a Vietnamese vegetarian/vegan-friendly restaurant, and I was absolutely blown away by the vibrant flavors and beautiful presentation of the dishes. As someone who has meat heavy in their diet, I never imagined I could love vegetarian food this much until I tried this place. The wings made from mushrooms--are life-changing! Every dish is made fresh to order, and while they took a little longer to arrive, they were all piping hot and worth the wait. The eggplant dish and coconut rice cake, though simple, was incredibly flavorful. The nuoc mam (dipping sauce) was very spicy and flavourful as well with the dishes! If you're looking for a place that serves vibrant, flavorful, and beautifully presented plant-based dishes, this restaurant is a must-try! - spring rolls $12 8/10 - daikon cake $14 7.5/10 - uncle hing's wings $17 10/10 - coconut rice cake $13 9/10 - crystal dumplings $15 8/10 - black garlic egg plant $20 9/10 - bun bo hue $20 7.5/10

Now this is how you do vegetarian and vegan meals! No wonder they made the list for Yelp's Top 25 Places to Eat in 2024!! Everything we ordered from here made us go "ummm yuuummm!" We went there on a Sunday afternoon for lunch, I had gotten a reservation beforehand and I'm glad that I did because it was crowded and there was a slight wait for walk-ins. The space is not too big but it's done up in a very tasteful manner. I would say it's a good date night spot for sure! When we arrived, we were seated promptly and the servers were pretty attentive. I got the guava juice and the ice offee.. I thought the ice coffee wasn't too sweet. For food, we were so intrigued by their appies that we decided to get just those and skip the main course. :: Uncle Hing's Wings - crispy oyster mushroom with a sweet & spicy sauce. It was pretty good, but the rice crackers seemed bland. :: Truffle dumplings - soupy, garlicky, and yummy! :: Coconut rice cakes - hands down the best dish on the menu! All of us at the table couldn't get enough of it to the point that we decided to get a second round. They were super soft and would melt in your mouth! The dipping sauce really added to the flavour as well. I will definitely go back just for them! :: pan fried daikon cakes - again, the texture was soft and different. It was placed on top of an egg. We ordered some chilli oil on the side which went really well with the cakes! Honestly, thinking of my next visit there already. 5/5!

I loveeeee them. I have never been to such an amazing vegan place before. This place has the best curated menu for vegan dishes with the perfect ambience for a date night. We went there on a Friday evening and we quickly got a space. We ordered couple of dishes from their menu, but the best one was Bun Bo Hue. The whole bowl was so flavorful from mushrooms to the lemongrass broth. And you can customize the spiciness too. Trust me, I have to go back here again and again to try everything on their menu. And everyone on the staff was so friendly and welcoming! I love this place.

SO MANY good vegan options -- my Vietnamese dining partner said that the food was excellent full-stop, not just for being the vegan version of these dishes. I want to go back and try averting on the menu!

Friday eve dinner with my date. Had a reservation for 8pm. Seated immediately right across from the bar by the booth side. Most of the tables were filled with other patrons. We ordered the truffle dumplings, uncle Hings wings, and coconut rice cakes. Beers to start. Pros: - delicious vegetarian cuisine. Probably one of the best in the city so far (we've tried folke, mila) - friendly attentive service - easy to book a reservation - free parking on kingsway

Probably the best vegetarian restaurant I've ever been to. Most likely. Do Chay is the best vegetarian restaurant I've been to. My faves are the spring rolls with "ish sauce", truffle dumplings, and hing's wings! If I didn't know these were vegetarian I honestly wouldn't have known! The sauce for the spring rolls is even better than the real thing. And the dumplings .... wow... a bite of pure umami. The noodles were both super flavorful but they came out last and I was so full by then I couldn't appreciate them enough. Also pictured: papaya salad, coconut cakes(?) "eggs". super delicious. and tofu stir fry 10/10.

I consider this place the gold standard of vegetarian Vietnamese places. I(I went to and reviewed the Yaletown location before they closed). We booked one week in advance for 6 for Friday night - it's a small space so highly recommended. Wait staff is very friendly. Mmm the food. We ordered so much to share. Everything is so so good - the mixture of flavours, and textures is incredible. Every bite has both smooth and crunchy. My favourites in particular: - the coconut cakes. Wow. Smooth filling is sooo luscious. - green beans. Spicy, the taste and crunchy texture is sooo good. - lemongrass tofu. Superb flavour and sauce. - red banana fried crispy rice dessert. This one is just incredible. We asked them how they made it so good. It's steamed and then fried. Soft and warm and crunchy on outside with tapioca. - buffalo wings - the mushrooms are really good. My son who don't usually eat mushrooms are a lot. The crunchies are also really good. We also ordered almost everything else. You really can't go wrong.

Awesome to have a vietnamese restaurant that serves vegetarian food thar expands on the viet food menu. Lots of thing to try here that are not typically found in Vancouver. From the reviews before me, everyone raves about the eggplant dish and the wings. The wings were definitely the star of the show. Great flavor, great texture. The eggplant dish was lackluster. The choy sum veggies it came with were just blached with no salt or anything. I would skip it and try something else. The monsoon rolls were very refreshing but the crispy mix inside weren't very crispy. The peanut pineapple sauce was delicious. The banh xeo was disappointing as it was filled way too much with jicama and sprouts. The filling is double the amount as it normally is. The crepe itself got soggy too soon which means the veggies inside were too wet. Southern dry noodles were not bad. The sauce all went to the bottom so you should mix it every once in a while. The soup that it came with was very plain. We will definitely come back for the deep fried oyster mushrooms but maybe try other things next time.

We went for Mothers Day and were really impressed with the food options. The waitresses were very attentive and the space was cozy! We started with three appies and none disappointed. The papaya salad was fresh and a bit tangy, the spring rolls were hot, delicious and crispy and the coconut rice cakes were not too coconuty and had a great texture. Softer on the top but crunchy on the bottom. Warning - also served piping hot! I wasn't super hungry so I didn't order a main but tasted the lemongrass tofu rice bowl, the satay noodles and Bún Bò Huế and all had great tastes. They were a bit more gentle in flavour than the appies but all satisfying!

This is by far the best vegan Vietnamese restaurant that I have found anywhere. We had spring rolls and fry bread for appetizers. The spring rolls were so good that they disappeared before I could remember to take a photo. The fry bread was also great, the slight tartness of the jackfruit balanced out the sweetness of the fry bread. Next up was the sweet and spicy bowl and the bun bo hue. The bowl was alright, not too sweet or spicy with a nice crispness to the veggies. The star was the bun bo hue. The broth was super flavorful, very close to the meat version that I had to keep on slurping even when I said I was full. You won't be disappointed coming here.

Really creative, inspired v Vietnamese food! I'm excited to come back and try other dishes on the menu. Food we ordered: - Coconut cakes - 5/5 incredible. So light and filled with flavor, light and crispy edges with unctuous delicious soft insides. Highly recommend, love the play on textures and flavors. The sauce has a lot of chili flakes that kept getting stuck in my throat. - Bun bo hue lemongrass soup - Nice strong lemongrass flavor. This is a predominantly faux meat dish so would choose a more plant forward one next time. This is a spicier one with the same chili flakes that stuck to my throat. This was a lot of food, the bowl is a big one. 4/5 - Plantain sticky rice tapioca - The Plantain to sticky rice ratio was really high with a very small amount of plantain. The plantain is like the sushi filling to a roll of sticky rice that's then deep fried and put onto a bed of tapioca pearls. The crisp on the sticky rice was a bit hard, and heavy. Tapioca was a bit on the sweeter end but nice and light. 2/5 - It is a taste preference though, because partner loved the dish since they liked crispy things. Perfect balance of textures of creamy and crunchy, smooth banana, not too pungent or strong. Liked the fried sticky rice and presentation that looked like a sea star. Service: Really sweet friendly people here. Ambiance: Pretty clean and modern.

I really enjoyed my meal here. Went during lunch on Monday. It was busy because it was a holiday so I recommend making reservations. Service was quick and attentive. I think the uncle hing's wings are a must try! Made out of mushrooms and great sweet and sour flavor. Also ordered the black garlic eggplant which was delicious but didn't have a strong garlic flavor. We then ordered a southern noodle dish which I really enjoyed. Everything had great flavors! And portions were good to share. We ended up having leftovers to bring home. My reason for 4/5 is because there was an odd smell once we walked in. I have no idea what it was from. when we walked in

It is a small quaint little place. One of the best vegetarian places I have been to till date. The service is very quick. I highly recommend their rice cakes, prawns curry and truffle dumplings. It is a small place so I would recommend doing a reservation beforehand.

I was the only veg-inclined person in the group and didn't realize some of the others didn't know the place was fully vegetarian before arriving, but it didn't seem like anyone was disappointed with the vegetarian offerings. We tried a large variety of dishes, and I won't list all of them because I don't think I'd even remember everything. My favourites were the walnut custard buns, the pea tips rice sheet roll, and the new tapioca pudding (I'd never tried this kind of baked tapioca pudding before and I loved the texture). They also brought out fresh baked barbeque buns which were nice and soft. Others really liked the vegetarian chicken nuggets and black truffle mushroom dumplings, so I think it's safe to say everything is pretty good. I felt like I ate a lot, but at the end, after they split the bill 6 ways, everyone only paid $22 (before tip). So if you go with a big group you can try lots of things at a pretty good price. Service was pretty good. They did try to push some dishes on us, but I think they were just trying to be helpful with most of us not being familiar with how to order for dim sum, and their patience was appreciated.

Pan-fried sticky rice is something I always wanted to try. The pan-fried sticky rice is less starchy than the steamed. Keeping its shape and not so sticky. I took the leftover to go. My concern about vegetarian restaurants is the quantity of deep-fried dishes, soy and gluten content in their menu.

For dessert the Plum with Fig Leaf, Miso Honeycomb and Thai Basil Sourdough was good. No arguments there. The shiitake was fine, palatable. The cabbage and potato were very bland and made me question why the Acorn is so hyped. It was so bland i didn't finish it. Keep in mind SERVING SIZES ARE TINY. The ravioli were practically inedible the chicken of the woods was beyond overly salted and the pasta wasn't cooked. We joked that al dente was at least touching water. This pasta has never heard of water. Easily one of if not THE WORST PASTA I've ever had at a restaurant in the past few years. Thank goodness the plum dessert was yummy. Very good. But truly I don't understand why people rave about The Acorn. I love food. Im a vegetarian but it's hard to comprehend why it's so hyped. Maybe there was a new cook? Maybe it was an off night? Crossed off my Vancouver bucket list. It took me a while to write this review because I frankly was in shock the contrast between the actual food vs the lore it has around town. The highlights were a basic sourdough and a well balanced dessert. That just feels so wrong.
