My birthday was March 14th but my friends weren't available, and all of us could only come out on March 15th. We asked a staff, and sadly I did not get the birthday person gets to eat free choice. There's a 2-HOUR eating limit, otherwise there's a cost charge for any leftovers. Food-wise, I really liked the differently priced tiers with each tier offering an amazing variety of options. My 3 friends and I agreed on *DELUXE TIER* for $39.85 per person, and it includes all of the food options below its tier which is classic tier for $28.85. All of the beef belly choices had amazing flavour when grilled over charcoal stove, and honestly it was probably my most favourite item on the menu. The chicken wings were on the smaller side but it still packs great flavour somehow. And the 'cold noodle with soup' had excellent flavour as well but it's a hefty bowl so it's better to save your stomach space for just meat only instead of carbs. The downside of my experience is the open bar which you can find in the middle of the restaurant. Its options was pretty lackluster and after circling the options at the open bar twice, I ended up NOT grabbing anything for the counter. We went for a late lunch at 2pm and it was a packed restaurant. Cost was $28.85 per adult and $14.99 per child (up to 11 years old) for the Classic, which is the lowest tier because I figure we can't eat that much at that time. We ended up tapping out after round two. The must gets are the beef belly slices. There were 3 types of marinade but I liked the simple sea salt ones the best and you can dip into your sauces. The beef tongue was on the chewier side but not too bad. Pork belly was fatty and delicious and the pork shoulder was tender. I am stuffed! I like using charcoal over gas, and having a big selection of Wagyu beef is even better. What I was really surprised about the premium menu is that it has a lot of stuff that I don't usually find in other Korean BBQ. Other than Wagyu, I really enjoyed the Abalone, scallops with vermicelli, and beef belly. The kids loved roasting the marshmallows over the charcoal at the end. Fuji was our server and he did a phenomenal job making sure that our plate was full the whole time. He even gave us pointers on how long to keep the food on the grill for. So happy i finally got to try this place after waiting for so long and constantly seeing it pop up in peoples stories or reviews etc. It was absolutely the best meal ive had in so long. My friend and i went for the second tier pricing 39.85 and trust me it was plenty of options. So much actually didn't even get try everything We also opted to do all you can drink for $5, which actually lets you choose unlimited amounts from the drink choices in that fridge. I was mindblown! Something about charcoal bbq just really hits the spot. The cold noodles was a nice way to end off the meal. Some of my fave cuts of meat was cumin lamb, beef finger meat with pineapple, honey chicken wing, pork neck meat and pretty much all the beef options in my tier and below. If you're lucky enough to get to try the takoyaki balls please do! It was sooooo good but i only had 1 since the tray only had 4 left when i went up to the appetizer bar. The service is hands down 5/5. English is really good. The cashier receptionist was so sweet with answering all my questions and having us seated. The servers are really well mannered too, they all smile and actually respond and not just walk away like some other restaurants i've been to. Parking does get a little hectic but it is worth it. Solid Chinese (Korean style?) BBQ place in Richmond, just N of Richmond Centre. Parking is available both next to the building as well as the roof. Spots are limited. Best to carpool. The inside is pretty modern. Nice bright interior. Staff are friendly and helpful. The place is busy, so one may have to flag them down. As of the time of writing, there are 3 tiers of AYCE (classic, deluxe, surpreme). My friends and I all agree that Deluxe is the way to go. For a few bucks more than the basic, there is AYCE abalone(!). I have no idea how many abalone we killed off that night. A dream come true. Double fisting abalone is now off my bucket list. The grill setup looks pretty neat, and the equipment is definitely of good quality. The grill strands are quite thin, and are actually spring loaded. The grills are not gas, but actually charcoal (the "Tan" in Jing Tan; Jing Tan = Beijing charcoal), which some say gives the cooked meat that extra smoky flavour. My only complaint is that the tradeoff is that the food takes longer than average to cook, despite the meat slices being nice and thin. My friends and I had to basically work out a routine (ie grill duty) to make sure the full area was being utilized. There is an adjustable exhaust hose directly over the grills, so the place wasn't smoky at all, which was nice. The 2 hour limit can be a problem if one doesn't cook quickly enough. We did notice that some of the larger (group) tables had grills that seemed to cook faster than the other tables. Something to keep in mind when selecting a table. Another tip - anything that comes served in a small aluminum dish (such as cod) can be placed directly on the grill, so that the food doesn't fall into tiny pieces. The prepared (ie cold) food station in front has some salads and items such as edamame and crab. I was excited to try the deep fried crab, but found out it's not exactly fresh (think leftovers at the end of a shift). Maybe worth having a piece, but honestly I'd just skip it. There are also shrimp chips, orange slices, caramel popcorn, and Coke bottles. Something to munch on at the end. They also offer dessert bars. The night I went, only red bean was available. Good enough. Overall my friends and I had a good time. Because of the slow cooking speed, I would recommend no more than 2-3 people per (4 person) table to keep things moving. I found seaweed salad, potato salad, kimchi, deep fried bread with condense milk, popcorn, candy, sasame ball, and rice crackers, And standout item was Crab!! Finally got to try Jing Tan Grill.. I remember when they first opened, it was near impossible to book a table even a couple months in advance.. we easily booked a table for 12 a month in advance for my parents' birthday party.. we were given a private room which was ready on time. It had 2 charcoal grills - one had a smoke vent and the other did not.. the one with a smoke vent had an open flame grill and the one without a vent had a stone grill. I would recommend to sit at the grill with the vent, if you have a choice. We chose the $40 mid tier menu. We found it to be well worth the price tag as it included a variety of seafood (clams, shrimp, mussels, fish, abalone). The clams, fish and mussels were better than expected. As expected, the seafood was served much later than the meat. We found that two grills was not enough for 12 people. If you have more people in your party, I would recommend to avoid ordering chicken and pork as they took too long to cook. The only item in the ayce meu that was fully pre-cooked was the chicken skin - it didn't seem like it was fried fresh - maybe from 1-2 days ago. The prepared food station had a few salads (seaweed, fish skin, potato), a few deep fried items (buns/condensed milk, Dungeness crab, French fries, veggie spring rolls) and a few desserts (mango roll cake, gummy worms and gummy coke bottles). A large serving tray of Dungeness crab was only provided x2 during our 2 hour visit. I would recommend for an alert person to be sit in direct view of the prepared food station, if you want to enjoy any - it was gone very quickly - it wasn't very good though. The other items at the station were all pretty cold or maybe lukewarm. The condiments provided included the house soy dipping sauce (tasty) and 2 dry seasonings. The dry seasoning included nuts fyi. They were able to provide an alternate sauce for anyone allergic to nuts. We ordered 1 order of cold noodles and we were so surprised at how large a single portion was - we ended up asking for some small bowls and sharing it amongst 4 people. It was Korean style but neither authentic nor cold. We brought a birthday cake and they provided plates, forks and a knife. My parents were asked to provide ID to prove it was their birthday m, in order to take advantage of the free meal on your birthday offer. The birthdays on their ID cards are their lunar calendar birthdays, so that was a no go - but good to know they have a free bday meal offer. Would definitely recommend Jing Tan. Would definitely recommend the mid tier - we tried most of the meats from the low tier and most were way too fatty. Ice cream cones were served at the end of our meal. The hosts were attentive during the meal as they change your grill top every now and then. The menu had good options for meats and other dishes. Some seafood options were there as well. Made a reservation for 7:15pm and we arrived at 7:10pm. Upon arrival, we flagged down the hostess and she said our table wasn't ready yet but would take a few minutes. She gave us the AYCE order sheet to review and put our start time as 7:15pm (due to 2 hour seating limit) though we didn't get our table until 7:22pm. We put in our order as soon as we got seated however our table had no charcoal, no grill, and no cups though a jug of lemon water was provided. I flagged down a staff member asking for charcoal in English and he replied something in Mandarin, which I don't understand, and walked away. I finally had to walk back to the hostess stand and spoke in Cantonese to ask for our start time to be altered as the food started arriving, we had no grill or charcoal to cook the food with, and it was minutes away from 7:30pm. She was polite, apologized, said not to worry about the seating time, and quickly got the staff to get charcoal and a grill top for us. My boyfriend wanted the All you can Drink pop for an extra $5 but apparently couldn't order it because the entire table also has to order it as well. Weird rule and should be noted on the menu. An individual can of coke was $3.25 each so begrudgingly he went without his pop. We went with the mid-tier $38/person option and once we got grilling things were fine and service improved. Our grills were checked and replaced 3 times and plates were taken away promptly. Quality of food is decent but the cumin lamb is chopped up in really weird tiny different shapes and pieces so was hard to cook and enjoy. The stand out was the short ribs and chicken wings were not bad, though tiny. The intestines and beef tongue were also pretty good. The snack bar had no crab but potato salad, seaweed salad, fries, sesame balls, orange slices, marinated black fungus, prawn chips, and deep fried bread with condensed milk. I enjoyed the marinated black fungus and the orange slices were really sweet and juicy. We were told our last order time was 30 minutes before our actual end time but we were full so this didn't bother us. However, if we didn't advocate about our actual real start time and accepted our end time 30 minutes early, this really would have left us with only one hour to grill and eat when it's supposed to be 2 hours. We got soft serve ice cream at the end, which was a nice touch. They asked if we wanted seconds but we were too stuffed. Overall, not a bad value but we likely won't return as we rather pay a little more and get better quality meats and sauces from ordering a la carte from Gyu Kaku. Beware of the time they seat you and cut off for your last order. Pro tip #1: Pay with Debit as they charge additional fees for using a credit card. There is so much variety of meat, seafood, vegetables, carbs and is truly satisfying for someone like me who loves having a bit of everything when I go out to eat. My personal favourite is the short rib and the marinated beef. (For max cost efficiency, stock up on seafood lol....like the abalone!!) I also love that the side dishes include all my favourites such as seaweed salad, woodear mushroom, and edamame. They even had delicious deep fried sesame balls and fruit as well. I've been twice but both were not at full price - we went for their late night special (which was $3.99 for fatty beef) and also for their 25% off promo. It seems that now they have an AYCE for - which I think could be worth it. Both times the place was pretty empty with only 1-2 other tables so it was quite quiet. I like the taste of the meats from the charcoal, and meat is really tender. They give you 3 different types of dipping seasoning and I personally like the yellow coloured one - it tastes similar to kind of a lamb marinade you would get at a skewer restaurant. Wagyu fried rice was just okay - I couldn't really tell that it was wagyu and I found that the rice was just a little bit too oily. Instead, I would prefer just their regular house special fried rice that is basically only half the price! I would definitely come back again. Was quite a fun experience here! They have a $30 tier, $40 tier, and a $70 tier for the AYCE menu - we went with the $40 tier and was a group of 8. Since I called ahead for our party, we were luckily given one of the private rooms. It was super spacious, and service was great! They told us we could do 3 rounds of ordering, and if we do more than the 3 rounds, we just have to verbally tell them. The first round reflected what we had ordered, and there was sooo much food! Unfortunately when we submitted the second round, they didn't quite give us the exact portions that we wanted (one example was that we ordered 6 corn cheese, but was only given 2) but our charcoal was nearing the end so we didn't end up ordering more. I personally found all the meat to taste quite similar because I think they used the same dry rub/marinade on all of their meat. I wish they had some other sauces other than more dry rub on the side! The only dish that really stood out to me was the pineapple beef? It was so juicy and tender! There are 3 levels: $29, 39 and $69. Bottom line, the best value is $39. $69 offers ribeye, lamb chop, Foie gras, wagyu. I was not impressed with the Wagyu. Ribeye wasn't that special. Too thin and you can't even taste the tenderness or may be it wasn't that tender. Foie gras is tricky to grill well. The kalbi (beef rib) is a bit tough. Not bad but not the best quality. The eel was very good. The abalone wasn't bad but you won't taste much of it. Their french fries turned out pretty good with battered and seasoning. They also have crabs on the buffet table. Fruits and salads but nothing fancy and not a lot of choices. All in all, the quality is average, three most impressive was the charcoal grill. My friends and I have been wanting to try an AYCE restaurant. We came here as I heard raved reviews about this place. Indeed the food and service were great. There are 3 price points: $29, $40 and $69. The middle and the top one have seafood besides meat. The top one has everything plus wagyu, rib eye and lamb rack, etc. They offer the same menu for lunch and dinner. You have 2 hours to dine. We had the middle option. The food was very fresh. I liked their self served appetizers. The beef and pork were yummy. The chicken wings were seasoned well. But they take longer to cook, and they are harder to cook well without burning the skin, same for the prawns. I liked the eel which is already cooked. Just need a little reheat on the grill. Chicken knees are yummy, too. They provide cumin and dry chilli powder as condiments besides soy sauce. The soft ice cream was good. It was more like sorbet than ice cream. The restaurant is bright and spacious. They have one grill per table. A group of 3 to 4 would be perfect. Even though the table can fit 6, it's a bit too cozy. The size of the grill would be too small for more than 4 people. The servers will change the net quite frequently for you. The only thing I find awkward was that they can't split the bill on the machine. It's either you pay by cash or one person pays the whole bill on the machine. We were a group of 4 and wanted to go on a Tuesday night. I didn't think to make a reservation since it wasn't a weekend but decided to call around 4PM as we wanted to eat around 6ish. They mentioned that there's only 8:45 available. When we got there at 8:45 we had to wait for another 30 minute still which was a bit annoying as we were really hungry for AYCE. We got the classic AYCE at 28.85 and it's really well worth your money. The food was really fresh and the area is pretty clean. The Korean beef belly was really good and quickest to cook. I'd say the food made up for the service Pros: - food was fresh and tasty - came with cumin powder that you can dip - there wasn't any food we didn't like - price is really worth - comes with Melona at the end! Cons: - slow service / understaffed - had to wait a long time to be seated - did not get all the stuff that we ordered (missing plates of meat and noodle) also they underestimated that we can finish the food - the pork belly takes long to cook and causes fire easily - did not get more tongs because they didn't have enough ( only 2 tongs shared between 4 people) read more

The whole dining experience was great! The servers were attentive and gave good explanation of everything. A couple of items were missed in our order but were brought out quickly after we pointed it out. When the crab was brought out to the main area, a plate was brought direct to each table and we were told where they were located if we wanted more. Unfortunate things were: -that we were sat close to the kitchen entrance area and could see inside everytime someone past through the curtains. It was not pretty: exact opposite! Food tasted fresh and delicious. Staff served our orders promptly and were polite. Overall good dining experience and reasonable prices.

The 'tan' in their moniker stands for charcoal in Chinese and they do give you plenty of it for the grill , so if you like smoke you've found the right place ! There's an adjustable vent duct right above the grill and trust me that'll come in handy in no time . During our stay the grill mesh was changed twice and that's frequent enough . Was told by a fellow foodie that they've recently switched to an AYCE format and we find the food quality to be surprisingly strong .
