Wanted great Indian food when we were in Vancouver and Sula was super highly ranked on most of the sites. Definitely for a reason. Killer food, great ambiance and excellent service. Highly recommend.

Sula's was so good that my bf and i didn't talk for the first 30 minutes because we were eating so good. The butter chicken with garlic naan was absolutely incredible. A very romantic vibe... the lighting was so nice, food was delicious, and lots of beautiful decor to appreciate. A huge thank you to our server Harnoor K for the wonderful service; she was so kind and even offered us complimentary dessert My boyfriend and I love ranking every restaurant we visit, and this one was actually "S Tier". We will definitely be coming back!

Came here for to celebrate my partner's birthday because he loves Indian food and we had heard that Sula is one of the best. They have 3 locations but we visited their Commercial Drive location - it's not very close to the skytrain but it's still a good location. We went on a Thursday night and had gotten reservation prior, I would say it was pretty crowded considering it was a weekday. Their ambiance was amazing!! The paintings and artifcats on the walls were gorgeous. For drinks - we got their Kingfisher which is an Indian beer that we love and their blueberry bourbon which was sweet and sour. We loved the cocktail! Would definitely come back to try some of their ones as they looked so good. For appies we got their guvava golgappe - as someone who LOVES golgappe, I did not like the twist of guvava in there but other on the table thought it wasn't too bad. I would say their bread selection was pretty good and the quantities were pretty big! We specially loved their laccha parathas. They also gave us complimentary dessert and their chai pistachio cake for my partner's birthday. They also played happy birthday on the piona which was so sweet! I would say the chai pistachio dessert is a MUST TRY!!! I would come back just for that. Customer service was top notch as well :) super glad I chose this place for his birthday.

Really enjoyed the atmosphere and food. Highly recommend ordering the vegetable coconut curry, saag paneer, vegetable samosa, and garlic naan. We also ordered the butter chicken curry but it was pretty tomato saucy so would not recommend and the cucumber salad could use more sauce or seasoning it was just cut up cucumbers and peppers and that's it. Paloma was good for a drink too!

The ambience was great! The service was fast! And the food was delicious! I would highly recommend their appetizer more than their entrees , the portions are great too

This is our "go to" for take out. So many options in vancouver, but am consistently satisfied with this place. Had it last night and was delicious!

I decided to take a friend for an impromptu late lunch during Dine Out Vancouver at this restaurant on Commercial Street. We both love Indian food, so the Dine Out set menu seemed like a great choice. The food presentation and taste were solid, and the portion sizes were decent. However, the overall experience was slightly marred by poor service and an uncomfortable seating arrangement. We were seated at a tiny corner table, despite the fact that the restaurant was nearly empty--fewer than three tables were occupied when we arrived. As someone with years of experience in the food industry, I could immediately tell that the seating could have been handled better. My friend is quite tall, and I'm not much shorter, so the tight seating made it difficult to enjoy our meal. To make matters worse, the small table was overcrowded with two water glasses, a jug of water, and side plates. We had to put our water jug on a neighboring table and our jackets on the adjacent chairs, as there was no space. The maitre d' and servers should have noticed the situation and offered us a more comfortable table, especially since the dining room was not busy. While the staff did check in a couple of times to ask how things were, the service felt rushed. At one point, the server spilled food and a fork while clearing the table, and then immediately brought the POS machine without offering coffee or Chai. And we were offered only one dessert (Mango Coconut Cake) as they had no Rose Milk Cake (Cardamom Saffron Rabdi). I've visited this location before and had a better experience, but this visit left me feeling disappointed. To the management: please educate your staff on seating arrangements and customer comfort. A little attention to detail would go a long way in making the dining experience more enjoyable.

    Chicken tikka masala

Sula is my favourite Indian restaurant on the Drive. I always get the chicken tikka masala and my partner chooses the other dish. This time around she chose the chickpea curry! The chicken tikka masala here is divine! I don't get the butter chicken because it's not to my liking here.. too sweet. It comes with an adequate amount of chicken and the flavour is delicious. The mild spice is a little too mild for me, so maybe get medium if what you really want is mild! The chickpea curry was really good as well. Perfectly cooked - the chickpeas weren't too soft for a soft mouth, and the flavours of the spice combination are great. The julienned ginger on top was edible as well - wasn't too strong to eat raw! Ate both with garlic naan, but could've went for plain naan as the garlic didn't add much to these. Service is always amazing when I go. The ambiance is nice but it can get loud as there are usually a lot of large parties around when we go. It's quite dark in there as well.

Butter Paneer Curry, Garlic Naan, and a Mango Lassi.

Literally my favourite curries and garlic naan in the city! Even when you walk in and smell, you're already hooked..! Great vegetarian options and such flavourful curries. Always such a treat.

    Potato and pea vegetarian samosa

I've come to Sula about 4-5 times now, and everytime I visit, the dishes really hit the spot! We made reservations, so we were seated right away. I'm not sure how fast walk-ins would be. To start, the potato and pea samosas were crispy and full of flavour. I was pleasantly surprised by the size of the samosas - took half of it home for the next day. The chana masala that came with it was so delicious! So much depth and spice in flavour. I will definitely be back to have this dish alone. I enjoyed the cilantro chutney; not so much of the other one that was sweeter, but that is personal preference. The Tikka masala had a lot of depth in flavour as well. It was spicy, savoury, and creamy, with a hint of sweetness to round it out. Paired with freshly buttered naan, it was such a treat. Service was decent, although sometimes it took awhile to get the attention of a staff member. Portion sizes are good, given the heaviness of curries. I always think I can eat more than I actually do! Can't wait to keep coming back to Sula!

So glad we stumbled upon this restaurant on Commercial. All of the food was tasty, server amazing and decor beautiful. Lovely for a date night or big party. Will be back.

One of the things I found out about Vancouver is the eclectic cuisine, especially the Asian cuisines. I enjoyed it so much that I sought it out at almost every meal turn that I got. That includes this Indian restaurant. Generous portions of meat with plenty of flavor, some really tasty drinks, a delicious Gulab jamun, it really works well for anytime. My only gripe is the lack of free naan. I got it as an appetizer and it is fairly cheap, but it is delicious. I want all the naan my stomach can handle. That pillowy cooked dough that can clean up any mess is just perfect every time. It should not cost me anything to have on the table. Naan on the table is like free bread at an Italian restaurant, or chips and salsa at a Mexican restaurant, or crispy wonton noodles at a Chinese restaurant, it has to be there. Enjoy blissfully.

    Samosa Ragda Chaat
    Eliza L.

I heard through the grapevine that this place was super worth it! I went to the Main street location at first and was absolutely windblown by the Samosa Ragda Chaat. One day, I was walking around the Commercial area and stumbled across the other location! The sandwich board caught my eye, and I instantly remembered the amazing flavours of the chaat, I could not resist! Upon walking in, I felt so ... * at peace *. There is a water fountain inside, beautiful paintings on the walls, plants, and warm comforting colours. It was very quiet (there was no one there on a Wednesday afternoon), so all you could hear was the calming sound of the fountain. Wow. I was like "I can't be happier right now and I havent even started eating yet!" I sat down near the window so there was plenty of natural light in my area. I ordered the Samosa Ragda Chaat, naan, and chai. Let me tell you that chaat is honestly a perfect food. It's spicy, savoury, sweet, crunchy, creamy, all in 1 dish! What blows my mind is how it's topped with pomegranate. It is an incredibly bright and unique flavour. The dish overall is so balanced and just incredibly delicious. I would eat it every day. The serving size is very generous and I was able to pack half of it to take home. Hands down, amazing food and fast friendly service. I have nothing but positive things to say about Sula! Thank you so much. My experience at your restaurant made my whole day.

It looked like a small place from the outside but they cater to bigger groups as well - we were a group of 10 that went there on a Sunday night. The restaurant wasn't too crowded. Their food was incredible! I only got one of their cocktails - the mithai wala which came with rose petals and a vodka base. It was delicious, I would recommend! For food, we got their achari chicken from their tandoor menu. It was really good, we went for a medium spice level for it but I think we could have done hot. The flavours were really good and chicken was cooked very well! We also got their kathal tikka (which is basically jackfruit), it's so hard to find that in Vancouver but Hariyali did an incredible job! Everyone on the table were a big fan of it! Their menu is pretty big and we didn't get a lot of their items but I will definitely come back to try more things. It is also pretty affordable! Would recommend a visit!

Not the most amazing Indian food I've tasted, but overall fairly tasty. I prefer South Indian offerings, but... Had a lamb thali and my wife had a veg thali. The vegetable salad was a definite weak point, as it was just a few scraps of inexplicably blanched peppers and cucumber. Ample servings of the mains though. I made reservations for us for 4pm, so as to take advantage of their Happy Hour. We went earlier today (a Wednesday) and the place was empty at 4pm. I think it fills up later, for dinner. (I still advise making reservations as you never really know if it's going to be busy). Right off the bat, we were blown away by the interior. It is gorgeous! Small, but gorgeous. The murals, the chandeliers, the bar....and omg, the bathrooms. If you visit, you MUST check out the bathrooms. They have the most fabulous sinks I have ever seen. They didn't have a large selection of HH offerings, unfortunately, but what they did have was amazingly good. My friends who were extremely knowledgeable on Indian cuisine ordered for us, and we shared 3 different small plates (tandoori vegetable momos, cochin cauliflower bites, and some sort of delicious fried onions), and 2 desserts (soan paid malai khwaab, and foxtail millet pudding). And just...wow, everything was SO SO good. The three appetizers were so flavorful and the desserts, unlike anything I've ever had before and simply delicious. We also had drinks (but, of course!). One friend had a mango lassi which she loved, one friend had a high ball which she loved, and I had a mango mojito which I loved. (See a pattern? lol). All was great. Our server, Leesa (not sure of spelling) was so incredibly personable and lovely, and a gentleman I gather is the owner came by twice to make sure everything was okay. We came around 4pm and had a couple of drinks from the regular menu plus the Kerala pepper chicken the momos and the veggie fritters. Again, the food is very good and the prices were reasonable. I will have to come back late night to see if the happy hour issue is rectified at that time as I see the menu is still the exact same as before. ********* Came here after hearing about the recent celebrity visit. First of all, the food is very good the portions are also decent and the prices are reasonable. I would have liked to have come back here for the lunch special as it's walking distance for me, but my visit left a bad taste in my mouth, which I will detail below. The dishes are inventive. There are the usual suspects, but also some that aren't often see at most Indian restaurants in Metro Van. The staff is also very attentive and friendly. The cocktails are pricey, but interesting. The decor is trendy. The bathrooms have an interesting sink feature that I have not seen before. If you're into social media, there's definitely some photo opportunities here. The service is a bit weird as there isn't really a dedicated server for the table. So, basically, we had all sorts of different people taking our drink and food orders, bringing us food, refilling our water and checking in on us. On the plus, it means that you are checked on a lot. On the minus, it is a bit inconsistent because there isn't one single person who knows what is going on with the table, but more a revolving door. For instance, one staff member came and took our drink order, however the wrong drink ended up being made and brought to me by the bartender, even though the drinks had been extensively discussed with the original server. So there's definitely communication issues. My biggest gripe with this restaurant is that we were denied ordering from the happy hour menu by the manager. I did not want to argue about it at the time as the bartender was told in front of us to deny us the happy hour menu, from which we wanted to order some cocktails. At this point, we had already ordered several menu items (in fact so many that the server had advised us we had more than enough food and that we did not need to order an additional dish we were considering) plus full priced cocktails. So it's not like they weren't making money off our table. The reason we were given, which I believe was told to the bartender (to be clear, I do not believe the bartender was at fault, but simply the messenger in this situation), was that the happy hour was only a summer thing. Again, we visually saw the manager instruct the bartender to tell us these things -- they were literally standing in front of our table, less than 5 feet away. This was not only unprofessional, but I found it incredibly dishonest. It was mid-December when we were at the restaurant, 3.5 months after summer had ended. The happy hour menu is literally the first page in the menu book. If a restaurant doesn't want to honour their own happy hour menu, it costs very little to simply reprint the happy hour menu, remove that page completely, or cross it out, if they really want to be cheap. At minimum, they should have honoured the menu for patrons that they gave it to and then rectified the situation for future. For this reason, I cannot recommend this establishment even though the food was very good and I would have otherwise come back and supported this small business.
