Nothing like a bowl of cozy ramen on a cold winter day! Enjoyed trying out their seasonal katsu UBB ramen. It came with Parmesan but I didn't feel like it added anything to the already deliciously rich curry based broth. Highly recommend you trying it out! Also for a classic tamago ramen because you can't go wrong with a gooey ramen egg. Soup was rich and I liked that they have an option to add umami salt seasoning to it to change up the flavour. I ordered chasu ramen to-go for my sick hubby. The server let us sit on the table while we were waiting and even gave us water. I got my food within 15 minutes of ordering. I am not a fan of chicken based ramen but I'm surprised at how good Maruhachi's chicken broth was. I took few bites and like the chasu ramen. The broth was flavorful and not too thin. The thin noodle was firm - just what I like. They gave generous chasu pieces. They were tender & flavorful. We will come back to try different menu next time. read more

When the server seated us I was more shocked by the smell of the restaurant. It smelled like a dirty washroom. I was quite taken back. But my bf said it was the oven perhaps since we came when they just opened. I wasn't sure if it was the wooden table that had the smell but it was a bit off putting. I came here during their soft opening week and Marutama did not disappoint! I was so glad to hear to they are opening a location nearer to me, so I checked them out as soon as I could! I came on Saturday at 11:45AM, and of course there's already a line up! But no bad feelings, the staff checked my vaccine card while I was in the line, so when it was my turn to to be seated, it was more straight forward. I was asked to sanitize my hand as soon as I entered and was then directed at my table. The staff was quick to welcome me and take my order. The menu was limited when I came but they served their signature dishes. The ramen I had was as filling as ever. The broth, which I would like to believe, is their main selling point, was the same as ever - it warms the soul! Really delightful! The gyoza was good too. Marutama itself has been around for ages in the Lower Mainland, it's nice to see them expand! This location is clean and spacious, located close to Coquitlam Centre mall. Known for their creamy chicken based broth, I find the flavour is not as rich/strong as pork based broths but I like that they have a condiment at the table for you to add more salty flavour to your bowl if you wish. Hands down the best ramen egg in the Vancouver area in my opinion! The chasu is only okay, some parts were quite tough. The fresh seaweed topping and the egg are definitely my favourite parts. Gone are the days of complimentary fried garlic which is unfortunate as it was a broth gamechanger! Costs about $1 extra which is understandable given today's circumstances. Expect to spend about ~$20 per person. Portion size is pretty good and overall, a very good bowl of ramen. They only accept card payment, no cash if that matters to you. read more

Been craving for a Ramen for a long time and we've decided to go at this place with friends. We went a bit early so it's not busy on a Friday afternoon. Staff are approachable and friendly. Menu is available through a QR code from the table and the place does not accept cash. Serving time is quick and the Ramen tastes very good. The noodles were cooked perfectly and the broth was good and creamy. The meat is a bit bland, that might be the reason why there's a salty sauce in the table. Their prices are reasonable. We stopped by for ramen over the weekend and were seated after a short wait. I realized the name changed from Marutama while standing in line - not sure why the name changed. Service was surprisingly efficient. We were able to get our food order quickly. I think they have one of the best chicken broth ramen in the whole Lower Mainland. There was so much flavour and depth in the broth. Noodles had a good chew. The chashu was alright. The soft boiled egg was perfect. The seaweed and green onion added more flavour to the broth. I tried their egg appetizer and it was sweet and savoury. The restaurant is child friendly. We received children sized plates, cup and cutlery without asking. I appreciate the initiative by staff to serve young families so easily. read more

This long awaiting day has finally come where one of the popular ramen chain Marutama Ramen is finally in Coquitlam!! They recently opened about a week and a half ago and I have to commend how organized the restaurant and staff are for the first two weeks of opening. The line up was steady with a good pace of little to no wait - I went at 1pm on a Sunday too. And ordering to getting the food was speedy! In my visiting I ordered the Aka Ramen + Cha-Shu Tamago Ramen + Karaage - both ramen were delicious and Karaage was juicy! I'm sure plenty have tried this ramen chain before and I have to say little to none as this location is just as great as all the others with their amazingly rich broth and jar full of must add crispy garlic chips! Went on a Monday afternoon, was quite empty so the service was quick, polite and friendly. Prices have gone up a bit since my last time but it's to be expected. As always, the ramen is top tier, the broth, egg and chashu pork in the tamago ramen go incredibly well together. The fried ginger for the extra dollar is worth its value for even more flavour. All in all would return, only issue with this location is parking can be a bit tricky, closest parking is either at the skytrain station or library across the street. read more

I love the toppings at the table: sesame seeds, fried garlic and chili. Egg was perfect. Noodles were fine. Broth was creamy, rich and unctuous and fragrant. However, it isn't seasoned? There is a bottle of 'salt seasoning liquid' at the table but it didn't do much. You know how you're suppose to season food as you go, this needed that. Love the simplistic setting for this restaurant in Coquitlam. Warm-hearted genuine greeting from the entire staff when you enter. Feels like home! The menu is limited in scope but it is strong. U.B.B (Umami Bomb Bowl) with pork cha-shu. Meal was excellent. Umami flavor was just crazy awesome. Noodles were perfectly cooked and the balance flavors was really intensive yet well balanced. Overall this dining experience was superb. I also found it amazing that the restaurant went out of its way to apologize for having to now charge for the garlic chips effective June 1 @ .90 for each dining guest that requests same. By amazing, I mean they care so much about the smallest of impacts to their dining experience to communicate this. Been wanting to try out this restaurant for some time but there's always a line up. Today, we were in the area and thought we'd check it out and there's no line up! From the outside, it looks small so was pleasantly surprised that the inside was much larger than what I imagined. The place is clean and the tables are far apart and have plastic dividers too. They have a system of noting when table is clean. You have to use your phone for the menu so it took us a while to decide what to order as my parents do not have phones. The ramen came out hot. I got the tamago ramen which came with egg and 2 pieces of small chashu. The noodles were perfect and I like that it's thin. The chashu was tender and had good smoky flavor. I didn't care too much for the broth. It's okay but I prefer the pork based broth I guess. I especially like the condiments of sesame seeds and fried garlic. These helped elevate the broth. The egg was cooked perfectly. Service was attentive. Overall, a nice clean place to go to for ramen but you'd probably have better ramen somewhere else. read more

Comparing this location to the Metrotown one, I feel like the soup base here was more watered down and not rich in taste. Normally I would say marutama is the best ramen in the Vancouver area because of their chicken flavour soup base but I would say you get better quality at the other locations! still overall pretty good. So they offer both thick noodles and thin noodles. I didn't want to thin noodles with my ramen so I asked for a thick noodles and they just refused to because they said that noodle type goes with the soup. But since it is offered you should have an option to change the noodle. So my wife and I ordered one with thick noodle and one with thin noodle. The thing one came first I took out the little so I can switch to the one with thick noodle. But the one with thick noodle came 10 minutes later and I told the guy it's okay we will just switch the noodles since he saw that mine was getting cold. He said he'll just make a new one I said great. Then he brought up both and mine was still thin noodles and my wife was still thick noodles no matter how much I argued I did not like the noodles. By the way I ate the thin one and it wasn't that great. Anyway long story short they will not switch noodles. And the taste is nothing out of the ordinary. read more
