We were looking for a Chinese place that served familiar dishes for us as folks from California. Ho Fung fit the bill! The lady who was both serving and filling to go orders was so friendly and welcoming - excellent service! It was a rainy night and there were a lot of door dash orders going out. We ordered spring rolls, Szechuan prawns and Mongolian beef. The Mongolian beef was outstanding - the sauce with fresh ginger and garlic was delicious and the beef was high quality. Everything was tasty and we really enjoyed it. The ambiance is casual and not fancy but this is what we like. We will be coming back! read more

I almost didn't leave a review but feel it's my duty to warn others. Perhaps it was the Chefs night off and they let the Dishwasher make the food. I would love to give any small operation the benefit of the doubt but our meal was barely edible even by Westernized Chinese standard. We ordered off Skip The Dishes; Ginger Beef, Chicken Chow Mein, Spicy Pork Spare Rib. My dog was gnawing on a Kangaroo tail at the time that almost made me envious. There was no colour. This place is consistent and I love these items: Beef lettuce wraps (they always give you enough lettuce) and the sauce is good. The crunchy noodles come in the beef, which is different but not bad., Chicken chowmein, the kids love this one and all of the fried rice dishes. The food is never heavy or greasy. The loss of star is for the soups I've tried. The chicken and corn and hot and sour were just not all that great. Stick with the mains! The lady who runs the place is always lovely! read more

Is it possible to give less than a star ? Sadly we had the most disgusting and disturbing encounter with this restaurant. I wasn't going to write a review but instead deal with the manager directly but unfortunately the customer service there is also non existent. We don't have a lot of classic Chinese options for delivery in New West. After a trip, we both wanted Chow Mein and chicken which we ordered ( spicy chicken chow mein and schezuan chicken with spring rolls and two cans of coke.) First of all, the restaurant forgot the spring rolls. Rather than apologize and offer a credit or to drop some off (we would have just liked the effort ) they brushed it off and blamed us and / or the delivery driver. But this is the reason for the review. As we were dishing up the food, my fiancé always inspects his food and separates it and in it he found A FINGERNAIL. He freaked out! It looked obvious and we examined it under light. It is a fingernail . We could t believe this. How can this even happen ? I have heard friends say they thought this place was dirty but we are planning to report this to the health authorities as it is post - covid 19 and if anything we hoped restaurants are taking extra precautions ! Beware! We called back and got yelled at. We dumped the food out and now feel sick to our stomachs that we ate a few bites of this food. Steer clear. Anything is better than getting sick from negligence! Still not recovered mentally from this. Came to this place with my group looking forward to a sit down meal. Turns out the dining room is closed. Takeout and delivery only. I should had called ahead. Made the order and we had to wait outside until food was ready.Only mildly insulted. Dining in the time of Covid. So we wind up ordering the beef chow mein, Shrimp Egg Foo Yung, & Dry Riblets. We walk to the nearby mini mall & luckily there was a table available. Wow , I was pleasantly surprised by the food quality. Beef Chow Mein tasted fresh. Generous portions , sauce was good. Shrimp Foo Yung had fluffy scrambled eggs & robust flavour. Big portion of Riblets came with plum sauce on side but tasted better without it. Reasonably priced. Decided to come here for a late night snack after a night of drinking and stumbled upon this little place. I didn't order to much as I was already filled up with liquids but I went with the chicken wings. It was to my surprise very good considering I rarely eat Chinese around this area. I didn't have a chance to try any other dishes but I am definitely considering to give this place a shot to try other items. The lovely lady also gave us oranges and fortune cookies and offered us pop on the house! Ho Fung was chosen for dinner, after an afternoon medical appointment in New Westminster the other day. This was our first dining experience at the restaurant, we (as a threesome) arrived about 4:30pm, and when we left, felt delighted we had chosen to try it. The restaurant really offered no particular surprises in terms of its physical nature, ambiance, and food offerings. It's a small place, and for us, had the quite typical 'look and feel' of most of the smaller Chinese restaurants we have seen and dined in throughout The Lower Mainland -- a good thing, as we prefer the small, very casual, family-owned and operated restaurants. The menu brought back fond memories as well -- although we had not dined at a Chinese restaurant for other than dim sum, in quite some time, it was comforting to see some familiar fare listed once again - and we were ready! Service was prompt and friendly throughout our meal. Prices are average, but the wait time is a bit long even if you order ahead and arrive at the time they tell you to. This place seems to get busy during dinner time for take out and Skip deliveries. We were hungry and our normal chinese food place was closed, so we decided to try Ho Fung in new west. As rule we don't go out of out way to complain... anyone can have a bad day, But... We ordered our food at 3pm and called about 4pm and the lady says our delivery doesn't start till 430, so why why take our order at 3pm and not say anything?? My boyfriend and I ordered from here yesterday, and we both found the food to be delicious! I thought it was quite flavorful, and all the dishes we ordered were big portions with lots of vegetables. It's not the best but it's decent. I'd like to find a better place, it's rather plain. No complaints, just more flavour would be nice. Rather for portion sizes they do give quite a bit so I was impressed with such. The one thing they did have which was honestly really good was there curry beef on rice, absolutely loved it. I am so stoked that so many restaurants are making vegan options available to accommodate the movement... Ho Fung is a purrrrrrrect example. In this Yelp forum, it's been pretty much established that Ho Fung has great tasty food, and not only was that true, but I was so impressed with the friendly owner that offered to make any dish on the menu vegetarian for me. That's right, she said they can make any dish vegetarian, and obviously some dishes have egg in the noodles or dumplings so those dishes can't be vegan, but whatever... I'll take what I can get. Despite the fact this restaurant serves Canadian Chinese food, it has, I think, one of the best pepper chicken wings in town. It's very well-seasoned and juicy and crispy. I'd always grab a take-out here of one or two orders of chicken wings to pair with beer at home. read more

I love the garlic tofu and broccoli, the bean curd hot pot, everything is hot and delicious. it is western style Chinese food done right. Cheap filling Chinese on the run...doesn't get any better than this after a long day. It is food court quality, however, I knew that going in, therefore, wasn't going to base my review on quality knowing exactly what I was getting into. I only had 10 bucks on me and pulled a 12 hour shift so it was all about calming the hangry. I had the sweet and sour chicken with rice and a side of soup to go. The soup wasn't properly closed and leaked in the bag so I had to throw that out. The rest of the meal was good. The sweet and sour chicken was flavorful and rice was fluffy. Definitely a hidden gem. It's not much to look at from the outside but a lot of magic happens inside. We've never dined inside the restaurant but have picked up take out too many times to count. The food is always fantastic. Hot, fresh and delicious. Best spicy squid I've ever had, the special chow mein (crispy) and spicy beans a close second and third. We've never had a bad dish but those are by far the favorites for my entire family. We have to do two orders of the spicy squid when we order. The two ladies that work the front are super friendly and sweet and I often comment that we really do need to go in and have a sit down dinner just because they're so nice. We ordered delivery for dinner time. I requested a bean curd and eggplant dish as vegetarian, I woke up sick and checked through the leftovers and discovered a mystery meat in it. My cat seemed to confirm my suspicion as he devoured a morsel. When I called to ask about it, hoping it was just other flecks of chewy bean curd or that it was at worst made with a meat broth... I was told it was actually pork.I was pretty mortified, they apologized and said that the staff must have forgotten to pass it on or that it was clearly overlooked somewhere because "At most Chinese restaurants, all dishes are made with meat somewhere unless requested, so if it wasn't passed on correctly or the chef forgot that is why your order came to you that way." The manager offered to deliver us something else, but I'm absolutely turned off. The dish my friend ordered was supposed to be a beef chow mein and he had about 6 little pieces of meat. He reported that it was a letdown but the overall taste was satisfying. The spring rolls were great, actually. They said they were vegetarian too, but who knows? Came here again and this time the service was less on par. Ordered the beef and brocolli on rice lunch special which comes with soup (hot and sour soup today). Service was fast, though the waitress seemed very surprised I was getting take out (maybe business was slow) though I often pay half tips with take out. When my order was handed to me, I realized they forgot the soup, which I asked for. After I walked out of the restaurant I realized there was neither napkins nor eating utensils. By this point I was like .......... and was in no mood to go back and ask again. Ended up taking it home though I was planning to go somewhere else. Ah well. Pretty decent standard fare chinese food...I ordered the dinner for 4...almond chicken, sweet and sour pork, pork fried rice, chicken chow mein, chop suey, and extra order of sweet and sour chicken balls. They deliver to queensborough when most other places near them will not. My recent purchase from them was not as good as usual... the oil was old, and transferred a bad aftertaste, most noticable in the egg rolls..but also in the chicken balls. I ordered take out and I'm not sure what happened but they ended up making the wrong dish for me. I went to go tell the waitress to not throw away the food because I could just take it along with my original order and overheard her bad mouthing me and telling her coworker that I was annoying in Cantonese all the while standing less than a few feet away from me. Been ordering take outs from this place. Love their vegetarian dishes and fried rice. Ordered from this place several time. BUT Tonight though was BIG FAIL!!!! Order was 2 hours late and we live on Queensborough. One of the dishes we ordered wasn't what we ordered. When called to explain what happened, instead of making it better for the customer, we just got more excuses and owner started to argue. Not happy with the service at all. I decided to order online for some chinese delivery. Never had this place im assuming it was rather new. So i decided to be safe and order some pork fried rice and chicken chow mein. With some won ton soup. It was delicious. The items were delivered nice and warm. The fried rice was great nice and crispy and lots of pork and veggies mixed in the noodles were good also lots of big pieces of chicken. The won ton soup was good also big pieces of pork and broccoli in the soup. All in all it was good. Perhaps next time i order i will try something different. Hi! I'd like to ad an update on my opinion and rating of the Ho Fung restaurant in New West. I wrote a review last Monday. This afternoon I got a call from the manager of said restaurant with a great apology and of course it was accepted because it Was Labour Day, they were very busy and mistakes and misunderstandings do happen. Also, their food is super good!! The deep fried prawns were to die for...and the misplaced Curry Sauce? it was worth the wait! The chow mein dishes were tasty although the pork and beef in them could have been sliced larger and their beef and broccoli in black bean sauce is delicious. the sizes were good and plenty of fortune cookies!
