The kitchen and front of house are very clean, and it smells like delicious Chinese food. Sat down with high hopes, found some of our favourite dishes (shoutout to the fried fish filet with cream corn sauce, and the best ginger beef we've had outside Victoria --yay, Crown Palace!) and we were NOT disappointed. I have been to Legend House several times in the past and it was decent, but it has gone down hill recently. I would say sometime after mid 2024 the quality has dropped significantly. The hot and sour soup was excessively sour, the fried rice cakes was too sweet and the Dan Dan noodles was excessively salty. The buns (Xiao Long Bao and san ji Bao) were okay but the wrapping was on the thick side. Furthermore, the ingredients don't taste fresh and dishes such as the Dan Dan noodles are missing key ingredients like cucumbers and carrots. Service is good, and there are robots as well. We decided to try Legend House again and order different items. It's still more expensive than our other Chinese restos but at least they're open later. For the good news: very generous portion of the thick and flavourful Sweet Corn & Chicken Soup; the wonderful surprise of biting into the dumplings and getting both the authentic taste of the pork filling and the burst of the well seasoned broth Shanghai "Xiao Long Bao" Soup Dumplings; the properly cooked with the right amount of garlic and spice Salt & Pepper Squid and; the ever reliable FR "Yang-Zhou" Style. Unfortunately, we didn't fare so well with the rest of our meal. I've always wanted to try the Dan-Dan Noodles and I even opted for the Blade-Sheared Noodles. The noodles were overdone and so soft and slimy. It also didn't help that the extremely oily peanut sauce tasted like melted store-bought peanut butter with a smattering of minced pork. It wasn't even spicy as described. We also ordered the ironically dry and plain Green Onion Beef with Black Pepper Sauce. Not sure if the sauce spilled or evaporated but the container was devoid of any liquid. If it wasn't for the wonderful baos, my revised rating would have been 2 stars. If we ever go back to Legend House, it's probably just for the dim sums otherwise I'll pass. read more

Legend House is right around the corner from my apartment - which can be VERY dangerous! I used to never eat Chinese food, but was re-introduced to it a few years back with dumplings and dim sum. Legend house does an amazing XLB and pan friend pork buns. Those are the two items that I usually order (either take out or eat in). When Eating in, the servers are constantly bringing over their refreshing and delicious tea. I don't know what it is, but I always drink an entire kettle of it, EVERY time. Highly recommend Legend House if you're in coquitlam. Side note - any transaction under $15, you'll get charged a fee paying by credit card. I have visited/ordered from this restaurant for a few times, and at least half of the visits/orders were problematic. Smelly chicken in dishes, poorly packed orders for delivery causing leaking. Worst part is they never admit their mistake and never apologize. I should have stopped ordering from them earlier, but I will from now on. If you don't want to ruin your mood for dinner, don't choose this one. For the particular case today, they have packed two bowls with soup on top of another box like a tower, and the only thing in between those two bowls was just a tiny cardboard which is smaller than the bottom of the bowl. No doubt the whole package would fall apart. And they tried to blame the Uber Eats driver for that. Fortunately we have the whole incident video recorded. This is really frustrating! The reviews don't do this place justice. First of all, the menu is amazing, not only do they serve a wide variety of dishes, the menu itself is laid out so nicely with bright colorful photos of each item. It made ordering really easy because you can see exactly what each dish is. And the variety is amazing, so many dumpling options - we ended up trying a lot of them and they were all great. The pan fried pork buns were probably the highlight though, super delicious and extremely filling! The service was exceptionally prompt and friendly without any unnecessary delays or issues. I like when courses come out quickly as soon as they are ready, rather than waiting for everything to be done in the back. It truly made for an amazing feast for the eyes and taste buds. A few items weren't my favorite but it was more of a personal preference than failure of the dish. With so much variety some items might not be as good as others but I highly recommend the dumplings and noddle dishes - those were my favorites. read more

We used to come here very often - almost once a week. Then we stopped coming. Legend House is a staple diet with a mixed regional of Chinese food offerings. The Good; Service; for most part service have been decent but now the staff only do the minimum. Couple of our favourite staffs are no longer working there- found current staff to want to do as little as possible. For old times' sake 8/10 Food taste; the fact it is a blend of flavours; cannot say they specialize in any particular regional dishes or able to achieve any refinement of sorts, would say the taste is 7/10 and is quasi authentic. Texture: same as above. Freshness of ingredients: Decent. 9/10 Quality of ingredients are unknown. Would assume it is average as there is no mention of organic or grass fed. 6/10 The Bad; There is really nothing bad about this restaurant even including price. Everything is just average. Price 7/10. Perhaps this is what is "bad". The overall experience is mediocre. Good choice for Szechuan food on the area. Food comes out very quickly. They serve the best XLB in the area in my opinion. The wrapper part is not too thick or to thin. The juice is clean tasting and the meat has a good consistency. Their fried noodle dishes are good but a bit on the oily side. The hand pulled noodles have a good bounce to them. The beef rolls are nice and no overly sweet. The roll part is nicely fried but still has a good chew. We've been eating here for a year and their food is good, though on the salty side. I would recommend their spicy fried chicken, cumin beef and cumin lamb. I like that there is a good a variety of spices in each. Their stir fried potato dishes are nice too, very crisp. I don't recommend the Lanzhou beef or the Shanxi spicy noodles, since their noodles are super thick in general and the soup is too fatty for the former and too oily for the latter. The Shanxi spicy noodles are also very salty. I wanted to write this review mostly because of their poor ordering website. The UI and layout is not the most intuitive. But more importantly, there's no way to cancel individual items in your cart once you've added them. It removes them from the cart but when you refresh the page it's still in the cart. You have to clear the whole cart and reorder. It's been frustrating because we've accidentally ordered the wrong thing in all the cart confusion and had to make an extra order because of it. read more

20180609 My boyfriend and I walked around Coquitlam Center. We found a Chinese Restaurant nearby to eat dinner. The name of the restaurant called LEGEND HOUSE CHINESE RESTAURANT. The restaurant mainly offers Sichuan entrees & Northern Chinese dim sum. We had a good time eating in the restaurant.  Environment:  We arrived at the restaurant around 5 pm. Although it was still early, the restaurant was super busy. We had to wait for few minutes to get the table. Inside the restaurant, it's Chinese style decoration. There are lots of tables and lots of space in the restaurant. It's very tidy and clean.  Services:  After few minutes waiting, we got a table and began to order. The server also brought the tea and menu to the table at the same time. All the servers are Chinese people. They were very nice and friendly. The menu is in Chinese Style. Each dish in the menu all come with pictures, which makes us very easy to order the food.  Food:  Since we were not too hungry, we only ordered three dishes and rice.  Sweet & Sour Boneless Pork SP咕噜肉,  Fern Root Powder Noodle Salad 涼拌麻辣蕨根粉, and Shanghai"XiaoLongBao" Soup Dumplings上海小籠包. All the dishes came out of the kitchen one by one. First of all, it is sweet & sour boneless pork, which made by boneless pork loin roast, pineapple chunks, minced garlic, and fresh ginger. The boneless pork was very dry and the taste was old. The sweet & sour sauce was very authentic. Next, XiaoLongBao was my most favorite dish, which was very fresh and well cooked. I could tell the small soup dumplings filled with minced pork, ginger and a savoury a sauce. 100 % homemade. They were so delicious and yummy.  Fern Root Powder Noodle Salad came last. It was tossed in a spicy Szechuan peppercorn dressing & garlic. I was very disappointed with this dish. It was not any special flavors. I do not like it.  Prices:  All the dishes on the menu are a little bit expensive. The three dishes that we ordered, are all round $8 ~$9.  In summary, this restaurant was OK. I just moved to Coquitlam and ordering chinese food is basically a rite of passage when all your cookware and food is stored in boxes. It's only been a week and I've already ordered from them three times because they're THAT good. I had every intention on trying a bunch of new restaurants near my house to get a feel for their neighbourhood, but I just love their menu. Great prices, excellent portions (enough for dinner and lunch the next day), and everything tastes delicious. I always debate whether I want their fried rice or their noodles (and sometimes in my mind I think, why not get both? But then I stop myself because I'm at risk of over ordering). Food and service was good during our weekend lunch visit. Staff were on top of refilling tea, clearing plates and brought over chilli sauce when we asked. We ordered xiao long bao, pan fried pork dumplings and shanghai fried noodles. Food arrived in reasonable time. The xiao long bao had a nice thin skin and lots of soup inside. There was a good porky flavour for the soup and filling. The pan fried dumplings were good as well. They wee nicely fried with a crispy bottom. The pork filling was juicy and porky. The shanghai fried noodles were okay. I prefer beef slices more and it was weird finding slices of onions because you do not normally find that in this dish. It was not as saucy as we normally expected but the chilli sauce helped the flavour. I prefer the more traditional versions you find elsewhere than this version. When this place first opened I was quite happy that we were getting this type of cuisine where we could get XLB's and other amazing dumpling/noodle dishes. Initially, I liked it but also thought it was way overpriced considering I could go to Henderson and get the same quality and cheaper. The service wasn't that great and the restaurant itself isn't too nice and basic (but that's a regular Chinese restaurant for you) I haven't been there for a while now because I find there are much better options locally and a little bit further out in Burnaby or even Burquitlam. This northern Chinese restaurant has not disappointed me although I have come here many times. The quality of the food remains the same. Good! I ordered their specials. A dish of curry beef with rice at $7.50 and a dish of green onion beef with black pepper with hand dragged booked at $7.50. Added a 6 piece Shanghai xiao long bao soup dumplings. It's only $22 including tax. It's very cheap. The portion was big. I had to pack some of the current beef with rice and half of the dish of the noodles home. My family always likes to come here for lunch or dinner because of the good quality, big portion and good service. I understand COVID has affected many restaurants and many have increased their prices but the serving sizes have really decreased and the prices went up. The quality isn't as good as it used to be. We came here for a family outing about 8 of us, food came quickly and was an overall good Chinese restaurant. We order the beef roll, house fried rice, another fried rice, a green veggie plate, sweet ginger short ribs which had small bones, sweet corn and chicken soup, beef and broccoli, chicken dumplings, and two kinds of noodles, one flat and the other straight noodle. I enjoy and recommend the dim sum(the sauce was good), beef rolls were crispy, and the noodles because they make them in the kitchen themselves It's modern and clean in here, booths are always a plus and comfy. I recently came here for dinner with my family and we ate mapo tofu. Immediately, it tasted funny with an overly fragrant initial taste (as if, drinking perfume) and an extremely sour after taste. We have ordered this dish before and it tasted completely different, hence, reordering it. Though they allowed us to order another dish after sending it back, we left Legend House with a profound sense of disappointment and a deep fear that we may get violently sick from this. Haven't been here since before since 2019, and Covid prevented us from going there again. It used to be very vibrant and often full of customers. Went there in March 2022, only 3 tables of customers were there compared to a fairly full place pre-covid. Food was meh, not good as before, just 2 dishes, and we got boxes for take out. The lady suggested 2 boxes, a large and a small. At the time of paying the bill, the small box was 25 cents, and big box was 35 cents. I usually leave a cash tip and pay by credit card. She called me out on "not paying tips." But I had put the tip on the table. 1. food quality, gone downhill. 2. charging for boxes (first time experiencing this, it's probably a new thing many places are going to do). 3. calling me out for tips when I had left cash on the table (but paid the bill on credit card). Restaurant seems to have undergone an overhaul recently. Food seems about the same , but three downsides through the change : 1- prices have increased across the board 2- pickup items below a certain amount have lost their 10% discount 3 - watch out for the $1 charge if you want blade sheared noodles . Good food. Excellent service (especially for a Chinese restaurant--all the "bananas" know what I'm saying). Place is decently decorated and sanitary. We go here often we drive out from East Van to visit relatives in PoCo. The Northern Chinese dishes are simply delicious. Some favourites of ours are the Hot & Sour soup, Thousand chilli chicken, honey garlic spare ribs, garlic snow pea leaves and, of course, the traditional "Xiao Long Bao" Soup Dumplings. Do make reservations if you decide to go during peak times but normally I find that the staff turn tables over fast (without rushing you out like other Chinese places ). Kudos to Legend House. We came to this place in search of tasty soup dumplings. While they weren't the best I ever had, they were still really good and the rest of the food was delicious! We had the XLB, Shanghai noodles, Szechuan string beans, spring rolls, spicy ginger beef and sweet and sour chicken. We had to fight our children over everything since they were SO INTO THIS TASTY MEAL! They ate at least as much as the adults. The spring rolls are quite unique... Full of loose large pieces of veggie and mushroom. Different but very fresh and a nice addition to the meal. The noodles have great shape, texture, and flavour, but they're pretty oily. The spicy ginger beef was the biggest hit. A must try. I think we've found our favorite local Chinese spot. read more

We were in Coquitlam visiting our niece. My sister-law recommended we try this new restaurant in the area. We were up for trying something new. I must say that it was quite decent. It is Szechuan & northern Chinese food, and they were not shy with the peppercorns. All the dishes that we ordered were flavorful, except for the chicken - #C7, I think. I just found that it had an unpleasant rubbery texture and not tender at all. The bull frog dish, I found to be fabulous. It was spicy and juicy and tender. The beef noodle soup was flavorful compared to the one at BBT Cafe (reviewed the other day). AND the noodles were handmade! You can chose either pulled or shaved noodles. I had the hand pulled and really enjoyed the texture. I gave this restaurant 3 stars due to the fact the service was not very good. Efficient yes. Cleanliness ok. Would I be back to try other dishes? I stop by here with my family for Shanghainese/Sichuan food whenever we're in the area or shopping at Coquitlam Centre across the street. They only have limited street parking which you have to pay for. If you're feeling risky you can park on the other side of Coquitlam Centre and cut through the mall first before crossing over. :P There's usually no wait or only a 5 min. wait to get seated. The restaurant is dim and cozy, with ample of small and large tables for groups. The menu have a lot to offer and the prices are decent. They have a separate sheet menu for lunch time specials under $10 I believe? I went for my usual regular beef noodle soup because they never disappoint! It comes with a dollop of hot sauce on top. (If you don't like spicy just ask them to skip this.) There's not much meat but the noodles and broth are a perfect match! :9 my family also ordered two baskets of steamy xiao long bao (pork soup dumplings), hot & sour soup, fu qi fei pian (chilled spicy Sichuan sliced beef), and a order of sweet & sour chicken & rice combo from the lunch menu. Overall, the experience and food were amazing. So amazing I forgot to take pictures of everything we had ordered. read more

After a hard, mentally exhausting week, the calming nature filled wallpaper transported me to a completely different place that for a moment I forgot my own name. Also, occasionally I'm quite feeble, so the large pictures on the menu made it easy for someone like me to understand EXACTLY what I was to be served - quality. Move over Wah Wing! There's a new sheriff in town. I've got a new favourite!! Holy moly this place is fantastic! When you walk in, it's kind of a cafeteria style place, and when you see it filled with Asian people, you know you've hit the jackpot! It's always busy and now I know why. They hand make their noodles, their dishes are huge and well priced, and they make their own dim sum in-house. Since we found this place, we've been there 4 times in 2 weeks. Granted, it's a new building, so less rats ;) Back to the food; found the XLB's skin a bit too thick, and the juice more watered down. If you had Dinesty or Shanghai River, then you'll be disappointed. Client had some sweet/sour soup, which I didn't partake, though it smelled good. Just didn't have as much stuff other than tofu. Nice decor inside, and friendly service. English passable here. Offer free delivery, and a bonus that their menus are of a thicker quality paper, colour too. This used to be my favourite chinese restaurant. However since COVID it has gone downhill. The serving size is noticeable smaller, taste blah and today it was my last visit. My husband and I come here often. Tonight we ordered beef and tomato rice. The rice was undercooked so we told the waitress, she in turn told the chef who was wearing a yellow t-shirt. His comment was ( he said it in a very loud voice and in Cantonese) don't eat it then and walked away. Wow how rude especially when the beef and tomato wasn't even good. The food is great... but the customer service at this location is terrible. I can understand that they only have two staff members on the floor during COVID time (they only had one before), however the one staff (who is a middle aged gentleman) was quite rude and talked back to a paying customer. Bickering back and not listening carefully is something they need to work on if they want customers coming back to their establishments. To be honest just order your food to go, I have seen many people complain at this restaurant before when my family and I had eaten there in the past. It is a constant pattern that they need to address. Secondly, IT IS COVID TIME!! The tables were sticky!!! They did not clean it!!They also sat guests who are not part of the same party as us A TABLE to close to us. My table group had four people. *The Workplace and guidelines for BC state 2 metres apart, unless a physical barrier is present, which is not. I have reported on that too to the BC health.* If you want to be safe dining in at a restaurant, this place is not the place for you.
