We were here for donner quite crowded place, but by luck we got a table without much wait. Ambiance was good. This is a mexican inspired vegetarian and vegan faire. Their oranorang home made spicy sauce is super good made everything bpeopr. We ordered PASCALE MARK Cheese, poblano corn mix, and fresh jalapenos on tortilla chips. Served with roasted tomato salsa and sour cream. Very good choice really kindles your appetite QUESADILLA Three quesadillas filled with melted cheese with cilantro Served with salsa & sour cream and rice & beans. Spicy home made sauce really helped here. Baked version HORACE "LEFTY": Poblano corn mix, pinto beans, fresh jalapenos, cheese, fresh cut tomato salsa, green cabbage, sour cream, and crushed tortilla chips. They charge 5$ more for baked version. Horchata for drinks , which tasted good. Overall good experience.
We went with a couple of friends for dinner at The Burrow, which is a Vegetarian/Vegan Mexican restaurant. We ordered Nachitos, 4 different flavors of tacos, two orders of the Leona Gayle Burrito, and some drinks. I'd heard good things about this restaurant so I have to say that I was really quite disappointed with our experience here. The problem with the food is that they put too many ingredients in. Especially when it comes to the tacos. As a result of trying to pack in too many ingredients none of the flavors stood out; consequently, everything ended up tasting the same. Less ingredients but larger quantities of the ingredients would have probably made the food better. That way we might have been able to properly taste the flavors in each dish. The one good dish on the table was the Nachitos appetizer. It was a simple dish with very few ingredients on it, so we could thoroughly taste the cheese melted on top of the tortilla chips and the flavor of the guacamole that we dipped the chips into. Our Nachitos was supposed to have Vegan cheese on top but the server made a mistake with our order and we ended up with real cheese on our Nachitos. Not a big deal for us as none of us were actually Vegan. We just wanted to try it with Vegan cheese. Since it was already at our table though, and we don't like to waste food, we decided to keep it and eat it even though our server offered to bring us a new order with Vegan cheese on top. I have been to this restaurant many many times and i must say that the name change does not effect its quality of food, the vibe and ambiance of this place. It is a very multicultural and welcoming space for all age groups. Casual dining experience. Great collection of drinks and food which is mostly blend of mexican - canadian. Vegetarian aspect makes the food even more interesting as the soya and tofu options are played around but you can always get vegan options as well. I like going here for a heart to heart conversations as well coz when you are in here , no body stares at you or judge you.
This was a perfect place for a casual rainy day dinner. The atmosphere was so welcoming and cozy, and the food was hearty and comforting. Our server was so friendly! The format of the dishes is all Mexican staples (burritos, tacos, etc) but I feel that the flavours were not really Mexican. This is not a bad thing, though, because it's great food, just don't come here for "authentic" Mexican. They're doing their own thing. My friend and I got chips and salsa to start off. The "small" size chips and salsa is still pretty big and was more than enough for 2. We took almost half the chips home, so I'd say this could comfortably serve 3-4 if you just want the chips as a light appetizer. I like their salsa a lot. It had a fresh vegetal flavour which was a little unusual but good. And we were a little surprised to find that the bowl of orange sauce placed next to the salsa that looked a little like squash puree was actually hot sauce! I really liked the hot sauce too - it is spicy but has enough "volume" of other flavours that you can heap it on to get the best effect. I had the spicy walnut lentil enchiladas with salsa verde for my entree. I got the vegan version, which just changes out real cheese for vegan Daiya cheese. The "spicy" descriptor is best understood as "well-seasoned" and not "hot", because I didn't think the enchiladas were hot at all, but they did have a really nice deep and earthy flavour. They were quite filling. The salsa verde was delicious. Personally I'm not the biggest fan of Daiya cheese (it's a little goopy to me), but I did think they baked it well and had the right balance with the amount of cheese. I ordered this with the side salad which was beautiful and came with a tasty vinaigrette. The whole dish was very filling and definitely good value. I got a glass of horchata to drink too, which was creamy and lovely! Loved the foamy cap. Overall the place leaves me with a very positive impression and I'd be happy to return!
ALL vegan Mexican-inspired food! It was not bad. The sauces were good. There was a lot of vegetables and it was all very filling. I wish there was more protein options! I liked the texture of the tortilla, mildly chewy and crunchy after being grilled! Service was good and the staff were friendly. The generally ambiance was chill and casual. Great if you're looking for some taco/burrito bites.
The food was amazing, so much flavour! The staff were incredibly attentive and kind. It was our first time here and they helped us out with the menu and gave us some recommendations, which were awesome. It was a casual place with a warming atmosphere. The portions were huge and so exciting to see a decent price with a good quantity and quality to the food. We ordered -- boozy hibiscus lemonade tea -- the spicy walnut nachos -- the drumsticks w/ chili lime dry rub and sticky garlic -- 2 tacos (though I can't remember their names)
This review is actually a 4.5 but since I can't do that on Yelp, it's a 5 ;) It had been a while since I've been to Bandidas. I've come for dinner and breakfast but I couldn't remember much other than that it was a unique and solid place to go for food and drinks! We came last weekend for brunch - pleasantly surprised that there was no wait! We all got coffees - great taste! Not sure which roaster they are partnered with but solid coffees. KEEP IN MIND - BANDIDAS TAQUERIA IS VEGETARIAN! So when you're thinking you're going for a typical brunch with bacon, sausages, etc. think otherwise. I got Sherman's Benny which I enjoyed a lot.. They are famous for their cornbread muffins and that was topped with goat cheese, caramelized onions, two soft-poached eggs, and our waitress offered us the choice of ranchero sauce or salsa verde but also said we could have one egg with one sauce and the other egg with the other sauce! Huzzah!! It came with pinto beans, roasted yam and potato hash, and purple cabbage. Our plates were loaded. Also at our table someone got Hick's Benny which was basically like mine above but swap the goat cheese and onions for guac and another got the Huevos Rancheros! So the portions were great, the meal very refreshing in terms of company to a normal standard brunch because it is loaded with vegetable and bean goodness. I am glad that their cornbread muffins bring a different dynamic and flavour to the restaurant. My boyfriend felt that he wasn't "wowed" and wouldn't return any time. Their benny fell a bit flat and the flavour of the meal was overall more sweet than savoury, given it appeared to be a savoury meal. He felt the potato and yam hash were his favourite parts.
The Burrow is very inviting with the right balance of homeliness and modernity. The server seemed to really care that I enjoyed my meal and gave helpful recommendations. I got tacos and a horchata. Keeping in mind that everything is vegetarian, the tacos were very good! Lots of ingredients, textures, and flavours. The server recommended the horchata with oat milk and it was one of the best I've had. Best of all, I felt like I made a healthy and unique choice at the end of the meal. I would recommend The Burrow, and I would HIGHLY recommend if you are vegetarian.
This place is amazing! Use to be called band ideas taqueria but has since changed. Still has great food with super fresh feeling ingredients
Some of the best vegetarian food I've had with generous portions! They have the best nachos I've had out of any restaurant Ive been to. I'm a huge fan of their burritos and the hibiscus lemonade.
A perfect place if you love vegetarian and Mexican food. They offer quesadilla, burritos, nachos, salads, and enchiladas in a wrap, gf, or in a bowl. The portions are big and filling. I had the Leona Gayle which was just okay. I didn't seem to taste the smoky sweet chipotle tofu nor did I see any tofu. It was mashed to the point that it looked like beige porridge. Not a tasty experience for me but the rest of the folks liked their choices. Parking can be a challenge. They offer dining inside and outside. Definitely a busy place.
Goat cheese baked burrito, eggs benny Average burrito just baked. You can skip it Eggs benny on cornbread is amazing! I love traditional benny on a muffin but you gotta get this! Avo of course is a big plus. Quality corn bread. Bigger than average serving size. Sides of potato and beans are average. Try it out!
On normal days, Bandidas is alright, a solid 6/10 (or 3/5 if we're going by stars). But on International Women's Day, EVERYONE should go to Bandidas and order as much as they can!! If you didn't already gather, I went to Bandidas on International Women's Day. Every year on March 8, they donate all their day's profits to different charities supporting women and girls, such as the Rape Crisis Centre or Native Women's Association of Canada. My coworker told me all about this and invited me to come along with her and her boyfriend. When we got to the restaurant, we had to wait about ten minutes but were seated promptly. I wasn't really sure what to expect because someone had said their food was quite bland. I ordered the Mexican roasted corn quesadillas with rice and beans, and I was pleasantly surprised! Good flavor, quite filling, and not too bland. I tried a bite of my coworker's enchilada, and I thought the mole sauce was a little shallow - it had all the nice spices but it was lacking that depth and richness of flavor that mole should have. The report on the tacos was also that it was a little bland (and lacking meat). So on a normal day, maybe you can find better places to eat. But on March 8, don't even think about eating anywhere else!

It had been awhile since I visited The Burrow! We went there on a Friday evening around dinner time and it was kinda empty. I remember they use to have a wait before. The food is as good as always! For drinks I got their horchata with almond milk - SOOO good! The cinnamon on top made all the different and it was perfect for a hot summer day. For food - :: I had their sticky garlic wings, it was my first time having it. I loved it soo much! I'm not vegan, but I kind of liked it more than chicken wings... the flavours were so good. :: Got their quesadilla which came with rice and beans. Loved it! Recently visited the vegan Mexican restaurant on commercial drive. First time been to a vegan Mexican restaurant. Ambience is good and Mexican food was delicious. My favorite was Hampton nachos. Everything was in good quantity. 10 wings were unique in flavor. Enchiladas had good flavour and quite heavy. Quesadillas were tasty as well. Did not like the French toast.- it was bit hard bread. Service was slow. Had to wait for an hour for order to arrive. Overall a good experience for food but it's kind of a long wait on Sunday. read more
Vegan/vegetarian Mexican place on Commercial near 12th. Parking is available on the side streets. Inside looks pretty hipster. Dated wood interior and booths. There is a pretty nice looking mural on the far wall. Staff were friendly and hipster as well. No complaints. As mentioned above, the place is vegan/vegetarian only. No meat at all, other than beans. They honestly should've mentioned this somewhere (signage) on the exterior, as this was not what my buddy and I were looking for. We left hungry. We did have beers though. Those were tasty. read more

We were excited to try vegetarian Mexican and headed to The Burrow for a weekend brunch. The place has a lot of seating and it was mostly full. There is a mural on the walls and dining is casual. The menu was extensive and we decided to go with some drinks, chips and salsa and ordered the mains as well all at once. The chips and salsa came in first and loved the spicy habenero sauce! The chips were noticeably tasty. Halfway through we inquired about our drinks and were told they're on their way. The mains arrived and still no sign of the drinks so we asked to cancel them. The server asked when we had ordered them and got back with an ipad and saying we ordered the drinks later. Guessing the order for the drinks was not actually placed by our server initially but later when we inquired. In general it was tough getting a servers attention as they were under staffed. Both the enchiladas (lentils and walnut) and eggs benny had good flavor and plenty in quantity. But the service dampened our excitement and overall experience. read more

All day Mexican-inspired brunch? WHY HAVEN'T I COME HERE SOONER?! Vegetarian, cheap, delicious, flavourful, and hefty portions... this spot is my new favourite in town. I came here for a brunch meeting and I was so into my meal that I couldn't even talk. We came in for a later brunch around 2:30pm on a Wednesday, so it wasn't busy whatsoever. We were able to get a cozy table right by the window and our server dropped off water right away. Everything on their menu looks extremely delicious. They have all your regular brunch items but with a Mexican twist. They also have delicious looking quesadillas, burritos, tacos, enchiladas and nachos. If you know me, you know it was probably impossible for me to choose what I wanted to eat from this menu - I wanted EVERYTHING! The server came over 3 separate times asking if we were ready, but I was just so torn. To drink, I ordered the bloody mary and to eat, I finally decided on the Hick's Benny with the ranchero sauce on one side and the verde sauce on the other. I requested extra sweet potato/potato hash instead of the purple cabbage and that didn't seem to be a problem. Within 10 minutes of ordering our food came out. I was impressed with how quickly we got our plates! The Hick's Benny is a game changer. Instead of regular English muffins, it's served on their housemade corn bread and it is SO GOOD. I would come back again just to order this a million times over... but I won't because I need to try everything else on their menu - their burritos, tacos, and nachos are up next! Got tacos, guacamole and chips, and a beer. The environment is lovely and we got seated fairly quickly being a Friday night. Lovely staff and good food. Great for a date or get together with your friends. It's tiny but loud but you can still hear everyone and have a normal conversation. The guacamole was excellent! read more

Bandidas Taqueria is a Mexican Vegetarian Restaurant. It has served all-day breakfast and local beers. My friends invited me to this place before Christmas last year. Both of us had such a great experience at Bandidas. Location Bandidas Taqueria is located in Vancouver right on Commercial Dr., which is 5 mins walking distance to Commercial Skytrain Station. There are so many restaurants around. Bandidas Taqueria is one of them serving up vegetarian Mexican - inspired cuisine. Interior Design There are lots of tables inside Bandidas Taqueria for different groups of people. People who come to this restaurant are first to come and first serve. Inside the restaurant, the restaurant space is quiet of an open and airy casual dining room. My friend and I had dinner at Bandidas Taqueria. Actually, this place is quite of bit busy. It's a welcoming place and the servers are very nice and friendly. Food Because of a vegetarian Mexican restaurant, my friend and I have ordered two traditional dishes for ourselves. My friend had Ronny Russell Burrito and I had Horace "Lefty" burrito in a bowl (no wrap) plus Guacamole. Both of our food came out of the kitchen fast and in a huge portion of food. Ronny Russell Burrito is made by roasted yams, guacamole, black beans, salsa verde, purple cabbage, and toasted pumpkin seeds. Horace "lefty" is including spicy corm mix, pinto beans, fresh jalapeños, cheese, fresh-cut tomato salsa, sour cream, and crushed tortilla chips. Both of the dishes are so tasty and delicious. Price The price of food is not expensive. Both dishes are around $11.50 dollars. It's just right for the amount of food they serve. With this portion and quality of the food, I highly recommend this place! Definitely, we will come back to Bandidas Taqueria. read more

I was looking to get some Taco or Burritos near Commercial, and then I found Bandidas Tequeria yesterday afternoon. It was clean and casual place to hangout with friends. I'm not vegetarian, but the food was great. I ordered Burrito in A Bowl ($9.75 it said gluten free, but it just came in a bowl. NOT a gluten free bowl!) with Ronny Russell, it had roasted sweet potatoes, avocado and other fillings. Food was fantastic I must say. Besides the portion was HUGE and I took the leftover for lunch at work. Fast and friendly service. 2 washrooms are available on the right side next to the kitchen, and one on the left. read more

We came here on a cold and rainy day for lunch since we wanted some comfort food. We didn't know it was a vegetarian restaurant but we didn't have a problem with that! It was quite busy for a weekday afternoon but we were seated right away by warm and friendly staff. The restaurant is cute and cozy and they played music that set the vibe. Even though I do eat meat, I don't mind vegan/vegetarian places because there's always new options to try. The tofu in my Leona Gayle bowl was almost like ground beef or turkey. I was confused at first because of almost tasted and looked like meat! We left with our stomachs and hearts full. Will definitely be coming back to try a different bowl! Also to note, their homemade hot sauce is sooo good; and spicy! read more

What I like about this place is the brunch! Amaizing plates, delicious and cheap! For me the Benedictine eggs with the cornbread are the best of the brunch menu. One warning Nachos are hugeeeeee! read more
Not a vegetarian and I thought the food was delicious! I got the enchiladas with salsa verde, roasted butternut squash and a side of salad for only $12. Great value and super filling! No air conditioning, but there are fans... It was pretty uncomfortable at first since we came on a day where the temperature was pretty much at 29/30 degrees, but it isn't too bad after a while and if you're sitting by the door I ordered the standard brunch breakfast that came with sweet corn bread (delicious), beans, yam/potato hash (slightly burned but crispy), and a delicious apple cabbage salad. I got my eggs over medium. I was pretty impressed by how filling and tasty everything was! I ended up taking the rest of the corn bread for a snack for later, and the to-go bag was made out of plant cellulose and was completely compostable. This place knows how to do it environmentally friendly! I'll defs be back next time to try their tacos! Adding this place to my go-to vegetarian list read more

Cool little place but THERE IS NO MEAT! So if you're craving for meat filled tacos and burritos, you are out of luck my amigo. When you walk inside, a waiter/waitress guides you to your seat and grabs a mason jar of water nearby the entrance, certainly not something I have seen before. Let's get into it, I ate the stuffed mushrooms appetizer and a baked burrito with bobcat filling. Flavours for the mushroom were heavenly. The garlic flavours can be overpowering, so if you are don't want garlic breath, you should probably avoid this dish or ask to adjust the amounts. The baked burrito was okay. It has a nice assortment of ingredients wrapped up inside, but maybe I'm just a huge fan of the meaty textures and juices that mesh well together. Many beans and purple cabbage are in the burrito and as you cut away, it mixes with the sauces and the texture softens. The acidity could be balanced with some hot sauce, which I decided not to use because my stomach was on the weak side today. Staff were nice and polite. I wouldn't mind visiting again to try other items on the menu. Again, THERE IS NO MEAT HERE. Veggies are healthy though, so no harm there! read more
Mexican-brunch-vegan food all jumbled into one! Bandidas does fusion incredibly well. In a "wow, this is amazeballs," kind of way, not a "WTF am I eating??" type of way. They're very accommodating ~ gluten-free/vegan/vegetarian/dairy-free/nut-free, everyone is taken into account here. Yay for inclusive environments! Not only that, the portions are huge as well. My french toast was enough for two meals (and I'm not one to leave bread on my plate, that's how huge it was.) The vegan nachos (with daiya cheese,) were delicious as well, very comparable to the Wallflower! Funky, colourful decor...I especially loved the hand-painted mural on the wall! Cool joint for brunch, their bennies seem to be most popular. The sweet cornbread, with two types of vegetarian bennies (you can try one of each: I think there was a guac one & a salsa one), with a side of sweet potatoes & some beans(meh). The huevos rancheros were good too, but not as good as the bennies :) If you happen to be in the area this seems like a great spot. Coffee was good, service was quick. If you're lucky with the weather you'll get a good view of the mountains walking to the spot! The seating was a bit cramped, & their was an unfortunate cold draft from somewhere that couldn't be controlled by the staff. read more
