This restaurant is actually on my bucket list, I went here 2 X but parking is very busy and both occassions t was rainning o i do not want to walk far and wet. On my third attempt boom parking just in front the entrance of the restaurant. Huge place, showcasing their cultures by its interior designs and decors. The blending of wall's paint is orange and yellow very good in photo background and so instagrammable. I tried 2 appetizer, the kallapon-karella style spongy pancake made from rice-based butter and grated coconut, it has plain taste though but when dip it with the sauce of your main entree it absorbs all the flavors,i tell you every bite is exploding in your mouth, it will make your taste buds crazy and very well satisfied. I got the poori as well, Its a vegan golden fried puffy wheat bread, I ate a lot of this when i was vacationing in Turkey, Its a hot air baloon inspired appetizer, puffy, huge and yet nothing inside but air. Another kind of bread that goes very well with sauces. Main Entry: Shrimp Pepper Masala-in the menu after its name has a mark of 3 red chili...so i know what i am getting...hot and spicy dish.Large prawns peeled and cooked with masala,..I like the it, i love spicy foods so this one is really really good. Pricing is just right, excellent food and friendly service, I should say this place is one of the good Indian restaurant in town, noise level is average, good for group, family and kids. Washroom is clean. Accept cash, debit, and credit. by the way parking is free plus street parking too....but because of so many restaurants here it can be challenging to find one... I recommend this place to all specially to those who love spices and dishes from South India. Another place that 100% I will visit again, 2 thumbs-up.... Kudos...

Manjal is a South Indian restaurant in Burnaby ( Edmonds). For context, South Indian food is mostly about fermented rice and lentils and is one of the healthiest types of food for your gut. We started our order with a cup of Chai and a Filter Coffee. Chai was perfectly made. Coffee was presented very well with so much foam on it. It tasted just like how well it was presented Next, we ordered a Dosa Platter and Uttapam. These things took about 20 mins to prepare but it was all worth the wait. The Dosa Platter was crisp with potato stuffing in it. The chutneys were fresh and flavorful. The highlight of the meal was Sambar(spiced lentil soup). It had a rich color, and ton of flavors emerged out of it. The Uttapam was not too crispy but it was just about fine. It went very well Sambar. Overall, must try. Don't miss out the Filter Coffee and try a dish that serves Sambar.

Manjal is our favorite and go-to place for South Indian food. Nothing beats idli, dosa, vada for brunch! We went here with a friend's recommendation and the food did not disappoint. Manjal has a nice open ambience with south indian music in the background and and the tv showing classical indian dances. Staff is very friendly. As for the food, would highly recommend the podi idli! Pieces of idli fried in ghee and podi chutney. The spices are bang on and makes for a good appetizer. It is constant in our visits here. The idli's are nice and soft and we love the taste of their sambhar. The first time we visited we didn't realise that they have masala (without the onion) and onion masala and had ordered the mysore masala dosa. We don't prefer masala without onion as it isn't as flavorful. Their rava dosa's are super crispy and another must-try! Final highlight is the madras (filter) coffee. 10/10 on the presentation. Comes in a steel cup and saucer with lots of foam on top. We've heard good reviews of their kothu paratha but haven't been able to try since is only available on weekdays :(

    Lamb Kothu Parotta

Manjal South Indian Kitchen is a newish restaurant that opened up along Edmonds Street recently that focuses on South Indian cuisine. When I dropped by for lunch on a weekday in early February, the place was practically dead but there's been a lot of construction going on along Edmonds so that might explain the lack of people. In any case, I decided to order their Lamb Kothu Parotta ($15.99). Never having kothu or parotta before, it sounded kind of interesting. Basically described as a street food item consisting of coarsely chopped up parotta (no, it's not a type of bird)... parotta is a type of layered flatbread (similar to a layered roti). I actually liked this quite a bit. It's served with raita and some type of gravy and the spice level which I picked (medium) wasn't overly spicy. The dish kind of reminded me a bit of stuffing or rice cakes with a thin and somewhat chewy texture to the chopped up parotta. The shredded lamb was okay but I think I would have preferred if it was a bit more chunky in terms of the protein. It's actually pretty addictive and I can see why it's a popular street food item.

The reason I am giving only 2 stars is because the restaurant is absolutely meeting the opposite ends when it comes to the 2 basic criteria - food and service. The food was really good but the service was exactly the opposite - absolute crap. The main problem I had with food was that they filled the entire bowl of biryani with rice and put just 6-7 pieces of chicken on top and voila, that's their chicken biryani (photo attached). Well not only that. Also the lemon Soda with salt I ordered had no lemon in it at all until I mentioned that to the waitress after which some lemon was added in it. I did not even feel like packing the remaining rice without the chicken. And who goes out of pomfret curry at 7:15 PM in the evening? For which we had actually chosen this restaurant. I know they are just an year and a half old but they better get their service on track. The food needs to be as good as the service itself. Just by hiring beautiful but dumb waitresses, they are not doing any justice to their business. They need to hire good people to take care of the service.

I am sooooo happy that we tried Manjal. Hands down the best Indian I've had in some time - you can taste the care that goes in to the food, no pre-packaged sauces here...and the heat!!! Yes! We had Chicken 65 Biryani, Lamb Kola Balls, and the Serrano Pakora. Due to the Vid it's a limited menu right now, which I think is wise as it certainly keeps the quality up. I look forward to going to the restaurant with friends and trying more items. Thank You Manjal!

We were a big group of 12 including infant and toddler and they managed everything beautifully. Another big group of 10+ came in when we were leaving around 9+ pm. The place was not huge but they can do big groups. Reservations recommended. This was my second time trying East African/Indian food. I still didn't know much about it. R and I shared a choma (grilled) platter which had 3 types of meat, choice of carbs and raw vegs. The server recommended Chicken Serena which was grilled chicken with some sauce and herbs. This was my favorite dish. The chicken was tender and flavorful. The other two meats were the beef ribs (pretty good) and Mishkaki (skewer beef - a bit dry and hard). I love the masala potatoes which was the best thing on the platter. The raw vegs looked like coleslaw without any sauce. It was just a dab of sauce on the side. Not enough for the shredded vegs. I also had the masala chai which was very weak and very bland. Skip this tea. R tried the on tap beer - Baadshah Pilsner - a south Asian craft beer produced by Magic Malt Brewing in Langley. Interesting. Good to try for $5. There was also live music. It can get quite loud when they were singing. Nice patio out front and parking on street and in their lot.

Downloaded it, filled in my info to sign up. It didn't work. Tried again - same results. Ordered via Uber Eats. (2)My go-to is Chicken Tikka - no onions. I clicked on the Allergy tab for onions, however when it arrived my Chicken Tikka was COVERED with them!! it said 3 times on the receipt NO Onions /Allergy. This was completely ignored ! Despite scraping them all off and smothering a piece in Raita, my tongue is still tingling and swollen. (3)The Naan Bread was so dry, thin and over cooked it was the consistency of a burnt cracker. I tried soaking it in some water between paper towels and microwaving it, but it was so thin in many places it snapped. I'm used to Naan being thick and soft with some blackened edges. I like to put my chicken inside with Raita and eat it like a pita wrap. Not with this stuff ! (4)Nowhere on the website or Uber app does it say that the Butter Chicken comes with rice. So I order a side of rice for my husband. 3 containers of rice show up. Had I known it was already included (most places will tell you ) I would have saved the 6$. He didn't need 3 containers. (6)The free dish included when you spend 40$ was Papri Chaat . It was something I never heard of, but sounded good. I'm Sure it would have been if the wafers (Papri) wasn't It was completely soggy. (7) I also told them no Chutney as it would go to waste. They sent 3 containers .... The Good- It was quick from order to delivery. The Raita was delicious. Butter Chicken was enjoyed by my Husband. The flavour of the Chicken Tikka once all the onions were scraped off. Had they substituted cabbage for the onions it would've been really good. Thankfully Uber refunded me the 20$ for the Chicken. This wasn't a dislike - it was a safety issue For nearly 70$ this is unacceptable. *See photos

Here's what we ordered and loved: Chilli Chicken - Deep-fried boneless chicken cooked with ginger and green peppers. It's like Chinese sweet and sour chicken but with a delicious spicy kick! Chana Puri - Two HUGE deep-fried wheat breads served with chickpeas, pickle, and salad. The chickpeas were so flavourful, and the puri was light and crispy. This is a must-order! Chicken Tikka Masala - Grilled chicken in a creamy, tomato-based sauce. Perfectly balanced and so comforting. Lamb Korma - Boneless lamb cooked in a rich white cashew nut sauce. The lamb was tender and full of flavour -- we loved the spice balance! Garlic Naan - Soft, perfectly cooked (not burnt!), and great texture. A must-have pairing with any curry. Every dish was so tasty that it was hard to pick a single winner of the night -- but if we had to choose, the Chana Puri and Lamb Korma were our top picks! The menu offers a great mix of classic favourites and unique regional dishes. Everything tasted authentic, fresh, and made with care. Tasty Planet is a small, casual restaurant located in a plaza at 6th Street & 10th Avenue (Highway 1A) -- right on the Burnaby/New Westminster boundary. It's a cozy spot, perfect for casual dining or takeout. We'll definitely be back -- or maybe we'll check out their other location on Fraser Street next time! Food: 5/5 Must Try!
