First time trying out Monsoon Indian Restaurant. It's next door to Miso Taco. We dropped in for a Friday lunch (12:30pm). No wait with plenty of open tables. Lunch specials (11:30am to 2:45pm) range from $12.95 to $14.95. They asked for spice level; went with medium, which was barely mild. - Lamb combo ($13.95) - opted for the lamb palak. Best of the three combos we tried. Naan was plentiful but a touch soft. Yellow dal tadka and salad were bland, pakoras were nice. - 2x Seafood combo ($13.95) - opted for the fish coconut curry and prawn vindaloo. Small portion of seafood. Curries were bland - Gulab jamun - special colouring for Diwali. Nice way to end our meal Decent Indian eats but nothing memorable. read more

Don't bother asking for your meal to be spicy because they will not or can not honour the request. The last few times I complained, I was told to order in a certain fashion for next time (the manner of requesting is different each time). This is the only Indian restaurant I know that seems incapable of making food above mild in terms of spiciness. read more

I visited Monsoon Curry with my dad, and it turned out to be a fantastic experience. The menu has a great variety, and we loved that they offer both vegetarian and non-vegetarian options, making it ideal for mixed preferences. We started with the Monsoon Platter, which included a mix of veggie and meat appetizers like pakoras and bhajis -- crispy, flavorful, and a great way to kick off the meal. For mains, we had the Paneer Methi Malai and Chef Special Chicken Curry, both of which were rich, creamy, and packed with flavor. A huge plus -- they serve 4 pieces of naan with each curry (we chose garlic naan, lacha paratha, and keema naan). The naans were freshly baked and perfectly done in the clay oven. We also enjoyed their mango lassi, which was thick, refreshing, and not overly sweet. The ambiance is cozy and vibrant with Indian-style wall art and a warm, welcoming vibe. I reserve a table for two for dinner online. The restaurant or server called me to confirm the reservation. I went here for dinner with my friend on a weeknight. The restaurant was not too busy but I saw they had takeout and still got some customers who dined in here. Customer service was excellent. They greeted us and introduced their menus or dishes to us as we were not familiar with the Indian food. We ordered dinner for two. It was such a great deal for us. We could try vegetarian and non vegetarian dishes. The food came out quickly. The dinner included appetizers and three different dishes that came with Indian rice and naan. We asked to upgrade the naan to a garlic flavour. All of the dishes were great. Each dish had a unique flavour, special sauce and spices. We loved them all. Servers always paid attention to us or our table making sure if we needed water or if we wanted anything else. We would like to come back and try other dishes. We would recommend this restaurant to others for sure. read more

Loved that this place offers so many veggie options, include meat substitutes! And they offer rice or naan with each dish! I ordered veggie samosa and they were so flaky and stuffed full! The green chutney is incredible and I could have drank that! The other dip is a bit too thick/jamy for me. I also got the soy butter chicken which was phenomenal! So many pieces of beyond meat and the sauce was so thick and flavourful. Naan acts like a spoon with this dish as well! Prices are so good as well! Food was nice and hot and delicious! read more

I was in the area picking up sushi and saw the signboard out front of Monsoon advertising 20% off all take out orders. I walked in and spoke to the owner about the lunch special and the 20% off take out orders. I told him I would try it next week as I had not been here before and thought it was a good deal for lunch. With the COVID dine in restrictions still in place, take out is the only option as this establishment has no outdoor seating. Today I ordered the $12.95 lunch special with the butter chicken option over the phone. The food was ready when I arrived. And as they brought out the bill, I noted that they had not taken the 20% off. I enquired on this and they advised that the 20% off all take out orders did not include the lunch special. I smiled, paid and left with my butter chicken. The presentation and quantity of food was okay. I liked the pakora's and thought they were the best of the lunch. Unfortunately the butter chicken was not good...it was way to sweet and had very little flavour. With the deceptive advertising and poor taste of the food, it was not a positive food experience and I can not recommend Monsoon. read more

An unexpecting day led us to Cambie Village around lunch time and Indian fare was calling both of ours names. Monsoon is pretty new, very clean and shiny on the inside. I ordered their veg lunch combo ($12) of Palak kofta and vegetable korma, it came with rice, naan, salad and pakora. My partner ordered the non veg lunch combo ($13) of Palak kofta and butter chicken and a mango lassi. I honestly loved everything on my plate, the pakora was fried to perfection, the curries were tasty. I thought the portion was quite large and even had trouble finishing in one sitting. It could be a great order/pick up option to save half for later. The lunch special is from 11:30-3pm, and meals are very bang for your buck. Service was great, Amnon looked after us and she was so friendly and attentive! They offer free delivery within 5km. It could be dangerous if I lived closer. read more

Looks like the former Soho (bubble tea shop) has now been converted to this tasty Indian establishment. Parking is available along Cambie (the section to the S isn't metered) as well as the side streets. The interior looks pretty unchanged compared to Soho. Nothing wrong with that. Staff were friendly and helpful. No complaints. The food here is pretty solid. Portion size is pretty typical. Buddy and I asked for extra spicy everything, but the spiciness of the dishes were maybe medium. Guess they didn't want to kill us the first time around. Chicken jalfrezi - nice chunks of meat. Pretty good. Butter prawns - 7 nice large prawns in the dish. Plenty of butter sauce. Chef special lamb - this one had quite a bit of mint in the sauce. Not a bad thing at all, but just a heads up. I have to admit I was kind of thinking about toothpaste while eating this thing. Decent portion of meat chunks. Meat was a bit dry though. The garlic naan here is good, but for some reason I really liked the laccha paratha (wrinkly folded flatbread). Nice and moist but not too greasy. If I were to pick between these 2 items, I would pick the paratha. Great for mopping up the bowls too. Definitely will be back at some point. Recommended. read more

We went to this place for lunch. The restaurant was pretty empty and we were seated immediately. We ended up getting the chilli chicken as a starter followed by chicken Tikka masala, veg jalferazi , butter and garlic naan. The food was delicious and the portions were massive. Even after three people sharing the food, we had leftovers. The restaurant was a little strange as there were people coming in for to-go orders but the actual restaurant was completely empty during the two hours that we were there. Didn't know what kind of food to expect when i walked in but was pleasantly surprised.. First off, the restaurant has a nice ambience and comfortable seating. The location is easy to find and parking wasn't as tedious as had originally expected.. The staff was very attentive and kind, we were a party of six and they were helpful and kind throughout. We ordered a lot of items including Monsoon Appetizer Platter, Lots os Naan, Tandoori Roti, Keema Naan, Palak Paneer, Dal Makhani, Bhindi and more... All the items were very well made and tasty. We also ordered wine and drinks which blended well with the food There is a lot of other tasty items on their menu that am looking forward to trying again. Having seen that they have a separate all-vegan section of the menu and offer 20% off takeout orders, we had to give this place a try. I phoned in my order of three dishes plus some roti, and everything was ready for pick-up 20 minutes later. The vegetable jalfrezi had a decent array of veggies: specifically, carrots, broccoli, and green beans, with a nicely rich, spicy tomato-y sauce. I've had better jalfrezis in town, but this was very solid. 4/5 The aloo gobi was very solid: generous portion of cauliflower and perfectly cooked potatoes that had a great creamy texture to them. Amply saucey, but not too much so. Well-done. 4.5/5 The bhindi masala was perhaps my favourite of the three dishes, coming with perfectly cooked okra, and with the right amount of onions mixed in. Really well-flavoured and seasoned. 4.5/5 Each of the mains were $12.95 plus tax (-20% discount), so this was excellent value for money. We also added on some rotis ($2.50 plus tax, minus discount) to scoop up the curries. All in all, another excellent, vegan-friendly Indian restaurant in town. Recommmended. read more

Amazing service from our sweet and funny waitress. I am vegan and my wife is not, so we had a mix for our orders and she gave me the vegan options very clearly while explaining all the menu items very clearly for both of us (this included the spice levels!). The food was delicious. We came for the lunch thalis (combos) and were delighted by the flavor and portions. We are from Washington and have a shortage of decent thalis since Covid, so this was a very welcome surprise for us. We will definitely come here again whenever we visit. read more

This place is a solid option for vegetarian curries to go. I've tried 3 different vegetarian curries so far and they've all been decent. I definitely would not say this is the best Indian restaurant in Vancouver, there are far better options. However, this place is a good value for money. I pay around $10-12 for veg curries when I pick up (20% discount for pick up), and it's enough curry for many meals at least for me. They also deliver for free within 5 km! read more

The service is friendly and professional, asking for specific instructions ( spice level!!). Try this first restaurant when they first opened up they had some issues. Just ordered four takeout dishes. Good portion size. Ordered the hot and it was nice and hot with good flavour. Order online and get 10% off. And get either free rice or naam bread which was excellent. Naam was slightly chewy which went well. Definitely come back again. Had some pretty tasty curries. Had mango curry shrimp, tomato lamb, and curry chicken. All were very tasty. Also had naan both regular and garlic. Both very solid. Haven't tried many Indian restaurants so not sure if I can say this is the best but it is pretty good food. Waitress recommended lamb curry special which has a hint of mint which we will try next time. Reasonable pricing. Sparsely filled on a late Thursday night. Lots of skip the dish pickups so takeout seems positive. read more

It's near 19th & Cambie across from Choices, and is where the Soho Tea Room used to be.
