    Mogo Fries

It's not very often my wife and I get to try out a new restaurant that caters to my gluten allergy. It can be hit and miss, and sometime we default to chains that have one or two options. Today, on a day trip into Vancouver, we found an East African/Indian fusion bistro that was featured in the Find Me GF app. The staff were incredibly committed to catering to my allergy, but the food itself (not to mention the choices) was some of the best, most unique collection of dishes we'd encountered in years! Our appy, Mogo (pronounced mo-ho) fries were made from cassava, fried and lightly dusted with spice, with accompanying tamarind and creamy coconut dipping sauces. Then the mains were a creamed coconut chicken curry dish (Zanzibar Kuku Paka) with Basmati, and Chicken Serena (bbq chicken tenders in a creamy tomato and cilantro sauce), paired with saffron vegetable rice and sriracha coleslaw ... just WOW! If you are in the Burnaby area - whether Celiac or not ... this is an outstanding place to eat. The staff, including the owner and his wife, who designed and cooks the food all from scratch I(ncluding the sauces) gave such a friendly vibe to our time. In the words of the Food Network show ... You Gotta Eat Here!!!

East African and Indian Fusion Family owned business, husband and wife hands on and working during my visit, both of them very friendly and more than welcome to share informations to a yelper like me. Medium size restaurant approximately can accomodate less than 40 heads. Contemporary decors with matching hard wood flooring, Neat place very relaxing ambience. A Gem along 6th avenue. EATS: Appy Platter: I decided to get this appetizer so I can try most of the appez, It has 1 samosa( option between chicken, beef, and veggies) i got the beef, 2 kababs a fried meat balls very rich in flavor and it looks like a ball of chocolate another piece of food that is very instagrammable, and the mogo or nylon, i loved mogo its a deed fried yuca that goes very well with the sauces ,tamarind chutney and I believed the other one is cilantro chutney, awesome ...really... very good... Main Entree: I ordered the Beef Mishkaki- 3 tender beef skewers marinated with a fusion of East African and Indian spices, comes with cabbage salad and saffron rice, amazing dish, the blending of flavors is indeed unremarkable. The sauce provided from the appez is good with the meat and the rice as well. Street free parking, they have wifi, there is large TV monitor by the wall, theres music playing as well. Observes covid-19 precautions and protocol, one of those places that you need to register online for your name and phone number...Kudos!! Pricing: Reasonable/Affordable Good for group, family and kids friendly Accept cash/debit and credit I recommend this place to all, one of the best dishes in town on its category. plus they serve alcoholic beverages. 100% i will be visiting again

Food is excellent quality prepared by the owners themselves. Full of flavours and great value for $ with portions. Grill platter is my go to. Beautiful decor. Restaurant size is a bit small. Can be understaffed during busy times. Highly recommend this restaurant.

great service and greay food! the lady kindly explained all the recommended dishes to us. We had the chicken mogo, it was very creamy and chicken was tender. The mister there was very nice too. :) visit this place if you want to try fusion of african indian

The fufu with peanut soup was a vegetarian dish and besides having a nice aroma, the taste was just as top tier. The pounded yam with egusi was my favorite as you really can't beat how fresh and delicious this was. The pieces of goat and beef along with chilis, onions, peppers and I believe the other bits were either squash or pumpkin was amazing. The jollef rice could have been a little less wet, but I'm not an expert in this field. I still enjoy it, but slightly drier would have been my preference. The honey jerk chicken was juicy and tender. It was full of flavor and the sweetness balanced the savory well. Everything was made fresh and even though it was for a take out order, everyone loved it.

This was our first time trying fufu and we were given a bowl of warm water to wash our hands and no utensils. My friend and I got to learn how to eat fufu and we really enjoyed it! The soup was very flavorful and spicy and paired well with the fufu. It was very filling so we had leftovers (I think this meal can be shared between 3-4 people)! I am definitely going to try their other soups.

The building is quite new and modern, and so is this place. Some nice decorations such as figurines and tapestries on the wall. Staff were very friendly and helpful. No complaints. There was an older gentleman who chatted with us a bit and answered our questions. Pretty sure he was the head chef/owner. Buddy and I were unsure what to have, so the waiter recommended the chef's platter (Mchaguzi wa Chef). This platter includes samaki bites (fried tilapia), kuku choma (BBQ marinated chicken), kebabs (minced lamb), and mishkaki (skewers of beef). Served with a pile of rice underneath and a pile of salad. There was also some naan and a bowl of spinach machica (mashed spinach cooked in curry sauce). There was also a plate with small containers of yogurt, tamarind sauce, and shredded coconut. Rather interesting combo. Everything was very tasty, though my buddy was convinced the deep fried tilapia was the frozen supermarket variety. No idea if this is true. The other thing that was special here is they sold Tusker beer which is from Kenya. Never seen it anywhere before, so it was definitely interesting to try. The bottles are 500mL too. Food was definitely on the pricer side, but my buddy and I did leave satisfied. Not sure if I'd eat here regularly, but I wouldn't mind coming back. The food was delicious.

Have you ever had Ethiopian food before?…read more Nope, neither have I. I was hanging out with a friend from across town & I wanted to try dinner at another restaurant further up on Commercial Dr. So we decided on drinks here first at Harambe Ethiopian Restaurant, while we waited for our standby reservation to come through at the other restaurant. My friend had been here before & highly recommended we come back again to eat. I got to try Ethiopian Honey Wine for the first time. It was refreshingly delicious. Sat at the bar & chilled. Saw various dishes coming out of the kitchen & the look & smell were causing my stomach to growl. Got to meet the owner Daniel - a very nice gentleman. He has been running this restaurant now for over 25 years. He expressed that times are hard, as noted by all the restaurant closures all over Metro Vancouver. But he's hanging in there so if you want to try Ethiopian food - consider Harembe & support local. Look out for more food pictures sometime in the later part Spring when I return.

Eating with our hands was a neat experience to enjoy the food the traditional way. The server told me to mix all the ingredients together but I wanted to taste each item first. Perhaps mixing it all would have been better as there were a couple items I found their taste to be a bit strong on their own. Personally I also found it on the oily side. The injera was great at soaking it all up but I was unable to finish the injera that was served at the bottom of all the ingredients at the end, with all the oil that was there. Overall it was a great experience and if I were to return, I would skip the combo and order a dish I liked.
