No. 45 Hot Spicy Oil on Brised Beef Noodles with biang biang noodles
    Marianne C.

I was surprised to see the shop still quite busy despite arriving near the closing hour on a Sunday. The shop is spacious and bright. They have space to cater both bigger groups and solo dinners. There is parking in the plaza but not a lot, so plan ahead! The staff were quick to cater to customers arriving and they explain how much the waiting time was immediately. They also take both cash and card As soon as I was seated, they served hot tea. If you order a spicy dish, they give you an option of how spicy how you want your food (ie., mild, medium, hot spicy). I ordered a medium spicy No.45 with biang biang noodles (Hot Spicy Oil on Brised Beef Noodles), and the spiciness was not too bad at all. The sauce was just the right amount of savoury - there was no overpowering element, and I really enjoyed the balanced taste. The beef was tender and the cabbage still had a little crunch to it. The biang biang noodles were the highlight of this meal, of course. It's thick and chewy, and so fun to eat! Next time I'll have to try their cold noodles and dumplings!

Cucumber with peanuts in chili oil

We recently learned about northern Chinese cuisine with their hand-pulled wheat noodles. I looked for the best rated place in Richmond and called my Baiodi/cousin to join us. This was and amazing experience. A very unassuming restaurant in a mall filled with culinary choices. We were not to be swayed our mission was to go and experience the biang biang noodle dishes of the north. We were so hungry that we order a few starters, the crunchy potato and the cucumber with peanuts in chili oil both really yummy. My choice was the braised beef noodle soup with biang biang noodles, oh my god it was delicious!!!! We also had the veggies with chilli oil noodles and the beef with cumin and noodles. All very tasty and so filling. We didn't finish it all half of the noodle dishes came home for our lunch the next day. Well worth going to this place, food it great, service from staff is pleasant and the place is comfortable.

What a great find for specialty dishes with authentic Chinese (Xi'an) flavours! We've ordered take out a few times but have not had a dine in experience until now. I love how they offer different types of noodles for their noodle dishes. We picked the biangbiang noodle for the braised beef noodles, and tried the hand-pulled noodle for the Xinjiang chicken stew. Textures for both were great and I love how big the portions are. My toddler absolutely loved the Xinjiang chicken stew. We gave him a bit of the leftover sauce with some rice and he had two bowls. The cumin lamb burger is filled with lamb, and they cut it in half for you so it is easy to hold and eat. The cumin diced lamb is always a good choice and I love how it comes with veggies. The beef in the braised beef with potato was so so so tender and different from the braised beef noodles so do not be shy about ordering both! The thinly sliced village pork is delicious and just a bit spicy. My favourite dish this meal was the sweet sour eggplant. The slightly sweet and slightly sour is so appetizing and just had me going back for more and more. The place is quite roomy and sports many tables to dine in. There is a small parking lot shared with other stores. You can also opt for take out. Pay at the counter.

Miles and miles better than the location at Crystal mall, this location is an actual restaurant and the food quality is much much better. Liangpi here is consistently good.

We dined here at 1 pm for lunch. I had ordered from this place in the past at a different location. I got the lamb burger and I tried some of the lamb tripe dish. Their food dishes are so tasty and full of flavor. The lamb tripe was very tender. Ingredients were fresh. Prices are very reasonable and portion size was great. Service was ok. You can't expect too much especially at a small restaurant. The place was busy when I went but not to the point where I had to wait. I got seated right away. Only complain here is the small parking lot. I didn't bother parking inside and instead I parked in the residential area. I highly recommend trying this place if you have never been. I really like their food and definitely will be back. They have other locations in Richmond and an Old Xian at Crystal Mall Food Court. I prefer the sit down restaurant because it would be a lot more comfy.

Northern Chinese food seems to be getting more popular in North America, and I'm loving it. Finally got to try Old Xian Food on North Road, tucked in a small plaza with very limited parking but a lot of great restaurants. Old Xian brings flavours I've been craving, the savory, salty, spicy-umami goodness. Here is what we ordered: Braised Beef Noodle in Soup (we chose Biang Biang Noodles) $14.99 Fried Veggies in Garlic Sauce $18.99 Flavoured Gluten $6.99 Stewed Pork Burger $6.99 (add cilantro for $0.50) Pork and Chive Dumpling $10.99 Sesame Sauce Cold Noodle $12.99 My favourite items were definitely the Fried Veggies in Garlic Sauce and the Sesame Sauce Cold Noodles. All the other items ordered were delicious. I can't wait to try some of their other dishes. The space is cozy with at least 12 tables. But it seems that they get a lot of take out, due to the limited parking. If you're not used to Northern Chinese style food, then you may not know what to expect but just go for it. You may find something you'll love. 10/10 would go back again.

The food here is AMAZING - really authentic and similar to what I ate in China. The price also cannot be beat! We got two bowls of cold noodles and didn't really think it was going to be so big because one bowl was $8.99 and the other was $10.99. Both our bowls came overflowing with noodles and we wished we actually shared a bowl instead of ordering our own. The restaurant is small (only 9 tables) but the ambiance is nice and did not feel crowded. The service was pretty standard which is always appreciated!

It's small but has quite many seats, the lady is very friendly. She gave me a photo album to order from which is so fun and I have never seen anything like this before and every restaurant should 10000000% do the same. I ordered the 酸辣肥肠粉 pork intestine sour spicy noodle(added an egg) and potato shreds cold stir凉拌土豆丝 Ok I have to to say, the potato dish is THE BEST i have had in canada and it is a very very high compliment from me, since I order that whenever I can. It's soooo good and I ate the whole plate in a few mins. The pork intestine noodle is so so, I wish there are more pork intestine, I had 4-5 pieces and they r quite small, the egg tho, is sooooo good, it's worth it to add one to the noodle. They also add a ton of peanuts so if u have allergies u need to tell them, they wont ask u. She also gave me a small ice jelly dessert for free in the end, it tastes so good??!!! I am so full at this point otherwise I would ask if I can eat a full portion one lol Overall I will come back!

This place is tiny, as in it can seat about 20 people, and every table had people and had piping hot food on each. Both me and my friend needed to wait a few minutes till someone left, and when we got seated, they gave us their regular menu, and later on gave us a picture book.. and if you guessed it.... everything on their menu with a separate picture. My friend ordered his bowl of spicy pork chop glass noodles in soup, and I had a dry version of spicy noodles with pork. We also ordered their deep fried tofu, deep fried chicken, and a plate of spicy cucumber. Every dish was done just right, and what I mean by that is that every hot dish seemed to be made to order, and it was confirmed when we spoke to the lady there. The spicy cucumber dish came out, and you can tell they use fresh ingredients, the cucumber, although the chili oil used was spicy, due to the freshness of the cucumber, was sweet too. The deep fried tofu had a nice hard outer deep fried shell, and yet the inside was soft and really hot, the chicken took the longest, but this was worth waiting for, with the thin deep fried batter, I don't think I have ever had chicken this hot in temperature, and it was great. Both noodle dishes were huge, and I wondered how my friend ended up eating all of his, I had to take 1/3 of mine home as it was too much. We also ordered a plum drink and a hawthorne drink and at the end was served complimentary jelly as dessert. This was a great meal and if you are in the area, I would recommend you try this place out.

The hot and sour soup was excessively sour, the fried rice cakes was too sweet and the Dan Dan noodles was excessively salty. Furthermore, the ingredients don't taste fresh and dishes such as the Dan Dan noodles are missing key ingredients like cucumbers and carrots. Service is good, and there are robots as well. For the good news: very generous portion of the thick and flavourful Sweet Corn & Chicken Soup; the wonderful surprise of biting into the dumplings and getting both the authentic taste of the pork filling and the burst of the well seasoned broth Shanghai "Xiao Long Bao" Soup Dumplings; the properly cooked with the right amount of garlic and spice Salt & Pepper Squid and; the ever reliable FR "Yang-Zhou" Style. Unfortunately, we didn't fare so well with the rest of our meal. I've always wanted to try the Dan-Dan Noodles and I even opted for the Blade-Sheared Noodles. The noodles were overdone and so soft and slimy. It also didn't help that the extremely oily peanut sauce tasted like melted store-bought peanut butter with a smattering of minced pork. It wasn't even spicy as described. We also ordered the ironically dry and plain Green Onion Beef with Black Pepper Sauce. Not sure if the sauce spilled or evaporated but the container was devoid of any liquid. If it wasn't for the wonderful baos, my revised rating would have been 2 stars. If we ever go back to Legend House, it's probably just for the dim sums otherwise I'll pass.

Not really an authentic Szechuan restaurant. 30 years ago, most chinese cuisines were cooked by hong kongers or south chinese people. So, most of these dishes are going to be a southern take on it. Hot and sour soup - price is awesome. $11 enough for at least 6 bowls. Souo base is missing a bit of flavor but it is jam packed with ingredients. Drunken chicken - it was ok. Little on the salty side. Shanghainese pan fried pork buns - these were probably the worst I've had. Not made in house and not properly pan fried. No juice, super dry, no fried bottom crust. Bean curd wrapped pork dim sum - surprisingly this came out last. At least 20 min has passed. This is a steamed dish but it came out with dried edges like it was sitting on a dry heater. Taste was ok. Mapo tofu - asked for extra spicy and extra numbing. Numbing was there but nowhere near real szechuan numbing. Was not spicy at all. Sauce was more oily than saucey. The price point reflects the quality. Things are either mediocre or a complete miss. Would come again to try only the better stuff. Staff was friendly. Came to try to refill the tea way more times than normal. The iron goddess tea tastes much better than a lot of dim sum places elsewhere.
