Chicken briyani
Leslie C.

Came here on a Thursday at noon with coworkers. Very spacious but hard to get the servers' attention most of the time. I got the lamb briyani but it was all above my spice level. in case anyone wants to know...   Monday - Dosas on special $8 or $10 depending on type Tuesday - reg Menu Wednesday - Curry Specials with Chipati and Rice Thursday - Biryani specials (first 4 items on that section is $10) Saturday/Sunday Buffet - $18/$20 unlimited Dosa, Idly, and Parantha

Gord K.

Madras Diaries has some great tasting dosa generously stuffed full of the filling your choice. The curries are rich and flavorful and spicy. Service is friendly and welcoming. Monday has dosa and briyanni on special

I tried fried oyster mushrooms they were delicious and went well with all the side garnishing. The black garlic eggplant is something new to try and went with rice and salad. It has fried tofu too which was nicely cooked too. Quantity and portion size is justified for the price. Overall a great Vietnamese restaurant on Kingsway. Will-definitely go back and highly recommend this place!

Unfortunately, the menu doesn't have side dishes, so I ended up ordering the lemongrass vermicelli along with a guava juice instead. The guava juice was a bit of a surprise--not quite the freshly made tropical drink I had imagined. It turned out to be the same bottled guava juice you can easily find at the grocery store, just served in a glass and at restaurant prices. Then my lemongrass vermicelli arrived, and the server warned me to be careful because it was very hot. That definitely caught me off guard! When I think of vermicelli bowls, I picture cool noodles, crisp vegetables, fragrant herbs, and a refreshing meal perfect for a sunny day. This version was served piping hot, making it feel more comforting than refreshing. That said, the dish was still packed with flavour. The fragrant lemongrass aroma filled the bowl, the vegetables added plenty of texture, and the savoury components came together nicely. It just wasn't the light, cooling meal I had originally set my heart on when I walked in, dreaming about mango salad on a warm day.

I've found my new favorite pho place! I love that they offer different sizes for their pho (S, L,…read moreXL). The broth is delightful and soothing, especially on a dreary day. It somehow manages to taste more complex than other pho places I've been to. It's not oily or too salty. Noodles were cooked just right and not too soft. The bean sprouts don't seem to soften up as much in a small bowl. The interior is fairly small but cozy. They offer tea as the default, and the prices are reasonable. Service was quick and efficient, just the way it should be at a casual pho restaurant. Some paid street parking available.

I did ask for the spice level to be mild so not sure if that affected the broth taste. The broth was ok but glad it was not overly salty or oily and a good amount of the thick rice noodle. I'd probably try again but ask for the full spice instead of mild spiciness. My friends had the Shrimp Salad Roll, Salt & Pepper Calamari, Lemongrass Beef & Spring Roll with Vermicelli and Lemongrass Chicken & Pork grilled. They all enjoyed but the grilled lemongrass chicken & pork was the best in taste, value and portion size. Interior is clean and updated. Metered parking out front but free parking on the side streets. Staff were friendly and service was prompt. It opens till 10pm so nice to have another place on Cambie Street for a later evening meal.

The first thing I noticed was how clean and organized the restaurant is. They have a self-serve station stocked with water, utensils, napkins, and takeout containers. This is such a thoughtful touch and makes it so convenient. I ordered the Namaste Fresh Rolls, and they were absolutely incredible. There were fresh, and the peanut sauce was perfect. Honestly, I could have eaten several of them! I also had the Rickshaw Bowl, which was packed with flavour. To drink, I tried their signature coconut shake, and as someone who's a sucker for anything coconut, it did not disappoint. Before leaving, I also picked up a pint of their Vietnamese Coffee ice cream (still in my freezer)! If you're a peanut butter lover, you have to get their dark chocolate peanut butter. It was amazing! I enjoyed last Saturday so much that I came back the next day for dinner. This time I ordered their famous Golden Temple Soup with noodles and organic tofu, along with the Sunrise Fresh Rolls. The soup lived up to the hype. The curry broth was rich, comforting, and full of flavour. The noodles had the perfect texture and the organic tofu was excellent. And once again, their fresh rolls were fantastic! Before I left, I had the chance to chat with the owner, who was incredibly kind and friendly. She shared a little about the business, and it was clear how much care and passion goes into the restaurant. I genuinely wish them continued success.

During my first visit I ordered the monthly special, which was a Burmese burger with mala spiced fries . The Burmese burger featured tea leaf aioli that I could honestly bathe as it was swimmingly delicious. I wish the fries had a little bit more spice, but we a good accompaniment.. After reading some reviews on yelp I came back a second time and ordered what seemed to be a local favorite which were the salted egg yolk chicken wings, which were honestly to die for especially with the chili crisp sauce . New favorite dish alert !!!!! Super crispy , salty , flaky and unique chicken wings . First time I ever tried salted egg anything despite seeing it as an option a few times in the past at Chinese restaurants in San Francisco, as well as in Singapore. I'm grateful that this place put "salted egg "on my radar. I've since had several dreams about those chicken wings and was a little sad two weeks later that the place was remodeling. It was literally my first stop after getting my rental car. I'm glad though that this place is only a temporary closed due to remodeling as I highly recommend this place.

Usually we could eat those dishes in Singapore and Malaysia as street food but we were lucky that we could eat them here in Canada. I recommended reserving a table if you haven't tried more than four guests. When we placed an order, we had to go to the counter, ordered the food and paid. The service was good. Servers were friendly. We could find street parking but I would recommend parking in the residential area and walking to the restaurant.
