TIKI DAVE and family were in need of lunch while visiting Vancouver and fast. Daughter of TIKI DAVE was "starving". We were staying at the Marriott around the corner and the reviews were solid and since both Canada (and Vancouver) and India were once British colonies, we figured Mount Everest Kitchen & Grill had to provide a good representation of Indian fare by proxy, right? And it sure was. All four of us were so happy with everything we ordered. I ordered the set menu with mutton curry, rice, daal, raita and some veggies. I love full-flavored things and I love mutton (older lamb) and you can't find it at most places. This curry was amazing. The wife and Son of Tiki Dave ordered Chicken Tika Masala and Chicken Tandoori. The girl ordered Chicken Teriyaki. WHAT?? But she loved it. Ambience was lovely; service was excellent. We also ordered two orders of Garlic Naan which was probably too much but delicious. First there is no mistaking this for a high end restaurant as another review recorded. This is a solid Nepalese joint. However it is not focused and instead provides a little bit of the region for everyone (Nepal, China, India, Pakistani influences). Came in for lunch on a weekday. Quickly seated and tended to by the staff. Interior is more of a diner scene than nice cafe. Bathrooms are gender neutral and clean but not nice. Here's my three things: 1) I got a lunch special featuring fish peckora, and tandoor chicken. Good flavor but missed on the real spice flavors. Veg salad was sour and worked with the rest of the plate. 2) These folks can make some NAAN! The Naan stole the show. We were visiting from California. We arrived on the later side of dinner. The restaurant was still very busy and full of people who appeared to be Indian/Pakistani - always a good sign. They have a big tv above the bar and above the entrance that was showing the hockey game. It's a small storefront entrance on a busy street but you couldn't hear the street noise. The food was AMAZING. We got the goat biryani, chicken tikka masala, samosas, garlic naan, mango lassi and a hot chai. Big delicious portions of everything. We have a neighbor couple from Nepal who made these from scratch for us, and these taste just like theirs! The sauce for the steamed momos and Jhol is the same but chilled High-heat chicken fried rice, so good! Garlic naan dipped in the leftover sauce makes your eyes roll back in your head! Our server didn't mind chatting with us about the difference between the U.S. and Canada migrant integration which we found interesting but not surprising. We walked in at about 1:30 PM on a weekday. It was pleasantly not very busy at all, despite it being very downtown. It's one of those restaurants that you think is super fancy and unaffordable, but it's actually more like $15-20 a person. The place is also pretty quiet- there are TVs with sports playing, but the volume is turned way down. We had water waiting on the table and were given small bowls of some kinda soup- it appeared to be dairy so I didn't have any but my tablemate liked it. Me and my tablemate got the steamed chicken momo, beef naan, and the hamri man ko wa. The beef naan is fantastic- $5.50 for 4 big pieces. It's actually beef curry, which is even better. It doesn't fall out of the naan or anything. The steamed chicken momo was fantastic- the vegetables weren't weirdly crispy like in a lot of dumplings, and everything was cohesive. It comes with an orange sauce and a red (chilli, slightly spicy) sauce. I appreciated that they came on the side so I could customize the amount of each one on each momo. My tablemate liked the hamri man ko wa well enough. There are so many things on the menu that are dairy free! I was very pleasantly surprised by that. They also seem to have quite the wine list. It's a large, but not way too large, quantity of food for a pretty good price. I'd highly recommend this place for anyone looking for a cool Indian lunch or dinner. read more

Nepalese place near the middle of downtown. Had to make a special trip out. As of the time of writing, I am only aware of a total of 5 Nepalese places in the entire metropolitan area. Parking here sucks unfortunately. All metered spots. This place was packed. There was a 30 minute wait, and there was a steady lineup the entire time I was eating here. The place has that hostel feel, which is probably in line with the travelling lifestyle. Neat murals of Kathmandu landmarks (Boudha Stupa) and of course the Himalayas and Mount Everest. Broccoli soup - nice and creamy. Butter chicken - good flavour. Comes with rice. Chitwan ko Taas - chunks of goat (lots of bones) covered in spices (cumin?) and served with puff rice (think Rice Krispies) and mixed pickles (really strong tangy lime flavour), and some sliced cucumber, tomato, and carrot. Delicious, though my friend didn't like the mixed pickles. Steamed momos - these ones are crescent shaped, and similar to Chinese style dumplings. Served with some kind of yellow sauce. Tasty. Naan - tried both the garlic and onion varieties. Buddy liked garlic more while I liked the onion one more. Might as well try both. Food was seriously delicious. I can see why the place is so popular. Would gladly come back, though next time I'd be making a reservation. Recommended. read more

Restaurant is a pretty large size but the location is a bit sketchy. The service as ok and food was good. We were given a complimentary green soup; we thought it was split pea but one server told us it was broccoli soup and another said it was spinach soup. I was confused. The lunch platter was enough for 2 people but we also got the steamed momos cuz I haven't tried mutton momos before. Indian/Nepali food in Vancouver downtown is generally good but this place would be in top 20 percentile in our opinion. After having walked more than 15K steps, one can splurge on dinner. We got the draft beers, the mutton kebabs and the samosa chat to start with. Then we got the chowmein and naan and a curry to finish it off. The samosa chat was a little sour (if we nitpick) but everything else was delicious. The noodles were especially good and we would highly recommend trying them. One of my coworkers and my go to lunch spot! They have an fabulous variety of Napalese, Indo-chinese, and East Indian dishes. In my visits I usually get the lunch specials which includes options from vegetable/chicken/lamb curry and tandoori chicken. The specials come in a metal tray that includes rice, lentil curry, pakora, rice, Naan, and a dessert. It's a great option if you like variety. But if you like a larger portion for main dish I would recommend ordering the individual dishes instead. Service is attentative and even with a group of 8 they were quick to take our order and get our lunches out quickly. They are very flexible with our orders as well as I asked if I can have the butter chicken to replace the curry for the lunch special and they gladly helped me replace that. Finally my search for finding a decent Thupka place in North America came to a halt. I definitely have had better Thupka in India but I will accept Everest Kitchen's Thupka however it is - it is still better than all other Thupkas I have tried. However what was even more delicious was the Johl Momo - so so flavourful and tasty - lovely amazing stuff. The ambience is decent and the service is very nice. We loved our experience. We were not disappointed. We enjoy Indian cuisine and this is similar but also has some unique flavors that set it apart. The portion sizes were pretty generous including the appetizers. We got the mixed vegetables pakoras and nearly filled up on that alone. Our entrees came out a little too soon after the appetizer but otherwise the service was great. I got the chicken sekuwa and my wife got the chicken tikka masala. We also got an order of garlic naan. We ordered medium spicy on both dishes and they were both robust in terms of the spiciness but not too spicy. The flavors of the food shone through but if you do not like spicy food then stick with mild. I like spicy food but medium was plenty spicy. We're only here for a couple days but we absolutely would love to return. read more

Wonderful food and terrific service. Can you ask for more? This place is a gem one of the absolute best Indian food places we've ever been to. I know they serve more than Indian food, but the cuisine from that area was just tremendous here. The tandoori, which is highly recommended by everyone else on yelp is also highly recommended by us. I've never had tandoori that wasn't dry, but this place beat all expectations. The chicken was moist and flavorful, and still with a distinct tandoori flavor. and that's just one item on the menu! FOOD: again, what can I say! Amazing! We had a combination of chicken, tikka masala, vegetable, Pecora, and chicken, tandoori, and all of it was amazing! Seriously, seriously good! It was all cooked, perfectly moist where it was supposed to be moist, crunchy, where it was supposed to be crunchy, and flavorful all around. If you like East Asian food. If you like spices. If you like variety on a menu....you'll most likely....enjoy this place. The only item I'd stay away from would be the Lamb Curry. The consistency of the curry was off, and not only was the lamb really tough it was quite scarce in the dish.....not worth the $17. The Chicken Tandoori was nice. Great spices and nicely cooked. I liked the Papadam....but Wow! $2.50 for two pieces?! That's overpriced considering you can buy a pack of 10 for less than 5 bucks. The Butter Naan. What could be bad about oven baked fresh naan smothered in butter? Nothing. What could've made it better? An extra round in the oven. Why? Because then you would've had the outside crust smokey crisp contrasting with the buttery centre....yeah...you know what I mean. The staff were friendly. It's always a pleasant experience to dine in or take out from mount Everest, kitchen and grill. I think they are the closest that you can have to authentic indo Chinese Nepalese food. Everything from momo's to noodles to Manchurian and gravy is just perfect. The portion sizes are also huge so that when you order food for two people you can actually have it for two meals and you still might have some leftovers. The momos are also pretty decent in size and they they come about 12 of them in a single pack and they are very juicy as well as the shell is very thin which just gives you the full flavour of what's inside it. I've had food from this location about 10 times so far and it has been an amazing experience every time. Strongly recommended if you're looking for authentic napalese or Indo Chinese cuisine. read more

Terrific Nepalese place where you can really dial-in your meal with the flavors you prefer from the cultures surrounding the mountain. We considered going back for a a second meal -- the food was unlike that which we have tried before and the service was solid. We got chicken momo which was a great starter for the four of us, and choosing fried was probably the way to go. The Fish Chilli had some spice to it and was delicious and crispy, with perhaps a bit of sweet and sour sauce going on. The thukpa was super interesting with delicious broth. Beef was better than the chicken but getting two of these to try wasn't needed. We should have picked one. The menu is large; salad, appetizers, tandoori, lunch specials, manchurian, noodles, momos, curries, biryani and desserts. There's also a small happy hour (4:00pm to 6:00pm). - Spinach soup - complimentary soup of the day. Delicious and homey. - Garlic naan ($3.00) - decent but couple parts of the naan were too soft. - Mix vegetable pakora ($7.99) - good batter, slight blimp of heat. - Steamed momo ($13.99 for 10) - dumpling skin had a nice bite. We were given two sauces; one mild, the other surprisingly similar to a hot sauce. - Palak paneer ($16.99) - spinach purée was bland, the palak similar. Disappointing. - Khasi ko masu ($17.99) - best of the three curries. I must have walked past this spot at least fifty times, but I never gave it a second glance. Very unassuming storefront in an unassuming block downtown, but as they say, never judge a book by its cover! I had a little solo weekday lunch here, and I was surprised to see most of the tables were empty when I walked in shortly after noon. More tables had filled up by the time I left around 1:15 though. The restaurant seemed a little short-staffed, but whenever the staff did come by, they were so warm, friendly, and apologetic. All of them seemed to care about my experience dining there. I got the samosa chaat and steamed mutton momos. The chaat had a perfect level of spice for me when I requested medium, and it was tangy, savory, and contrasting in textures and flavors in all the right ways. The steamed mutton momos were also pretty good, though the skin was broken in several spots. The sauces were not bad either. I ate my fill and still had half of each dish left over, so I took some home for dinner. The total came out to ~$25, which is decent for what ended up being two meals for me! Tl;dr some of the best Indian food Came here for dinner with some friends and was blown away by the amazing food. It was our first time trying momos (fried dumplings) and they were amazing. They reminded me a lot of gyoza but with more spices. For mains we ordered the lamb saag, butter chicken, garlic naan, and potato and onion naan. Everything was amazing and my only regret was not ordering more rice to start with. The lamb saag was my favorite with tender meat and a nice flavorful but not overly spice filled curry. The butter chicken was also very good but it's a more familiar flavor to me. The naan was also amazing and really helped us clean up all the curry. read more

It got my curiosity going but I was hesitant until last night. The manager was very friendly & helpful in explaining the selection available. The waitress was also very courteous. This made picking out dinner easier than I thought it would be. After all how many times does one travel to the Himalayas to eat!? Marinated for several hours the Tandoori Chicken tasted sooooooooooo yummy & most of all it wasn't salty as heck like some places! The Onion & Potato Nan - whoa absolutely delicious!
