Taiwanese sausage fried rice
Sylvia Y.

This cute little Taiwanese eatery is located further away from the Richmond core (no. 3 road) but is worth the trek out! My party and I came for a late lunch after hearing of a strong recommendation for our friends. Their lunch menu has a nice range of classic Taiwanese dishes - chicken nugget, Taiwanese sausage, beef noodles, mini pots etc. accompanied with a complimentary drink! I was feeling slightly under the weather so opted for a comforting Taiwanese fried rice. My plate was more like a serving for two, it loaded with big chunks of sweet sausage and frozen veggies (wasn't a big fan of the veg). The rice was made fresh, piping hot with a nice flare of 'wok hei' and rice cooked to perfect (not overly mushy, nice chew). Overall I enjoyed my experience at Typhoon, feature good food at affordable prices, ample parking, attentive staff and chill atmosphere.

Beef brisket with rice + side dish

Super happy they have online ordering so you can just go in and pick up. We ordered the beef brisket with rice - flavour was really good, beef was nice and soft and they serve it with a big portion of rice which is nice! Salty peppery chicken nugget was very good too! The flavour was on point and the chicken itself was very juicy. We also ordered the wonton noodles in soup, however for some weird reason they forgot to put noodles in the bowl... so we just got a wonton soup... we were already home by the time we realized this We also tried their milky tea slush which was good! I personally would've enjoyed it a bit sweeter but that is an option you can choose when ordering! They don't have a huge selection of food on the menu but from the times we have tried their different selection of food, it has all been very good! Price wise... It's more expensive than bubble world but cheaper than pearl castle so it's a good middle ground! The food is tasty too so it's definitely worth coming back!

Beef noodle

They are quite busy during dinner for a Thursday. Beef noodle soup beef is very soft. The soup is good ,it's not beef bone broth kinda good, it's the seasoning and focus on soy sauce. The Typhoon chicken nuggets was really good. It's garlic marinade and doesn't taste too oily or heavy. The salt and pepper seasoning on there taste very legit like the ones you would have in Taiwan. Prices is reasonable, compared to a lot BBT place have adjusted their prices due to inflation. A place I would go back to, recommend their chicken nuggets over beef noodle

They are a small restaurant located on Cambie and no5 road in Richmond, and they specialize in a nice variety of different Taiwanese foods. * 滷肉飯 MEAT SAUCE ON RICE ($8.45) ~ The rice portion is huge for the price. There is a good amount of meat to pair with the rice. The marinated egg was perfectly marinated. This is a good cheap and quick option to have when in a rush to eat. Its simple to eat and filling because there's a lot of rice. The have the pickled radish to garnish and its so bomb with the meat sauce and rice. * 6/10 ~ I do wish there was more sauce in the dish to coat all the rice, as it lacked in sauce and I do wish there was more meat In general. However the flavour was good and standard for the price. * 10/10 ~ portion was huge and the price is cheap! Can't go wrong with the price.

Mango green tea

Came here during lunch to satisfy my cravings for some bubble tea. This is a small Taiwanese restaurant with a wide variety of drink offerings similar to other typical Taiwanese shops. PSA: 15% drinks with a student ID!!! I got a mango greentea with less sugar. I didn't really have high expectations going in but liked that they used mango purée instead of straight-up syrup. Pretty standard but for $3.80 (after discount), it was quite worth. The cashier was super friendly and patient as well! I can't say much about the food as I only came for drinks but their menu looked good...will be back to try it out!

Raspberry slush ($5.25)

I wanted beef noodle soup and bubble tea so we found this restaurant thanks to Yelp. We were seated right away. Menus were offered and we placed our order shortly afterwards. Service was a bit iffy. We had to ask our server twice for water and she dropped off cups of hot water when we were expecting cold water. I guess because we are in Richmond and most people like to drink warm water? The water tasted hint of detergent soapy. At least, the staff are cleaning their cups somewhat, but I rather not drink soapy water. Then my bowl of noodles arrived but not my date's. His bowl seem to have been forgotten as other tables were receiving their orders. We asked our server and she said they were making it. We both ordered beef noodles so why did only one bowl come out so much faster other than the order getting missed. I did enjoy the beef shank and tendons noodle soup. Beef and tendon were both tender. I love thick noodles too and the noodles had a good chew. The soup base was decent. The fresh fruit slush was the highlight. I really enjoyed my raspberry slush as it was made well with strong raspberry flavour and a hint of milk. It was so good that we got a fresh kiwi slush to go for the trip home. Kiwi slush was also very tasty.

Visited: Aug 30, 2019 While picking up pizza next door late one night, we saw a sign at Typhoon for buy 2 get 1 free bubble tea. Score. We ordered 2 slushes and 1 plain milk tea. My partner enjoyed the slushies. The watermelon slush was refreshing but the pina colada one was a tad sweet and artificial tasting. My milk tea was okay; it was the run-of-the-mill coffee mate powder milk tea. I really can't complain though. Where else can we get 3 bubble teas for $10 these days?! Great deal and I would definitely revisit again for that reason. Ordered: Milk tea Watermelon slushy Pina colada slushy

Kiwi slush with crunchy ice
Kasumi Y.

September , 28, 2019 I swing by there to buy kiwi slush after lunch. Since a lot of people had mentioned @ review, it was good. Nothing can go wrong. I saw they put 2 whole kiwi and 3 scoops of ice inside the blender, then pour into a plastic cup, then put in machine to seared cover on top. It's not worth for $5.50. Still a lot of crunchy ice inside. It was just only 2 customers around 1 pm on Saturday?!

My only feedback would be is if they had some photos on their menu to be more clear as to what the dishes are and how they are prepared.

What's appealing here is that their Instagram advertises daily specials so you can get some dishes for a great discount (like 40% off). We tried the braised combo (pork ear, pork intestines, fish cake), Taiwanese egg wrap, braised pork sauce rice with deep fried pork chop, and yam taro mochi balls. The braised combo is pretty solid - I didn't really like the funkiness to the intestines (I generally enjoyed it in barbecue settings) but the fish cake was fantastic. I also liked the texture of the pork ears. The Taiwanese egg wrap was a bit tasteless, so I wouldn't recommend. Braised pork sauce rice is the lu ruo fan which is a large portion with seaweed, bean sprouts, and soup on the side. Pork chop was flavorful and juicy but not crispy batter, which is okay. Yam taro mochi balls were sweet and chewy. I don't like taro but I loved this dessert! Service is okay. They give a water jug for self pour but the water jug was of questionable cleanliness. The specials were not discounted so we called it out and we weren't told that we had to put the order with a server, not the QR code, so it was a strange interaction. They ended up honoring the discount. Also, they shut down ordering 1 min before 10:30pm - guess they didn't want more money as we wanted to order 1 more dish and they preemptively told the kitchen to close. Sure it's fine no big deal, it was a lot of food.

The dining space is small but the decoration inside makes you feel like you transported to a different country. Marshmallow Thick Toast 4/5 The toast was about an inch thick, well toasted outside with a pillowy soft center. There's some melted chocolate on the bottom that added to the smores vibe. The marshmallows on top weren't very thick, so it melted to an even layer with perfect browning. The toast was cut into 9 pieces so it can be shared but given the portion I think 1-2 people would be fitting for this dessert. We weren't too hungry, so we shared amongst 4. Jasmine Tea Jelly 4/5 I really liked how fragrant the jelly was and that the jelly was a softer jelly that reminds you of Aiyu jelly. The after taste was a bit bitter but I feel like that tells me it was brewed and made and not just bought to serve. It's served with a splash of half and half I believe. To-Go I wanted to try and compare all the tea flavored jellies they had, Jasmine, Oolong and Earl Grey Tea Jelly. Packaged with small packets of the half and half to add later. The best was OOLONG 5/5- it had a slight roasted tea flavor that was refreshing and comforting at the same time. What you would want from a milk tea. Second best was Jasmine - fragrant and less bitter than the one I had in restaurant, typical jasmine flavor that's lightly floral and not too heavy Earl Grey 3/5 - it was good if you like earl grey like me, but it has an intensely strong fragrance and flavor that might be off-putting if you're not used to the taste. It was by far the strongest floral taste and smell of the three. I'd definitely be back to get these to go, they carry well and you can cross borders with them :)

At first glance, the prices are average for this type of food. However, once I saw the humongous portions, I believe this vendor should clearly be categorized as cheap eats. For example, for roughly $10, you get three large pork chops (fried or marinated, I slightly preferred the fried more), sautéed cauliflower in XO sauce, soy braised tofu skin (so good I paid for extra $5 portion), crunchy pickles, stewed fish tofu, marinated egg, and a whole separate box of white rice. This is easily $15-20 in NYC. Same price for the crispy, tender, and juicy Chicken Nuggets (aka Taiwanese Popcorn Chicken) with all the trimmings. The quality of every item in the box was top notch and all very delicious. What many customers ordered that interests me for the next visit was the Salt & Pepper Chicken (椒麻鸡), which was basically a huge piece of pounded chicken thigh, battered like the popcorn chicken, with a mala sauce on top. This is a gem for the people who live locally in the area. Such bang for the buck!
