First time at this place and we had the Dine Out Vancouver menu and our experienced was very satisfying. The place was neat and staff were very welcoming and accommodating. The foods we've had were all very good with juicy, moist and flavourful chicken. The Tandoori Chicken and Tikka were surprisingly very good. The Garlic Naan is so far the best Naan Bread we've ever had. It's just so fluffy, gooey and the garlic butter flavour was so good. And OMG, their Cheesecake is heaven! GM Restaurant is the best restaurant in Maple Ridge for Indian cuisine. I might even argue that it is easily the best spot in the lower mainland. We were greeted by an enthusiastic hostess who was eager to get us checked in and seated. She was friendly, knowledgeable and clearly enjoys working at GM. She checked in often and delivered us some amazing eats. Tonight we dined on vegetable pakoras (a must order item) and the Tour of India (Vegetarian) platter. We also enjoyed a delicious and welcoming pot of chai tea. The Tour of India (Vegetarian) features alu gobi, mutter paneer, lentil daal, rice pilau, mint chutney, pickled carrots, raita and served with a piece of naan bread. Ordered it medium-hot which was the perfect balance of flavourful but with a spicy kick. I would easily order this platter to share again as it was a nice sample of a variety of dishes and was easy to share with another person. I am never disappointed when I dine in or pick up from GM as this restaurant serves quality food for an affordable price. This is by far one of my favourite restaurants in Maple Ridge. Incredible place. My husband and I ended up going to this restaurant on a fluke based on reviews for our wedding anniversary and it was a perfect choice. Between the amount of options you can have , to the warm and quick service there was very little we could complain about. The food was flavourful with generous portions and the drinks were to die for . Definitely recommend the 30th anniversary yuzu cocktail . The staff were approachable and kind and the best thing had to be the incredible cheesecakes. First of all there is so much variety. I had the mango/ pineapple and my husband had a lemon one. I wish I could given a higher rating because the naan and butter chicken sauce were delicious, but the problem is I ordered the LAMB option of butter chicken (and paid an extra $1 for it!) -- didn't have the time to call in about it but certainly would've liked it! Also have to say, spice level 4 (out of 10) is really not spicy at all. The whole bill came to $28.88 with tip. Finally got to try this place out after hearing extensively about how great it is. Our party arrived at around 8:30 pm last Saturday night and we were seated promptly with a smile. We started the meal off with a round of Kingfisher beers, which were light and complemented the heavy spices and flavours that would come later. Between the four of us, we had the Kashimiri (with lamb and chicken), Tandoori Chicken plate, and shared basmati rice and garlic naan as sides. Portion sizes here are very generous and I was shocked at how much food came with my Tandoori. The plate was covered with a huge mound of house salad, rice pilau, and three meaty pieces of bone-in chicken. The salad was a lightly dressed combo of red cabbage, lettuce, cucumber, and tomatoes. Pretty standard but it definitely helped cut through the indulgent flavours of our other dishes. I really like the rice pilau here - there are lots of nuts and raisins mixed into the basmati rice to provide contrasting textures. No complaints about the chicken either as it was perfectly tender. My friends all got the Kashimiri and loved it. It's a milder curry sauce with dried fruit, nuts, and raisins but it packs a lot of flavour. If I had to choose, I'd get the lamb as a protein with this sauce over the chicken. It's slightly more fatty and pairs better with the sauce, especially with a side of fresh garlic naan. Service here is super attentive, though our waiter did let us know that we'd just missed the dinner rush. Despite this only being my first visit, I understand why GM is a cornerstone for Indian dining in the Maple Ridge area. Warm service in a family owned establishment, great flavours, and reasonable prices are a winning combination and I hope they continue to do well. I spotted vegetable pakoras on another table and a huge cheesecake selection that looked great, so I'll definitely be back. read more

Named after the initials of their two sons born around the time the restaurant opened, GM restaurant is a rather busy Indian restaurant with friendly staff. Sharing-for-two-persons portions give this place rather good value. Taste isn't magically "wow" but it's good, comes out fresh and hot and in reasonable time despite the busy dinner hour. Curry orders do NOT automatically come with rice or naan! They do slip in a warning about the size of your order if they suspect you're close to over-ordering for your party size, and I thought that was nice. Nothing heavy handed, just an assurance of the portion size being more than enough. Paneer Pakoras ($11) a unique cheese coated with Indian spices, then fried and served with tamarind sauce as well as raita -Classed as an appetizer but it could easily be a light to medium meal on its own because of the solid chunks of cheese. -Rather bland taste, but you would expect that if you already know about paneer. -Overall it tastes sort of like tofu, but without the bitterness, and with a different texture. Sweet Crispy Cauliflower ($11) a unique pakora consisting of cauliflower fritters mixed with spices, fried, then toasted and coated with honey. Served with tamarind sauce and raita. -Not as crispy as I hoped, but the honey glazing is a rather good combination with the deep fried exterior. Lamb Rogan Josh ($14 +$1 surcharge for lamb; normally your choice of chicken or beef) -Nothing wrong here. Tasty sauce, decent amount of large cubes of lamb. -If you like lamb, you might want to check in before ordering the lamb. I didn't find it to have a strong gamey flavour. Some people look for that, others seek to avoid it. So if it matters to you one way or another, check in first. Vegetable Kashmiri ($12.50) seasonal mixed vegetables and fruit cooked with nuts and raisins in a lightly spiced curry sauce -Pretty interesting and chunky curry. Hard to tell from a photo but it included carrots, potato, and pineapple. -Definitely not skimpy on the sauce but this isn't one of those curries where the chunks are swimming in soup, if that's the type of curry you're hoping for. -The nuts and fruit make for an interesting flavour. Try to have some with every bite. Homemade Mulligatawny Soup ($8) -Deliciously spiced soup made hearty with a good chunk of potato. -Price a bit steep for the portion -- but it's tasty. Made in house Cheesecake -I really thought they blew it with the presentation here, sadly. -The cheesecake itself is really decent. And you can taste a difference between the factory stuff you find in supermarkets, especially in the texture of the cheesecake and the flavour of the crust. -I asked for whatever they had that was interesting and weird and to just bring out a surprise, but I guess they ran out of those two categories and gave us strawberry. -Way too much sauce on this one which, sadly, left an unappetizing muck on the plat as you eat it. Token sauce for colour would have been fine, though some of it might have been unavoidable from the sugary-sweet strawberry slices they used. Not sure if that part was house-cooked or out of a can. Naan -Looked fresh and tender. Really nicely done. -Not the fake supermarket stuff heated up, nor did it look like stuff that had been sitting around a bit too long from earlier in the day. Clearly superior to a lot of Indian restaurants that don't care too much about this staple. -My good friend treated me for my birthday and sneakily paid the bill so I didn't get to see the full details, such as the portions of naan we ordered. I suspect the picture shows two orders. Plain Rice ($5) -Portion good enough for two. -Paired with a curry, you're looking at around $20-ish dollars, but you've got a decently sized meal for two persons. $10-12 for dinner is good value these days. Sadly it's also in Maple Ridge. Overall, good food plus good value plus good service. I guess it's top marks. read more

We had heard about the place for many years so I finally tried it. All in all it was ok but I do not understand the raves. You do get a fair amount of food for the price. But for me, we normally order from Bombay Sweets in Poco and they are much better. The Food was definitely good but certainly not that memorable. First off on the web order form somewhere I read single veg samosas were $1.75 ( much more expensive than Bombay Sweets) and they included a sauce but on the order form they were $1.85 and then you had to order the sauce separately. They were $1 and I ordered one but got charged for 2 and only received one. The samosa were very doughy as well did nit enjoy it. And it only seemed to have mashed potato in it. We ordered some combo dinners and it was impossible to tell the difference between the aloo gobi and the vegetable vindaloo they tasted the same. Everything just sort of tasted the same. The roti was nice and were the papadums The butter chciken was deemed good. We had a ton left over to eat up but I would go back to Bombay sweets next time. read more

Okay, this place does not scream atmosphere from the outside. Located right along the highway, the vehicle noise can at times be a distraction. The interior is more inviting than other Indian restaurants I have been to. I wish more Indian restaurants would play up the distinct atmosphere or at least have a professional do it. The food can be so much more enjoyable if it's also a visual experience. The aroma made up for the outdated interior. The wonderful smells of jasmine incense. The Owner has been here 19 years and they have many critic review accolades on a wall near the entrance. The staff here are simply amazing and personable. I remember one thing that the owner said to me when delivering my Chai Tea. I said "thank you" he replied, "You deserve it." They make you feel at home and I could see us getting to know them at a bit more personable level. We both ordered the Thali Meat Platter. I was asked prior to my meal -What heat scale would you like -1 to 10? 1 being not heat. I asked for an 9 since I believe this food has to come spicy, its just part of the flavour. Hollie- not so adventurous, she took a 7, but still pretty hot. It came quite quickly, but I have to say we were one of three other customers. The entree came in a large metal bowl segmented into several parts (ala cantine style) A little messy, but points for being original. The taste was divine. Very flavourful. The lamb was so tender. The entire combination worked very well together. The Naan bread was also wonderfully prepared. Didn't have time to stay for desert, but I promised to be back for a more complete meal. I'll give the 4 I got 2 appetizers (honey coated cauliflower & potato patties - forgive me I forgot the name-) they we great. Both had distinctive flavours amazing textures. DEEP FRIED CAULIFLOWER crunchy with honey and other spices I'd say was way better than what you'd get at like a BROWNS or cactus club in flavour, texture and portion. Came with delicious dips The POTATO PATTY was like a hashbrown, but beautifully fried - basically take the insides of the best samosa you've had and make it a hashbrown. They nailed it. And it paired well with the snack size chickpea curry and yogurt that came with it. Good texture a real richness and flavour you could tell these dishes were made super fresh, made to order and in my opinion outshined the main course For the main we kept it simple with BUTTER CHICKEN KASHMIR CHICKEN with the GM RICE, I enjoyed both, the butter chicken creamy and good richness, Kashmir was spiced well had good richness to the sauce Both dishes were cooked correctly but their wasn't any flare to them that was shown in the appetizers. The flavours of the main dishes didn't take my mind away from the amazing appetizers we just had. Seemed maybe it lacked a spice component. The RICE was really bland with peas and an over cooked onion, it was suggested by the serve over plain rice. A dollar so no big deal we went with it but next time we'll just get the Jasmin white rice Great service, I'd say the place could use an update even just to cloth table cloths instead of cheap sticky plastic but good atmosphere, some of the workers at the front seemed very overwhelmed so we didn't get a great greeting, but good people nonetheless I'm always thankful Heads up there's not great parking either, I might go again but I'm not running back read more

I've ordered two take out dinners for myself here. Both were delicious and enough for two days. I also ordered a piece of their cheesecake each time and that lasted two to three days. The menu describes 8 - 10 meal combos, including meat and vegetarian. I've ordered both meat and the vegetarian included toasted cashews which were such a delicious surprise in my vegetable dish. I make an excellent cheesecake NYC style. Theirs is almost as good (mine is a little lighter). Don't skip ordering it. It's expensive and worth every single cent. And the box they use is biodegradable. The Raita comes in a single use plastic container and so bring a small re-usable container for your raita if you want to follow the three R's. And one last thing. I ordered medium the first time and it was mild. Next time I ordered 8/10 for heat and it was quite pleasant. Not too hot, just a bit of a bite. read more

Convenient location on Lougheed for hungry diners just before heading home to Vancouver. Perfect because I'm on an Indian food kick! Vegetable Samosas - nothing special about the samosas. Would've liked more spice actually. But the sweetish chickpea sauce that comes with the samosas is sooooo good! Beef Tikka Masala - probably my favourite curry of the meal. Flavourful. A nice zing in the spices. Beef was a tad too tough for my liking. Shrimp Curry - Again, the curry was great. Shrimps are plentiful, but really really tiny though. Butter Chicken - strong cumin flavour in the curry. I didn't detect any tomatoes, which is what I thought butter chicken contains?! Not as much zing as the other two, but still delightful. Chicken was big chunks of quality white meat, but again cooked too tough. Note there is a choice of mild, medium, and hot for spicy levels. The hot is actually quite hot, but manageable for me. Naan and rice are ordered separately - pretty standard stuff there. This was a feast for 3 people with lots of leftovers! Reasonable prices for huge portions that do not skimp on spices. I give this place 4 stars because no matter how long it takes the food it always tasty. GM was for a long time the only Indian restaurant in Maple Ridge. I had my first taste of flavor in the form of chana masala and veggie samosa. The owner always seems to recognize me and the food is nommy. There is limited parking so don't park anywhere you can get towed because you will be in for a loooong wait. Last time I went it took about 45 minutes for my food to arrive. They have amazing veg Indian recipes and are always fresh tasting. I recommend the following: Pre gorging snacks: Pakoras, I would skip the Samosas they are fairly large. Although thinking about it I would order six to take home. Vegetarian noms: Baby eggplant (I think it is Bhartha) Aloo Mutter (potatoes and peas in a creamy curry sauce) Bombay Curry (creamy curry sauce with pakoras in it ... how can you go wrong with cream AND deep fried potatoes?) OK veg food is Aloo Gobi (potatoes and cauliflower) Lentil Dhal (a thick lentil soup) The rice portions are large so you can share one with three people. I would get roti over naan, the roti they have are very soft so I prefer them. I have been dining here for years and I have almost never been disappointed. Definitely a family operation. The owners are wonderful and I personally think their Veggie Biryani and Beef Vindalu are out of this world! Service is always a little slower than I would prefer but the food is worth the wait. Went to GM for the first time tonight and I was very impressed! Their shrimp curry was foodgasm inducing! So flavourful! They had 10 different flavours of cheesecake so it was very hard to choose but we are bringing a piece of lemon, and white chocolate banana home with us for later. My husband had their buttered chicken and it was passable, but not top of our list. The service though was really great! Our server and the young lady behind the counter were both very helpful, and friendly. We would definitely eat at GM again! I had a very unfortunate experience tonight where I ordered a meal thru skip the dishes as we love this restaurant and have ordered many times before. Unfortunately my food was not delivered even though skip the dishes sent two separate couriers to pick up my order. Yes my address was clear and correct! My husband asked the restaurant to explain the situation and the manager was very apologetic and offered to personally deliver my order. He was super nice and when he arrived he even included some complimentary items for me to make up for the mistake that was not really on his end. For an Indian Restaurant in Maple Ridge, and for someone like myself who prides on Indian Food being their favorite and dining in at least 13 different ones all over the lower mainland, I'd have to say this is my 3rd favorite, only because the Butter chicken (being my favorite dish) just needs a touch more zest, but all of the other curries on the menu( I tried Tika Misala and Chicken Vindaloo...amazing) are filling.
