Chinese Pork Burger (肉夾饃)
Karl G.

Richmond Public Market was the first Chinese food court we checked out, and Xi'an Cuisine immediately caught our eye for its authentic Xi'an-style eats. Having had solid Xi'an food in both New York and Seattle, I was excited to try some in Canada! There's a convenient parking garage attached to the building, and while there's plenty of seating inside, it definitely gets busy on weekends. - Chinese Pumpkin Cake (南瓜餅) -- my first time trying nanguabing! Crispy, breaded pumpkin exterior with a soft, gooey red bean filling -- sweet, warm, and comforting. - Chinese Pork Burger (肉夾饃) -- tender, stewed pork stuffed in a crisp, light bun; flavorful and perfectly juicy. Service was quick -- the nanguabing came straight from the heat case, and the roujiamo was freshly made within minutes. Ambience was lively and bustling, typical for a Saturday at Richmond Public Market. Would definitely come back to try their hand-pulled noodles next time!

Beef tendon on rice
Daniel P.

The beef tendon in rice was absolutely delicious. The tendon was beautifully seasoned and immaculately soft. And the amount of food you get for $13 is insane. I am glad we only got one order and shared, because I wouldn't have been able to finish it on my own. The dish came with bok choy, a fried egg, and rice along with the beef and the tendon. You can't miss this dish!!

Only tried the beef noodle soup.. broth had great flavor but was quite salty and thick.. the hand pulled noodles were nice and bouncy.. tendon was gorgeously soft and melt in ur mouth.. the salt level turned me off trying it again in the future tho

Cold noodles and green onion pancake
Yvonne Y.

Hubby got the cold noodles and a quarter of the green onion pancake while I was ordering at Hei Hei. I think I would enjoy this much more if I don't order a full meal from Hei Hei. Cold noodles - 4/5. I enjoy the crunchy cucumber and the smooth cold noodles texture with the spicy sauce. Green onions pancake - very fluffy. Wish it is salted a bit more. All in all, it's a solid cheap eat.

Pretty decent Xian style (surprise, surprise) food stall in Richmond Public Market. Parking is available in the lot attached to the building. Looks like a mom (and pop?) shop. In fact, the owner's kids behind the counter seemed bored out of their skulls. Haha. This place has mostly noodle soup, but also other goodies such as lamb skewers, and deep fried buns. They have several noodle types, but my go to is always their thick noodles. The wide flat ones, not the udon ones. The food is basically home cooking. The lamb soup noodle hit the spot. Decent chunks of meat, and plenty of noodles as opposed to just soup. I actually left satisfied. Special mention. I also tried their skewers, which were a bit pricey ($10 for 3 as of the time of writing). Decent spices, but a bit on the salty side, which is a shame, because otherwise I could recommend them. Overall I'd stick to the noodle soup. Wouldn't mind coming back at some point.

Curry brisket rice

I got off work late and wanted a quick meal before heading home so thought I'd stop by the Richmond Public Market. I got here close to 7 pm on a weekday and most to the food stalls were already closed. Luckily Xi'an Cuisine was open and I go their curry brisket rice. I was pleasantly surprised that it came with side dishes and really rounded out this meal. The brisket was flavourful, I liked the vegetables. There was some marinated pork like Taiwanese lu rou and a fried egg. I was very full and couldn't finish all the food. Would love to try their other dishes next time.

Was craving noodles and stopped here to get an order of dan dan noodles. The portions were massive and a decent price for a market. The sauce on the noodles was really rich and loved all the veggies incorporated. Service was fairly fast. I wish I tried the hand pulled noodle soup since it looked tasty! I'd come back here if I was in the area.

As fans of the Xi'an noodles in New York (and in general), we knew we had to try out this Xi'an Cuisine in the Richmond Public Market for comparison! - PARKING - There's a parking lot that connects to the Richmond Public Market and is an easy walk over for convenience! Be careful of crazy/fast drivers that speed around the corners! We witnessed at least 3 cars going way too dangerously fast! - SERVICE/ENVIRONMENT - They don't have a buzzing/electronic system that lets you know when your order is done, so standby near the stall and the staff will call out your order items as they're ready. There's several tables within the Market so seating shouldn't be a problem. - FOOD - Fried Noodle w/ Lamb and Vegetables ($16.00): What I believe is their version of the Spicy Dry Cumin Lamb Noodles. LOVED the texture and chew of the hand pulled/knife cut noodles - probably the best part! There was a decent amount of lamb chunks, and a good variety of vegetables. I do think it could have been more flavorful, but add some of their chili oil before you leave the pick-up counter and it helps a bit! Special Cold Noodle ($11.00): What I believe is their version of Liang Pi. Compared to the noodles from the Lamb dish, these noodles were a bit of a let down. They're just thick ho fun noodles that you would get in packages from the market. I also thought the flavoring was blander than the Lamb dish, which was disappointing. I would stick to the Lamb Noodles! Pan-Fried Pork Buns (3pc): Really nice fluffy bun and a super crisp bottom. Good ratio of filling to bun. I liked this, but didn't love it. Definitely had more flavorful fillings before, but I appreciated how fluffy the bun was. - OVERALL - Decent pick in the Market, would recommend the Lamb Noodles and the Pan-Fried Buns.

Average food court taste. No service because it's in the food court. What do you expect the ambiance of a food court market? Not much, not only the Richmond public market are not doing well, don't know what to expect to come in the future.

Pan fried pork dumplings
Huong L.

I came here before a few years ago doing a dumpling trail and got the spicy wonton. Although it was ok, I wanted to come back to try their pan fried dumplings as it looks good. Now I'm back and I'm so glad I did. We came when they just open so I had to wait for about 20 minutes for them to finish cooking. First impression, these things were huge!!!!!! For $8, I thought I was going to get some small size dumplings but instead, I got 3 plump size (fist size) baos! The bottom was perfectly crispy and although it was freaking hot inside, it was soooo flavorful and juicy. I left in a rush but man, I wanted chili oil. If I had chili oil, this would have been a 5 star. I'm so glad I came back to try the dumplings, now I have to back to try their noodles :)

Craving noodles after shopping in 0 degree weather at the Richmond outlets! We wanted Taiwanese style beef noodles but couldn't find something that appealed to us so we decided to go to the Richmond market with a bunch of food stalls. There were so many to choose from, but Xi'an cuisine stood out because of their hand-pulled noodles! For under $10 I got the noodles with chilli and vegetables. I couldn't even finish it! The noodles were nice and chewy, super fresh, and had a vinegary taste to it. Kind of wish I got the bowl with pork, but it was still very good. Their chilli wontons were also very taste with the homemade wrap

Must come here on your visit to Richmond! Xi'an food is awesome. A unique mix of Muslim and Chinese. This place is close to what I ate there, and Xi'an food is pretty hard to find in North America. This place is located on the upper floor of the Richmond Public market (see other review) What to order - liang pi #15. Unique dish with handmade noodles, bean sprout, cucumber, spicy sauce and these weird spongy things. Some people think its tofu but I'm told this is gluten that's strained and cooked from the noodles. So far this is really the only thing I come here for. Have tried a few other dishes. The Chinese pork burger (Pom woa) is ok and really juicy/heavy. The lamb soup with shredded pancake is unique with decent flavor. Skewers weren't bad and a nice way to add meat to your liang pi tho night market is better My only bias is that they weren't as good as what I got in Xi'an. Yeah maybe unfair comparison but oh well Things I would like to try: 8 - noodles w fried pork and chili 9 - fried noodle w lamb and vege

Beef noodle soup
Micah K.

This is one of the restaurants located In the Richmond public market. There are many options to choose from in this food court but this place is a must try! I got the beef noodle soup with knife cut noodles which was delicious . My favorite part of this meal was the texture of the noodle. They had it cooked to perfection with more of an Al dente texture. The wait was pretty long but it was worth it in the end. Give them a try if you're in the area and are craving hand pulled noodle!

So mum wanted to show her appreciation for being her chauffeur taking her around to the doctors…read more She took me out for dimsum and with it being in Richmond there is a plethora of choices. She wanted to go to Kirin. Plenty of parking in the mall. Hostess greeted and seated us promptly. Restaurant was busy but not crazy. This was at 10am on a Thursday. Waiters were attentive. Usual table service was in place. Took our order and food came out at acceptable pace. When we were done, they politely boxed up the leftovers and we paid our bill. So service was on point. The food we ordered came out hot. The staples that I order to test was hargow, suimai and pai gwut(spareribs). All 3 dishes in general were good.....the hargow could have used an extra minute or 2 in the steamer. The suimai was very good. I tasted every ingredient in this dish. Usually it is just a complete mix and you can't discern the different flavors. They tried something different with the cheongfun by adding pieces of Chinese donut to the roll. I personally think it didn't add much to the dish, taste or texture wise. I did like the pea shoots with shrimp. I think it is a good combo. All in all a good dimsum. I also noticed they did not charge us a tea service. The cost of the food is comparable with other restaurants at this level. Yes come on a date or impress business clients/boss or family celebrations.

I have many Chinese friends in Vancouver, and my last visit to Kirin Richmond was in July 2024…read more This time, it was my birthday, and my friends insisted on treating me to Kirin Richmond once again. On a typical Sunday evening, the restaurant is usually fully occupied, but my friend had thoughtfully made a reservation a week in advance, so our table for five was ready upon arrival. As always, the restaurant was clean and well maintained, with good airflow thanks to the wide-open front entrance facing the parkade. The front desk receptionist greeted us cordially, and we were escorted to a cozy table in a comfortable location -- not too close to the washrooms, which I appreciated. Our meal began with the Kirin Special Assorted Cold Appetizer, followed by Crab Meat, Dried Scallops, and Fish Maw Soup. The soup arrived piping hot and was delicious, with a generous portion that could easily have served eight people. We also enjoyed Pea Tips Braised with Bean Curd and Assorted Mushrooms in Consommé, Marinated Free-Range Crispy Skin Chicken, Fillet of Cod Sautéed with Seasonal Vegetables, and Live Crab in Consommé with Ginger and Green Onion, served with E-fu Noodles. Overall, the quality and taste of every entrée were excellent. Service was top-notch -- tea and hot water were refilled constantly, bones and used plates were replaced promptly, and the servers were friendly and engaging throughout the evening. My friend and his family have apparently been regulars at this location for over two decades, which likely contributed to the exceptional attentiveness we received. However, one aspect of the experience genuinely disturbed me. All servers, including the captains, continued to wear masks at all times. While this practice was understandable two years ago, now -- five years after the onset of the pandemic, with COVID-19 managed similarly to other seasonal respiratory illnesses -- the continued universal masking in a fine-dining environment feels unnecessary and detracts from the overall guest experience. Fine dining, in my view as an avid foodie, is built on human connection, hospitality, and personal interaction. Masks create a more impersonal, almost clinical atmosphere. In a well-ventilated space like this, the environmental risk does not seem to justify the visual and social trade-off. Rather than providing reassurance, the persistent masking may unintentionally signal that the environment is unsafe or that management is out of step with current provincial health guidelines, where masking is now a personal choice rather than a mandate. Final verdict: Food & Service: 5/5 Ambience: 2/5 Overall: 3/5 -- as the current aesthetic feels more like a relic of 2020 than a leader in 2026 hospitality.

We made a reservation on OpenTable (which is a rare platform to use among Chinese restaurants in Greater Vancouver). We were seated a few minutes after arrival. The space feels energetic. It's a more modern restaurant, so there is much color and younger vibrancy than a traditional Chinese restaurant. What else is different? No round tables - only smaller square tables - which means it's better designed for small groups rather than large groups. We ended up trying a number of items: - Beef Belly Skewers: Very good. Everyone loved them. I wished we had ordered more. - Chicken Skewers: Ok. I think asked for something but they ran out and gave us gizzards and hearts, which are never good because they become mealy and not enjoyable to eat. - Dungeness Crab with Salty Egg Yolk: Good. Prepared as well as lots of restaurants. They provide disposable gloves to eat with, but nothing to crack the shells. - Stir Fried Vegetables: Good. No complaints. - Fresh Fish with Tofu Hot Pot: Very good. - Fresh Fish Steamed: Very good. - Lobster with Sticky Rice: Very good. Service is really very good. Genuinely more friendly and talkative than I'm accustomed too, but I appreciated. Overall, a good meal. It was different in that the decor and service is what really stood out, and that's the difference maker compared to most other Chinese restaurants with the same quality of food. That being said, you pay for it too. I definitely enjoyed it, but it better suited for a small groups rather than large ones.

We tried the braised combo (pork ear, pork intestines, fish cake), Taiwanese egg wrap, braised pork sauce rice with deep fried pork chop, and yam taro mochi balls. The braised combo is pretty solid - I didn't really like the funkiness to the intestines (I generally enjoyed it in barbecue settings) but the fish cake was fantastic. I also liked the texture of the pork ears. The Taiwanese egg wrap was a bit tasteless, so I wouldn't recommend. Braised pork sauce rice is the lu ruo fan which is a large portion with seaweed, bean sprouts, and soup on the side. Pork chop was flavorful and juicy but not crispy batter, which is okay. Yam taro mochi balls were sweet and chewy. I don't like taro but I loved this dessert! Service is okay. They give a water jug for self pour but the water jug was of questionable cleanliness. The specials were not discounted so we called it out and we weren't told that we had to put the order with a server, not the QR code, so it was a strange interaction. They ended up honoring the discount. Also, they shut down ordering 1 min before 10:30pm - guess they didn't want more money as we wanted to order 1 more dish and they preemptively told the kitchen to close. Sure it's fine no big deal, it was a lot of food.
