I tried the sukiyaki soup base and thought it was just okay. It didn't really taste like sukiyaki to me. I would say the fried foods they have were the most tastiest to me. There's lots of parking here which is great, and lines do get long inside. Service is quick

My favourite hot pot/malatang place! Their soup bases are on the lighter side which I really enjoy. They also have a self serve sauce bar. I especially love the deep fried section, a MUST TRY! Of course, no meal is complete without dessert and they offered coconut flavoured ice cream in a taiyaki fish cone last time I was here. Waits can be long depending on when you visit but if you during happy hour they have great deals!

I looooved this place (even though there are so many of these self serve hot pot places now). Personally, I think this is organized better than some other establishments out there as they had an online waiting list, and a designated seat BEFORE grabbing your hot pot items. It's just a much more comfortable seating and self serve experience. Even grabbing sauces when waiting for your food to come felt at bit more at ease. Piping hot has more options to pick from than other places. I really like that they have a self serve fried food section. It just adds to the amount of customization I can get in my meal. Sometimes, I want more fried food, sometimes less. It's nice getting the option to choose. They also give you a free taiyaki dessert at the end of your meal too. The price is similar to other places although, it's easy to go overboard with how many toppings you can choose from!

A new-ish hotpot place that took on the latest craze in hotpot - choose your ingredients, weigh them and choose a soup base. However, Piping Hot added some ingredients for frying! As this is a craze in winter, expect long lines or go early at 5:00pm. I enjoyed the hot pot and most especially my dessert! Space is clean and modern. Unlike its competitor, this place is more spacious. It gives a more relaxed feel and I'm able to enjoy my hotpot.

We came on a Sunday with a group of 8--my advice, time your visit, otherwise you're on the waiting list, waiting. It gets really really busy. Parking is not an issue if you come early enough. We just made the tail end of the first wave. The first section is the fried section. Make sure to take a separate bowl for this. There are a lot of ingredients to choose from for both hotpot and the fried section. I had the Japanese Miso Broth and it was very mild--so mild that it's borderline flavourless. I thought I lost my taste buds. The fried stuff IS goooood. I mean, depends what you like. I liked the fried stuff over my hotpot. I will definitely try a different broth next time. Their boba and grass jelly drinks are pretty good. The Thai Ice Cream Taiyaki however, was only meh. Looks better than it taste. It's included so it's ok, I guess.

Honestly nothing bad to say about this hotpot place! I come here all the time haha. It's pretty much self service. Just pick the ingredients you want in your hotpot and then a soup base and you're done! I think it's pretty affordable too because I usually just get a bit of meat and a ton of veggies.

Knowing here is always a line up, my friend and I came early around 5pm to give Piping Hot a try and we enjoyed. Compared to Big Way across the street, Piping Hot wins with better soup broth, better selection and presentation of meats and seafood, and great customer service. I liked that Piping Hot seats you first so you can put your bag or coat down and then select your food items. Like the name says, my soup came piping hot. We like the option for fried foods that others don't offer. The desert was a soy ice cream and the flavour wasn't that bad. All in all, I came back again. Free parking in the complex if you come early. By 7pm, the parking lot gets full/busy.

Another hot pot by weight place that opening in Richmond - except this one has deep fried items as well! The place gets super busy during dinner times, but the pro is that you can join the waitlist online (recommend doing it 1-1.5 hours earlier than when you expect to go) to minimize waiting in person. Inside, there are booths and tables, pretty similar to the Ackroyd big way location. Since it's so similar to big way, I find myself comparing them often. Seems like they have more variety in different fish balls, but less options for noodles. Meat quality (based on the last time I went) seemed to be worse than big way. I've tried the sukiyaki broth (a bit too salty), collagen (a bit blander than big way), and three delicacies (good option if you like fishy broth/strong pepper taste). I do like coming here when I'm in the mood to eat deep fried stuff! Their sweet mochi balls are really good. I also really like the chicken knees and squid is decent as well. Their taiyaki dessert is also pretty good as it's freshly made. ALSO: I would pick piping over big way if I'm eating after 10pm because they have free drinks if you spend over $20!! Otherwise I feel like they're pretty similar - whatever has the shorter lineup is probably a good option.

We finally got to try this place after a long wait (we got a table after a few hours in queue). It is similar to Big Way Hot Pot but unfortunately I would say it's not as good. They do have a fried food option, which is really nice and different from the other hot pot places, but I found the broth much less flavourful than other hot pot places. I got the curry one. The place does get lively and busy. Worth a try but be sure to get in queue ahead of time. They also give you ice cream in a taiyaki at the end which was different!

There's an electronic waitlist system for this place. You can either click on the join waitlist button from Google, or else come the restaurant itself and once you enter there's a small electronic tablet set up where you can join the waitlist. The Google page doesn't seem super reliable though. We check it and it said something to the effect of, "There's no wait. Come on in!" Yet when we arrived, there were several people ahead of us. Only sometime after we had joined the list did Google update their page and display the "Join Waitlist" button. This place is somewhat similar to Big Way Hot Pot. It's not the traditional style of hot pot where you cook the food yourself. Here, you select your foods from a huge variet of options, place it in a bowl and they cook it up for you. Just like Big Way, they charge by weight. It's slightly more expensive here than Big Way A lot of other reviews seem to be praising the deep fried foods section. I didn't actually try any of the deep fried foods as it was all meat and seafood, and I decided to go Vegetarian for this meal. My husband tried it though and he said the deep fried foods were "meh." Nice concept, but they need to work on their implementation. Seems the deep fried foods were overcooked. They have a huge variety of options just like Big Way. I only took one of every food that I chose for my bowl and still ended up with a very generously filled bowl. It definitely wasn't lacking for anything from being a Vegetarian meal. They have two Vegetarian broths to choose from. One is mushroom and the other is tomato. I chose the tomato broth and very much enjoyed it. There's a sauce bar where you can customize your own dipping sauce. I chose sesame oil, soy sauce, black vinegar, garlic and green onions for my sauce. Hubby raved about the Vegetable curry sauce. Not sure we'll ever come here again but if we do, I will have to try the Vegetable curry sauce next time. We tried a Peach Soda Pop drink. It was just OK. The drinks taste much better at Big Way. I had read multiple reviews where people wrote about having a taiyaki milk tea ice cream for dessert. We did indeed get taiyaki with ice cream in it. We didn't get a milk tea flavored ice cream though. Our taiyakis were filled with...pretty sure it was strawberry ice cream based on the flavor. It wasn't bad but I would have preferred the milk tea flavored ice cream. I guess they must rotate the ice cream flavors. The flavor you get when you come to visit is just luck of the draw I guess. No guarantees on what flavor you'll get. We enjoyed the meal overall; however, we prefer Big Way Hot Pot. They are slightly cheaper, and make better tasting drinks than this place. Service: Good Parking: Plentiful and free

It's always a good concept like most hotpot places nowadays for full customization - from selection of carbs to protein to the last slurp of soup. Piping hot stands out amongst the crowd as all the above plus the option to choose items to be deep fried - think Taiwanese fried food / street food stalls! The soup bases were a bit blander than I liked, I personally thought the soups lacked a certain umami kick to it. That being said, the fried selection was delicious! I loved the seasoning spice the fried items were tossed in and the variety available to have fried. The cherry on top is definitely the tea flavored ice cream served in a taiyaki cone!

    Aggie E.

Okay I like this better than Big Way Hot Pot! Their deep fried section is so fun and delicious. I loved their dessert. Same price as their competitors but more choices! Super friendly service.

This restaurant recently took over the old Dinesty space, and it offers a concept similar to Big Way Hotpot, with the same price per kilogram. One main difference is a deep-fried section, which is good to be shared at the table. They also offer condensed milk at the sauce area so that can be good for dipping the deep fried mantou. While I personally won't be going for the deep-fried options again, I can see others enjoying it. In terms of selection, I think Big Way has a broader range, especially when it comes to noodles, but I found the offerings here to be good enough. What really stood out to me was the broth--it was far more flavorful than Big Way's. The tomato broth, in particular, was less tangy and salty, making it a much more balanced choice. I'll definitely be ordering that next time. Instead of the typical ice cream cone offered at other hotpot restaurants, they serve free taiyaki milk tea ice cream, which is a nice bonus. When we asked for it, they mentioned a 15-minute wait, but we didn't actually have to wait that long. Still, be prepared for a bit of a wait, since it's made fresh. The service here could use some improvement compared to Big Way--sometimes it takes a while to flag someone down. But overall, because I liked the soup base so much, I'd definitely be coming back.

Reasonable amount of pork with a few potatoes, jalapeños and green onions. Broth was light and lacked depth. - Galbi beef short-rib hot plate ($29.99) - came with a salad. Short ribs were tender and juicy. - Bulgogi stir fried udon ($16.99) - the udon didn't have much texture, sauce wasn't satisfying. They have a great spicy tofu soup! This time around, we went for non-spicy soybean soup as my friend can't handle spice. It was still flavourful and hearty for the soul, especially on a cold day. For this visit, we had; Spicy grilled chicken- this came hot and sizzling, so saucy, crispy and cheesy, I enjoyed every bite of it, as it was crunchy, flavoursome, and the cheese completes the taste. Grilled Boneless beef- the beef is so tender, and it has a strong flavour perfect with the rice Seafood Pancake- full of different seafood and so crispy on top, the dip goes well with it. Bibimbap- it was delicious like the other bibimbap. I tasted the combination of the ingredients were perfect So far, all the dishes were satisfying, and they were all served hot, which is so perfect for the cold weather. The side dishes can be refilled if you ask, and the price is just right. I Highly recommend checking this place, and I will surely come back to try their other dishes.

Not many people for lunch on a weekday. Menu is not big. When we went, lots of items were crossed off the menu, probably due to pandemic limitations. Has a number of soups and some classic Korean dishes and fried chicken on the menu. Their signature dish is galbijjim which is braised beef short ribs. Beef King's twist is that they add cheese on top and they will melt the cheese with a hand torch in front of your table. Got a medium portion. Portion is big enough for two, and the contents were tasty. The sauce has a little tomato-ish flavor, and the beef along with pieces of potato and daikon have soaked up the flavor. The melted cheese is mild but adds an extra and different texture to the dish. Also got an order of the pan fried dumplings, and those were okay. Overall the bill was $65 including tax.
