I have ordered via door dash from here probably 4 times over the last year and a half and this place never disappoints! Its the perfect American Chinese food but has so many different dishes I still want to try. I think my favorites so far are the sweet and sour chicken, sweet soy chicken, chili garlic egg plant, dan-dan noodles, general tso's chicken, and ginger beef. We are planning on dinning in soon so we can try the xiao-long bao and some of their dim sum. Love love love this place! read more

We've been coming to Peaceful for years, but haven't reviewed this location as we mostly went to the now-closed E. 5th location. We've been to this place twice, and, while great, it doesn't seem as great as our memories of E. 5th. We did a pick-up order, and our order was ready exactly when requested. We got: -Dan Dan Noodles ($11.95 plus tax; made vegan by omitting the pork). I requested blade-shearing noodles, but they gave me hand-cutting noodles which aren't as good. Still, the sauce makes this dish, being peanut, slightly tangy, slightly sweet, with spinach, tofu, and crumbled peanuts. Very tasty and good value for $. 4/5 -Shitake Mushroom & Bok Choy and Tofu ($13.95 plus tax). Pretty standard dish but made well. The mushrooms, bok choy and deep fried tofu are cooked with plenty of garlic and in savoury brown sauce. Very pleasant. 3.5/5 -Potato rolls ($9.95 plus tax). A Peaceful classic, this is always good. You can 4 rolls in an order, with a filling of sliced potato and a smidgeon of hoi sin sauce to sweeten up a tad. Great food! Quick service. We came in right before closing and they helped us very quickly.

The service was abysmal. They were not accommodating whatsoever. They refused to provide any sweet sauce when the shrimp entree (which usually is sweet and spicy - but here had no sweetness). It also had way too many peanuts. My husband liked his beef with broccoli and the kids their potstickers, but we were very dissatisfied with the service over and over again. The gal just left our waters unfilled, did not bring the check or ask if we wanted leftover containers - which we had to get up and request (and which were charged $.50 each!). The bathrooms were filthy... like they had not been cleaned well in months. Overall, I was extremely disappointed and will not return. Also, they had no fortune cookies! Portions were average; taste was average. We appreciated the effort they made in bringing us their house-made chili oil (all of which we consumed), but it wasn't all that spicy. The restaurant is on W Broadway, which means you have to pay for metered parking unless you can find a residential spot off the main road. Comes with 8 pieces so great for sharing Beef stir fried noodles ($12.95) - I was a big fan of the noodles; they were delicious and had good wok hei (literally 'wok air'). I'm guessing they were made in-house, which was an unexpected plus. I didn't like the beef as much; it was a bit bland and overcooked. I expect soft and tender beef slices when I get any kind of beef noodle dish. Also the whole dish was drowning in oil Xiao long bao aka soup dumplings ($7.95) - okay but there was barely any soup in the dumpling Egg and tomato over rice ($12.95) - I didn't eat too much of this but my friend enjoyed it I like that they mark which dishes can be made vegetarian on their menu. Their menu is pretty good, lots of noodle options as well as rice dishes. I love how there are traditional dishes from different regions of China. I was so homesick looking at all the different 'small bites'. Braised beef hand pulled noodle soup 红烧牛肉手拉面 - Very flavorful broth and tender juicy beef chunks. Lots of noodles cooked a bit on the al dente side. Overall very good taste. Beef rolls 牛肉转并 - I loved this!! So crispy on the outside with tasty tender slices of beef on the inside. One might think 'Peaceful', what kind of a name is that? Well, if I had to guess, it's the feeling you have after your belly is full and mouth satisfied from a meal here. This was the original location (Correct me, if I am wrong), and I've re-visited with big gaps in-between. I've been to a few of their other locations as well, and I think this one still holds the crown as the best of the lot. Personally, I have never regretted eating here. Their lunch special doesn't do it justice. You must visit in a larger group and order from the menu. This kind of food is made for communal eating. Ordering individually is a lost cause. I've been eating here for several years, and I can't believe I haven't reviewed this place yet. Our latest trip brought outstanding food (as usual) and was pleasant. Two things keep me from going to five stars on this place that I love. First, it's a small and crowded space. As in the two men who talked (shouted?) non-stop on my left elbow while we were there--to the point that it was noticeably quieter when they left. And as in the two women on my right elbow who were having a deeply private discussion about how horrible the one's divorce was while the other was giving new-age relationship and marriage tips to her, all with no privacy in a conversation that just wasn't right for the venue. Second, they really need to work on cleanliness--especially in the grossly dirty bathrooms. But the food here is amazing and worth putting up with the other issues. Get a table in the front section if you can. It has a little less crowded feel than the tables on the side wall. We'll be back (again and again). Have been for years. read more

This L shaped restaurant can cater upto 50 people at a time. Sweet servers , clean dishes n delicious beef rolls are enough reasons for me to give it 4 stars. I ordered chilly chicken which was a disappointment as it was too dry n fried . They tried to make it as per my recommendation but still couldn't achieve the goal as i didn't wanted to be too demanding. You know it was the authentic Chinese chilly chicken as per them. First, a correction: this restaurant's Yelp info shows that it does not deliver, but in fact it does (one's order needs to be $40 or more, but then delivery is free, FYI). I was going to be in this area earlier today and I remembered all the great Yelp reviews for this restaurant. And I really REALLY wasn't in the mood to cook dinner tonight, so I decided I was going to try this place's dishes and see if it was worthy of all the hype. It was. Initially I placed the order online and, literally within two minutes of clicking the "send" button, a lady from the restaurant called me to confirm my order. Now THAT'S efficiency! (I opted to pay in store upon pick-up, so I didn't have to pay in advance. I liked that). When I got to the restaurant, I was a bit early so I waited there, using their free wifi to check emails on my phone. The interior was rather average: nondescript decor, medium sized, plain tables. I was impressed that it was so clean. The lady at the front counter and the guy who was serving diners were both pleasant and seemed to be running a tight ship there. I liked how they brought out another customer's take-out order within a few minutes, and mine a few minutes after that. I ordered two dishes (a chicken dish and a veggie and tofu dish). We got seated right away as a group of 3 on a Sunday night at 6pm. The layout of the restaurant reminds me of a bigger version of a "hole-in-the-wall" - the tables run all the way down this not too narrow hallway. We ordered their moo shu pork; you have to pay $4 extra for 6 crepes and totally worth it. Most restaurants give you thin crepes and a sauce to go with the moo shu, but the moo shu has great standalone flavor that it needed no sauce. And their crepes were the thicker version and had a really good chew to it. Loved my experience with this dish! They give you a generous amount of moo shu pork and their is a great crunch from the cabbage in it. We got garlic string beans as well and we liked how it wasn't overly salted. Lastly we got the pan fried pork buns - flavor was delicious and bottoms were definitely nice and crispy. Service was quick AND the food comes out piping hot! I called and ordered takeout for lunch. A server picked up the phone and took my order quickly. He said the food would be ready in about 10mins. It was quick enough! Comparing to a Japanese restaurant in the same neighbourhood, they asked me to wait for 20 mins. I ordered a bowl of beef noodles in soup. It was only $10.45 including tax. The price was reasonable. The portion was quite big. The beef was tendered and veggies were included as well. The noodles were the thick and chewy ones. I liked them. I would love to order other dishes and try something new next time. I had been to this restaurant for dinner with friends in the past. I tried other types of noodles and xiao long bao. Everything tasted great. The restaurant had many people who dined in or ordered takeout. This restaurant had been renovated the interior before. Now it is more comfortable. I remember seeing this restaurant on Diners Drive-in's and Dives, had 2 hours in Vancouver before leaving from the airport and decided to stop here for my last meal in BC. Ordered the beef noodle soup with hand shaved noodles and the xiao long bao (soup dumplings). These were both very good! The beef was tender and flavorful, and the noodles had a great texture. Loved the xiao long bao but warning that the soup inside the dumplings can be hot and it can squirt out, be careful! This is a challenging review. Most tasty and appealing Chinese food. Peaceful is all about freshly pulled and stretched noodles made in front of you like a Pizzaioli makes pizza dough. Peaceful is small...about 16 tables for 2 or 4 people. Unsuitable for larger groups. Service is fast. Puts fast food to shame. Server recommended Spicy Herb Salad (pic uploaded). Like other reviewers, loved the delicious julienned jalapenos, smoked tofu, and cilantro in a light soy sauce. Also enjoyed the shredded pork, cabbage, and green onion mixed with noodles (pic uploaded). Total cost was $29 with one Yanjing Beer (only beer offered...it is light), including tax and tip. The Big However: Dirty menu was first sign. Peaceful is so crowded that they use the restrooms to store cooking oil next to the toilet (pic uploaded), and cooking pots stored there as well. Yuk. I finally had a chance to try the Peaceful Restaurant on the West Broadway location and I think I prefer the one on Davie. I know this is the original and it's the one featured on DDD, but it's a lot more narrow. I just stared at my husband and the wall behind him for an hour. Other than that, the food was still great. The Beef Roll was yet again spectacular with enough green onion and sauce inside. The skin was fried almost to a crisp, but not burnt. We decided to go for something different and ordered the Cumin Lamb Fried Noodle dish. I love the noodles, the lamb was tender, but the cumin was too overpowering for me. I'm not a huge fan of cumin so to be fair, it just wasn't my taste, but my friend tried a few bites of the leftovers and loved it. This is one of the few places where my husband will actually request. Good, but not worth the inattentive service. Beef roll and XLB are excellent. Dan Dan noodles can be skipped. It wasn't brothy like the Dan Dan noodles I'm used to at Lin's and is more rich, thick and peanutbutter like. Service on the other hand is very slow and disjointed. Didn't get water until the second dish was delivered and food took a long time to come out. Usually I'm pretty tolerant of slow service if the product is good, but since there are a lot of other great places to eat in Vancouver, I'd rather just go to a place which is maybe a slight step below Peaceful, but with better service. Looking at my last review of this place, it was time to come back, and to knock down a craving I have had ever since the first time I came here 2 years back. What was that craving, the beef cumin flatbread, this time with my partner in tow, and needing to kill an hour around this neighbourhood I had the chance again to have this menu item located on the back under the dim sum section. How do you describe it, something so satisfying that your mouth waters once you see it approaching the table. The steam eminating from the middle of the wrap, the small strands of cut beef, mixed with thin strips of green peppers, some hints of some hot spicy peppers to add the kick, mixed in with the cumin spice. The sesame filled flatbread that would crumble on the bite you take in, and the plate below collecting all your flakes and falling strands of beef while you maintain yourself from the true delight of eating this piece of comfort food. Unless your really hungry, this order is pretty big, and can be shared as it is cut in the middle. We also ordered their XLB, they are smaller than the ones I've had at other restaurants, but they filled the little steamer, and even though each 'Bao' was touching eachother, amazingly enough there was no accident of rippage on the wrapping/skin to lose any of the soupyness of the 'bao'! The meat in each was done just right, not over flavouring, the tops of the dumpling wrappings were a little heavier on the doughy side, but that would not deter me from ordering this again. The place is small, narrow, and still pumping out great tasting food from the last time I reviewed this joint. Didn't think this was actually possible, but I found a Chinese restaurant that does NOT carry white rice. Purple, stale-tasting and hella flaky, rice for days ONLY. 2 dishes and rice were ordered here, and the reviews are listed below, from best to worst: #1, Xiao-Long Bao (1/5) - the most crucial and defining moment of XLB is the dumpling skin's ability to hold the soup. To my disbelief, 6 of the 7 XLBs that were served already had opened dumpling skin, thus leaving the XLB to be dry and soupless. This dish embraces the phrase "you only had 1 job to do and failed"...miserably by ~86%. #2, Sichuan Pork Belly & Cabbage (0/5) - if Peaceful's goal of making pork belly from the Sichuan province of China equates to simply slathering viscous, salty brown sauce onto 8 mini-slices of pork belly and half-chopped cabbages, then Peaceful definitely nailed it, 100%. #3, Purple Rice (0/5) - Let me just repeat again that this is the first Chinese restaurant I've been to that does not carry white rice. Instead, Peaceful only has purple rice which even leaves their own staff questioning why. In addition, our waitress told me that she thinks the purple rice also tastes stale and flaky, so she avoids it. Their noodles are fresh and hand made, you can choose between thin round noodles or wide and flat noodles, and you're pretty much guaranteed perfection no matter which noodle dish you order. There were 4 of us for lunch, so we ordered: - Sichuan Hot & Sour Soup - Peaceful Beef Rolls - Sichuan Thousand Chilli Chicken - Cumin Lamb Stir-fried Noodles I normally just tolerate hot and sour soup, but Peaceful's soup was on point - perfectly hot and not too sour. The beef rolls weren't my thing - the beef and green onion flat bread part was great, but the hoisin sauce was too strong and sweet for my tastes. The chicken wasn't too special - fried and batter chicken hidden in a mountain of chillis. The chicken itself wasn't spicy or flavorful. The noodles were definitely the star dish - soft, fresh, stir fried to perfection with a great sauce. The (spicy) CUMIN LAMB STIR FRIED BLADE CUT NOODLES were delicious! Moderate amount of vegetables, light on meat, and heavy of noodles.
