What a great place for some East Indian eats when in downtown!! Recently made a visit to try them out for lunch and was pleasantly surprised how delicious this place is!! They have a combo menu I would highly recommend. If you don't see the menu I would suggest asking the server for the menu because it's such a great option in terms of variety and portion size. There are 5 different options available for combos. And we tried the Lamb Curry Combo $17.95 and Tandoori Platter combo $19.95. The lamb curry combo not only consist of the Lamb but also a tandoori chicken drumstick, rice, garlic Naan, roasted potatoes, chana salad, and chutney. The flavour of the curry and chicken tandoori was delicious! The tandoori platter combo includes fish Tikka skewer, chicken Tikka skewer, a tandoori chicken drumstick, rice, garlic Naan, roasted potatoes, chana salad, and chutney. The fish Tikka is amazing here! It was cooked perfectly and has sooo much flavour! Absolute flavour bomb with the chutney together too! Service was outstanding and very attentative. The people running this place are so incredibly kind. The restaurant was clean and welcoming. The food was absolutely amazing! So much flavor and the meats were perfectly cooked. Both the veg and non-veg thalis came with a nice mix of dishes, including butter chicken, fish curry, tandoori chicken, shahi paneer, eggplant bhartha, dal, channa masala, aloo matar, garlic naan, rice, papad, raita, and gulab jamun--and everything was refillable! Definitely a great deal if you're hungry. Flavours were decent overall. The butter chicken leaned on the sweeter side, and the fish curry was a bit mild, but the tandoori chicken had a nice smoky char, and the naan was fresh and garlicky. Some items could have been a bit more bold in flavor, but nothing was bad. Service was friendly, though a little slow at times, but for an AYCE Indian meal at this price point, it's worth trying. When you are done a section, they can refill the item (usually they bring it over in a small dish) so one can just stack as you go. Everything was made fresh and it was hot. Take a look at the photo I took of the naan! It's HUUUGE! I remember the feeling of seeing it arrive at the table. Just incredible. I had so much fun breaking off pieces of naan and eating all the different curries with it. Another highlight for me was the tangy mango lassi. I always appreciate a beautiful presentation. It looked so pretty with the nice design on top! I also love mango lassi with Indian food because it's great for balancing all the savoury and spicy flavours. Did the unlimited Thali. There's no information about it online. It comes with naan, rice, chickpea curry, 2 curry items, and one gulab jamun. You have to pick veg or non-veg and cannot mix. We picked non-veg and there are 3 options: butter chicken, lamb curry, or beef curry. The server did not specify what type of curry so I don't know what it is. You can choose the spiciness levels as well. When you want to order more, you can only refill the things you had. You cannot choose a different curry. Those are the limitations of this unlimited thali. You're also allowed to refill anything else on your thali (rice, naan, chickpea curry, gulab jamun). We chose the butter chicken and lamb curry. It took extremely long for the orders to come. Each curry only had about 3-4 pieces of meat on it. The butter chicken was extremely good - probably the best I've had. The lamb was very tender. We asked for more refills and those came fairly quickly. However, the refills for 2 people is really just as much for 1 person - the same 3-4 pieces of meat to share between the both of us. The naan was nice and soft. The gulab jamun was well made as well. Overall the quality is very good but having 1 server to handle the customers, the calls, and the delivery services is hard. Great Indian place just N of the busy part of Commercial Drive. Parking is available on the side streets. As of the time of writing, there was a nice patio in front. Staff were friendly. Looks like a family business. Food is quite tasty here. Tried their beef curry, palak paneer, and lamb korma. Their spiciness scale is tuned to local tastes. In other words, the spiciness was rather underwhelming, even at the highest level. With that said, the food did have a nice amount of heat. The garlic naan is nice and fresh and not too greasy. We came at lunch and our server, a delightful and extremely personable young woman, told us about the lunch special they've come up with in place of a buffet: two entrees of our choice, plus Channa Masala,, naan, raita, basmati rice, and a single Gulab Jamun, for about $15. We went for that and, though it took a while to arrive, it was certainly tasty when it did. One comment, though, for those with less robust tastes: it was a mite spicier than we expected "mild" to be. This was a real bargain for a well made lunch and the portions made it a very decent sized meal. The best part of our meal, however, was the server - a young woman with a beautiful smile who is in BC to become a CPA. She did a great job of "selling" us on the lunch special and we enjoyed chatting with her about her experiences here and her interactions with customers. She is a real asset to this restaurant and deserves all of the tips she receives! read more

This food sucks. We ordered Mango Lassis, Masala Fries, Chicken Hariyali, Goa Fish Curry, Laccha Paratha, and Steamed Basmati Rice. The fries and lassis were very good, and the place was pretty for an Indian restaurant. Chef Andy was giving a show with his kitchen utensils while the server was really kind, so we had high hopes. Unfortunately, the chicken and fish were absolutely unseasoned, very stingy, and way too rich. The dishes not only tasted awful but also had very little meat. The fish was mushy and breaded like the frozen cod fillets from a grocery store. The paratha was cardboard and not flaky/buttery like real laccha paratha. Ironically, I've had better laccha parathas from the frozen food isle. Things got worse when my mom bit on a stone in the rice/paratha with a "crack." Her molar was badly chipped as she spat a pencil tip-sized tooth chunk on her plate. Despite this proof, the chef and server denied anything. This is not at all passable as Indian food. No dramatics from Chef Andy and kindness from the server can make this food taste authentic or keep your teeth intact. If you're looking for good Indian food, aim way higher. read more

After the excellent reviews on Yelp, I had high expectations but it fell a little short for me. We ordered fish pakora as an appetizer and lamb korma as a main which came with free naan and rice. We were out and had troubles with the menu on our phones so gave them a call to order but they would only honour the free naan and rice with online orders. When we got there to pay, the server wasn't rude but wasn't very welcoming either. The food itself was pretty good but I would recommend the Indian restaurants in Surrey instead. This place offered 50% off for healthcare workers during COVID-19. The hubs placed the order on their website (very straight forward by the way) and picked up the order at the specified time. They even gave us a reusable bag for take out! We ordered chicken masala, lamb rogan josh, beef biyarni, fish pakora, and a naan. We asked for less salt and sugar on the dishes, and it was still very flavorful from other spices. The portions were reasonable and what they are doing for healthcare workers are beyond great. I just wanted to update my review to say that after going returning to a few Indian restaurants I used to frequent before going vegetarian, I realized Bombay actually has WAY MORE veggie and vegan options that a regular Indian restaurant. I actually recently chose to order takeout from them and drive 20min from my home in downtown rather than walk 5min to my local highly rated Indian restaurant because their food is just that much better than the competition in my opinion. I ordered Chicken Tikka for myself, Butter chicken for my husband, and Raita, Naan, and mango cheesecake to share. The food was really good ! The Chicken Tikka was cooked to my specifications ( well done and no onions ) the cabbage and peppers that came with were delightfully fresh and crisp. The Butter Chicken was thoroughly enjoyed as well ( he ate all of it in one sitting ! ) We both loved the Naan and the Raita. We didn't much care for the Roti. They also ran of mango ice cream. Instead of refunding - they subbed rice pudding : ( ) Delivery was great - my husband was late getting home, so he actually met my husband and dropped him off at home ( with the food ) as it was his last delivery of the night. Bombay's happy hour leaves this diner with very little to smile about... THE ROSES: First and foremost, let me say the food is really good! Flavors are spot on, the heat level in the spices is perfect, and everything we had was executed really well. Dining room is quiet and pleasant, and the bathrooms are delightfully clean. THE THORNS: The service. Where does one start? We arrived at the beginning of their 3-6pm happy hour for a late light lunch. We were the only patrons in the establishment. The waitress took our order, our food got to us (eventually), and then... (cue sound of crickets) From then on, we were completely ignored. The kheer dessert I ordered never arrived. Nearly two hours after we first came in (!!), we finally tracked down an employee to ask for our check, which took another 20 minutes (!!!) to arrive. Please remember during these two hours, we were the only party in the dining room. The. Only. Party. So where was the waitress? She appeared to be in the back of the dining room with her nose in her smartphone. After the food was delivered, at no time did she trouble herself to check on us, much less look at us. SO WHY ONLY ONE STAR? YOU SAID THE FOOD WAS GREAT; AREN'T YOU BEING A LITTLE ROUGH ON THESE GUYS? Not at all, gentle reader; in the restaurant business, it's all about the service. Had to come visit this place. Instagram account photos pulled me in! Lol Decided to try their buffet which they just started serving for $12.95, 7 days a week, 11:30 to 3:00. Selections were papadum, a pasta salad, pakoras, freshly served naam at your table, and 4 different curries: eggplant, black lentil, chicken and lamb and of course rice. There were no sweets, but they served us some gulab jamunat (a warmed up ricotta cheese donut hole bathed in a sweet honey sauce) at the end as something extra and the owner mentioned they would look at adding something sweet to the buffet. The pakoras were a good size and yummy, the spiciness of the curries just right. Overall the food was delicious. Good atmosphere and the staff were friendly and accommodating. Bombay Bistro catered my son and Daughter-in-law's Mehndi ceremony and my daighter-in-law's Choora ceremony the next day. The food was delicious and enjoyed by everyone. Our new Sikh family and guests from out of town thought the food was fresh and well prepared. The prices were great and the menu was really extensive. They delivered the meals and set everything up for us right on time. The staff was very warm and kind. They helped this Canadian mother select from the menu and made great recommendations. Worst Indian I have ever had. I checked the reviews prior to eating at the restaurant and thought that it would be decent, but it turned out to be the total opposite. Butter chicken first of all was not even cut properly, the sauce didn't taste authentic at all, the naan looked like they took it out of the freezer and reheated it and not only that but there was absolutely no service. My first visit to this restaurant on Wednesday, Oct 11 was a very pleasant surprise! Attractive and professional decor, a comprehensive menu of Indian food, reasonable prices, and good service. Hard to ask for more. In addition to the menu, there's a buffet option available on Wednesday evenings. There were three of us in the party, and two chose the buffet, which was comprehensive and generous. I ordered the Lamb Vindaloo and some side dishes, which were delicious. I went there around 9 PM in the evening on a nice summer evening. I am a vegetarian and I ordered Butter Paneer and they served me butter chicken. The restaurant didn't even apologize enough. The masala chai is served in a fancy container but the taste is pretty ordinary. Also, there were lots of mice running around outside making it difficult to concentrate on my food. It's been 10 days since I moved to Canada and this is by far the worst restaurant I have ever eaten in. We recommend The Bombay Kitchen which recently opened up on Denman Street. I had their lunch Thali special, and asked for a substitution (bad words in most restaurant lingo) as I find the chick peas hard to digest, and they happily replaced the chickpeas with another serving of butter chicken. The lunch special is only $14 and will suffice anyone's hunger for quantity and good quality. My friend had the lamb curry bowl with a side of rice...which she thoroughly enjoyed. Our other friend ordered the tandoori chicken (reg menu) and we waited a considerable amount of time for it's arrival. The tandoori chicken was a bit of an overpriced disappointment....$18 for 4 pieces (two legs and two thighs) resting upon a few cabbage shavings and nothing else. We did enjoy our lunch, but did find the process of paying rather awkward, as when we asked for the check....we were only told the final total...and asked several times to actually see an itemized bill, as opposed to blindly paying for a verbalizing amount. It's hard for me to find a place that even comes close to the price here, and the level of quality for their food is definitely not slacking either. I love how this place has a separate vegan menu, although one of the items has yoghurt in it so I'm a little skeptical. Anyways, the appetisers were absolutely fantastic, but the mains were rather disappointing as they were a little small for the price and all tasted the same. The server asked us five times in twenty minutes if we wanted any rice or bread even though we said no every time. which was kind of annoying. Their bathroom is nice though. Sweet Chili Cauliflower (5/5) One of the best cauliflower dishes I've ever had. The sweet chili sauce was super flavourful and the cauliflower was deep fried to perfection. Price is a little on the high side. Veg Pakoras (4.5/5) These were some of the better pakoras that I've had. They were crisp and the portion was acceptable for the price. The chutney was nice as well. Flavour-wise they were lacking a lil' something, but they were still good overall. Daal Makhani (3.5/5) The lentils could have been cooked more as they were not as soft as I hoped they would be. It was decently creamy with a good amount of lentils, but flavour-wise it was lacking. Eggplant Bharta (3.5/5) I have high standards for this dish, since it's one of my favourites. This was mediocre, and was definitely missing something in terms of flavour. Texture was good, but could use a little more peas and tomatoes. Tofu Tikka Masala (3.5/5) This was average. It was basically just tofu and onions. The tofu was kind of bland and there were way too many onions (which I wouldn't have minded if they were caramelised, but they were not). This dish was somewhat spicy even though we ordered it mild, while the other dishes were fine. I would definitely recommend their appetisers, but their curries are kind of average and all taste the same. read more

Lamb is nicely cooked, but curry is just fine. Goa fish curry: fish overpowered the curry a bit. It was fine. I'd order any of these curries again.
