I celebrated my birthday at Sula with my girlfriends and had an amazing time! We made a reservation for 7:00 PM and were seated right away. The servers took great care of us. My favorite dish was the Ragda Samosa Chaat. I actually wanted to order a second one, but I asked one of the lovely servers for a recommendation instead. She suggested the Dahi Puri Chaat, and the layers of flavor were incredible! The fresh yogurt, chutneys, and pomegranate made every bite feel like a party in my mouth. Obviously, the garlic naan and chicken curry also deserve an honorable mention. The staff warned us that another party was arriving at 9:00 PM, so we were trying to wrap things up. This made it even more surprising when they brought out a mango-coconut dessert with a candle and sang 'Happy Birthday!' I felt so special. It was a lovely surprise that made the whole experience memorable. Thank you to the Sula team--you made my day!
First time coming here. I'm a sucker for butter chicken or goat curries and I asked the server to recommend something different. They said chicken madras which they said is very different. When I tasted it, it tasted like butter chicken with coconut. It's good but not very different. Portions are quite big and you can probably make 2 medium sized meals with it. The mango lassi is good and the veg pakora is good. Samosas were also good and they are generous with the tamarind sauce. I was really excited to see paneer 65 as none of my friends have ever tried it. It was a bit disappointing as it was not crispy and not flavorful. I think the best 65 is still Bahubali Birtani House in Surrey. Servers are extremely nice here. The atmosphere and decorations are fantastic. I would definitely recommend this place for their curries.
I got the North Indian Chicken Biryani-$22.50. Was a bit worried at first when it came because the bowl looked a bit small, but they packed it in so densely that it was actually a lot of food. Very generous with the amount of chicken pieces in there, and I really liked how well the spices blended all together in the biryani. The raita on the side was very refreshing and had cucumber+cilantro+green onion pieces inside! it really elevated it and balanced out the biryani perfectly!
Ambiance is a little more than casual, dim lighting and strangely large cushion-y chairs. More suitable for adults (not so much for kids) We tried Tandoori Chicken (marinate is slightly spicy), lamb kadai (very tender lamb) and malai kofta (the sauce is amazing, very complex and flavorful, but I didn't like the texture of the potato dumpling). Highly recommend the garlic naan, crispy with charred edges, one of the best I've tried. Overall, food and service are both excellent. Without us asking, the waiter brought over some raita for my son because she knew the tandoori chicken would be too spicy for him.
Came here for lunch with my wife. Service was amazing ... really friendly and patient. I had the Tava Tikki Chaat lunch special, which was really tasty. My wife had the Vada Pav sliders, which were super filling, but a little dry for my taste. If there was more chutney or perhaps yogurt sauce in there, it would have been a bit better. Love the location, we sat outside. A little crowded with the tables being so close together.
Came here for dinner with some friends. The serving sizes were really large, could have shared it all. The food was extremely very rich and heavy in flavour. Would say it was good but not great for my personal preference. Service was decent, our server came back to check on us once to make sure everything was going well. Autogratuity of 18% for our party and was appreciative that our server made it known. Restaurant smelled good and had very comfortable chairs and nice lighting. Heated patio as well. If you go, would recommend order to share as the serving sizes are so large!
My go-to Indian restaurant in Vancouver. It's a vibrant setting where they've made an effort with the decor. Unusually comfortable seats inside. There's a covered patio outside with a good amount of seating - be prepared for the warmest overhead heater in the Lower Mainland. We shared a few dishes: Dahi Puri - crispy, light wheat shells stuffed with potato, spices and yogurt. Surprisingly delicate and bright. Sula's appy platter - comes with pakoras, paneer fingers, a samosa, and some chutneys. The pakoras are my favourite of the bunch. (Usually, I get the Bhajia which are divine - can be quite salty so have a drink at hand). The paneer fingers had a fun texture but lacked depth of flavour. Achari Murg Masala - chicken in a slightly sour sauce/slightly sweet sauce of warm masala spices, tomato and onion. It was good, but I think the Chicken Tikka Masala is better for a similar dish. Lamb Rogan Josh - wonderfully cooked lamb in a rich tomatoey masala sauce with strong flavours of ginger and garlic. A classic of the genre. We also got basmati rice and garlic naan. Love the naan. A lot. Overall it's a lot of food even between two hungry people. Be prepared to eat curry the next day too - which is no real hardship. Service is attentive. They check in for each dish and to see how spice levels have landed. Plates are changed between courses which is a nice touch. Will keep coming back time and time again. They do a brunch at the weekend which I want to try next.
Definitely recommend having reservations for this place as they can have a long wait which is definitely worth it. For main dishes, we got Chicken Tikka Masala, Lamb Rogan Josh and Prawn Vindaloo with sides of garlic naan and potato naan. For dessert, must try the gulab jamun.

Sula - Main Street is ironically not their main location. My friend and I made a reservation to visit in the afternoon in hopes of trying the tasting menu, but it's not offered at this location. Nonetheless, service was quick, and our server was attentive. We started with a Mango Lassi and their Chennai Chicken 65 before moving on to their Paneer Butter Masala and Rajastani Lamb Masala. Of course, we also had to follow up with their Onion & Cilantro Naan! Our Mango Lassi tasted as expected and was smooth, soft, and delicate. That Chennai Chicken 65 was an amazing start to our meal, excellent seasoned and enough for three finger-lickin' tenders each! The onion & cilantro naan was tasty, though the toppings were easily masked by our curry and paneer. While both were only mild, they were both very tasty. I've had quite a bit of Indian food down in LA, and this easily ranks as one of the best dining experience for Indian food that I've ever tried. What surprised me most was that although it was on the darker side with the dark wood, it felt a little classed up with the coat hangers and interior decor. Perhaps it was the afternoon vibes, but somehow the atmosphere was gentle, relaxing, smooth - not quick or rushed at all. (The only rush was me constantly checking my phone in hopes of not missing my flight the next hour... what a mission!) 10/10 - would dine again! read more

Delicious and flavourful Indian food! Everything we ordered was super tasty. Really like how they have traditional dishes and added local elements to their dishes. They have salt spring island mussels in a coconut curry. The chai was super fragrant as well. Portions were great and prices were very reasonable! Give them a try! read more
Went here for Dine Out with two friends. We arrived on time for our reservation and were seated immediately. We were seated by the front, but looking deeper into the restaurant I liked the darker colour tones and wall accents. We tried shared our Dine-Out meals: - Sarson Ke Phool: Good. Broccoli and cauliflower were way more softer than expected, but nice flavours. - Chicken Kondattam: Very good. Still a bit crispy and loved the spices. - Raw Mango Bhel: Good. I really like the flavours and textures in this dish. Just wished it didn't get soggy so fast. - Hyderabadi Murgh: Good. Just a great dish to go with the rice. - Khurmani Kofta: I didn't enjoy this one. I've never had this dish before, but tasted more like a dessert. Maybe something I'm not accustomed to. - Ginger Lamb Biryani: Good. Well made and very fragrant. - Rose Pistachio Tres Leches: OK. It was fine. Not too sweet, but nothing outstanding. - Classic Coconut Payasam: Good. Very simple but comforting. Service was pleasant. No issues came up. Overall, a good meal. Consistently amazing! Each time when we savour the intricate flavours of Sula's Indian cuisine, we discover more of their magic of balancing spices! Service is very friendly, kudos to Aryan and his team we were always greeted with a warm smile, today we tried their "Holiday Menu" which consist of a starter, main and dessert all for an amazing $27.00 ( for some items there maybe an additional cost ). Our starter came pipping hot which is an indication that these are all prepared when we order and not pre-made and warmed! Starter Outstanding item: Samosa Pinwheel .. perfect small bites of samosa, I can just have this as my meal!! They are so good, very light and delicious! Main Outstanding item: Lamb Hara Patha .. Tender chunks of lamb cooked with baby spinach, caramelized onion, tomato and fenugreek, sauce is rich and has a slight kick, which goes perfectly with their garlic naan.. For dessert we had the Vegan Mango Coconut Pudding and the Saffron Lemon Ricotta Cake both were a delight after the wonderful meal! Was told about their new location on Davie Street in the West End soon to be opening! Well, thats another place for us Yelper to look out for! read more

This one Indian restaurant makes me want to move to Vancouver. Despite our years living in Seattle and Chicago we haven't been able to find anything comparable. My mum and grandmother are amazing cooks but Sula's food taste like the food they make at home. We haven't had the chance to dine in as yet but love the wooden interior every time we've gone in for take out. We look forward to trying out their covered patio next summer. What is so incredible is that they are able to tailor their dishes to spice level. Despite me being Indian I can't take heat nor can my children but the Sula chefs are so talented and able to make the dishes mild while it still be amazingly flavorful with Indian spices. This is so rare since usually when I ask for mild dishes at other Indian takeout spots they tend to be overly sweet and you taste no Indian spices. Our favorite dishes are aloo gobi (potato with cauliflower), lamb saag (lamb with spinach curry), and any of the biryanis. I really wish they would consider opening a Seattle based outpost! read more

I will use the word amazing too many times in this post. Food: it was amazing. We had a perfect appetizer Dahi Puri, it's a mixture of flavor and texture. Too much to write about, but it was Amazing. Melodie ordered Chicken Kadai. The gravy and chicken were delicious, and yes, amazing. I'll order this next time. I had Mangalorian Chicken Ghee Roast. The coconut curry with blackened mustard was delightful. I ordered the hot (spicy) one. It made me sweat, but I couldn't stop eating it. It was amazing! Service: Everyone was welcoming with greetings and smiles on their faces. Our server was Raj. He was so helpful. It was our first time there. Raj made excellent recommendations, from our drinks to our Chocolate chai pistachio cheesecake. All was amazing! Ambiance: Great atmosphere, light music in the background. Easy to converse and enjoy company. If you get a chance, definitely go to Sula. read more

Came as a party of 6 and ordered 4 appetizers, 3 mains, and one main vegetable. Everything was delicious and the portions are very large. The standout dishes were the garlic naan, chatpata sev puri, and onion bhajia. This place is vegetarian friendly with an extensive menu. Service was great- everything came out quickly. Will definetely return. read more

Stopped here for lunch and loved the restaurant. From welcoming and attentive staff to flavorful fresh food, to cozy interior - this place was excellent. There's a lot of options to choose from and every day there is some kind of special (i.e. vegetarian dishes are $2 off in Mondays). Very happy we found this restaurant - would definitely come back! read more

Amazing service and life changing food! The decoration is beautiful, but also the hospitality. They automatically greeted us and sat us as soon as possible. The server and bartender, Raj, was so nice! He was very friendly and a really nice guy. The food came out quick and OMG it was the BEST indian food i have ever had in my LIFE , no doubt. read more

First time at this restaurant and my friend and I were seated on the patio. We got the vegetable pakora to share and I got the Lamb Rogan Josh. At a medium spice level it was made perfect to my liking. The curry flavour was delicious and the meat was tender. I would get it again but would want to try more items on their menu next time. read more

I have been wanting to go here for so long and I was disappointed. Definitely the interior has been done good. But I wish same effort was put into food. It was oily, tasteless and none of it was well done. It was way too salty or sugary. The chicken was undercooked. Tandoor Chaap was soggy. And most importantly it was oily and for no reason. Service was slow and there is a long wait time. read more
One of our favorite spots on Main Street. It's great Indian food. They have their own tandoor, which is great! The tandoori menu is amazing and the naan is fresh and delicious. We've come back to this location a few times, so obviously quite happy with the restaurant. It's Indian done right. I like the ambiance, decoration and the service. The staff are very attentive and never miss any of your requests. We'd highly recommend it. read more

Favourite restaurant alert!! A friend of mine recommended Sula so we tried to get in on a Friday night but the place was packed! - make sure to make a reservation during peak hours‼ We ended up coming for lunch instead. They have a covered and heated outer area and a dining room inside, both equally nice. I love thé décor and ambiance. You can tell that the space was well thought out. The staff was really lovely and attentive. They answered all our questions and even turned our plates over between courses and made it feel like a luxurious dining experience. The food was incredibly delicious! We ordered: Veggie samosas ($12.95) - the portions were very generous and it was honestly the best samosa I've ever had PERIOD. Loved the chutney too and the presentation was amazing. Lamb Rogan Josh Curry ($20.95) - the lamb was incredibly tender and full of flavour. It was served in a very nice little pot. I think one curry is enough for 2-4 people. Basmati rice ($5) Garlic naan ($5.25) We also got drinks and I was incredibly impressed by the flavours and quality of the drinks. I'm still thinking about Rati's Embrace. They were surprisly affordable ($12 cocktails in this economy)?? Next time I'm getting multiple rounds. Needless to say. We will be back the next chance we get. Will probably visit some of their other locations too just to see the ambiance! I was definitely blown away by the quality and flavours. For 2 people, we ordered more than enough food and even had leftovers to take home. Trust me, you'll want to try a few different things. Absolutely recommend!! read more

Returned for Dine Out Vancouver for 2022 and so glad we did. Again love the decor of the room. The seating is in compliance with COVID protocols and I was very comfortable eating at this establishment. This time around I opted for tandoori chicken drumsticks for the appetizer, the butter chicken with garlic naan for the main and the pistachio rasmalai for dessert. I quite liked the actual dishes the food was served in along with the tableware. And the food was quite good. The tandoori chicken was just the right size for an appetizer and I enjoyed the spices. The butter chicken was excellent, very creamy with the right amount of heat. And one could definitely taste the pistachio in the rasmalai...a nice end to the meal. The only negative, and it is a slight negative, is that there was only one piece of naan as I do enjoy dipping the naan in the butter chicken sauce. Came away very full with leftovers. The was no issue with the service and our server was pleasant and attentive. It was a very positive food experience and happy to recommend Sula if in the area and looking for Indian food. read more
