Visited the saffron Indian restaurant with some friends for the buffet. The staff was very friendly and helpful. There was good service. The food was good, but there wasn't a huge selection, but I think this is typical for an average Indian buffet unless you go to a very high-end place so the food was good for the price paid. The price was reasonable. I went with a large group and everyone was having the buffet so I just decided to do that too but next time I would probably just order what I want off the menu. I revisited saffron Indian cuisine after a very long time as it's one of the few Indian restaurants in Burnaby area. It was not crowded for a Saturday evening surprisingly. We were in at dinner time. We ordered malai kofta on the high spicy end. In taste it was good the curry was creamy and thick. The kofta balls also soft and flavourful. Only complaint they had less kofta balls as compared to amount of curry. Aloo paratha was spicy and had less stuffing, a bit under cooked too. Garlic naan was nice hot and crispy. Ambience is okay and staff service is good. Overall an okay experience there. read more

Vegetarian thali at Saffron tasted really good. Here are the ratings of the items: It had Paneer makhani 5/5, kheer 4/5, dal makhani 5/5, veg pakora 5/5. mix veg 3/5 and Naan 4/5. I found the Naan to be very chewy, probably because of a lot of maida but the taste was still good. I asked to replace it with roti but they denied. Overall the experience was good and the taste was really nice. This thali could even be enough for 2 people if they are not very hungry. The service and ambience was good as well. read more

Went here for bite of Burnaby it is a pretty solid deal. $28 for vegetarian and $32 for non vegetarian. The butter chicken was moist not dry, the Malia kofta's sauce was better than the butter chicken sauce. The beef samosa was not dry and stuffed properly. I got the saffron thali that consists of a bit of everything. For $23.95, you can get the naan, butter chicken, lamb curry, chicken tikka and your own choice of dessert. This is my first time trying out Indian cuisine and everything is so delicious. It's very flavorful and the taste was not overwhelming. I think the saffron thali is a great combo for anyone who wants to try indian food. The portion was kind of big for me, so I got some food to go. The rice pudding is good too. Visiting for work for the first time with no car I ordered Uber eats and settled on Saffron. I would not dine here again. Not sure of the ambience but as soon as I finished eating, my tummy was not a happy camper and my restroom got much use. I ordered the below. None of the food had spice to taste, the butter chicken was the only reason for the two stars, the shrimp tasted frozen precooked, the garlic naan missed the mark completely and the lamb was gross and tasted like beef vs lamb. We may have found our favorite spot for Indian food nearby! I came with 3 others for Friday dinner at 7 pm and the restaurant was fairly empty. We were seated immediately. We each picked a curry and shared it family style. All of them were fantastic, though the portions were a bit on the smaller side. We finished all of the curries and didn't have any leftovers. The others ordered different dishes - saffron Thali, chilli beef, tandoori chicken, vegetarian Thali, & chicken biryani. The best valued menu items were the dinner combo Thali dishes! There are vegetarian and vegan options plus mild, medium, or hot spicy. One diner was sweating from the spicy food. Overall portions were small as there were a couple of still hungry mouths to feed. My first time coming back since "post covid". No more buffets. Not sad, I didn't know what to expect while walking through the door with a bottle of hand sanitiser and baby wipes. Came in for lunch and it did not disappoint. They have lunch sets now. Service was prompt, everything was immaculately clean. Server was attentive with service and bringing things just when I need them. It was like fine dining that day. On to the food. I feel their quality and flavours has gone up. The tossed salad was simple, cold and crunchy with a beautiful mint sauce. I had butter chicken, and a curry lamb as part of my set. Large chunks of protein in both. Tandaori chicken was a bit dry... actually all the proteins were dry, but the flavours were wonderful. They have an expansive all-vegan menu that lured us in to try. We weren't disappointed. We ordered four items from the vegan menu for a pick-up order -- it was ready waiting when I came to pick it up 30 minutes later, as they said it would be. Each dish comes with a choice of basmati rice or bread -- we got rice with two of them (huge portions) and 2 rotis (the naans aren't vegan). And we asked for everything "hot", which came appropriately spicy but nothing overboard. -Aloo gobi. Nicely cooked, with perfectly textured potatoes. This was more potato than cauliflower, so that's my only complaint with this dish. Very tasty overall. 4/5 -Baingan bharta. This was one of two highlights for me. Perfectly textured, lightly smoky, with tons of flavour complexity. Superb. 5/5 -Bhindi masala. This was the other highlight dish for me. It looks similar to many bhindi dishes, but there's a little something extra spice-wise that makes this a wonderfully flavour, albeit salty, dish. A little oily, but overall, we loved this. 4.5/5 -Aloo palak. My wife usually isn't a huge fan of Indian spinach dishes, but this one she (and I) really enjoyed. Wonderfully spiced with various herbs, plenty of potatoes, and nicely creamy. Excellent 4/5 Each dish was $17 plus tax, a little pricy, but they offer 10% off for take-out orders. YUM! We ordered Saffron for delivery and I'm still here dreaming about their menu items. On the list was Chicken Tikka, Garlic Naan, Mixed Vegetable Korma, and Vegetable Pakora as an appetizer. When it was delivery everything came in two bags and I thought that we'd definitely over-ordered. This meal lasted for two dinners, it was a lot for two people. Besides quantity, the food was so tasty. The Vegetable Pakora was crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. They had to be reheated to enjoy the next day, and the toaster oven worked it's magic to bring back the crisp. One of my go-tos is Vegetable Korma, and this one was creamy with veggies mixed into a thick sauce. I was a happy camper with the Garlic Naan. The Chicken Tikka smelled so good, and had charred edges only adding to the flavour it exuded. read more

Wow. If this not 5-star, then Vancouver must have some truly extraordinary Indian places. Anything better than this and I think my mind would be blown. Lunch buffet is an incomprehensible value. Butter chicken: best ever. Paneer in orange sauce: best ever. Naan: tops. Tandoori chicken: I'm not usually a fan but this was just amazing (still juicy - not dried out - and full of amazing flavor). Lots of veg options too. Desserts were the only place that could take small improvement: Rice pudding needed some spice (cinnamon, pepper), and the galub balls were served cold. Pretty quiet inside too, other than some background music. There's supposedly a buffet option but I only a few closed food tray things. Maybe I showed up too late in the evening. Staff were friendly. Buddy and I ordered 2 different curries. Both were quite delicious. Nice large chunks of meat. Portions could be a wee bit bigger but it wasn't bad. Both the naan and rice tasted fine. The saffron thali is a complete package, including veg pulao, creamy dal makhani, butter chicken and lamb curry paired with the soft naan that melts in your mouth leaving you completely satisfied! As we all love to end our meals with something sweet, the thali comes with a sweet of choice, either gulab jamun or the kheer! The best thing I've discovered along with this meal was combing Gulab jamun with the kheer, the combination is a match made in heaven. There's another item on the menu called double down, where the Gulab jamun is soaked in the creamy kheer, with a juicy core. You cannot go wrong with Butter Chicken!! We had the lunch buffet. The food is delicious. A little on the scarce side. They need to refill the food more timely, especially during peak hours. The staff can be abrupt at times, however they are on the ball with taking the used dishes and refilling water. the buffet area is small, so I was surprised at the price for lunch. For my daughter and I, before tip and drinking only water, the tab was just under $40. I will still come again though. The food is definitely worth it. I would say it's pretty authentic/traditional Indian food. They also have buffets for lunch and dinner at reasonable prices. I believe they have parking in the back but not sure. This place offers an abundance of Indian dish selections, all at reasonable prices. When we went on a Saturday evening around 6 PM, half of the seats were unfilled. Our orders came out after about 20 minutes and during the wait, the waitress provided us with some snacks that were on the house. Parking could be difficult to find during lunch or dinner hours. I came here for dinner with a friend last night. This restaurant got great Indian food. Many customers had dinner here as well. They were from different cultures. The restaurant has a decent size with many tables and chairs. Most of the customers had all you can eat buffet, so servers were busy cleaning our tables or taking away our dishes and giving us water. All you can eat buffet included a wide varieties of curry chicken, beef and seafood (prawns), two different types of Indian rice, some deep fried veggies (onions and potatoes), salads with different dressings, and etc. We also had some naan bread to go with the curry food. Everything tasted excellent. The only downsize of eating here is the smell of the curry. After dinner, we walked out of the restaurant, but our clothes, hair and everything else smelled like curry.
