Dinner and drinks at marutama Coquitlam
    Carol T.

Update: They changed their name but taste is still chickeny rich and flavourful and noodles were done perfectly (to how you like it). They changed their name but everything remained the name luckily. The service is very efficient as kind. The only thing is garlic chips isn't complementary anymore. $0.90 for a small sauce plate full.

When the server seated us I was more shocked by the smell of the restaurant. It smelled like a dirty washroom. I was quite taken back. But my bf said it was the oven perhaps since we came when they just opened. I wasn't sure if it was the wooden table that had the smell but it was a bit off putting. Thankfully the smell went away after 15 mins.. I had their Japanese curry rice with prawn. It was tasty but portion wise it was kinda small. My bf had the ramen, the broth was nice and light.

I came here during their soft opening week and Marutama did not disappoint! I was so glad to hear to they are opening a location nearer to me, so I checked them out as soon as I could! I came on Saturday at 11:45AM, and of course there's already a line up! But no bad feelings, the staff checked my vaccine card while I was in the line, so when it was my turn to to be seated, it was more straight forward. I was asked to sanitize my hand as soon as I entered and was then directed at my table. The staff was quick to welcome me and take my order. The menu was limited when I came but they served their signature dishes. The ramen I had was as filling as ever. The broth, which I would like to believe, is their main selling point, was the same as ever - it warms the soul! Really delightful! The gyoza was good too. I would definitely come back and support this location!

Been craving for a Ramen for a long time and we've decided to go at this place with friends. We went a bit early so it's not busy on a Friday afternoon. Staff are approachable and friendly. Menu is available through a QR code from the table and the place does not accept cash. Serving time is quick and the Ramen tastes very good. The noodles were cooked perfectly and the broth was good and creamy. The meat is a bit bland, that might be the reason why there's a salty sauce in the table. Their prices are reasonable. This place is worth to try and will definitely go back here.

Oh what a DELIGHTFUL PLACE to come for Ramen... these guys KNOW how to do Ramen right !! Had the UBB Kara-Shibi bowl with Maruhachi Beer and white rice, ABSOLUTELY STELLAR in taste, umami, richness of broth, taste of thick noodles, Char-Siu, Egg... PERFECT iN EVERY WAY !! The place has a nice relaxed vibe and easily accessible, super close to Coquitlam Mall... The Service here is VERY VERY GOOD - They stop by and ensure that You're having a GOOD experience, VERY few restaurants do that.. My only issue was that there wasn't a large sign or a board so I had to walk past a few shops to identify this place, other than that, ALL GOOD !! Most Definitely coming here again very soon to try more Ramen Bowls and some Karage..

We stopped by for ramen over the weekend and were seated after a short wait. I realized the name changed from Marutama while standing in line - not sure why the name changed. Service was surprisingly efficient. We were able to get our food order quickly. I think they have one of the best chicken broth ramen in the whole Lower Mainland. There was so much flavour and depth in the broth. Noodles had a good chew. The chashu was alright. The soft boiled egg was perfect. The seaweed and green onion added more flavour to the broth. I tried their egg appetizer and it was sweet and savoury. The restaurant is child friendly. We received children sized plates, cup and cutlery without asking. I appreciate the initiative by staff to serve young families so easily.

This long awaiting day has finally come where one of the popular ramen chain Marutama Ramen is finally in Coquitlam!! They recently opened about a week and a half ago and I have to commend how organized the restaurant and staff are for the first two weeks of opening. The line up was steady with a good pace of little to no wait - I went at 1pm on a Sunday too. And ordering to getting the food was speedy! In my visiting I ordered the Aka Ramen + Cha-Shu Tamago Ramen + Karaage - both ramen were delicious and Karaage was juicy! I'm sure plenty have tried this ramen chain before and I have to say little to none as this location is just as great as all the others with their amazingly rich broth and jar full of must add crispy garlic chips! This place can not come in a more perfect timing with the fall and winter weather ahead!

Went on a Monday afternoon, was quite empty so the service was quick, polite and friendly. Prices have gone up a bit since my last time but it's to be expected. As always, the ramen is top tier, the broth, egg and chashu pork in the tamago ramen go incredibly well together. The fried ginger for the extra dollar is worth its value for even more flavour. All in all would return, only issue with this location is parking can be a bit tricky, closest parking is either at the skytrain station or library across the street.

I love the toppings at the table: sesame seeds, fried garlic and chili. Egg was perfect. Noodles were fine. Broth was creamy, rich and unctuous and fragrant. However, it isn't seasoned? There is a bottle of 'salt seasoning liquid' at the table but it didn't do much. You know how you're suppose to season food as you go, this needed that. I found the broth to be so bland that I felt queasy the more I kept eating... IYKYK. My partner felt the same. Shame. Glad I tried it but won't be returning. OH but the chicken karaage was ! Juicy and moist with a light crisp outer coating and BOMB dipping sauce.

Yelp high ratings are almost always a red flag. The good: they follow up and are super efficient and organized. Place is very clean. The meh: where's the meat? A two piece paper thin cut pork certainly ain't work what they charge! Broth was meh Would I go back? Unlikely unless I am in the area and dying for ramen

Love the simplistic setting for this restaurant in Coquitlam. Warm-hearted genuine greeting from the entire staff when you enter. Feels like home! The menu is limited in scope but it is strong. U.B.B (Umami Bomb Bowl) with pork cha-shu. Meal was excellent. Umami flavor was just crazy awesome. Noodles were perfectly cooked and the balance flavors was really intensive yet well balanced. Overall this dining experience was superb. I also found it amazing that the restaurant went out of its way to apologize for having to now charge for the garlic chips effective June 1 @ .90 for each dining guest that requests same. By amazing, I mean they care so much about the smallest of impacts to their dining experience to communicate this. I tripped all, over this here but my intent is to say that this much caring goes a long way. If you worry about the small things, the big things will likely only ever be small....well done MR.

Honestly we didn't know what to except when we first rolled up. But its good to know that they have their own (though limited) parking area in front of the restaurant. The restaurant did have a bar kind of vibe, but I think its mostly due to covid. Lots of local and small restaurants had to adjust. Making more space for take out order and leaving more space for customers to spread out. Once seated the menu was super straight forward. Ramen Ranging from $15-$17. Broth made from pork, beef and chick bones. Noodles made in house (which is amazing). They are also offering Korean comforts like Gukbap, [a comforting, traditional Korean dish consisting of hot soup served with rice.] - google ai . Perilla Ramen, a Korean sesame leaf or grounded seed, bringing a nutty flavour to the dish. Of course if you're feeling like sharing then they have some dumplings and fried chicken to share. We specifically wanted to order the Smoked Pork ($10.25). It did not disappoint. It had a good ratio of fat and meat and it melted in the mouth. Very little chewing needed. The pickled radish was a fantastic and refreshing palette cleanser. I think the only disappointing part was that there wasn't enough pork. We also ordered: Regular Ramen $14.95 Perilla Ramen $16.75 I believe that all the ramens come with a nice chunk of smokey fall-apart pork, a jammy egg and green onions. But I do love how they had the corn, spinach and mushroom on the side (for those picky eaters). Ramengers feat. Smoking Pig are doing something right for sure! I heard that the spicy ramen is highly raved about. I'm excited to try it on my next visit. Keep up the good work! Also check their socials for updates.

The menu is simple and you would expect the quality to be very good. However I was very disappointed. The broth is a pork bone broth but on the lighter side. Not much oils or fats in it. The price is really good for a bowl of ramen that includes an egg, chashu, and some side veggies. The soup did not come piping hot though. The noodles are the worst part. They are super soggy from the very beginning and worse than instant noodles. That is where the majority of the score is lost. Another thing is that the spicy ramen level 3 is extemely spicy. Like a level 7 and higher. Not recommended for anyone looking for medium spicy. Since this is a korean japanese fusion, they serve perilla ramen and fried chicken. The fried chicken had a different batter than other korean fried chicken places. It's nice and crispy but the downside is that there is too much batter and the chicken is not juicy at all.

This is great as we don't read Korean and it has pictures for everything. We ordered a regular kimbab and the jang teo gook bab, which is a stew like dish with beef, veggie and rice. You can also customize how spicy you'd like right on the tablet. Both items we got were very good. The gook bab was still a bit spicy for me even though I ordered less spicy but the flavor is absolutely amazing. The booth is meaty and savory. The Kimbab was a yummy as well. It's much lighter than the gook bab. And my favorite out of all, is the soup that they provide for FREE. Hands down the best free soup ever. Food is yummy, portion is generous, service is great. My favourite has to be the tuna kimbap! Always a classic and can never go wrong Cold noodles are also such a treat in the hot weather we're having in Vancouver right now. However, I have to admit that this cold noodle was not as good as I thought it would be . I have also had the tteokbokki and chicken. It sounded so good I had to order it despite ordering it before and not liking it . They give a large portion so it's a good food to share with a party of friends! This is probably personal preference but the tteokbokki was a bit too soft and overcooked for my taste. I also think I prefer to have fried chicken and dip it into the tteokbokki instead so overall this dish was not my favourite.
