My partner and I went here for an anniversary. We are both vegetarian and decided to try the chefs table menu. Everything that came out was delicious and unique. We are pretty picky eaters but enjoyed almost everything that came out. We would definitely come back again! The staff were all very friendly. The ambiance was good and the lights dimmed at a certain point in the evening. The worst part was the chair that I sat on- it was very uncomfortable. Otherwise everything was great!

Went to The Acorn to celebrate my boyfriend's birthday, he is vegetarian so this seemed like the perfect place to go! I had taken a look at their menu online before we left but most things in their restaurant menu were different. Maybe their menu changes seasonally? Drinks: :: Non-alcoholic gin elderflower - it was soo good, very refreshing and not too sweet. :: Blueberry cocktail - unfortunately, I can't remember the name of the cocktail and its not mentioned on their online menu but it was decent. I had asked the server to recommend their sweetest cocktail and this is the one she recommended, however, I did not think it was sweet. It was more sour. Food: :: Sourdough - marquis wheat bread, salt, and served with house cultured butter. I really liked the butter but the sourdough was pretty chewy and hard. :: Halloumi - beer battered halloumi served with tartar sauce. Who can hate deep fried cheese? It was a bit too salty but the sauce helped. :: Corn - again, not mentioned in their online menu but it was basically a creamy corn sauce served with boiled potatoes and mushroom. I wish the potatoes were salted a little. It was bland. The service was good! The space was pretty small and the music was loud so it was hard to have a conversation.

3.5/5 I am always open to trying vegetarian/vegan restaurants and the Acorn was one I looked forward to due to their award-winning locavore menu. Initially, my best friend and I were interested in the Dine Out but upon arrival, we decided that the menu might be too filling so we opted for à la carte. The interior was small but gorgeous, giving chic trendy vibes. We ordered an appetizer and two mains to share. The chayote features a crunchy vegetable with a tangy sweet and sour sauce. It was refreshing but not satisfying enough for my Asian palette (more tartness and spice would've been good). Waffle was a wonderful vegan chicken and waffles - the mushrooms were so crispy and delicious! The gravy also paired very nicely with the mushroom and waffles. Finally, the harvest was a rosti-style vegetable shavings with a nice little salad on top. I ordered an egg on the side which was a nice addition to my meat-less meal. Overall, we both felt that while the food was good it wasn't mindblowing, especially for the price. I appreciate the message behind the locally sourced menu and recognize the costs reflect those efforts, but overall we would likely choose different places to have vegetarian/vegan food. Service was lovely though - everyone is so nice and the mise en place and food descriptions are well appreciated. Sad it wasn't a perfect fit for our tastes but I recognize and appreciate this little local gem.

The Acorn is probably the best fine-dining vegetarian restaurant in Vancouver. If you're visiting the city, likely you're staying downtown, and heading out to this part of town, off the beaten tourist path, may not be on your radar...but it's a 10-15 minute ride-share ride here, and you'll be rewarded with creative, vegetarian fine-dining food that you won't forget. That was our experience anyway. We had the chef's tasting menu which was so many courses, each of which had multiple options, that it was difficult to keep track off. (I'm honestly not sure I labeled all the photos correctly...and that's even with our server giving me a printed copy of the menu where she marked off all of the items that we ate. Everything was PACKED with flavor and a variety of textures and tastes were provided...from house-made sourdough bread with basil butter and a delightful dipping sauce...to a mushroom broth for supping...to a a sorbet-like icy dish as a cleanser...and the many, I mean many other savory dishes that were brought during our courses. They clearly put a tremendous amount of thought and detail into their flavors and our mouths were never bored. The food here was excellent. The food here was plentiful. The food here was all vegetarian. You can't go wrong and you certainly won't go hungry. The Acorn is well worth a visit.

Such a cute spot for brunch! Lovely food and presentation. I started with a tequila Caesar and it was so good! I opted for the mushroom and loved it. The crispy oyster mushrooms were so tasty and I loved the sauces. Pricier than expected ($23) but the flavors were on point.

My friends and I had a wonderful experience trying their tasting menu during a visit to Vancouver. The space is not too large, but very nicely decorated - modern yet cozy. We were served numerous dishes. Everything was very tasty and nicely presented. It was a fun experience. It seemed quite experimental with s focus on seasonality. Service was friendly and attentive at all times. It's a good value considering the quality and quantity of the food they serve. I'm glad we got to check it out while in Vancouver!

A friend and I visited during Dine Out 2024 to experience the tasting menu. My friend got stuck in transit and was almost 30 minutes late but they did seat me and take my drink order while I waited. They had to start bringing the food out before she arrived because of the way their kitchen operates. A few different servers came by our table throughout the night and everyone was very warm and professional. The timing of each course (after my friend arrived) was right on. Their dine out menu is $65/pp and mostly vegan, with just a few dairy dishes. A very similar all-vegan menu is available at no cost, as is a gluten-free menu . A few dishes had the option to add cheese for a small fee. Our vegan meal was served over 4 courses and included: Sourdough: Hearty toasted sourdough with a side vinaigrette. The vinaigrette was tasteless to me but the bread was amazing on its own. Squash: Shredded squash salad with hazelnuts, cilantro, and dried fruit, with hoisin sauce on the side to mix in. I loved the savoury-sweet combination with a hint of spice and pops of flavour from the swirls of hoisin. My favourite cold dish of the night. Sunchoke: Another nice sweet and savoury dish with crisp sunchoke in a slightly charred dressing, topped with berries. Shiitake: Tender shiitake mushrooms over a rich squash puree. I loved the flavour of the sauce with the subtle seaweed undertone from the kelp. Beet: Beet carpaccio with sauerkraut and fermented horseradish. I love fermented foods so I was a fan of this. Chicory: Braised endive dressed with elderflower, apple, and hazelnut. I liked the cooked endive but the raw elements of this dish just tasted "raw" and plain. This was my least favourite. Tomato: Cavatelli coloured black using leek ash in fermented tomato sauce. The black colour was inspired by squid ink pasta. The pasta was perfectly al dente. Pasta in tomato sauce is by no means an original idea but this was just a little different in subtle ways, and it was definitely my favourite dish of the night. Peach: For dessert, sorbet with spruce tip shortbread crumble. The piney and salty shortbread complimented the peach very well. Not as experimental as the savoury dishes, but still a delicious ending. You can add a wine pairing for each course for $30, We opted out of this because I didn't want to drink (and just don't like wine enough to add $30 to an already expensive meal). I got the nonalcoholic Lavanda Fizz mocktail instead, which was okay but a little weak on the lavender. lAt this price, I expected everything to be sublime, but I thought a few things were a little unpolished (as noted above, and my friend and I both would have liked one more hot dish in the mix). There were a few dishes that did wow me though, and I really enjoyed the experimental concept with the chance to try some uncommon foods. I don't regret shelling out the money once, but I'm undecided if I'd want to return, and if I did, I'd definitely want to order a la carte rather than do the regular $79 tasting menu, or maybe try brunch instead of dinner.

Went to the Acorn for a lunch visit and the food was really good! I wasn't sure about having brunch here but am glad that I did! The only downside was that the waitress accidentally spat while telling us the specials and never replaced the napkin which had the spit. Minor detail though!

I made a reservation for a friend's birthday. He's vegetarian, so I thought this would be a great way to celebrate, but unfortunately we both left underwhelmed by the food, drinks, and service. 1st snag - we brought a cake to the restaurant but was told that because of covid, they couldn't help us serve it. I was disappointed to hear that. We ended up eating it at my place afterwards, but it would've been a much better experience to eat at the restaurant. 2nd snag - we started off with drinks. I was eyeing the Sungold cocktail, which our server described as being similar to a margarita. However, I'm not a huge fan of mezcal and asked if the server could replace the mezcal with more tequila, as the drink already has tequila in it. I was told very firmly that substitutions weren't possible. Again, I was disappointed. I ended going with a standard margarita. All of the above I wouldn't have minded if we liked the food, but sadly that was the most disappointing part of the whole experience. Here's what we had (** marks what we liked): Amuse bouche - grilled tomato, fried mushroom **Sourdough bread Salad - kohlrabi with vinaigrette Plum dish with kohlrabi **Summer squash / zucchini **Shiitake mushroom with pickled mushrooms on top Cold potato salad - weird to serve a cold dish after some hot dishes Fried lobster mushroom with bellpepper sauce Palate cleanser - melon ice, but it tasted like pickles?? we were confused by this "dessert" Dessert - fruit sorbet with gin, but the gin and the fruity flavor didn't mix well together As you can see, we didn't like most of the courses, and the only course we really enjoyed was the shiitake mushroom. For a meal that cost $100+ pp after taxes and tip, we expected a lot more.

Beet: Golden apple golden curry, bull kelp tonkatsu, and onion.

My vegan friend wanted to go to this Michelin-recommended vegetarian restaurant for his birthday. So of course, I said yes. The food was unique with regional and seasonal items. I'm not Canadian and found it fascinating to try different varietals of beets, beans, and berries that I've never heard of before. We ordered the four-course menu, which was way more than four courses, and I was pleased when the dishes kept coming. The highlights included their delicious sourdough bread with house-cultured butter. The umami flavor in the bread was to die for. I live near SF, and we get great sourdough, so I was incredibly excited by this unique flavor. The Sunchoke dish was excellent and had a sweet taste from the sweet salal berries, and a great crunch from the burnt onions and sunchokes. The beets were amazing, especially when combined with the green curry flavor. The sweetness from the beets complemented the tang of the fresh curry. I've never had beet curry, and it worked! The last dish was rutabaga and it was just ok. It had a taste that I couldn't get behind, and the vegetable was also crunchy and didn't work for me. Our servers (we had two) were nice and helpful. I would have liked it if they slowed down when describing the dishes so that I could follow along. It was hard to know exactly what we were eating since they both quickly spoke the ingredients. It was such a fun experience, and I'd try more vegetarian restaurants in the future!

The delicious salad with pickled rose petals next to the omelet

Wonderfully different cuisine. They could have fooled me with the "oysters" served in the ceramic shells. The sourdough bread and condiments were delicious, as was the salad accompanying our omelets We were here for brunch on a Sunday. After the smaller plates arrived, the wait time for the omelets was pushing 45 minutes. But the food was so refreshing and different it was a fabulous experience. Highly recommended.

So. Good. First of all it's adorable - relatively small, but with open windows and nice circulation of air. While it's definitely fancy food and top notch service there isn't any pretentious about the place - I was overheated so had a t shirt on and felt like I fit in just fine. We did the coursed dinner and everything was, as i mentioned above - so good. First of all - there was a lot of food - it wasn't one of those places where you have a multi coursed meal and then need to eat a burger afterwards. There was bread, pasta, protein! I can't even begin to describe the flavors other than that every dish was both familiar and creative and a true joy to eat. Definitely one of the best coursed dining experiences I have ever had - can't wait to go again someday.

The entrance is completely unmarked, with darkened windows and no signage; you literally have to decide whether to push or pull your way into the gloom, which fits the "thief" theme perfectly once you step inside. Inside, the space leans into a **chic** speakeasy ambience, only slightly undercut by 90s chillout tunes that are a touch loud but still on-brand for a laid-back late-night hideout. The food is where things really land. Frog legs arrive as the star curiosity and end up tasting strikingly familiar--so much so they echo the famed chicken wings from Anh and Chi in both comfort and flavour. The beef tartare is properly seasoned and genuinely delicious, rich but balanced enough that it never feels heavy. Ox tail is a unique inclusion on the menu and it follows through, offering deep, slow-cooked flavour that stands out even among the stronger dishes. Duck breast is cooked to a textbook pink, tender and juicy, an easy "order again" plate. Dessert keeps the momentum going. An oolong peach creation acts as the perfect finishing touch: fragrant, slightly floral, and just sweet enough to close the meal without tipping into cloying territory. Service and atmosphere reinforce the sense of a discreet drinking den--this is the place you duck into for a properly made drink and a series of small plates, not a high-traffic scene bar. With nothing to complain about--from food to vibe--The Good Thief feels like a well-executed concept: a hidden, unmarked bolthole where you slip in from the dark, linger over excellent plates, and slip back out just as quietly.

Aaron came out as we were looking for Plan B and let us know the event had just ended and they were open again. (5 loud cheers on the street for sure!) I tried both the Kyoto and Wet Work, enjoying them both. They would even work as a blend of one another. My dad accidentally ordered a chocolate martini instead of an espresso martini, and Aaron made it happen. (The entire table loved it! Take that poured over some ice cream and I'd be far too content!) My brother had the gin martini, and while not a fan of gin straight up, it had a nice smooth finish that I could appreciate.

We had the best time at Odd Society, and I am still smiling two days later. Initially perplexed,…read moresince our Uber dropped us off one block away, we had no idea where we were in the dark of the Canadian night. Surrounded by warehouses, did the driver want us to experience a "call of the wild?" However, Odd Society beckoned one block from the corner, and two seats were available at the strange bar. Strange because our view was blocked by a kind of ersatz plastic and wood wagon wheel blocking our view of the servers and bar. It was reminiscent of Utah's Zion Curtain. Later, I was told it was part of Odd Society's Covid protection and helped the bartenders stack things up. Okay, fine, but tear the damn things down. They're obnoxious. Odd Society creates an array of liquors made from ingredients sourced locally by law. It's required by their license. I tried almost all of them, and most were fantastic. Abby and Colin, our servers, were charming, fun, and educational, answering my questions, which became increasingly inane as the alcohol took effect. The distillery also mixes fantastic cocktails, and mine, named Midori, was friggen unbelievable. I had two of them along with my liquor tasting. My Midori was made with a special concoction called Portuguese Sweet Milk, or something like that. It was amazing. I want one for breakfast. The fun kept coming, and I didn't want to leave. Alas, we had reservations at Lunch Lady up the street. We should have stayed at Odd Society. Lunch Lady was a disappointment. Try Odd Society out as both a distillery and cocktail bar. You won't be disappointed about either one.

In summary, the place was ok, but noticed after the fact that we were overcharged for the drinks. It's a small space - about 3 high tables, one lower one, each seating 4 to maybe at most 5 people, plus a bar. I reserved a table for the 2 of us at 3:30 pm on a Sunday (earliest reservation they had as they open at 3 pm) and we were seated at 3 pm. They checked our vaccine passports and then seated us. Not long after we were seated, the remaining tables were all taken just after opening for 30 minutes so I would recommend reserving if you prefer tables over bar seating. The waitress brought over a drinks menu and food menu. The menu showed cocktails at $13. We chose our drinks and ordered, then the waitress came by with a second menu that she said was for Sunday only. She apologized and said she normally doesn't work Sunday's so she didn't know this promotional menu was available. This menu had some cocktails on promotion that I would have not minded to try, but I had already received my cocktail. Oh well. I had the Violet and Claire, which looked great and tasted pretty good for the first half. However by the second half of the drink, it started to taste too sweet. It was not bad for a cocktail, overall. My friend said the Smoke Between the Sheets cocktail was alright as well. We got our bills quickly as we had a second place to visit afterwards. After paying, I snapped a picture of the bill at the time but did not notice until I got home that to my surprise, each cocktail was listed on the bill at $14.95. I recalled their physical menu saying $13, and verified this with their menu online. Unfortunately, I did not notice the discrepancy until I was home, otherwise I would have mentioned something. Note that our visit was at the end of November 2021, and at the time I'm writing this review (December 26, 2021), their online menu still has cocktail prices at $13. So, I am not sure if this was a one time mistake when we paid, or if they have just forgotten to update their menu? Either way, this was disappointing. Because of the entire experience I probably won't visit again, especially with all the other options Vancouver has for cocktails.

I have seen a lot of good reviews about this place and convinced our party of 8 to come try it…read moresince it's in our neighborhood and we have been looking for a new local Greek restaurant since Panos on Marine Drive closed down. Sadly, we were sooooo disappointed! We came on a Saturday evening at peak time, around 6:30pm, so granted, we expected it to be busy. We were sat nearly right away in comfortable booths with tables. The waitress brought us menus and water. So far so good! We ordered our food, nothing crazy, several got the special of the night, lamb souvlaki with potatoes rice and pita. A couple ordered the seafood pasta, one asked for red sauce instead of cream sauce and two asked for veggie lasagna's but they only had one order available. When we asked about the beers on menu, we were told each one was unavailable except for Heineken and the seasonal beer. When we asked what it was, she didn't know. She then brought the can of beer over and said she wasn't sure what type it was. Fair enough! She was young, seemed new and not quite trained with alcohol so no big deal. It gave us a giggle. It was a Granville Island radler btw. I ordered a Heineken and my friend ordered the yummy sounding spicy passionfruit margarita. My beer came fairly quick but no margarita. Then the young waitress came out to say that our food would take a bit longer to come out since they were a bit slammed with orders and asked if we wanted any appetizers. We decided we'd be ok, and decided to wait. One hour later!!!!! I'm not joking, one hour later, the margarita drink came out. Again, we noticed very young and probably newly hired staff attempting to make drinks. When this $19 drink came out, it looked like the rim of salt was touched with fingers and a lot of it was missing. However, my friend desperate for a drink or morsel of anything, decided to just have it as it came. She said it was delicious and the best thing she had. One hour and a half later!!! Our food came out. My medium rare lamb was cooked through and the pasta with red sauce came out with a cream sauce, but there was NO way we were going to send anything back as we were pretty hangry at this point. The potatoes were delicious, the rice extremely plain. All 8 of us agreed that for the price, service and quality of food, we would not be returning, although my friend said if the passionfruit drink was on the happy hour menu, she would consider it. All in all, very disappointed.

I ate at two other tasting menu spots while I was here and this place was a clear winner. It's a one Michelin star restaurant and absolutely lives up to the hype. We did the tasting menu and every single course was delicious. There were a lot of flavor combinations I'd never had before, and the presentation was on point. They took the time to explain each dish, which I really appreciated. The chef clearly focuses on seasonality and local ingredients, so the menu changes by season. This tasting menu was themed around "Preservation," which made the experience even more interesting. The ambiance was top notch. The space felt warm, intimate, and thoughtfully designed, which really elevated the whole experience without feeling stuffy or overdone. The pacing was perfect, about two hours total, and I left very full and very happy. Can't wait to come back.

I didn't realize the restaurant did sushi platters and oysters - what a pleasant surprise! The oysters were delicious. For the sushi I've definitely had better, but was still impressed that the restaurant had this kind of platter available. Portions were really big and among the dishes, the miso cod was a big standout with great flavour and texture. I also enjoyed the matcha tiramisu dessert as it was not too sweet. The staff were very friendly and attentive to replenishing drinks. I believe some of the drinks were made specifically for the event so I'm not sure if any of the ones I had are on the regular menu. However, the drinks were delicious and the 'Ryujin' especially was my favourite one (the glass with dragonfruit garnished over top!) It was fruity, sweet, and deceivingly tasted like tropical juice. I would like to return to experience the restaurant on its own sometime. In the meantime, it's an excellent spot for private events!

We ordered earlier in the day, and the shucker was clearly alert, taking the extra steps to ensure a clean finish. Truffle fries were indulgent and perfectly crisp, though the garlic aioli was milder than I prefer -- almost like straight mayo without a punch. I skipped the sushi wrap, sticking to my traditionalist ways, but my friend enjoyed it. Brownie bites, complimentary as they were, were a disappointment. Lacking enough fat and possibly stored improperly, they tasted a bit stale -- a shame, because how does a brownie not taste good? Our server was attentive and charming, swooping in at just the right moments for round twos and top-offs, which made the experience that much smoother.
