Lemons with the peel mixed in the salad. Really??!!
    Mori N.

Yah....No....Don't. I got the salad with Beef. I don't even remember the name and it doesn't matter. 17 bucks it cost me. This is what I got: Greens that were a day away from being rotten. Veggies that tasted leftover. Miso dressing that had gone bad and curdled. Lemon chunks that had not been peeled mixed in with the salad (see pics). "Here, have a lemon like you would an apple!" I stopped eating after two bites, because honestly I didn't want to risk getting food poisoning. With that kind of a start I didn't trust the kitchen to have kept the beef at appropriate standards, because the mistakes were so basic. When I first walked in.....the place seemed dark and dingy and their buffet of ingredients did set off alarm clocks as it didn't seem fresh and I guess I should've walked out. A massive disappointment and probably the worst salad I (attempted) to have.

    Window seats are the best!

Overall Rating 3.5/5 The high ceilings give the space an airy and open feel, while the green vines add a natural touch of beauty. It was definitely not a ghost town at 12:20pm on a Monday! It's a great place for a quick lunch alone, coworkers or with friends. Having late hours makes it a good spot for late-night eats. Food: Orange BBQ Chicken Wings ($15) - Rating: 6.5/10. The chicken wings were heavily breaded and not as crispy as expected. The breading absorbed the orange BBQ flavor, which made it quite prominent. The orange flavor is familiar, akin to orange chicken from Panda Express, but much more rich and sweet in taste - not something everyone likes. Spicy Mexican Burrito ($13.5) - Rating: 8/10. The burrito wasn't spicy, but the ingredients were fresh, and the tortilla was soft and thin yet substantial enough to hold all the fillings. It was delightful to see the vibrant colors inside after cutting it in half. 2 Churros ($7.75) - Rating: 7/10. The churros were very crispy and too dense, but the whipped cream and chocolate sauce on the side balanced it out. They would have been more enjoyable if they were a little fluffier, chewier and softer inside.

    Hungry guys $8.90 bowl.

Hungry Guys is one of my favourite alternatives to Chipotle to get Mexican-inspired bowls. Like Chipotle, you choose your grains and protein topped off with veggies. The portions here are a bit bigger than what you get at Chipotle. My favourite protein on the menu is grilled chicken. I am also continuously surprised how cheap the bowls are, at $8.90 before tax, I think the prices might have gone down since their opening a few years ago. It is rare to find a restaurant the offers both quality and quantity at this price especially in the downtown core. I will be coming to Hungry Guys more often for my post-gym (YMCA) meals.

Specialty burrito has WAY more stuff in it compared to the build your own. Burrito on left has "extra meat"

Ordered through Skip. 3 items - 2 burritos and a bowl. They got the bowl completely wrong, not the worst thing ever, but not what we wanted. Good flavours and fresh ingredients though. I'll give them another go later.

Wish they would practice what they preach.

Hungry Guys Kitchen is basically like Tractor or Freshii; They have menu items but also a build your own Burrito / Salad / Bowl option. Pro-tip, if you order the build your own salad, one of the base options is rice, so you can basically still get a build your own bowl for about $2 cheaper (before add-ons like protein or guac). The Good: Lots of options! Vegan and Vegetarian friendly, with meat options for those who want that instead. Lots of topping choices and dressings (all but 2 are vegan, so rest assured, we plant-based foodies will have a dressed salad!). Portions were pretty good. Got a lot of bang for my buck! Me and my friend went around 7:30 and there was no line, so we got our food quickly, though I can't imagine this place gets as busy as chipotle or anything. I can't see people waiting too long regardless of time, but I can't say for sure, as I have only been here once. The staff was friendly, and had no problem with me bringing in my own large bowl to use instead of their disposable ones. The Bad: For a company that explicitly says on its website (pictured) that sustainability is important to them, I was disappointed that there weren't reusable bowl / cutlery options for people who chose to eat in store, especially since they ENCOURAGE people to stick around on their site. The salad my friend got came in a plastic bowl. Supposedly it can be recycled. Did you know containers need to be rinsed / washed before they can be reycled? Hopefully everyone does this at home already, but it's near impossible when eating out. No-one is washing these containers before they're tossed away, and no-one at the recycling plant is going to take the time to clean them, so they will probably be thrown out. The cutlery is also supposedly biodegradable. Fun fact about bio-plastics; they need to be heated to temperatures of 140 degrees f to break down, and Vancouver doesn't currently have a system in place reserved for bio-plastics. They can't be recycled, because they would ruin the quality of the other recycled materials, so they must go in the trash. I would love to see Hungry Guys Kitchen bring some eco-friendly, washable plates/bowls/cutlery to their store, so people eating in can enjoy a waste-free meal. At the very least, maybe they could eliminate the plastic bowls and switch to the same type of compostable dish as the burrito bowl comes in, the kind of larger bowls Freshii has. Would also love to see them switch to bamboo cutlery as well, a truly biodegradable option. Here is my issue with Hungry Guys: they talk the talk but don't walk the walk. While their materials are currently "recyclable" and compostable (note: their website even uses the word reusable, so I would like to ask, where???), and people have fooled themselves into believing this is a viable option when trying to be eco-friendly, the truth is, there is still a ton of energy that goes into actually making and breaking down these items. They don't materialize out of thin air. Even these biodegradable bowls, which go back to the earth use energy to make. The best option for sustainability will ALWAYS be to have reusable dishes and utensils available.

It would have been nice to have some Arabic or oriental music playing in the background. Maybe also some rose saboun in the bathroom would have been nice!! (Ok I'm overdoing it...just sharing my two cents!) Overall food was good, but I think service could be improved. We ordered the cold mezze sampler platter for 3, and we were a party of 4 adults. The portion was good and everything was delicious. I'm GF, and they serve the dips with lettuce for free (or you can order a side of cucumbers for a small charge). The presentation was lovely. The only thing I didn't like was after a while all of the dips just get mushed together and you kinda don't know what you're eating anymore...Also we all loved the jalapeno hummus the most. We asked for arak and it wasn't served the right way...Our server forgot to bring an extra empty glass so that we can mix the arak with water (in the proportional way that we'd like). I asked for an empty glass for mixing in addition to another drinking glass because mine was broken (crack was big and the glass should be chucked out). Server forgot to get an empty mixing glass. We ordered a taouk pita wrap, but we got served a taouk platter instead. Anyhow she just wasn't very attentive. The mixed grill mezze platter was mostly yummy except for the kafta. All of us at the table couldn't have more than a bite of it. The meat was undercooked, and the taste of the lamb was too strong and off. Definitely didn't taste like the kafta we know. The chicken and the cauliflower were delicious. I'd be tempted to try Nuba at another location and sample other things off their menu. Happy eating!!

I made reservations for us for 4pm, so as to take advantage of their Happy Hour. We went earlier today (a Wednesday) and the place was empty at 4pm. I think it fills up later, for dinner. (I still advise making reservations as you never really know if it's going to be busy). Right off the bat, we were blown away by the interior. It is gorgeous! Small, but gorgeous. The murals, the chandeliers, the bar....and omg, the bathrooms. If you visit, you MUST check out the bathrooms. They have the most fabulous sinks I have ever seen. They didn't have a large selection of HH offerings, unfortunately, but what they did have was amazingly good. My friends who were extremely knowledgeable on Indian cuisine ordered for us, and we shared 3 different small plates (tandoori vegetable momos, cochin cauliflower bites, and some sort of delicious fried onions), and 2 desserts (soan paid malai khwaab, and foxtail millet pudding). And just...wow, everything was SO SO good. The three appetizers were so flavorful and the desserts, unlike anything I've ever had before and simply delicious. We also had drinks (but, of course!). One friend had a mango lassi which she loved, one friend had a high ball which she loved, and I had a mango mojito which I loved. (See a pattern? lol). All was great. We came around 4pm and had a couple of drinks from the regular menu plus the Kerala pepper chicken the momos and the veggie fritters. Again, the food is very good and the prices were reasonable. I will have to come back late night to see if the happy hour issue is rectified at that time as I see the menu is still the exact same as before. ********* Came here after hearing about the recent celebrity visit. First of all, the food is very good the portions are also decent and the prices are reasonable. I would have liked to have come back here for the lunch special as it's walking distance for me, but my visit left a bad taste in my mouth, which I will detail below. The dishes are inventive. There are the usual suspects, but also some that aren't often see at most Indian restaurants in Metro Van. The staff is also very attentive and friendly. The cocktails are pricey, but interesting. The decor is trendy. The bathrooms have an interesting sink feature that I have not seen before. If you're into social media, there's definitely some photo opportunities here. The service is a bit weird as there isn't really a dedicated server for the table. So, basically, we had all sorts of different people taking our drink and food orders, bringing us food, refilling our water and checking in on us. On the plus, it means that you are checked on a lot. On the minus, it is a bit inconsistent because there isn't one single person who knows what is going on with the table, but more a revolving door. For instance, one staff member came and took our drink order, however the wrong drink ended up being made and brought to me by the bartender, even though the drinks had been extensively discussed with the original server. So there's definitely communication issues. My biggest gripe with this restaurant is that we were denied ordering from the happy hour menu by the manager. I did not want to argue about it at the time as the bartender was told in front of us to deny us the happy hour menu, from which we wanted to order some cocktails. At this point, we had already ordered several menu items (in fact so many that the server had advised us we had more than enough food and that we did not need to order an additional dish we were considering) plus full priced cocktails. So it's not like they weren't making money off our table. The reason we were given, which I believe was told to the bartender (to be clear, I do not believe the bartender was at fault, but simply the messenger in this situation), was that the happy hour was only a summer thing. Again, we visually saw the manager instruct the bartender to tell us these things -- they were literally standing in front of our table, less than 5 feet away. This was not only unprofessional, but I found it incredibly dishonest. It was mid-December when we were at the restaurant, 3.5 months after summer had ended. The happy hour menu is literally the first page in the menu book. If a restaurant doesn't want to honour their own happy hour menu, it costs very little to simply reprint the happy hour menu, remove that page completely, or cross it out, if they really want to be cheap. At minimum, they should have honoured the menu for patrons that they gave it to and then rectified the situation for future. For this reason, I cannot recommend this establishment even though the food was very good and I would have otherwise come back and supported this small business.
