Was craving some seafood and Shanghai food and Osmanthus is the perfect choice with the two combination! We reserved a table and was quickly seated upon arrival. The restaurant was full for dinner so that is always a good sign! We ordered the xiao long bao, honey mustard prawn balls, shredded tofu with cordyceps flower and lettuce, and fried eel with oil. Each was flavoured packed and hit the spot! My favourites are the shredded tofu with cordyceps flower and lettuce and fried eel with oil. The fried eel dish has tinny slither of eel meat that is braised in a sweet soy sauce. It was soo good with a big bowl of rice - the rice just soaks up the sauce perfectly! And I love that it is deboned! There were so many dishes we wanted to try from the menu that we didn't get to this visit but we hope to be back again! read more

Located on the 2nd floor of Aberdeen mall. The restaurant was really nice clean. We were welcomed quickly. The service was great. Since this was our first time dining here, the servers explained some of the items on the menu. They are very kind and very honest. The food however was only okay. My favorite was the noodle dish with the chili chicken. That was probably the best dish. The chicken was tender, slightly spicy, slightly sweet and flavorful. It came with a decent amount of noodles. I tried both the salty and the sweet homemade tofu pudding. The tofu was so silky and soft and smooth. I preferred the savory one, although I skipped out on the chili oil. I feel like next time I will get it with chili oil. The XLB was only okay. Unfortunately, I did not find it very flavorful. The Yangzhou style layer cake was okay. A little plain but it had a nice sweetness and I liked the little bits on top. Would I come back? Sure if an event called for it. Maybe I didn't order the right items but they have a lot on their menu so I would like to go back one day to maybe try some of their more popular items. read more

We went to this place for an early lunch. On that day, we ordered Shaoxing Wine Chicken, Xiao Long Bao and Sizzling Eel Sheds in Soy Sauce with braised noodle. The Xiao long Bao was tasted great. The bao was filled with tasty soup with perfect tender meat. The wrapping is thin which was great in texture. The Eel dish was great in taste. The meat was tender and the sauce was a great paired. The chicken was good. Although the chicken was great in taste however I found the meat was a little tough in texture. Service was good with great gesture. Despite the busy line, we love the convenience of waiting inside the mall for this restaurant. The place is pretty clean and bright our table was quite spacious. Ordered the usual famous dishes like pan fried pork buns, xiaolong bao, stir fry eggplants with green beans, stir fry noddles, and kung pao chicken. Service was speedy but not impolite. The dishes were alright. I think seasoning could be a bit stronger in my opinion but it was still a pleasant meal. The buns and bao maintained their juiciness although I think we prefer those found in Crystal Mall better in terms of the broth flavour. read more

Came back here and brought my dad along as well this time. There is a mapo tofu dish in the menu for $3.95. We thought it was a typo but it wasn't! We checked with their staff and they told us that that is the price. We, of course, ordered it. We went at 5:30 pm and the place was already packed! I was wandering around the mall and noticed this restaurant opened up not too long ago. I took a quick look at the menu that was displayed outside by the entrance and its mission statement. Sounds pretty intriguing to me, Chinese fusion with the Song dynasty influence? (The early establishment of restaurants and fusion cooking actually started around that period in history if I am somewhat correct?) Greeted by the host/ manager at the entrance and led to my tiny table. Inside seemed to be newly renovated with simple yet modern furnishings and decors. Here were the food I ordered; 1. Stewed duck soup with salted bamboos . I didn't expect much of this but surprisingly it's a very tasty rich soup. I would order it again. 2. Fresh meat XiaoLongBao. The thickness of the skin is a bit inconsistent, some are nice and thin and some are thicker. The meat wasn't as fluff and tender as I like them. Plus the soup was more toward the light gravy taste and texture. Definitely missing the nice clear soupy taste. 3. Seafood dry tossed vermicelli in clay pot. Very nicely done! All the ingredients balanced with each other and the vermicelli had great texture plus didn't clump together. Tasty dish! 4. Chilli and Szechuan pepper oil seafood platter (cold). Nice clear taste but the prawns were a bit overcooked and used squid, the menu said octopus lol (the restaurant should correct that on the menu). 5. Song's sweet and sour fish. The taste was okay nothing special and the fish meat was overcooked and stiff. Had way better ones at other places. 6. Song's Dongpo pork. Beautiful colour and texture. I really enjoyed this one! Almost melted in my mouth especially when the meat was tender and not stringy. 7. Fresh stewed Malaysia birds nest (papaya). It's on promo for $28.95 per serving. Quite disappointed with this one. I expected it to come inside a whole papaya that's stewed, that's the proper fine dining way. Instead just came with a few pieces of diced papaya. To me this is the fast food version. Overall, the layout of the restaurant creates a causal and comfortable atmosphere. The food was give and take; some were decently good and some definitely needed a bit of refinement. As for the service, besides the lady boss herself who's trying her best to take care of the customers, the rest of the servers were quite lacking especially when it is trying to gear toward the fine dining category. I would say it's more of a casual dining restaurant than fine dining in terms of food quality, service and atmosphere. The only fine dining was the price tag. read more

When I first went in, I was worried this place might be more style than substance. But luckily I was wrong. First, the dongpo pork belly was so melt in your mouth tender with a delicious sauce. Xiaolongbao impressively thin skin and lots of broth. Tasty, tender pork filling that leaned slightly sweet. Duck soup is fantastic value- we got the smaller size and it was more than enough for my group of 3. I think even a table of 5 could share this. Duck fried rice surprisingly good too. Prawn not only looked good, but tastes delicious. Crispy coating with a delicious sweet savoury mayonnaise based sauce. All in all a pretty decent meal. For instance, servers seemed oblivious to our gesture to signal service request; and the portion size of dish does not justify the price for the order (e.g., a teaspoon size of "goodies" (some sort of delicacy) cost us $28.00. Summary: Very bad "value" to invest your money and time in return for disappointment. The only saving grace is good ambiance and deco. read more
