Menu (Silk Route feast)
Joyce L.

The interior is absolutely stunning -- warm lighting, rustic wood décor, and beautiful artistic touches everywhere. We are party of 8 and all ordered the $49 tasting menu ( Silk Road Feast) which was such a great deal because it allowed us to try a wide variety of delicious dishes. This is like all you can eat order from the menu. The staff were all so kind and attentive, always checking in to make sure we continue ordering something new to try. What really made the night special was the live music and dance performance. It added so much energy and authenticity to the evening. They do charge a $5 per person on Sat, entertainment fee, but for an hour-long performance, it's absolutely worth it. Tonight we had a chinese harp and flamenco dance performance

À la carte menu was really well priced, delicious and had so many options. Pomegranate marg was also super fresh (there was pulp at the very bottom which makes me believe it was freshly squeezed?)- really great experience overall. They gave complimentary dessert for my friend whose birthday we were celebrating. Will return.

Came for Indian food and East is East did not disappoint! It was an amazing restaurant with great food and flavors, kind service, and reasonable prices with good portion sizes. We loved it so much we came back a few days later.

This is what ripping off a customer looks like. Print your prices on the menu!!!

Return or not return? Unlikely! I don't know if I've ever left a one star review. I hate feeling ripped off when I eat at a restaurant, but that was my experience tonight. Service was bad and feel duped. Went with my Mom and twin teenage kids. We were there early 5:15pm and there was no else but for one table finishing up. Nice looking restaurant, but had to wait to be seated, for who? There was no one there but servers and hostesses. Here's my issues. Food options are mainly a fixed sampler menu for unlimited eating at $47/person. No one in my party was that hungry so the server says we can order just an entree and that's what each of us did. Problem is there are no prices printed on the menu, for real. No prices for the entrees but maybe my bad for assuming it would be "reasonable". We debated what appetizer to order and then the server cuts us off and says, "No worries, I will bring a selection of options for you to taste on the house." My Mom then asks for a cup of hot water. We waited and waited while the restaurant filled up quickly. We saw every other table receive their appetizers, and guess what. We never received anything, no appetizers and no hot water. Food came out. My mom, daughter, and mine came out first. My son ordered the chicken kebab that came with no rice, you read correctly so we had to order an extra rice. I was almost done by the time his entree arrived bc they were so late with his. At this point, I just wanted to leave. Food was ok, not over the top. The bill came, and that's when I got even more ticked off. I never leave a sub 20% tip, but had no issue doing that tonight. Rotten service and overpriced. - $5.50 for a small bowl of plain rice, for real? The server never once implied the rice was charged on top of the entree. She asked, "Would you like plain rice or Afghan rice"? when we ordered the entree. - $33 for a few chicken cubes and then you charge me another $5.50 for rice? I have no issue paying anything if the food/experience is good. This experience? All around insulting and offensive, and few dining experiences have upset me as much as this one. Can't believe the owners have the gall to charge this. Print the #%*+ prices and charge fairly. #Wrong #Wrong #Wrong

As I look thru my review drafts and "unposted" restaurant photos in 2024, this place was def a memorable spot worthy of a review for its exotic decor, cozy ambiance and excellent service. Visited on a weekday lunch and it was busy right when it opened; they offer a small cup of chai while you wait to be seated. I like the variety of dishes when you choose the Silk Route feast option and it was interesting to sample different menu items. Some dishes were better than others but I appreciated its small portion sizes to get a taste and try new dishes. Although not every item ordered were to my liking and I don't have an especially memorable dish that I can recommend, overall food presentation was good and it was an enjoyable meal. This restaurant is recommended for chill dates and is a good place for conversations and reunion to catch up because it's not loud and quite cozy. Sitting at the booth was nice and comfortable. For my next visit, I would like to return to dine in during an evening when they have live performances.

We came here on a Thursday night. It wasn't crowded so we got seated shortly. While we were waiting, we were offered hot Apple ginger cider and mango lassi which were delicious. We were seated at a booth. The decoration was very unique and it gave me a cozy feeling. We were offered Silk Route Feast option, which was a tasting menu that included soup, salad, naan, rice and main dishes. Basically I got to try everything on the menu in small portions. I loved this option as I'm not a big eater but i wanted to try different things. My favorites were Mango Chicken, Cauliflower and Chicken Masala. I absolutely loved their apple ginger cider with wine (it's like mulled wine). The waitresses kept offering to refill our plates all the time. We were so full when we left. There was a guy playing violin during that time. Overall, we loved our first visit.

Great concept for the tasting menu and a fun experience! Soup, salad, bread, rice, mezze and 3 choices from the main dishes, which can be reordered throughout the meal. Sounds like a lot, but the portions are small meaning you can try so many things if not everything! I really enjoyed the peas and cheese and the lentils. Their chai is absolutely delicious and my Chaitini was so very good. Everything prepared and served with great care. Loved it.

Saw the signboard out front promoting their Chai Feast weekdays at lunch for $21 and came by on a Friday in a group of 3. You order one salad, one soup and start with 3 of the mains. Then keep ordering until one is full or finished. This was a much better experience that the last time I was here. Our server was very attentive and stopped by regularly to see what else we would like to order. We ended up trying all the dishes. I quite liked the dahl soup, the lamb and the boulani. It was a very positive food experience and happy to recommend East is East for their Chai Feast for lunch.

Fantastic restaurant in Vancouver! Very unique tasting menu option where you get to try everything in the menu. Wnded the meal with dessert which was also top notch. Highly recommend the salmon dish which was the best I've ever had.

The tasting menu lets you try everything--come hungry, because it's all delicious! Mango butternut squash and lamb curry were my favorites!

This is a 5 star experience--food, service and atmosphere! The mango butternut squash and lamb curry were my favorites, and everything was worth opting for the tasting menu. The chai is the best, and must-have, as well!

I had an excellent meal here with a friend on what was initially a quieter Thursday evening. There was a slight wait around 5 pm, and in the meantime we were treated to samples of their delicious chai. Once we got a table in the incredibly aesthetic restaurant, we were informed that there would be a $3 cover charge for the live music later that evening and that we had 1.5 hours to finish our meal. Any doubts we had about the limitations imposed quickly melted away as we took in the food menu and decided to go with the $39 unlimited feast and chai. The food itself was spectacular. I loved the variety of foods and we were never without empty plates. The service was top-notch, even when we felt sheepish for going for 2nds... and eventually 3rds. My favorite dishes included the eggplant, mushroom chicken cashew, and gormeh sabzi (lamb-based), though all were awesome. I also liked that they added in the salad, soup, baba ganoush, and boulani, which turned out to be Afghan stuffed pita bread, something I hadn't tried before. All the dishes really hit the spot. The apple lemon ginger chai was also yummy, something I had never tried before. It reminded me of cozy autumn and complimented the meal well. While I was initially hesitant about the live music, the 3 gentlemen played and sang beautifully at an unimposing, lower volume, adding to the ambience of the spectacularly decorated restaurant. Overall, this is one of those meals that I will remember fondly from time to time. This is a must on any foodie's list when in the Vancouver area!

FUXS GIVEN = 4.7 ******************* Food = 4 Upscale Eastern fusion spiced for the western pallet. Kinda like if Sir Ben Kingsley in Gandhi was food. UX = 5 The atmosphere was perfect. Beautiful decor and great live music. They start you off with a chai sample while you wait and the silk route feast is worth it. You get to try everything you want. Service = 5 The service was noninvasive yet punctual. I couldn't have asked for better.

Have been meaning to write this review since I've gotten back home! But Best Indian food by far! This place was amazing! Staff was very friendly and helpful with menu! Their chai tea is DELICIOUS!!! We ended up getting one of the dishes that lets you try smaller dishes if everything! I tried just about everything and it was AMAZING. If you are ever in Vancouver be sure to come check this place out it is super delicious!

It's perfectly seasoned and reminds me of pizza except with thinner crust and softer bread. I love how thin it is. The baklava isn't layered like the Turkish style ones but it's also good. I actually prefer this one since it's less sweet! The people there are friendly too :)

It's in an industrial park, and the place has a tiny pastry area in the bottom and an upper dining room. You order in the cafe area, and the food is sent up via number system and dumb waiter (SO cool). Service was one person and two cooks, so it's not immediate, but it's all made fresh and you can taste it. My Russian friend advised me on what to get, so we went with Khinkali and Khachapuri (sans meat). We also got what is on the menu as "jingle bread" and a beef kabob wrap. I had to get some kvass and pickles, too. I would get the dumplings, wrap, and kvass again in a second. Not that everything wasn't delicious, but my stomach is only so big and I need to try everything else on the menu. Khinkali is effectively a gigantic soup dumpling (HIGHLY recommend, but don't eat the stem!), and the meat in the beef kabob was similarly spiced. I fell in love with the lavash bread - it wasn't like anything I'd ever had. It was light, flaky, and I didn't feel overloaded with bread eating it like I do with most wraps. Kvass is slightly alcoholic, and it's technically a cereal based fermented drink, so it tastes a carby. It's a bit far for me to go with any regularity, but if I'm up around the airport, I will definitely keep it on my list of places to recommend and re-visit.

I thought it was a burger place befoer looking at the menu. They do fish & chips, salads, wraps, burgers, burritos, fried chicken, and fries. This is pretty impressive I must say. Special mention. I just stood there and stared. The menu boards inside the restaurant run the entire length of the counter. Staff are friendly, though the ordering is quite slow. As Andrew M mentioned, the layout is indeed quite inefficient. There are only 4 small tables (8 seats total) for the entire place, along a wall. The rest of it is one giant kitchen. Best to do takeout to be honest. The fish and chips were pretty decent, but quite pricy. Not great value. Fries were honestly quite mediocre. I'd stick to the cheaper items such as wraps or burgers. Wouldn't mind coming back to try some of the other stuff at some point.

They're the best & extremely expensive. Chef knows his hold temps too! See pics. OMG I saw someone order falafel plate and they got huge, made to order falafel!!! My next visit is this!!! 2) Clean: The whole restaurant was clean (minus the table behind us who left). Nice open kitchen so you can see everything. I don't know if chef will kill me, but he offered us the staff-only handwashing station bc we came in filthy after a day of gardening. I don't know if this is offered to every guest. But people need clean hands & a toilet. This is why you won't get above 4* 3) Food: Chef offered me if I didn't love his recommendation, he would pay double. I ate 1 bite and told him to keep his $$. He offered me the Crunchy Chicken Wrap. It's SOOOO loaded w chicken & huge, made 2 meals for me. But next time I really want spicy chicken, or Angry fish. 4) Place: I give the place 3.5 stars...only bc there's only 8 seats (very busy), and no toilet. I was happy chef let us wash our hands but I think this was a one off. People need a place to wash their hands, despite staff only areas. Also people like to go to the bathroom when they're dining in. 5) Parking: you can park out back: they share space w Beefway, or park along Kingsway off hours. Chef was so communicative & generous in my order. My friend got the double burger, and we shared chili fries. Everything was top tier, even the chili fries. Just not chilli: just spiced beef crumble. But to all the fries haters who posted: you are SOOO off! These were twice fried fries (crispy outside, soft inside), plus the spicy dust is amazing! Edit: Downlow fries have better dust. Also...good sign: we came in about 10:15pm...they close midnight. They were packed with in-house diners, delivery drivers, and their own website delivery. You know a place is good when the stoner-hour is blowing up their delivery!
