    Vegetarian thali
    Abhinav J.

Vegetarian thali at Saffron tasted really good. Here are the ratings of the items: It had Paneer makhani 5/5, kheer 4/5, dal makhani 5/5, veg pakora 5/5. mix veg 3/5 and Naan 4/5. I found the Naan to be very chewy, probably because of a lot of maida but the taste was still good. I asked to replace it with roti but they denied. Overall the experience was good and the taste was really nice. This thali could even be enough for 2 people if they are not very hungry. The service and ambience was good as well.

We walked-in for a buffet. Limited items and the food was good. The service for roti was quick and the waiter was friendly. Simple, quiet and chic restaurant. Recommend to try if u in that area for quick food service.the desserts kheer, mango custard and gulab jamun were a hit.

Voted Best Indian Restaurant in Burnaby for the past 15 years. Saffron Indian Cuisine is a must try if you're craving Indian food. It's family owned and very spacious inside. The menu consists of a wide assortment of chicken, lamb, seafood, paneer, tandoori, vegetarian dishes & more. We tried the following: Mixed Grill $29.95 Pani Poori $11.95 Tikka Masala Lamb $22.95 Saffron Thali $23.95 Mutter Paneer $18.95 Mango lassi $7.95 Rose water & lemon fizz $7 Virgin mojito $8 The mixed grill of tandoori meats was delicious !! It was my fave dish. Try the Saffron Thali if you want to try 3 curries in one dish (lamb & butter chicken were yummy). All the dishes were quite flavourful. The drinks were even pretty good! The rose water was actually surprisingly tasty & best I've tried at restaurants. I would come back!

Went here for bite of Burnaby it is a pretty solid deal. $28 for vegetarian and $32 for non vegetarian. The butter chicken was moist not dry, the Malia kofta's sauce was better than the butter chicken sauce. The beef samosa was not dry and stuffed properly. I enjoyed the paneer pakora with their yoghurt sauce. The deal came with dessert which is a mango custard Service was great ambiance was nice.

I got the saffron thali that consists of a bit of everything. For $23.95, you can get the naan, butter chicken, lamb curry, chicken tikka and your own choice of dessert. This is my first time trying out Indian cuisine and everything is so delicious. It's very flavorful and the taste was not overwhelming. I think the saffron thali is a great combo for anyone who wants to try indian food. The portion was kind of big for me, so I got some food to go. The rice pudding is good too. It's sweet and thinner in consistency. Overall, it's a good experience and I'm looking forward to trying more dishes.

My work orders from here all the time which was the first time I tried it and was instantly hooked! Their beef curry and butter chicken is so tasty. They always have a special lunch menu where you can order 3 different dishes and comes with rice pilaf and naan! The samosas and pakoras are on the small size but still scrumptious.

Absolutely love the thali here, they have good variety and quantity. I've had the thali 3 times now, first 2 was awesome. This picture is from the third where the spice was a bit lacking but I still enjoyed it with chillies and a onions on the side. Worth letting them know spice level next time! Service was good and quick. This place is also a vibe, the decor is nice!

Visiting for work for the first time with no car I ordered Uber eats and settled on Saffron. I would not dine here again. Not sure of the ambience but as soon as I finished eating, my tummy was not a happy camper and my restroom got much use. I ordered the below. None of the food had spice to taste, the butter chicken was the only reason for the two stars, the shrimp tasted frozen precooked, the garlic naan missed the mark completely and the lamb was gross and tasted like beef vs lamb. I would not recommend. Butter Prawns (with rice or naan) CA$23.95 Choice of Temparature Medium to Hot CA$0.00 Choice of Side Garlic Naan CA$1.00 1 Butter Chicken (with rice or naan) CA$20.95 Choice of Temparature Medium to Hot CA$0.00 Choice of Side Rice CA$0.00 1 Vegetable Samosas CA$8.95 1 Tandoori Lamb Chops

We may have found our favorite spot for Indian food nearby! I came with 3 others for Friday dinner at 7 pm and the restaurant was fairly empty. We were seated immediately. We each picked a curry and shared it family style. All of them were fantastic, though the portions were a bit on the smaller side. We finished all of the curries and didn't have any leftovers. We tried: Yellow daal thurka ($16.95) Fish curry ($19.95) Butter prawns ($19.95) Malai kofta ($17.95) Each curry includes your choice of naan or rice. We also ordered two additional roti for $2.50 each. Service was good here as well. Food came out soon after we ordered, and we never had trouble getting our server's attention when we needed something.

The not so hidden gem! Right at the forefront of Kingsway, I've always driven past Saffron but never thought to give it a try. After walking by one night I decided to give it a try and boy was I surprised. The ambiance is cozy and semi dim. The butter which was very delicious and portioned reasonably. Service was fast and friendly. This gem is worth giving a try!

Saffron I wasn't a big fan of Indian cuisine until a couple of friends recommended this place. I had the mild butter chicken with naan. The others ordered different dishes - saffron Thali, chilli beef, tandoori chicken, vegetarian Thali, & chicken biryani. The best valued menu items were the dinner combo Thali dishes! There are vegetarian and vegan options plus mild, medium, or hot spicy. One diner was sweating from the spicy food. Overall portions were small as there were a couple of still hungry mouths to feed. The decor is nice along with great service. Our server admitted to serving the wrong person & quickly made another dish. They're located just west of Kingsway & Willingdon. There's metered parking nearby. They're open for lunch and dinner.

My first time coming back since "post covid". No more buffets. Not sad, I didn't know what to expect while walking through the door with a bottle of hand sanitiser and baby wipes. Came in for lunch and it did not disappoint. They have lunch sets now. Service was prompt, everything was immaculately clean. Server was attentive with service and bringing things just when I need them. It was like fine dining that day. On to the food. I feel their quality and flavours has gone up. The tossed salad was simple, cold and crunchy with a beautiful mint sauce. I had butter chicken, and a curry lamb as part of my set. Large chunks of protein in both. Tandaori chicken was a bit dry... actually all the proteins were dry, but the flavours were wonderful. I'm not versed with the proper Indian curries, but the lentils and dahls was soft and beautifully cooked. Naan was fresh ghee'ed to perfection. That one lunch set was generous. I had a hefty takeout box brimming to go.

So not what I was looking for and I wasn't too fond of whatever was mixed in to make the sausages. The texture is not that of regular sausage meat. Granted most things here are vegetarian the fact they had lamb was great. It tasted good just not my thing. So give it a try I liked the mint chutney (had to ask them what it was that was served with it) And some sort of mango drink (I'm sure it's not just mango. It was thick like yogurt but solid mango taste. Really good. And good with the spicy prawns. The young new server was probably the most polite girl I've ever met. Tipped her personally. I made reservations for us for 4pm, so as to take advantage of their Happy Hour. We went earlier today (a Wednesday) and the place was empty at 4pm. I think it fills up later, for dinner. (I still advise making reservations as you never really know if it's going to be busy). Right off the bat, we were blown away by the interior. It is gorgeous! Small, but gorgeous. The murals, the chandeliers, the bar....and omg, the bathrooms. If you visit, you MUST check out the bathrooms. They have the most fabulous sinks I have ever seen. They didn't have a large selection of HH offerings, unfortunately, but what they did have was amazingly good. My friends who were extremely knowledgeable on Indian cuisine ordered for us, and we shared 3 different small plates (tandoori vegetable momos, cochin cauliflower bites, and some sort of delicious fried onions), and 2 desserts (soan paid malai khwaab, and foxtail millet pudding). And just...wow, everything was SO SO good. The three appetizers were so flavorful and the desserts, unlike anything I've ever had before and simply delicious. We also had drinks (but, of course!). One friend had a mango lassi which she loved, one friend had a high ball which she loved, and I had a mango mojito which I loved. (See a pattern? lol). All was great. Our server, Leesa (not sure of spelling) was so incredibly personable and lovely, and a gentleman I gather is the owner came by twice to make sure everything was okay. We felt like VIPs, with all the care and attention we got. Seriously, the folks here could not be nicer. I'm already planning on bringing my two daughters here. I know they'll love this place. Heck, anyone would love this place. My friends and I all plan on returning. Great great place!

We came around 4pm and had a couple of drinks from the regular menu plus the Kerala pepper chicken the momos and the veggie fritters. Again, the food is very good and the prices were reasonable. I will have to come back late night to see if the happy hour issue is rectified at that time as I see the menu is still the exact same as before. ********* Came here after hearing about the recent celebrity visit. First of all, the food is very good the portions are also decent and the prices are reasonable. I would have liked to have come back here for the lunch special as it's walking distance for me, but my visit left a bad taste in my mouth, which I will detail below. The dishes are inventive. There are the usual suspects, but also some that aren't often see at most Indian restaurants in Metro Van. The staff is also very attentive and friendly. The cocktails are pricey, but interesting. The decor is trendy. The bathrooms have an interesting sink feature that I have not seen before. If you're into social media, there's definitely some photo opportunities here. The service is a bit weird as there isn't really a dedicated server for the table. So, basically, we had all sorts of different people taking our drink and food orders, bringing us food, refilling our water and checking in on us. On the plus, it means that you are checked on a lot. On the minus, it is a bit inconsistent because there isn't one single person who knows what is going on with the table, but more a revolving door. For instance, one staff member came and took our drink order, however the wrong drink ended up being made and brought to me by the bartender, even though the drinks had been extensively discussed with the original server. So there's definitely communication issues. My biggest gripe with this restaurant is that we were denied ordering from the happy hour menu by the manager. I did not want to argue about it at the time as the bartender was told in front of us to deny us the happy hour menu, from which we wanted to order some cocktails. At this point, we had already ordered several menu items (in fact so many that the server had advised us we had more than enough food and that we did not need to order an additional dish we were considering) plus full priced cocktails. So it's not like they weren't making money off our table. The reason we were given, which I believe was told to the bartender (to be clear, I do not believe the bartender was at fault, but simply the messenger in this situation), was that the happy hour was only a summer thing. Again, we visually saw the manager instruct the bartender to tell us these things -- they were literally standing in front of our table, less than 5 feet away. This was not only unprofessional, but I found it incredibly dishonest. It was mid-December when we were at the restaurant, 3.5 months after summer had ended. The happy hour menu is literally the first page in the menu book. If a restaurant doesn't want to honour their own happy hour menu, it costs very little to simply reprint the happy hour menu, remove that page completely, or cross it out, if they really want to be cheap. At minimum, they should have honoured the menu for patrons that they gave it to and then rectified the situation for future. For this reason, I cannot recommend this establishment even though the food was very good and I would have otherwise come back and supported this small business.
