This is actually one of the best Indian restaurants I've tried so far in vancouver. First of all the ambiance is vibey and classy, there's lots of nice window seating and pretty decor. The staff are so incredibly friendly and attentive and made some great recommendations. My all time favorite dish was the Malabar fish curry, the coconut base really hit the spot for me. The motichoor cheesecake also 10/10, the most unique and delicious cheesecake I've had in a while, layered with crumbly bits and pistachio. They're participating in dine out vancouver with a $35 3 course menu, one of the more affordable dinner options with quality well portioned dishes, great options, and upscale vibes. Indian Oven has officially become my go-to spot for Indian cuisine. We ordered the Butter Chicken, Chicken Tikka Masala, and a basket of Garlic Naan, and everything was perfection. The curries were incredibly rich, creamy, and packed with deep flavor without being overly oily. The chicken was tender and melted in my mouth, and the naan was fresh, pillowy, and perfect for wiping the bowl clean. The service was also prompt and attentive. I've ordered from Indian Oven many times, but tonight's experience was deeply disappointing. Portions were smaller, and dishes seemed padded to fill containers that were only ¾ full. The butter chicken had good flavour but half the usual chicken. The palak paneer was bland -- no coriander, cumin, or garam masala -- just puréed spinach with barely any paneer. The vegetable jalfrezi, normally full of peppers, cauliflower, and onions, was mostly large chunks of potato to fill up the container, in a sweet tomato sauce, again lacking spice and depth. Times are tough for everyone, but when you spend over $100, you expect the same quality as before. Offering a "free dish next time" isn't enough. Sadly, I won't be ordering again. There are far better options nearby like Vij's and Sula. read more

Family run businesses always have a soft spot in my heart. I've been working with my fam since I was 10. AND that's many MOONS ago. This place has been in Kitts forever and I have to say, it's one of the BEST Indian Food Experience that I've had in Vancouver. This chef owned family business deserves a visit. Located on top of a popular pizza joint, the place has a great outdoor patio - seats up to 20, and a large inside dining area. The food, let's say pretty eye opening. A long time ago, I had a fish curry and it left me with nothing but bad taste so I never ordered that dish anywhere again. BUT here, it was excellent! I couldn't believe that for over decades, I just thought that Indians couldn't do fish right. I'm admitting ignorance here! Chef Arvind has 30 years experience in the kitchen. Each dish scoops out Home on a Spoon. It's his family recipes and his training that shines through and he is very proud of the fine cuisine that he serves. AND we were happy have enjoyed every dish. Delicious curries! Visited here for a tasting plate and got Gol gappa, Tandoori soya, Daal makhani, Mango chicken, Kashmiri pulao, & Spinach paneer naan. I really loved the Mango chicken, it was refreshing, sweet, and I liked how I could really taste that they use real mango in it! I also really enjoyed the Kashmiri pulao (a rice with dried fruits, saffron and fresh fruits)- it had raisins in my rice and it was a cool surprise! I enjoyed it! Visited 7pm on a friday. The food was served piping hot. The servers were very professional, friendly and efficient. We ordered the butter chicken and a veg korma. The butter chicken was pretty good, korma was a bit oily. Naan was thin. Spice wasnt super fresh. Nothing really knocked our socks off. This isnt inspired food but the hot spicy butter chicken might make me return on a rainy winter day. read more

Solid Indian place in the Kitsilano area. This place is located upstairs. Parking is available on the side streets. The interior is quite ornate, with fancy wood decorations (trim?) running the length of the walls. There is a N facing patio as well for those who prefer eating outside. Staff were friendly. As a free appetizer they provide papadam with a green chutney. Definitely hit the spot. Nice and crisp. Special mention. Can't remember which dishes buddy and I had. One was chicken and one was lamb. Both were seriously tasty. Buddy and I asked them to crank the spiciness level to maximum. The food ended up medium spicy, but the waitress asked us if we wanted some green chili on the side. This is the way to go. The chilis add some really nice heat when mixed in with the sauce. The garlic naan was hot and fluffy and not too greasy, which was pleasant. Great for wiping up all that sauce. Pricing was reasonable and we left happy. Will definitely be back at some point. Recommended. read more

This place hands down has the best nan in town. Fresh out of the stove/ oven (whatever they used to cook it), soft like a pillow and crispy on the bottom. We were planning to get the rotti or pratha and I'm so glad our server strongly recommended that we try their nan bread. We just got the plain one and I loved it. For mains, we got Aloo Gobi and Bhuna Gosht - a vegetarian and a lamb dish. Both were delicious. Good picks even though I can probably count all the times I've been to an Indian restaurant with all the fingers I got! I didn't find either of them spicy at all. Either I've built up my spicy tolerance over the years or they gave us mild assuming we're newbies because how long it took us to study the menu, haha! The Aloo Gobi was a cauliflower and potato cooked in onion and garlic dish. The Bhuna Gosht was lamb pulled of the skewer and cooked with tomato, onion and green pepper. We were expecting the former to come with sauce and the latter to be dry but to our surprise, it came out to be the opposite. We also got an order of basmati rice. All in all, it was a perfect meal that just hit the right spot with a spoonful of extra per dish. 10/10 would come back again. The service was also great. The server was polite and attentive. Was in town for an event on my birthday and went looking for lunch. Found this hidden gem and had a great meal. The rice was light and fluffy, the main dish was perfectly spiced for me and very filling. When they learned it was my B-day, I was served a sweet desert on the House. We ordered delivery from Indian Oven this evening and were delighted with our food. The lamb korma and chicken vindaloo were excellent -- meat was savoury and tender and the sauces were delicious. The basmati rice with peas was cooked to perfection and made a great base for the sauces from the lamb and chicken. "Vindalicious!" As an Indian food lover, I've eaten my share of Indian food in many different cities. Decided to pop in this place and to my delight, the staff was extremely courteous and took pride in the quality and preparation of their food. The sauces are all made in house and we decided on the chicken Vindaloo and "Indian style" Chow Mein noodles. The menu section of "Chinese food with an Indian twist" was unique and exceeded my wife's expectations, who is from Hong Kong, and respects noodles as a sacred national dish! A friend and I have been going to Indian Oven for years. It has recently changed hands and so we went not knowing what to expect. We both were pleasantly surprised. The veggie pakoras were arguably the best I've ever had.....crispy and not doughy ( as some places serve them ). Our only complaint was the Bartha, which had been one of our favourites previously. Too salty, and with something which made it too tart. ...at least for our taste. However we told the server and not only did they take it off our bill but they brought us a sample of another eggplant dish ( which we would definitely order next time ). My review is for take out only, but I want to try inside one day soon ;P I like to think I have a pretty decent palate for authentic Indian food, having lived in North Delta previously and enjoying homemade authentic Indian. Of all the places I have ordered take out, IO is the best. The prices are fair, the food is flavorful and the naan bread is huge! I always order Butter Chicken, I know I am such a white girl, but it's so rich and creamy! My Butter Chicken from Indian Oven is always loaded with tons of chicken and they really do well with the requested spice level. My other usual favorite to order is Palak Paneer, and it's done perfectly. I have tried many other places and it's often way too runny, or there is not enough cheese; you will not go wrong at IO if you are a Palak Paneer fan. Did I mention the hugeness of the Naan bread?!?!? Two entrees, a large rice and three naan breads was about $35. Food arrived hot and packaged well. One of my biggest pet peeves is when you order food and it shows up with a greasy mess all over the bag; not from Indian Oven! read more

I visited Indian Oven with a group of friends. I didn't choose it, and I had no idea what to expect. It was a pleasant surprise to discover that they are actually pretty good! I actually enjoyed my meal here so much that the following week, I ordered food to be delivered at home so my husband could try it too. We had great, speedy service with the delivery. Anyway what I liked: - Chilli paneer (this was excellent) - Lamb Rogan Josh - Madrasi Chicken - Naan (especially the peshwari naan) - Pakora and samosas are both really good too. I also ordered a vegetable korma which was a bit flavourless - but my friend ordered the chicken version which looked a bit better. I'll stick to the spicy dishes next time. This place is not bad. My work place ordered from Indian Oven today and probably because there are 31 orders in total. The quality seems to be a bit lacking. The butter chicken was a bit watery and run down. Doesn't have a very strong flavor. I have sat down at the restaurant for dinner before and I remember their butter chicken being different. The portions are huge when its take out. but when you sit in, its the same as any other indian restuarants. read more

Yum yum yum!!!! Welcome to flavour town. We ordered takeout last weekend and it was absolutely delicious! We shared veggie samosa, rice, naan, lamb korma and paneer masala. The food came piping hot from Uber Eats and we were elated. The veggie samosas had an amazing aroma and I loved my lamb korma. Most of the time you get a dish like this and there isn't a ton of meat but this was packed with lamb! Probably around 15-20 chunks! The sauce was super creamy and the naan made for a great dipper. The portion sizes are awesome too for $. I spent $50 on everything but my lamb korma lasted me three meals. I would highly recommend Indian Oven and will definitely do it again. We dropped in on a Friday afternoon after a late flight (visiting Vancouver for the weekend) and ordered special combos, butter chicken and a paneer dish (I'm bad at remembering names). The food was very good, the butter chicken rich, sweet and gingery but not overly so. The naan was a generous serving and came out very hot. Service was great, polite and unobtrusive--our server came to check on how everything was, within a couple of minutes after setting down our meal. We always appreciate this touch. This is one of the better indian spots in the area. The interior is reasonably nice but a bit uncomfortably large, they have a really nice patio though. They have great prices on pints too! $4.50, they look like they're 20oz, and good beers as well! The food itself is very solid - their pakora is top notch, and we just had there Chana Saag and Smoked Eggplant and both were out of this world good. Not especially cheap, but reasonably priced. Two words. Butter Chicken. It would be unjust to try the restaurant and skip the butter chicken. They self proclaimed it as the best, and the one eyebrow raise becomes two for it's eye popping goodness. Perfect balance of sweet and spicy, tender chicken succulent till the last bite. Same goes for the panang paneer, amazing texture and plentiful amount of cheese, no scrimping on ingredients here. I like that the naan was a tad flaky and served warm straight from their tandoori oven. Indian Fries were too thick and dense for my liking, but well, why order fries in an Indian restaurant anyway? The roti, I find overpriced for two measly servings of what seemed to be copycat of their naan, flavour and texture-wise. Wait staff were great, and always seem happy to assist. The ambience clean and inviting with a patio great for two people. A few parking spots at the back available for diners when 4th Ave. gets packed on weekends. This place definitely delivers! Unquestionably, the worst dining experience of my life. Ordered over $100 in food, and was told that the order would take 45 minutes to execute and deliver. An hour later, I noted that a message had been left on my phone: the driver was waiting at the entrance to my building. I found it odd to have to pull on my togs and shoes and run downstairs on an expensive order, but was too hungry to raise objections. They had absconded with our order by the time I had reached the door, and not bothered to ring the doorbell. I contacted the restaurant, and was told that the driver had rang the doorbell, and called my number, but that we hadn't acknowledged his efforts. (Really?! We're starving, and invested all that money, and we've suddenly decided to play games with the delivery driver?). So begins the two-hour-long runaround, with the manager defending the delivery driver, and promises of reheating the order, and redelivery. After waiting at the door for half an hour for our food, I decided to call the restaurant for an update: the food wasn't coming. Although we live a few kilometers from the restaurant, our abode was now too far away, and they were too busy to deliver my order again. You're kidding...right?! Nope. Order cancelled, and I quickly rang Visa to confirm. Not surprisingly, Visa asked if the restaurant claimed that they were too busy to deliver my order, as they have evidently had past experiences with this restaurant. At no point in this whole nauseating debacle was there ANY semblance of contrition from the restaurant, or any attempts to make things good, as I was clearly being devious the whole time. Utterly horrific! The high star reviews are clearly shilled...or written by the gormless. DO NOT SPEND YOUR MONEY HERE! read more

Dear Diary, I discovered that India grill no longer delivers and that they have closed their location on fourth.. sigh. I have had a long affair with that place and I cant believe they just left me like that?? don't they know who I am? what we shared together.... the memories? So in my darkest hour like a shinning light above my head was the Indian Oven.. woohooo my salvation! I was reborn! alive with the fact I could have indian again in my hood! I think I am going to take it slow this time, I don't want to rush into anything because I am still hurt by my past so I ordered the butter chicken, pakooras, and some naan. That should do for now.
