My daughter and I were out in Richmond and we needed some dinner, so we decided to try Memory Corner. It's a Taiwanese restaurant with all sorts of ornaments and curios that adorn the restaurant, and make you feel as though you are actually in Taiwan. The Chinese Restaurant Awards voted Memory Corner as best Taiwanese restaurant in Vancouver's 20 Best. We weren't extraordinarily hungry so we shared one order of Three Cups Stewed Oil Tofu with Rice, and an Earl Grey Milk Tea. Three Cups Stewed Oil Tofu with Rice: This dish was my choice and definitely not something my daughter would have chosen but she ended up loving this dish. She said if we ever come back to this restaurant she'd like to have an order of this same dish all to herself! Earl Grey Milk Tea: My daughter chose this one. While I've had plenty of Earl Grey throughout my life, this was my first time (and hers as well) having a cold Earl Grey Milk Tea. She made a good choice! The Earl Grey flavor was very pronounced, and the drink was not overly sweet.  There was a pot of free tea on our table as well. I have no idea what kind of tea was inside but it was actually quite good. My daughter's not much of a tea drinker; especially not when it comes to Asian tea...but even she liked the free tea! Came here from a friend's recommendation and it's now a new favorite spot! FOOD: 1. Beef noodle tomato soup - 10/10! My favorite item that we ordered. The beef is SO tender and the broth was comforting :) I really enjoyed this dish a lot and actually came back again for this dish. 2. Seafood Crispy fried noodles pot - I liked the broth but honestly I was not a fan of the crispy fried noodles because the texture of the noodles sort of felt like tiny sponges! Definitely something different from the usual noodles and I can see how some people may enjoy it but personally for me it wasn't my favorite. Good broth and seafood though! And very decent portions. 3. Braised pork over rice - This was my parents favorite. The sauce drenches the rice which not a lot of places do this. Most places I've been to have pretty minimal sauce on over their rice so this was delicious because of the sauciness. Pork was also very well braised and delicious! 4. Chili wonton - Decent appetizer! Honestly it had a good kick of spice but it wasn't a flavorful kick if you know what I mean. Wish it could have been a bit more flavorful and savory but still enjoyable! SERVICE: Quick and attentive! We were seated pretty quickly but we also came on a weekday during lunch so maybe that's why. Servers were nice and checked in occasionally. AMBIANCE: 10/10 for the ambiance! It's so so cute! Beautiful decor and ambiance, but unfortunately the food fell flat for us. Maybe we ordered the wrong items... My group of 3 put our name on the list Saturday night around 6:50 pm and was seated around 7:30. They hand you a buzzer when you arrive so that you can wait either outside or in the car. After getting seated, it took us a while to figure out what we wanted as the menu is very extensive. We shared the following: Basil egg roll ($12.25) - very oily and didn't have a strong basil taste. Wouldn't recommend Fried noodle in satay sauce and pork ($17.50) - this was my first time eating noodles stirfried with satay sauce and I don't think I like the combination. Satay sauce is great for hot pot, but when it's paired with noodles, it gives the noodles a grainy texture we didn't like. Also it didn't feel like there was much pork in the noodles as the pork was cut up into tiny pieces Beef brisket and tomato ($12.95) - the only dish I liked of the night. Came with a lot of sauce too, so it went really well with dinner 3 cup oil tofu ($15.50) - didn't taste like anything special, just a regular stirfried tofu dish with rice on the side We also each got a drink, which took forever to come out. We thought they had forgotten the drinks and had to follow up with our server to check on the status. My blueberry juice ($7.70) was good though. The ambiance of the place is good, but we would have preferred larger tables and more comfortable seating. Benches are fine, but it gets tiring to sit up straight for the whole meal instead of having a back rest to lean on. The decor inside makes me feel as I'm eating in one of the Taiwanese night market. Very cool and interesting. To top it off the food was delicious although the mild popcorn chicken fried rice was still a bit spicy for me. My partner loved it. The chicken was tender. We also had the house special lamb soup. The herbal taste in the soup is very unique and flavourful without tasting like herbal medicine. We'll definitely come back and try their other dishes such as hot pot. Once you step inside Memory Corner, you feel like you're in Asia. It was a fantastic experience looking at all the little details in their decor. From the asian style wooden doors on the walls to the red paper lanterns on the ceiling, you feel like being swept away into another part of the world. The food was just as exciting. The deep fried nugget chicken was very flavourful. This was under Taiwanese Favourites on the menu which comes in a set. It includes 3 types of marinated veggies, a bowl of rice and soup. The lamb rice noodle soup is herbal and smells medicinal. On the table: Lamb rice noodle soup $13.75 Deep fried nugget chicken with rice $14.75 Deep fried squid tentacles $11.75 Memory Corner has great customer service but they need to change their menu. Arrived here as a group of two on weekdays during lunch hours. Staff checked our vaccination status before they seated us. Once seated, they told us that we can order by scanning the QR code on the table. The menu is available in both English and Chinese. They used a lot of abbreviation on the English menu, like DP for Deep Fried, and PF for Pan Fried, not gonna lie it was a bit confusing at first. I ordered Marinated Rib with Rice. The rib was tender, and flavourful. I really enjoyed all the side dishes included with this combo too. My only complain was the rice is too wet, and a bit clumpy. Once I entered the restaurant, two Taiwan posts boxes sitting next to the front door and lots of red lanterns hanging around the ceiling. These setup reminded me of the beautiful Jiou Fen 九份 and Shi Fen Train Station 十分車站 . All the unique vintage decorations and vibes reminded me of the Taiwan night market food stalls. People just parked the motorcycle besides the food stall and enjoyed the food. One of our favourite restaurants we visited around the Vancouver area. The food was great and the portions are a good value. We ordered the Kimchi w/ Seafood Hot Pot and the Three Cups Stewed Chicken w/rice. The hot pot came with rice. The stewed chicken came with an assortment of side dishes and miso soup. First time here, the Google review photo of the giant doll attracted us to give them a try. Based on server recommendation, we ordered the fried platter, beef roll and beef noodle soup. Taste 0.5/1* First off, fried chicken nugget was by far the best I've had in greater Van, let's get that right! Mushrooms were also not bad, wife enjoyed it more. Rest of the fried platter however, we're a little more questionable...blood was oddly hard when it should be crispy outside and chewy inside, fish cake had the same issue, and the beans were quite dry. Beef rolls were tiny, photo shown 3 but came with 5, and due to the small size, balance was all off, could not taste the beef or the sauce, which kind of negates the point of a beef roll. Beef noodle soup was quite tasty, beef was perfectly cooked just breaks apart easily, though the broth did not taste authentic, more like it was made with additives in order to enhance the flavour. Value 0/1* For the quality of food that you get, definitely on the more expensive side. But if you are going on a date or trying to impress someone from out of town, this can be a good spot. This place is so cute! It makes you feel like you're dining in the streets of Taiwan. Memory Corner is my go-to spot for popcorn chicken. Their chicken is so silky, not dry, and the batter is always perfectly seasoned. A small thing but I really like the tea that they serve here as well. What a great place for easy bites that won't break the bank. This is an interesting restaurant with a super long wait. You get a beeper for them to call you and we waited for 45 min to get seated. Their food is pretty authentic and not too salty. The food all came out super quick as soon as we ordered via their online platform. There is not a lot of interaction with servers and you have to track one down to get more water or additional utensils. They have very eclectic art on the walls and around. We had a family lunch here earlier and it was okay. Probably somewhere between 2- 3 stars experience in my personal opinion. Interior was quite fancy. It was full of vintage posters, displays and vintage motorbike as well. Coolest interior I've seen. Felt like I was in Japan or Taiwan. We ordered Lamb Rice Noodle ($13.50), Taiwanese Fried Chicken with Rice ($14.75) and Beef Noodles ($14.95) and Fried Chicken with Rice was pretty good. Lamb Rice Noodle smelled like strong herbal medicine. My dad seemed okay with it. This dish seemed healthy tasting food catered toward older people. It didn't have the peculiar smell of lamb. Reminded me of a smell from Chinese herbal medicine shop or some herbal tea. It tasted okay. Beef Noodle tasted okay. I didn't like the clumped up noodles inside. Soup was okay and meat pieces were tender. Chicken nugget and fried rice were pretty good. Fried rice was yummy and same with the nuggets. Portion was on the smaller side. I didn't think the price tag was worth it though. Their tea tasted too sweet. Staff played the rap music so loudly. I don't people can hear others if they brought friends here. Didn't like the loudness of the music here. The order system was quite innovative. You can browse the menu via QR code and add all the items onto a shopping cart. Basically shopping for what to eat on your phone. Payment had to be done 1:1 onto a card machine by the counter. Good thing all staff wore masks. Very pleasant spot with an authentic Taiwanese feel and comfortable environment, and plenty of vegetarian options (and vegan options too, but be sure to confirm what is vegan, as they use egg and dairy). I visited around 6:15pm on a Saturday night and it was extraordinarily busy. I was quoted a 10-15 minute walk but it was more like 45. When I was finally seated, the very nice woman apologized for the wait and took good care of me. I asked her recommendation for a hot pot, and she recommended the vegetarian tomato and tofu hot pot w/rice ($16.50 plus tax). You can add on 3 side dishes for $3.25 plus tax, which included cauliflower, tomato and a noodle dish on this particular day. The food came in about 10 minutes. You get a massive portion of food with the hot pot meal: there were lots of sliced tomatoes, soft tofu, tons of sliced veggie meat, enoki and seafood mushrooms, cabbage, and bok choy. The broth is subtly sweet and gentle, but the flavours come out more if it cools down a bit -- I turned my hot pot off immediately. The side dishes were solid too: the cauliflower was nicely marinated, the glass noodles were a little spicy, and the tomato seemed like it had a little sugar drizzled on it -- all tasty, especially the cauli. Taiwanese food in general is on the blander side compared some Chinese cuisines, so you have to take that into account when exploring this cuisine. Compared to many Taiwanese places I've been to (locally and in Taiwan), this is one of the better ones. Recommended. read more

What a neat restaurant! I am obsessed with the decor and vibe of this joint and love what they've done with the place. You are transported to Taiwan the second you walk through the doors. This was our first time visit and we waited about 40 minutes but didn't mind as we were very much looking forward to it and it was busy so figured we'd be need to be patient. When we sat down we realized you order everything through your phone which was extremely efficient and the orders came out in such a timely manner. The wait staff was really wonderful and made sure to double check we were happy with everything when it came. I ordered a milk tea which was absolutely delicious! We shared all our dishes and got chicken nuggets which were my second fave dish - super juicy and crispy skin with hints of light garlic. We got the sweet n sour fish which is done very much like sweet and sour pork but my god fish is so much better! I like the fish version because the skin/coating is extra crispy with a super soft and flakey inside. This was our fave dish! Then we got the Taiwanese pancake which had a bit too much of a gummy texture for me so I skipped out as I couldn't move passed the texture. We also got the seafood noodles and wonton soup. The wontons were delicious and super flavourful, the noodles were chewy and real long and the broth was simple and tasty. The seafood noodles were prob the least impressive to me but regardless still good! I missed some heat on them! Overall we loved our experience here and would go back. Nostalgic decor and authentic Taiwanese flavors -- I can't speak too much on the food as I only had one dish (chicken nuggets) and milk tea, but those were both great! Definitely excited to come back again :) I only docked a star because I felt a little rushed by the servers getting out the door. My favourite Taiwanese beef noodle in Richmond hands down. It's a not your traditional beef noodle (comes with a tomato broth, carrots and daikon) but it's so satisfying. You can adjust the spice level and the thickness of the noodles. Portions are decent but the 2 of us always order an appetizer to ensure a full belly. There's always a lineup but the food comes fast. Came here tonight for a late night dinner. Wanted to try this new location and heard about the funky interior decor. The vintage decor was awesome and did give me that "transport me back in time" feel. We scanned the QR code and ordered our food through their app on our phone. For the food, my friend and I order the pork sauce over noodles, Taiwanese fried chicken over fried rice and sugar cane drink. The portions were a good size. The fried chicken was delicious and the fried rice cooked to perfection. The noodles was good but wished I ordered it with some spice. They also give your a pot of tea when you sit down. I asked the server what type of the and he said just Taiwanese tea. I told him it taste like milky oolong tea which I know Taiwan is one of the leaders in growing this type of tea. I've been to Memory Corner throughout the years when they were located across from Richmond city hall. They also have a "sister restaurant" called Sweet Memory, which is more of a drinking place and eat Taiwanese street food. I've never really liked their food that much as I thought it could have tasted better considering the price they charged. As soon as you enter the restaurant, it's definitely a "WOW!" factor. Your eyes adjust to the dim lighting of the restaurant as you take in the traditional Taiwanese scene. I cannot emphasize how much I love the interior decorations. The entire restaurant is basically a time travel to Taiwan's old days. Welcome to Taiwan!! I was so full of pride. As for COVID measures, they took our temperature and wrote down our contact info. The restaurant has also used online ordering where we would scan the QR code and order the food ourselves. The menu prices have increased quite a bit. Comments about food: 1. House special lamb pot for 1 $18.25 - this pot is made with the Chinese herb dong quai and I love this herb. The lamb pot comes with some lamb chunks, mushrooms, veggies, rice and sauce for the meat. It was decent; however, I thought the soup could have been richer of the dong guai taste. It was a very very light flavor. 2. Fried chicken combo $14.75 - I loved the presentation of this combo. The soup was served in a mini pot that looked like the infamous Da Tung Pot (almost all Taiwanese households have this pot). The side dishes were a little on the bland side. What was most disappointing was the fried chicken. At a first glance, the portion looked good. However, as soon as I started chowing down, there was BARELY any meat. They must have pounded the thigh so absolutely utterly thin in order to make it "stretch". Some sections of my chicken "strips" had nothing but batter. What it essentially tasted like was greasy batter. It was a little gross. This was a shame because their batter was actually quite authentic. So, I called the server over and asked her about it. She told me this is how Taiwanese fried chickens are like. She could tell this to a non-Taiwanese and probably get away with it but definitely not to someone born in Taiwan. In conclusion, had i not been so impressed with their interior decoration, I would probably have given them a 2 star. The prices were way too high for the food they served. I didn't think my chicken was worth $14.75. With that said, if you want to feel like you're in Taiwan, please do try them out. read more

My friend and I went to Memory Corner at an odd time - 3:42 pm - because we wanted to avoid the rush hour crowd. There are no physical menus, only QR codes to scan. There are so many options. A word from the indecisive to the indecisive: ask the server about their most popular dishes, it will save you so much brain power. For food, we ordered the deep fried crispy chicken ($11.95), minced pork on rice ($10.50), and deep fried oyster mushrooms ($10.50). Delicious traditional Taiwanese food. We ordered many dishes, other than the lamb pot, the rest were delicious. The service was good but a bit under staff. One of my favourite Taiwanese food places in Richmond. The food is authentic and you get winter melon tea with your meal. Their set meals are the best value as you get seasonal side dishes and soup. Their Taiwanese appetizers are pricer compared to the actual prices in Taiwan but standard in Richmond - anywhere from $9 to $12. All there flavours are quite authentic so it is no surprise they don't take reservations for less than 10 and there is always a wait list. The combination of the crooning Chinese ballads over the speaker and the big cafe style windows really make you drift down memory lane... and as you reminisce on times of old, you get to have some hearty Taiwanese food to accompany you on your journey. Visiting Richmond and was taken to this place by my partner and his family. Coming from the Bay, this food was by far the most authentic Taiwanese food I've had yet. If you're looking for a place that takes you back (both food wise and ambience wise) to Taiwan, Memory Corner is the place! I also particularly enjoyed their rice sets. I ordered a 3 cup abalone mushroom rice set and it was delicious. Not to mention, the rice sets come along with sides (pickled tofu, radish, and celery) as well as seaweed egg drop soup. The plating of it is also very quaint and reminded me a lot of the old Asian lunch box sets. All in all, the flavor was delicious. They also tend to have a long wait so I would make sure to drop in and sign up for their waitlist and be prepared to wait a bit as it's in the cold. Pretty cool decor and casual spot for a nice meal in Richmond. You order via the QR code. We got a few items and drinks to share between three people. The honeydew slush and longan ginger tea were really good and came in to go cups. For food, we got the lamb hot pot, beef noodle soup, beef rolls and spicy popcorn chicken. The lamb hot pot was not too gamey and came with rice. The beef noodle soup had an interesting tomato base but we wished the noodles were more flavourful. We ordered the classic tomato beef noodle soup and deep fried chicken nuggets with rice. The beef noodle soup tasted really good. The beef was tender. There was a decent amount of chewy noodles. The broth was flavourful with a hint of spicy heat. Unfortunately, the deep fried chicken nuggets tasted like it was fried in old oil. It did not taste as good as the beef noodle soup. The side dishes and soup were a nice addition to the meal. The restaurant ambiance is nice. You feel like you are dining at an era from long ago and traveled back in time briefly. I wish there was a spot to hang your jackets and bags, but it would take away from the ambiance. read more

I've been warned that people come to this place to hang out with friends, and food is just okay here. After experiencing it first hand. I kinda agree. We bought some take-out from this place, fried noodles, fried rice, fried chicken combo. The dishes were quite flavourful but portions were somewhat sad. Mostly because of the paper containers they put them in. I guess the food here is really meant to be eaten fresh. As takeouts, they got somewhat soggy and not very appetizing. I'll give them another shot next time, just to dine in. But I wouldn't recommend getting takeout food there. read more

Love love love this cute Taiwanese spot in Richmond. Everything from the decor to the food makes this 5 stars for me. To order you scan a QR code and place the things in a "shopping cart", and then your food gets brought out to you. Their menu has a variety of soups, noodles, and street food bites. Portions are a bit smaller than other Taiwanese spots around the area, but I didn't mind too much. We ordered the deep fried chicken nuggets, sesame oil chicken soup with noodles, house special hot pot, and braised minced pork rice. While everything was delicious the fried chicken nuggets and braised minced pork rice were my two favourites. Everything was perfectly seasoned and flavoured, I'd happily order these two again! The restaurant itself is visually beautiful. A lot of the decor came from Taiwan and I was telling my friend it feels like I'm sitting in a street night market in Taiwan. If you a want a trip back to old Taiwan come to this spot! Gives the street market: mom and pop shop vibes. Came here with my Taiwanese partner who validated everything tasted very similar to the tastes of Taiwan. They specialize in southern Taiwanese food. If you are not Taiwanese beware it might be hard choosing something on the menu because the cuisine is so different and there are no pictures on the QR code linked menu so be sure to check Yelp for the pictures if you're unfamiliar with the cuisine! We settled on the deep fried platter, sautéed lamb rice, and the pork hotpot with yi noodle and all of it was very good. As an American it provided a very different taste but I really enjoyed it! Enjoy the decor and there are old school Taiwanese details all over: pay attention to the dolls by the window, the goat sign, the cigarette display, the hand painted doors. All unique things to look at while eating. The prices are definitely affordable as well and if I didn't live all the way in Seattle I'd be coming here every week to eat so good! We came at 4:30p so it was pretty free for a table (but still a lot of people) but the restaurant fills up fast so be ready for a wait! Finally tried "new" Memory Corner location! It was quite busy so there was a 30 min wait but it was worth it. You scan a QR code to order from their menu. We had the deep fried chicken thigh with fried rice and the stir fried lamb noodles. The chicken thigh was pounded quite thin so there wasn't that much chicken but flavours were good. The noodles were super garlicky which I wasn't expecting and also a bit oily but pretty tasty as well. The food came super fast and the decor was really cool too. read more
