Good Chinese food especially on the lunch menu/mini size portions. The Szechuan chicken tasted like they used sauce from a bottle but the chicken with ginger and green onion had a nice flavour. I would return for their lunch menu/mini size as the portions are quite large for $13. They're also really efficient and fast, and take out usually takes 15mins. They have tons of tables inside but note that they're sometimes all taken around lunch time so it's best to go at an off time if you want to eat in. read more

I decided to come here after a while with my family member because we haven't been here for a while. The food were somewhat okay for what it is, just that it's kinda like the westernized version of what Chinese food is. The only issue I have is the food was a tad bit more expensive especially since the meat' and fish's portion has shrunk a bit, so you'd be getting more cheap vegetables. Yes, the cost of everything is getting higher but still.... I'd say the only thing I had that I enjoyed was the fish congee (sorry, forgot to take pictures of that one). Service wise, the employee we talked to were pretty friendly. Usually, I'm hear with my family for dinner, but this time, I got to have their dim sum for lunch. Parking was ridiculously insane here. Their lot is pretty tight and small so I had to park across the street in a paid parking lot. It wasn't too bad though, about $3 CAD for almost the whole day if you do not want to deal with the hassle of parking in their lot or do street parking. So the restaurant is on the second floor of the building with a pretty long staircase to get to it. Not so great for the elderly, but they do have an elevator to make things easier for them. My pops got a reservation for the place ahead of time, but it didn't look too packed for a Friday. Saw a few empty tables after we sat down. I don't expect the weekends to be the same, so do make your reservations ahead of time. Dim sum was good. No complaints. Although my dad found something that was hard as a rock in the shumai, he pointed it out to them since he tried biting into it and probably damaged his teeth a bit. The staff was kind enough to take the shumai off the bill. Most likely it was a piece of small bone or something, but still unexpected. Other than the shumai, we had congee, sticky rice, steamed shrimp ball with fish roe, pig guts, and the usual stuff. Food is pretty decent here if you're coming for dim sum or dinner. This is my family's favourite Asian restaurant on the Shore when they don't want to cross any bridges. Our mom being Asian is picky when it comes to authentic Cantonese food, she gives them a thumbs up! Our family have eaten here so many times that the server knows exactly what they order. We were in the area for lunch. The menu definitely has more of a Canadian Chinese flair. I usually look for sweet and sour chicken balls as my go to entree. This restaurant has a lightly battered version of sweet and sour chicken. I added a wonton soup and a bowl of rice to make it a complete meal. Service was fast and efficient. The wontons were basic pork wontons. They were decent. The sweet and sour chicken was good. Jade Garden is a really nice neighborhood Chinese restaurant which serves good food at decent price. It hits the sweet spot in terms of value proposition. I have tried many dishes over the years and don't recall having a bad one served. They were all at least average to very good. Today we tried sole with snow peas, braised mushroom with tofu and egg plant with minced beef. All three dishes were good made with decent quality ingredients. Braised tofu could have used more mushrooms and less broccoli but heck at that price level it might be too much to ask for. Overall it was a good meal. Service is friendly and good here. After our visit to the Capilano Suspension Bridge we needed to find something fast to feed the kids before all the whining and complaining began. We found this restaurant through Yelp and decided to give it a try even though the exterior of the restaurant wasn't very inviting. I'm giving this restaurant 4 stars for 3 reasons: 1. The food was better than I thought. We ordered noodles and won tons soup and were pleasantly surprised by how tasty they were. 2. The staff was friendly and attentive. Granted it wasn't busy, but we all know that sometimes you can get crappy service at a Chinese restaurant even if you're the only one there. 3. Location! Maybe they have great Chinese food otherwise, but the Dim Sum and service weren't--those "Best Of" lists need to be updated. We shared Spring Rolls, the Beef Dumplings, the Steamed BBQ Pork Buns (the one dish that was actually good but still lacking), the Deep Fried Meat Dumplings, and the Chicken Feet (which the menu said Chicken Feel but I suspected that was a typo). All the food was lackluster, lacking spice and texture, was dry or fatty or greasy. I was adventurous enough for the Feet but they were a terrible mess of bones and skin--and hardly any meat. It doesn't help there are no menu pictures and the server didn't ask if we had questions. The service: On a very slow Monday night we were seated quickly and quickly forgotten. We were given one paper napkin each, none our food was good for chopsticks, and we didn't have forks. We had to repeatedly ask for more napkins and were never asked if we wanted more tea--which was weak. Our server checked on us twice I think in the span of an hour, and we had to ask another server for our check. The service could be tolerable if the food was better, so skip the Dim Sum altogether and take your chances. read more

At first glance I thought the menu prizes were high compared to ones you'd find in Vancouver but their portions are huge! I just wanted a simple plate of food and ordered the $12.95 Combination C for 1 and it was huge! One spring roll, delicious and piping-hot broccoli with generous slices of beef on a huge mound of chicken fried rice with another generous scoop of sweet & sour pork. This is Chinese Canadian style food that you'd find at a food court but much tastier with double the portions! With this understanding, I'd give this Combination C a 5! We also ordered the $8.45 won ton soup noodle that may be suitable for 2 people. It was a solid 3.5. Good but I've had great won ton dumplings in Richmond. My favourite vegetable that I always order in Chinese restaurants is the Snow Pea Leaf with Garlic Sauce (Dao Miew), because you just can't get the wok hot enough at home to cook them right. The price was $18.95 but again their portion was for an army! I'd give it a 3 on this visit as the sauce was delicious but stems were slightly tough at points. Service was surprisingly attentive and friendly for a Chinese restaurant and my friend was happy that their large screen tv in the middle of the room, was silently playing an important Leafs vs Blue Jackets game. Too lazy to cook, I decided to try Jade - ordered Beef with Black Beans and Crispy Noodles, Chicken Ginger onion Hot Pot and Chic Fried Rice I was blown away by their food - taste, portion size and freshness. The Noodles were packed in a well ventilated box so they were crispy and not a glutinous mass of noodles. Both were delicious and had decent protein, unlike some places that overload on onions and you get a few shreds of chicken/beef. I was so thrilled, I ordered exactly the same once again - now here is where the train ran off the rails - the beef was tasty but had a fair bit of chewy inedible sinews. Ok - everyone is entitled to the one off dropped ball So I ordered THE SAME (yes I dont like change..LOL) and called the restaurant to tell them of my past experience. I was assured it would be fine by a lady who was obviously busy multi tasking! Satisfied, I poured myself a drink and waited for the food. Caught up with EURO plays, I only got to my food much later. Lo and behold - there were no Noodles :(.... Cranky, I had my dinner and called them the next day. After a bit of a discussion and the guy on the phone figuring out what happened - I was told "We sent you a full order of Beef - you can come pick up the Noodles" Alright - as someone that has a long career in the hotel/food industry - this was a bummer! You screw up, fix it! Will I go back - yes. but I will check my order as soon as it gets here and be a nag before they send it off!!! I'm torn - this place hovers between 3 and 4 stars... The honey garlic fried pork is delicious! A mountain of pork spare ribs arrive battered and deep fried, drizzled with a sweet sauce. The sugar coating is caramelized so it has a bit of a sweet crunch. Their off-menu crunchy egg noodles with a clear gravy and seafood is really good too. What made me lean towards the 3 stars is the hot and sour soup. It was more like drinking hot vinegar. Huge portions and really affordable. I'll definitely be back here. Fantastic service! read more

The other day our waitress felt the need to show us on our receipt that we didn't tip and was extremely rude... Just as we were about to hand her the cash... Lost our business and our tip.... The place to go for Schezuan in the North Shore. This place can get busy so call ahead if you have a larger group. Service is pleasant and quick; food is consistently good and reasonably priced. The more traditional dishes are at the back of the menu for a more authentic meal; otherwise you can also get sweat n sour pork, lemon chicken and chow meins which are also delicious here. We now have an alternative to our local favorite restaurants in the North Shore. We will definitely be back to try out other dishes. This is my #1 go to place whenever I crave for Seafood on crispy noodles or Peking duck in North Vancouver. It's a small no frills neighborhood restaurant which makes a good 3 dish out of the Peking duck (the wraps, a soup and fried ee-fu noodles or lettuce bowls). I agree with most that the dim-sum is slow to be served as they are steamed only when an order is placed. The portions are large so the price is rather reasonable. It can be packed with people at dinner time. Parking isn't a problem if you are early for dinner. It's still a family favorite for us. read more

We went here for dinner based on the posted Yelp reviews (4.5 stars and 1 dollar sign and we were in North Van for the day). I have to say, this place was good enough but nothing special - a solid 3 stars in my book (not bad but not awesome) and definitely $$ instead of $. Looking back at the reviews, the most recent one was from four months ago followed by a few from last spring and summer (6-10 months ago), so perhaps this place changed hands or at least changed chefs or suppliers. We ordered four dishes: Wonton in Spicy Garlic Sauce, Fresh Pork and Shrimp Wonton Soup, Deep Fried Squid with Spicy Salt and Garlic, and Seafood with Flat Rice Noodles. All dishes were OK, but none impressed in any way. The wontons were identical between the first two dishes (shame on us I guess for our unimaginative ordering). The spicy wonton dish had a somewhat commercial tasting soy-based spicy sauce on it and the wontons in the soup dish came in a fairly salty soup broth with a few pieces of American broccoli (cooked nicely al dente, I should say). Most of the wonton ingredient was pork - my companion found something that looked like a small shrimp inside one of his but neither of us could really taste anything but pork. The ingredients and preparation for both of the main dishes were OK but not light or fresh to the taste. We both got the feeling that the dishes were made with prepared ingredients from suppliers rather than fresh ingredients. The servers were very friendly and attentive and every table was full. This may indeed be the best / most affordable / most authentic Chinese restaurant in North Van, as other reviewers have noted, but it is not one that left us with "savory face" at the end. Again, nothing "wrong" per se, but we did not leave saying "wow." By the way the total tab including tax and a 15% tip for the four dishes above was $52 (for two people). read more

Had to call them three times to make sure that the food was still on it's way, the manager lied each time we called about the food being 10 minutes away. Once the food finally arrived most of the dishes were cold. The food was bland and unappetizing, really disappointing experience. The icing on the cake was the delivery driver asking why he didn't get a tip after waiting over two hours for the food to arrive. Just discovered Jade Garden and had to extend a great review! The food was delicious. Service was excellent, seated us immediately, ladies were all very sweet. Food came out super fast and, although some have mentioned the price being an issue, we thought this was very reasonably priced considering the huge servings - a full lunch of leftovers for tomorrow! I would give a 0 star if it were an option. My 11 month old daughter loves dim sum. My wife and I were in town and decided to give this place a try. The first dish out was shrimp dumpling (Haw Gao). It was raw throughout!! The staff were unapologetic and we asked to cancel our order due to hygienic reasons (raw food is not good for anyone let alone a baby). A waitress there cause a huge scene with yelling at my wife in Cantonese much of which I did not understand, but was later filled in that we were being kicked out of the restaurant. On a Monday during lunch, I opted for take out because it was packed. When I sat in after the rush on another day, I decided to go safe with a combo Noodle soup dish. Like egg sushi is the test for a good sushi restaurant (sushi snobs understand this), the tester is going with the most basic dish. And is a 10 out of 10. The soup base was really nice and had the home cook feeling when you take your first sip. The noodle is freshly made (you can pick 1 of three noodle types). What I had was the bbq pork and chicken combo. The bbq was freshly sliced, the chicken is tender (not your roast soy), and the veggies is not over boiled. Even upon presentation, you know the cooks are paying attention and not just pumping out food to get in the next customer to come through. I found out they do delivery after 5 PM around the neighbourhood and this will be my spot from now on when I am in the area or needing to order to go or delivery for the next Oscar party. Jade garden is still a great restaurant even after all these years. We use to come once every two weeks to eat here because the food is always excellent and the service is fantastic. We've cut back extensively only because we've seen their prices increase significantly over the years which have gone from a $ to a $$ price range, almost double of their original prices when they first opened. Their pricing was what set them apart from some of the other Chinese restaurants in the lower mainland, so hopefully it doesn't go up any further or they may price themselves out of the market. At this point, it maybe worth our time to explore other Chinese restaurants across the bridge as it's probably more affordable even with the drive. read more
