The place feels very spacious. A local gem that I am already looking forward to coming back - thus the high ratings! I ordered a black garlic ramen plus tonkatsu combo. For $24 this is a crazy good deal and a HUGE amount of food. It's a regular sized ramen bowl - just the ramen alone is very filling. - tonkatsu is light but crispy, really well done. - comes with a generous amount of cabbage salad Now the ramen: - the broth is really umami. It's light compared to some other black garlic - but still full of flavour. - noodles are great. I get mine thin. Done very well - egg is spot on. Just on the verge of being melty and you get both halves. - everyone loved the meat. Small pieces, but just the right blend of fatty, wonderfully tender and great texture. - I loved the side veggies esp the menma - chewy with terrific texture. Just a wonderful experience and I already know what I'll order next time!

Their tonkotsu was decent-- not too salty but also lacked some flavours. The noodles were way too clumpy for me. The aburi ramen was interesting. You can definitely tasting the charred meat and the big slice of butter really did resemble an aburi sushi set. But it also felt... unnecessary. They had the thicker wavy noodles for this bowl-- less chunky and texture was not bad. I liked how both bowls didn't feel too heavy. They also have different combos which I thought were pretty good deals. Service: Our waitress was rude and short tempered when I asked a question about the broth. It felt like she treated the other non asian customers nicer than she did to us. We waited longer to get served even though we came in first and overall, just was not tentative at all. To be honest, it felt like it was because of the way we dressed and looked that day. It really did dampen the mood of our whole dining experience here. Ambiance: typical ramen restaurant vibe . Decently big space but still felt cramped. I've lived around this neighborhood for a long time and have been wanting to try... but unfortunately this will be my one and only time. So disappointed.

If you order 3 onigiris you can get a free Veggie Miso Soup. We ordered 6 Onigiris altogether so we got 2 free Veggie Miso Soups at our table. My husband ordered a bowl of Ramen noodles and shared it with our daughter. He ate most of the ramen along with one Onigiri; she had two Onigiris and a small bowl of his ramen noodles. They shared one of the free Veggie Miso Soups. I had 3 Onigiris and one bowl of Veggie Miso Soup. The Onigiris we ordered: Tuna Takowasa Teriyaki Chicken x Avocado Tuna Mayo x Avocado Nasu Peperoncino Seared Cheese x Shiso with Tuna Mayo Filling Seared Cheese x Shiso with Unagi Filling Heard the Teriyaki Chicken Onigiri was "meh". My daughter and husband both said there was something in it that tasted kinda weird. I thought my Nasu Peperoncino Onigiri was also kinda "meh." It had an eggplant filling in it. I liked the idea of the eggplant filling. Something about the sauce they used to flavor it though...perhaps the sauce is wasn't didn't go over so well with me. I think the Nasu Peperoncino could do with a bit of tweaking. It's got some potential though and is one of the only Vegetarian Onigiri options on the menu. The free Veggie Miso soup was actually quite impressive. It was packed with a lot more ingredients than I expected. I was just expecting a regular miso soup with may some tiny bits of tofu and a few pieces of seaweed floating around in the the bowl. Instead I found some pretty sizeable chunks of daikon and mushroom in my bowl, along with quite a few strips of carrot as well. I really enjoyed the soup and will probably make sure not to order anything less than 3 onigiri whenever next I come to this place so that I can make sure to have the free bowl of Veggie Miso Soup again! Hubby raved about the Tuna Takowasa Onigiri. I took a bite of it and was pretty impressed with it as well. Loved my Tuna Mayo x Avocado Onigiri. A bit more Avocado might have been nice but there was plenty of Tuna Mayo in it. Both of the Seared Cheese Onigiris were yummy. More Unagi filling would have been an improvement for mine, but I do understand that these kinds of ingredients can be costly for restaurants. Not the first time I've seen a restaurant skimp on the filling for an Onigiri. Love that you can dine in and eat these Onigiris warm instead of cold from a refrigerator. The Ramen according to my husband was "meh". Kind of a shame as I recall that years ago, when this shop first started out in the West End and was called Marutama, their Ramen was awesome. Seems like the quality of their Ramen has gone downhill over the years as not that long ago we were at the Metrotown location of Maruhachi and the Ramen noodles there were also kinda "meh". This place is kind of hit and miss. Kinda wish I could give it a higher overall rating. There are some really good Onigiri here though, so I would definitely come back for the Onigiri.

Clean restaurant with several available tables, but definitely had more of a food court feel than cozy restaurant ambiance. That said, it's located within the bowling alley but you'd never know it during dining. We ordered the veggie ramen with an added egg, and the Shoyu ramen (without seaweed or onions). Food came out very quickly. Veggie ramen was quite delicious but not over the top flavourful, nothing a little chili paste couldn't fix. Shoyu ramen had a very woody broth. Noodles were cooked well had significantly less noodles than the veggie ramen. Pork was a tad bland. Overall very good! Cost was very affordable, $36 including tip for two made this a great dine out experience! Will definitely come back.

Can't believe this was an Uber Eats discovery!!…read more Between hockey sessions at hillcrest I was craving something warm and was looking for Ramen spots near the Hillcrest community center that I could order delivery from as I was careless at the time . Zubu caught my eye on the Uber Eats app because they had a Bogo spicy chicken Ramen deal. While , I didn't go for the spicy chicken Ramen at the time I ordered an order of the Karaage and Nori fries ! Easily top two in terms of best Japanese fried chicken/ karaage I've ever had and I've been to Japan a few times!! I don't know if it's the seasoning or the wonderful Ponzu that they give you ...it's hard to name one thing that makes this dish great , but it being well seasoned and perfectly battered are just some of the many of the reasons as to why this is amongst the best karaage I've ever had !! The Nori fries, although are very expensive and to be frank quite possibly among the most expensive fries I've ever had ...were also the best nori fries I've ever had as well . Something about the something about the seasoning ....maybe it's msg? Idk whatever it is it's delicious !!! I Thank God, the price is high as I would easily order two orders if it weren't for the price. The second time I actually visited this location and was happy to get a discount even on my to go order because it was happy hour ! I had never heard of a place giving a discount for to go orders during happy hour so bonus points for sure! Because I actually visited the location I was able to order the mini spicy chicken Ramen too which is not available to order online or through the Uber Eats delivery app. I love the idea of a miniature ramen bowl as someone who's trying to lose weight but also sometimes doesn't want a whole bowl of Ramen. It was the perfect amount!!! Very satisfying! I ordered the third level of spice and it was actually spicy, which is a plus ! I love the veggies and the broth honestly one of my favorite bowls of Ramen in North America. I'm honestly surprised at the low rating really as I've had multiple positive experiences with this place!

This restaurant USED to be Motomachi Shokudo (which we were huge fans of) until that closed and…read morerebranded to Tsukiya. We haven't had the chance to go in over a year and change, but I don't recall the menu being that different, until yesterday. And this is enough of a serious change that I had to mention this.. you see, this could cause a life threatening allergy to anyone who isn't aware, and could have killed me if I didn't question it. (I wear a medic alert bracelet, carry benadryl and an epi-pen at all times.) Husband and friend wanted to go for ramen so I had suggested here as Horin and Danbo had a quite large line. We got down to Tsukiya, and waited about 20 minutes outside before space was available. When it finally was our turn, we head inside and look at the menu..what the? The Bamboo Charcoal ramen was off the menu. OK, that's fine (we haven't been here in a while, menus change).. but then I decide to go the shoyu route, so does my husband, and our friend votes for veggie. We add our drinks and any additions we might want to have to our bowls, and assume it's going off to the kitchen. Then the waiter asks if we have any allergies. I explain I'm deathly allergic to shellfish. And that's when he says I should order the veggie then..and when I ask why, he says that the broth contains shrimp shells and scallops, and that the pork and eggs are also marinated in the same base. NONE OF THIS IS MENTIONED ANYWHERE ON THE MENU BY ITEM. Edit: After a little digging, they mention they use seafood and dairy as ingredients, but that's pretty vague. Most ramen bases contain either chicken stock, pork, sardine, and sometimes bonito stock..but not shellfish. At this point I'm questioning why this isn't mentioned on the menu, and the waiter says "well I asked if you had allergies." Mah dude, if I would have known I couldn't eat here , do you really think I would have waited for 20 minutes outside to find this out? Also the risk of cross contamination would be huge so we decided to say thanks but no thanks and go elsewhere. If you have allergies to shellfish, mollusks or bivalves, don't go here .
