LONG overdue gathering with my girls - this was basically our early christmas dinner. gifts were obvsly exchanged but that isn't what this is abt. p's restaurant choice and what a choice it was! the restaurant is def on the smaller side so PLS make resos - walk-ins are welcome but you'd be at the bar. ofc, if you're ok with that then you're good to go! the minute you walk into the restaurant, you're transported to a cozy, nostalgic japanese bar with doraemon playing on tv! since i had a reso, i was seated quickly and then the other 2 arrived. our server was super nice, the menu was small but everything seemed to be good (both on paper and in reality). i started my night with ringo - japanese for apple but you don't really taste in the drink. for lightweights, this drink isn't for you as there is abt 3 diff liqueurs in it - i loved the nori that was provided as something to cut the alcohol with. i then had my go-to gin and soda (soda this time because they only had fever tree cucumber tonic and i do not like cucumber in my gin) - it was the sakura roku gin and you can't really go with that! p has the ume and she loved the foam on it! for food, we had the steak tartare and prawn toast to start. i loved the tsukemono in the tartare - nice tang to take some of the richness of the wagyu away. the tang also helped to tweak my appetite for the rest of the dishes. the prawn toast is not your traditional prawn toast - it's on a chinese doughnut instead of actual toast. the presentation actually reminds of another dim sum dish that do not have anything in common. then came out main - the pork collar, which is essentially the iberico tomahawk. we DEVOURED this dish - the beets, the apple kimchi, the apple sauce - EVERYTHING was so good on this main. we added croquette as we needed another carb - the salmon was the highlight for this dish. overall, we loved everything we had and i would def come back for a girls' night or date. the stiff backs frm the bar stools is worth it

Came for birthday dinner for party of three. Reservation made a few weeks ago. Place was packed with people standing at the bar. Greeted by the bartender that checked us in. Drinks tried: Tonk, Suika, whiskey soda and the apple cocktail. Food-wise: wagyu sliders, prawn toast, king salmon, beef tartare, scallops, ice cream sando. Pros: - available on open table for resos - food menu changes every three to four months - portions are surprisingly sufficient- we were all quite full by the end of it - delicious food. The wagyu sliders were a favorite for the table and also the honorable mention for the scallops - cute touch with the candle on the ice cream - sake shots on the house before we left Note: - we had the table for about two hours and Gian came by to let us know when the next table arrived for their reservation

Honestly one of my favourite spots of 2025 for sure!! It was super hard to get a reservation, and we managed to get one a week after my birthday for a belated celebration. We got seats at the bar right when it opened, and I would actually recommend sitting at the bar to get more of a personal experience when you're there! Seats are pretty close together, but still with enough room to put dishes between you and a friend. We ordered 4 things off the menu - scallop crudo, hen of the woods, bigeye tuna, and the pork collar (which was a substitute for the tomahawk that night). Favourite was definitely the scalop crudo - super fresh scallops from Hokkaido, paired nicely with the crunch of the radish and also a slight tart/vinegary taste from the ponzu sauce. Hen of the woods is coming off the menu, but if you were a mushroom lover, this would be the perfect dish for you. The pork collar had the BEST apple puree sauce!!! It was too bad that the meat itself was quite chewy. I appreciate that nothing was too salty but still had enough flavour. Some dishes I would say could do with a little bit less of a kick (i.e., the bigeye tuna) so that the freshness of the ingredients can shine through. Would also recommend their cocktails! They were all really my style - sweet, but not too sweet. Even the whiskey based drinks were nowhere near what you would expect in terms of smoky flavor. The cocktails I tried were quite subdued and paired well with the dishes. Want to give a shoutout to the service -- everyone was super friendly and knowledgeable, but not overbearingly "fake nice" which I appreciate! Dishes are fairly priced for Vancouver standards. I would recommend visiting here for a special occasion/date night. I would def revisit once they change up their menu. Took off a star because of the pork collar, and just some niche things (sauce for bigeye tuna was too spicy in my opinion)

Nomo Nomo is an awesome new spot on Commercial with great Japanese vibes being cozy, stylish, and super welcoming. The owner and staff are amazing and make you feel right at home. Highly recommend the tamago sando as it totally reminds me of the 7/11 ones in Japan (if you know, you know ). The add-ons of red crab and black truffle just take an already perfect dish to another level. Also love the name Nomo Nomo as it's a playful Japanese phrase that means "let's drink," which perfectly fits the vibe here. Great food, great drinks, and great people no wonder this place is an instant favorite for many!

Waiting time: 5/5 Cleanliness: 4/5 ‍Service: 4.5/5 Taste: 4/5 Pricing: 3/5 Overall: When a new Japanese fusion izakaya opened, we had to check it out. We went during their first week on a Saturday evening and managed to snag a reservation. The space is quite small, less than 30 seats, with the bar and kitchen taking up most of the room. It's pretty dark inside, but I was still able to get a few good photos. The food quality was solid, though nothing particularly mind-blowing. Portions were on the smaller side, so it's easy for the bill to add up quickly. That said, the chef/owner personally came by to check in, which was a really nice touch, and our server was friendly and attentive.

Was lucky enough to be surprised with a reservation for this modern Japanese cocktail bar and I jumped at the opportunity, since it opened only a few days ago from when I wrote this. When I tried to book myself, the next earliest reso was a month later, so be sure to plan accordingly for this next hot spot. My friend and I were already drooling at the artwork decorating the walls, from Murakami to Yoshitomo Nara. Super polite wait staff make sure you're not forgotten here and your water glasses are always filled. The size of the tables don't really allow for carafes at the moment, especially if you order two share plates and 2 drinks, but new tables are due to arrive soon with a bit more space. The bar looked a bit more spacious than the kitchen from what I could tell, maybe it's a front of house thing. They've really tried to maximize the number of tables and seats that they can possibly fit in this small establishment and I enjoyed seeing the end result overall. The coasters were already a hit with my friend and I and served as great precursors to the amazing drinks we were about to receive. My friend got the "Ume" and I got the "Kuri", as I'm easily sold with anything milk clarified. The Ume was a mixture of umeshu, shochu, lemon, honeydew, bitters, egg white foam and soda. The Kuri was St. Remy, tawny port, chestnut makgeolli, lemon, pear and Hokkaido milk. I liked how one of the chefs took the time to explain the steak tartare dish to us as a DIY experience to mix and match the wrappings for different flavors. It was served with an abundance of radicchio, endive, nori and shiso leaves, which held the meat well and complimented the tastes. The tartare was very well done and stayed appetizing throughout. The prawn toast was also a huge hit with us and I wished I could have more. It was a nice surprise to see stuffed prawn inside a chinese donut, accompanied with flavorful sauces like the sansho aioli and the okonomiyaki sauce under it. The textures played well with each other and it was a wonderful combination of crispy and soft. I would say it was a little on the pricier side, but I enjoyed the experience and the quality of food/drinks we got.

A nice spot with Japanese bar vibes. The menu is very interesting with a nice variety of items. Also kudos for the excellent service and it was nice to meet Wayne (one of the owners?).

I had a very lively experience and vibe dining at nomo nomo. The dishes all sound very well thought out and the servers were attentive. It's kind of small inside, but it's cozy. I really enjoy the iberico tomahawk and hen of the foods dish's The steak tartar was good, but I found the fried bread that comes with it sticks to your teeth a bit. There are lots of interesting dishes and some I thought were better than others.

We were able to finally get a reservation to dine at Nomo Nomo - a bar located on the drive that resembles an izakaya. Once you walk into Nomo Nomo, you will immediately notice the Japan inspired decorations all over the place. Ambiance is casual. They also have limited seating so I would highly recommend booking a reservation if you don't want to wait. For food, the menu isn't huge - there are 9 food options and 1 dessert. We ordered 4 items. Scallop Crudo (5/5), Steak Tartare (4/5), Tamago Sando (5/5), and Iberico Pork (5/5, no tomahawk that night so it was replaced with pork collar). My favourite was the Tamago Sando, the addition of crab meat on top was a delicious touch. The only thing kind of lacking was the steak tartare, we felt like the dish could've used either a thinner bread or chips - the milk bread was a bit too thick and diminished the flavour of the beef tartare. There are also lots of options for cocktails. We tried ume and mugicha - both tasted great. However, the presentation of the cocktails didn't really wow me. Service was 5/5, very attentive and warm. Overall, we would likely come back again for drinks and maybe for food if they end up switching up their menu or add new food items in the future.

We ended up going to another restaurant nearby. I'd come back for a glass of wine and the baguette bites, but not for a full dinner. It's just too slow. Initially perplexed,…read moresince our Uber dropped us off one block away, we had no idea where we were in the dark of the Canadian night. Surrounded by warehouses, did the driver want us to experience a "call of the wild?" However, Odd Society beckoned one block from the corner, and two seats were available at the strange bar. Strange because our view was blocked by a kind of ersatz plastic and wood wagon wheel blocking our view of the servers and bar. It was reminiscent of Utah's Zion Curtain. Later, I was told it was part of Odd Society's Covid protection and helped the bartenders stack things up. Okay, fine, but tear the damn things down. They're obnoxious. Odd Society creates an array of liquors made from ingredients sourced locally by law. It's required by their license. I tried almost all of them, and most were fantastic. Abby and Colin, our servers, were charming, fun, and educational, answering my questions, which became increasingly inane as the alcohol took effect. The distillery also mixes fantastic cocktails, and mine, named Midori, was friggen unbelievable. I had two of them along with my liquor tasting. My Midori was made with a special concoction called Portuguese Sweet Milk, or something like that. It was amazing. I want one for breakfast. The fun kept coming, and I didn't want to leave. Alas, we had reservations at Lunch Lady up the street. We should have stayed at Odd Society. Lunch Lady was a disappointment. Try Odd Society out as both a distillery and cocktail bar. You won't be disappointed about either one.

In summary, the place was ok, but noticed after the fact that we were overcharged for the drinks. It's a small space - about 3 high tables, one lower one, each seating 4 to maybe at most 5 people, plus a bar. I reserved a table for the 2 of us at 3:30 pm on a Sunday (earliest reservation they had as they open at 3 pm) and we were seated at 3 pm. They checked our vaccine passports and then seated us. Not long after we were seated, the remaining tables were all taken just after opening for 30 minutes so I would recommend reserving if you prefer tables over bar seating. The waitress brought over a drinks menu and food menu. The menu showed cocktails at $13. We chose our drinks and ordered, then the waitress came by with a second menu that she said was for Sunday only. She apologized and said she normally doesn't work Sunday's so she didn't know this promotional menu was available. This menu had some cocktails on promotion that I would have not minded to try, but I had already received my cocktail. Oh well. I had the Violet and Claire, which looked great and tasted pretty good for the first half. However by the second half of the drink, it started to taste too sweet. It was not bad for a cocktail, overall. My friend said the Smoke Between the Sheets cocktail was alright as well. We got our bills quickly as we had a second place to visit afterwards. After paying, I snapped a picture of the bill at the time but did not notice until I got home that to my surprise, each cocktail was listed on the bill at $14.95. I recalled their physical menu saying $13, and verified this with their menu online. Unfortunately, I did not notice the discrepancy until I was home, otherwise I would have mentioned something. Note that our visit was at the end of November 2021, and at the time I'm writing this review (December 26, 2021), their online menu still has cocktail prices at $13. So, I am not sure if this was a one time mistake when we paid, or if they have just forgotten to update their menu? Either way, this was disappointing. Because of the entire experience I probably won't visit again, especially with all the other options Vancouver has for cocktails.

My boyfriend and I walked in on a Sunday and managed to get sat at the bar seating within an hour of waiting. The restaurant is cozy and there is limited seating so reservations are probably preferred. Since we weren't super hungry, we opted to share a few items and went with staples such as the salmon oshi, bluefin tuna nigiri, and the wagyu udon noodle soup. The bluefin was amazing and melted in my mouth - a close contender considering I was not in Japan. Salmon oshi was standard - I think the sauce on top was a nice change to the usual slices of jalapeño. What really amazed me was the noodle soup. The noodles were hand made and the broth was savoury, deep, and flavourful. We both wanted to slurp every last drop of soup up because it could not be wasted! I also liked the good variety of toppings and would definitely return to have this noodle soup again. If I recall correctly, Kishimoto has always been on the higher end of the price scale but you will definitely receive what you paid for in quality, service, and deliciousness.
