum soup, and sometimes thai flavor ice creams like pandan. Other than that, it has much of the same stuff as big way. I tried their tom yum and wow it is so concentrated and super flavorful. They do have green sichuan pepper oil here wish is lacking at bigway; however it is quite diluted in flavor here. I am really liking that they have razor clams here. Just add in a fish roe fish ball then this would be my ultimate fav spot. Their green pepper broth is also good but again lacking in the numbing. I wonder what base broth they use. The malatang is also nice. I wanted to try the hong kong style satay but after reading many reviews claiming it tastes like sacha, I don't think I would order it. Sacha is the taiwanese sauce that has garlic and shallots, and hong kong satay is peanut butter based. Price is $4.10/100g or $18.49/lb which I think is a little more expensive than bigway at $3.99/100g? Parking is not good here though. You can try to park across the street at the london drug complex or the safeway one further down the road but you may get a ticket if you get caught.

Another Big Way dupe, and to be honest, I'd still probably go back to Big Way. Super Thai isn't horrible, but mid at best with everything combined. They have similar soup base options as Big Way with a Thai touch. I got the bone broth like I do wt most other places, and this one pretty bland. They have more noodle options but only one option of beef and one option of pork slices. They also didn't have many of the specialty beef balls that Big Way has. Ice cream was meh. Sauce bar had more variety. Service wasn't great either. And it was almost completely empty when we went, so.... Not horrible, but mid at best. It's just eery to me that literally everything from the bowls to the utensils are exactly like Big Way. Is anyone able to confirm whether they're sister restaurants?

This spot is a great place to grab a quick hotpot. My bf and i didn't feel well because we were traveling and trying many different foods so we wanted sth light and easy on our stomach. This place just hit the spot. Simple, clean and quick with lots of options. Staffs are super nice especially the food running guy and the front girl. 10/10

Finally tried out Super Thai! Pretty simple hotpot concept, go in, choose ingredients and then pick your soup! Love that you get shrimp chips at your table! Lots of options to choose from for your hotpot too!

move over bigway!! this place was basically better bigway. same setup where you choose your ingredients and pay by weight, but they have more options (different types of fish balls, crab balls, vegetables -taro, different leafy veggies, noodles -pho noodles) broth is a lot better- i got the fish maw and it actually tasted like fish. not too salty and oily unlike bigway. lately bigway's broth has just tasted like MSG. I also got 4-5 pieces of fish maw in my soup so +1! they also give you a plate of shrimp crackers to start. and lots more broth options to choose from (with emphasis on Thai flavours). The ice cream was thai milk tea flavoured, and it was actually in a thick waffle cone (and larger than bigway's) Price: slightly more expensive than bigway. it's 18.49/lb, which works out to $4.08/100g, while bigway is 3.99/100g. but i think it's worth it. seating was also very spacious and i didn't feel like i was cramped (which is typical in bigway)

The restaurant is pretty big and they have some big tables but all the tables had only one pot hot pot which makes it hard for people to eat. I wish they had multiple pots for bigger tables so that it was inconvenient. Other than that, their service was pretty good and they also had a really good AYCE deal for $39/pp! We got their two flavour soup base - spicy beef and tomato soup base. Their meats and veggies were all fresh! They had a massive self-serve bar with sauces, tofu, fried chicken (which was delicious), noodles, bean curd, and other items. It was a good selection! You also get dessert in the AYCE menu with two options - vanilla ice cream and coffee pudding. I got their coffee pudding which was not bad, but it tasted AMAZING when mixed with the vanilla ice cream so I would definitely recommend that.

I calmly told her with a smile that we didn't, as we are all allergic to chicken. Instead of an apology, she stomped away and slammed the receipt in my face. After reviewing it and realizing she was wrong, she simply blamed her coworker and didn't offer a single word of apology for her behavior. Beyond the attitude, the food quality is a bait-and-switch. The first batch of meat was okay, but every round after that was inedible, greasy fat. They take forever to serve you because they are too busy fighting with customers. The place isn't too busy at late night, but with steady business. Everything is pretty Big Way standard, with the same selection of food and sauce bar. The quality of meat however isn't the best. The beef roll is way too fat with barely any lean meat on it. The sauce bar is also a little dirty compare to the Richmond location. But it was cleaned shortly after. The soup bases are the same, with the same level of spiciness. All the ingredients are cooked properly, which is pretty nice. The food came pretty fast, and the service is standard. But in other parts of the world the meal is what's important and so is a quick turn around. Guu with Garlic reminded me a lot of the Izakaya restaurants I found under the train lines of Tokyo in many ways, including the amount of time it felt right to stay. The food came out quick, the servers took orders quicker, and the alcohol came out chilled and as nice contrast to the hot food. Looking around and you see the hand written menu on blackboard surfaces on the walls and this feeling of authenticity. The heat of the flames from the kitchen can be felt and seen if you sit at the bar. And the flavors just hit all the right notes. Starting with appetizers, a section izakayas shine at, the first dish we got was their scallop and mayo pizza. With a crispy crunch on the bottom and crust, this reminds you of the flavors of a baked volcano roll or scallop roll you can find in almost any North American sushi restaurant. Just like that dish, it's important to eat it while it's still hot so it doesn't get gross and 느끼 에. Then came the yellowtail tuna "tempura" pieces. Thick pieces of yellowtail tuna flash fried for just the right crisp on the outside with slight pink of the fish inside. It is meaty without being oily or fatty. Great bite. The beef tongue after was interesting. From the color of the sauce it accompanies it you would think it would be heavy in flavor but it is actually light and citrusy. A good cut into the richer tones of the beef tongue. The yaki udon was one of the best I ever had. It was smokey without being overpowering. The beef was thin and tender and balanced well with the mushrooms it also came with. The udon noodles stayed bouncy and chewy which I didn't expect from being grilled. Very tasty and highly recommend this dish. For our final bite we shared a hot stone bowl of their pork and cabbage rice. With the hot stone bowl constantly cooking even after this dish arrived it was imperative to stir the ingredients together constantly for the first two minutes. It allowed for the runny egg to meld with the rice and the crispy texture of some ingredients was a nice bonus. All in all, I loved eating here and if my appetite was bigger I would've tried more on their menu. A solid place to eat with a great atmosphere, if you're looking for delicious food that won't take too much of your time but still lingers in your memories you have to check out Guu with Garlic.
