Incredible! Hard to imagine but the food tastes better than it looks. My boyfriend and I split the nachos and spicy rice bowl with chicken and added avocado. Sorry we were too hungry to remember to take a pic of the nachos but trust, they slap hard! I doubt there is anything that isn't amazing on their menu. Our server was super cool and attentive, and he helped us with all our questions and added to the positive experience. They also have these really pretty light and plant decorations around the restaurant that make it perfect for a late lunch or early dinner. Yah....No....Don't. I got the salad with Beef. I don't even remember the name and it doesn't matter. 17 bucks it cost me. This is what I got: Greens that were a day away from being rotten. Veggies that tasted leftover. Miso dressing that had gone bad and curdled. Lemon chunks that had not been peeled mixed in with the salad (see pics). "Here, have a lemon like you would an apple!" I stopped eating after two bites, because honestly I didn't want to risk getting food poisoning. With that kind of a start I didn't trust the kitchen to have kept the beef at appropriate standards, because the mistakes were so basic. When I first walked in.....the place seemed dark and dingy and their buffet of ingredients did set off alarm clocks as it didn't seem fresh and I guess I should've walked out. The orange flavor is familiar, akin to orange chicken from Panda Express, but much more rich and sweet in taste - not something everyone likes. Spicy Mexican Burrito ($13.5) - Rating: 8/10. The burrito wasn't spicy, but the ingredients were fresh, and the tortilla was soft and thin yet substantial enough to hold all the fillings. The churros were very crispy and too dense, but the whipped cream and chocolate sauce on the side balanced it out. I love the avocado taco salad here- it's my favorite. Even when they are busy, you don't have to wait for long to get your food. You just wait patiently in line for your food and then you can sit down in a comfortable seat and enjoy. There is always good music and a good vibe in this place, so it's a great place to unwind and enjoy some healthy food. read more

Strange name, great salads and soup! I was introduced to Hungry Guys Kitchen a few months ago by a friend. I've been back since a couple dozen times. Though their location is not in the best spot on Granville, they have a really large airy space. The upstairs dining area in particular offers a nice perspective of the counter and tables down below, though it's not always open. I think the lineups here at lunchtime on weekdays is testament to the quality and price point of HGK. In my opinion, they offer a much better product and experience than Chipotle. Though I've never tried their burritos, I can easily recommend their salads and soups. They have four salads you can order off the menu - my favourite being the avocado taco salad. You can also choose to make your own salad with infinite combinations, which I've had pretty good luck with as well. Some of the options include white/brown rice, quinoa, mixed greens, chicken, chickpeas, apples, dried cranberries, basil, mint, goat cheese, etc etc. As you might expect they have several choices of salad dressings to complete your meal. Lastly, their Chipotle chicken soup is excellent, and if you're not starving, can be a meal on its own. In terms of price, the menu salads are around $9-$11 and the create-your-owns are $6.50 and up. The burritos are in the $9 range and the soups are $5 each. They also have hummus and chips for $3, a number of homemade ice creams ($6-$7)and large oatmeal-chocolate chip cookies for around $2. The cookies are to die for. The staff are usually in a good mood and happy to be here, which is another reason I keep coming back. If you haven't already given HGK a try, I would highly recommend it for a healthy, whole-foods meal at an excellent price. read more

Hungry Guys is one of my favourite alternatives to Chipotle to get Mexican-inspired bowls. Like Chipotle, you choose your grains and protein topped off with veggies. The portions here are a bit bigger than what you get at Chipotle. My favourite protein on the menu is grilled chicken. I am also continuously surprised how cheap the bowls are, at $8.90 before tax, I think the prices might have gone down since their opening a few years ago. It is rare to find a restaurant the offers both quality and quantity at this price especially in the downtown core. I will be coming to Hungry Guys more often for my post-gym (YMCA) meals. read more

Hungry Guys Kitchen is basically like Tractor or Freshii; They have menu items but also a build your own Burrito / Salad / Bowl option. Pro-tip, if you order the build your own salad, one of the base options is rice, so you can basically still get a build your own bowl for about $2 cheaper (before add-ons like protein or guac). The Good: Lots of options! Vegan and Vegetarian friendly, with meat options for those who want that instead. Lots of topping choices and dressings (all but 2 are vegan, so rest assured, we plant-based foodies will have a dressed salad!). Portions were pretty good. Got a lot of bang for my buck! Me and my friend went around 7:30 and there was no line, so we got our food quickly, though I can't imagine this place gets as busy as chipotle or anything. I can't see people waiting too long regardless of time, but I can't say for sure, as I have only been here once. The staff was friendly, and had no problem with me bringing in my own large bowl to use instead of their disposable ones. The Bad: For a company that explicitly says on its website (pictured) that sustainability is important to them, I was disappointed that there weren't reusable bowl / cutlery options for people who chose to eat in store, especially since they ENCOURAGE people to stick around on their site. The salad my friend got came in a plastic bowl. Supposedly it can be recycled. Did you know containers need to be rinsed / washed before they can be reycled? Hopefully everyone does this at home already, but it's near impossible when eating out. No-one is washing these containers before they're tossed away, and no-one at the recycling plant is going to take the time to clean them, so they will probably be thrown out. The cutlery is also supposedly biodegradable. Fun fact about bio-plastics; they need to be heated to temperatures of 140 degrees f to break down, and Vancouver doesn't currently have a system in place reserved for bio-plastics. They can't be recycled, because they would ruin the quality of the other recycled materials, so they must go in the trash. I would love to see Hungry Guys Kitchen bring some eco-friendly, washable plates/bowls/cutlery to their store, so people eating in can enjoy a waste-free meal. At the very least, maybe they could eliminate the plastic bowls and switch to the same type of compostable dish as the burrito bowl comes in, the kind of larger bowls Freshii has. Would also love to see them switch to bamboo cutlery as well, a truly biodegradable option. Here is my issue with Hungry Guys: they talk the talk but don't walk the walk. While their materials are currently "recyclable" and compostable (note: their website even uses the word reusable, so I would like to ask, where???), and people have fooled themselves into believing this is a viable option when trying to be eco-friendly, the truth is, there is still a ton of energy that goes into actually making and breaking down these items. They don't materialize out of thin air. Even these biodegradable bowls, which go back to the earth use energy to make. The best option for sustainability will ALWAYS be to have reusable dishes and utensils available. read more

Like a combination of Chipotle and build-your-own salad joint, HGK allows for a ton of flexibility that we loved. The ingredients were fresh/reasonable quality, dressings were good. The atmosphere was cool, and it's nice that they sell alcohol (but we didn't try any). We tried their cucumber + jalapeno lemonade which was unique and delicious (sweet and spicy). I've been here more than 10 times now and there hasn't been any issue at all. Staff has been amazing every visit and their food is always fresh and healthy. I really like that I always walk in in a clean and cozy environment. I always get a bowl and the staff always gives an ample amount of food. I like that they have spiciness level options as I don't like anything super spicy. I love how healthy and full I feel without that heavy feeling in my stomach after my meal. This is literally the same thing as chipotle but somehow it's better! Since I can't consume dairy I don't get sour cream and cheese which ruins the taste at chipotle but here it tastes so much different somehow! I think because of how fresh the salsa makes it. It's not easy finding an affordable and healthy option in Downtown Vancouver while not compromising on taste. My friend and I came on a weekday afternoon and the restaurant was busy, however, the line moved quick. The restaurant has seating downstairs and upstairs so you can eat in. The style of the ordering process is similar to Subway's. You order at the front and you follow the food attendant down the "assembly line" until you reach the cashier at the end. I ordered an Avocado Taco Salad for around $10.50 excluding tax and portion was generous. It was so jampacked that it was hard to reach the ingredients at the bottom of the bowl. I liked how fresh all the ingredients were and you can see them grilling meat in the back so ingredients should be fresh. My salad had cheese, cherry tomatoes, taco chips, grilled chicken, avocado, and mixed vegetables. I really enjoyed the salad. However, I wished the ingredients were more incorporated because the avocado and chicken were deep down at the bottom of the bowl and hard to get to. My taco chips also got a little soggy. My friend built his own salad bowl and although portion looks a little smaller, he equally enjoyed his dish. I only wished the restaurant uses glass cups instead of plastic cups for sit in diners. This is one place in downtown that I will definitely return to if I want a healthy lunch! read more

Hungry Guys Kitchen is a bright, clean oasis of a new place (almost 1 year old) on rather dilapidated downtown Granville. Simple food, good price, tastes fresh, good value/portion for money if you're just looking for a filling meal that doesn't cost too much. Not really a good choice for the indecisive as you direct them to assemble your burrito or bowl, but with some nudging I convinced them to put together their recommendation. Just under $9 so after tax it was just over $9. And just one burrito is worth two burgers so you might just want to order one to share. read more

A solid 3.5 stars. Reasonably priced burritos ($8.89) and salad bowls (build your own salads start at $6.50 + $2-3 for protein) with really fresh ingredients. We had a pork carnita burrito with all the extra toppings including rice, beans, salsa verde, corn, lettuce, pico de gallo, sour cream, cheddar, and siracha (they're free, except for guac). Good size and fresh toppings but my only complaint was the tortilla wrap was too chewy/soggy. We also had the build your own salad bowl where you can choose up to 2 bases (leafy greens/rice/quinoa), add protein (+$2.30 for chicken), and up to 4 free toppings (we added red beets, broccoli, pumpkin seeds, and cucumber). Good size and fresh toppings (the red beets are legit and not from a can/jar) but the salad was waaaaaay over-dressed and too sour (coming from a girl that drinks pickle juice straight outta the jar). Hungry Guys' salads are cheaper than Hub Bub's - and they're about the same size. I'll probably be back, tasted and felt relatively healthy even though I was eating a burrito. read more

What a wonderful change from the regular lunch spots. Mega salads! This is good for two lunches for me. They pack all this great goodness into this normal size bowl but you get so much! The only downfall is a personal preference of having too much dressing. I tired the mi vida salad which was super tasty and packed with greatness. The taco salad is apparently pretty popular and good. They also have burrito bowls which looked tasty as well. It's similar to a Subway line.. you see them assort your salad or bowl in front of you so you could add or change ingredients. Branding makes absolutely no sense, why would you name a healthy food place "Hungry Guys!?" That being said, the food is great, quality is fresh, and the service is fantastic. Lots of great healthy choices, from salads to wraps, a healthier alternative to chipotle!
