When the waiter brought over our soup bowl he must have seen a speck of dirt because I saw him use his finger to wipe something off. Won Ton Soup tasted like they dropped the salt shaker in the soup. We were able to eat the Won Ton without the salty soup. Singapore vermicelli had no curry taste and was so salty that we only took one bite and left the rest. Waiter asked if we wanted a to go box and I told him no because it was too salty. He was able to grunt an acknowledgment. We still had to pay the whole bill. We visited Chonqing on Robson in Vancouver on a recent trip. It is a very unassuming location but so glad we went in! The food was excellent and the woman who served us was very pleasant and attentive. We had the pork dumplings and cashew chicken which were both fresh and very flavorable. I did order a drink that was tasty but if you're looking for a strong drink, the blue hawaiian was decidedly not. The place isn't fancy but it was clean and welcoming read more

Last Monday we went to Chongqing Resturant on Commercial Dr. And ordered vegetarian fried rice, dia Ching chicken with bone and a beef dish. It was horrible! There were very few people and the food was brought to us immediately! Fried rice was cold completely, chicken dish some meat was over cooked hard and a few added new pieces were not enough cooked. I didn't actually look at the menu because my friend is a regular and already had a list going of her favourites. I enjoyed the sweet and sour chicken, green beans, General Tso's chicken, and orange beef the most. Did not use the bathroom so I can't speak to that. Felt welcome when I first came in. Plates were big and clean though bowls would be nice. Seems to cater to mostly non-Chinese clientele for dining in. Love that they have a dedicated parking lot. read more

A well established Szechuan style restaurant that was one of the mainstay in Vancouver's Chinese Cuisine circle. Food here is no nonsense, sauce can sometimes be overloaded, but that's what its supposed to be in this style of cooking, don't compare it to the newer waves of Chinese restaurants we see now in Vancouver, portions are very decent, you will be sure have lots to bring home and not have to leave the restaurant hungry! We ordered for 4 last night -Christmas Eve- and the order said it would be 45 minutes. When the food hadn't arrived after almost two hours we tried repeatedly to phone- no answer- so we picked up pizza. After 2.5 hrs our Chongqing order arrived. This is unacceptable and we feel we should be compensated. The food itself was good enough- the wait of 2.5 hours was unacceptable. I tried to call again today and they phone was not picked up and no message or email can be sent... Really poor. read more

This is a small local place that was recommended by the concierge at our hotel. We went for lunch. They gave us a rather unimaginative abbreviated lunch menu. We didn't realize we could have asked for the full menu until after we were served, and we saw other locals ask for it. The chief had the wontons in peanut sauce. The sauce was too thick and separated--not a good consistency. I had the crispy beef-but it was more than crispy. It was so hard in texture, it was hard to eat. I would look for elsewhere. read more

This is one of my favourite Chinese restaurants. Food is delicious, well prepared and well presented. Their diced chicken with chilli sour and garlic sauce is a favourite. They also serve dim sum. Open seven days a week, it is a handy go-to for a delicious meal. There are plenty of non-spicy choices, if you don't like spice, but I find the spiciness very palatable. If you need a quick, filling lunch, this is the place. However there are some noticeable dings about the foods: Stir-fried beef with black pepper is quite salty, cannot eat without rice. Orange Peel Chicken is submerged in thick soy sauce which also make it quite salty. Their fried rice is quite good, very enjoyable. The vegetables in their Vegetable stir fry is still quite raw, would be better if cook for another minute or two. I had lobster with egg noodle tonight.. the lobster was pretty big 3.5 pound at $29.95 per pound. It was fairly well cooked and the gravy is thick, so the dish was nicely prepared. We also ordered fried beef with broccoli which was pretty standard everywhere. Service was fair but not so friendly but still able to get the points across. Quite simply the worst food I've ever tasted. When we went in we asked the sweet elderly couple if the food here was good and they said yes, very. General Tso 's chicken had the rubbery bounce of octopus without any discernible taste. General Tso got demoted to private. The orange beef was more rubbery than bubble gum and lasted longer than Double Bubble - stringy and hard to chew through. The Beef Chow Fun went from worse to worser. The sauce was pure, dripping, clear, grease. It was supposed to be black bean sauce. We only ate one bite of each dish. This is a great culture with a great culinary tradition. How the elderly gentleman host kept a straight face selling this drek is beyond me. I am sure he does not eat where he works. I try not to write negative reviews but Vancouver is now an Asian city and we expect much better. My son spotted the same sweet old lady driving over the meridian as we were leaving. read more

I would not recommend this place. I ordered from Uber eats and paid $35 for half duck, fried noodles and 2 cans of pop. The pop was the only decent thing. The duck was a few pieces of duck skin with the tiniest piece of duck on it. The noodles were so hard and dried out it could break a tooth. So so bad. I'm very disappointed. read more

HI, This is a restaurant I have patronized for years but I can no longer recommend them. My last few orders had significant problems. the noodle soup with pork chop did not have pork chops - they were just breaded bones. The hot and sour soup had an unmistakeable odor and flavour of melted plastic. it was inedible and I was afraid that it may have caused some type of poisoning or allergic reaction. The restaurant's response was inadequate. They offered no explanation, no offer to replace and just said we'll let the kitchen know. read more

This is the second time I've ordered from here and the second time the driver has done this. It will be the last time I order. 2. Made order this Chongqing restaurant on Commercial Drive and the delivery guy banged and held the bag badly so everything was licking in the bag and even the sauces opened and spread all over. I called the manager and he was disgusting wanted me to bring the mess back for him to acknowledge the problem and mess I received. I have never never experienced such horrible service, and never had a manager handle situation in such a pooooor and horrible manner. I am going to post this everywhere social media, other browsers for people to know. Visited for the first time. After having Peking Duck in HongKong and in Taipei, I have to say that here they serve a very delicious Peking Duck. Very affordable and could be half or full and also in one, two or three courses. Presentation and flavour were superb. Also we had chicken Lettuce wraps very delicious. In general all portions are very generous. All dishes for our party of 8 were extremely delicious . The only reason not giving 5 stars. Is the service, no matter is fast, there is a female waitress very rude and with lack of manners and ignorance total in customer service: she wanted to force us to consume soup for 5 instead of only for 2 and to order our Peking duck in two courses rather than in one. She was upset because we set our point of ordering what we want, besides she was trying us not to split our bill in four, saying it was no possible. Then she threw literally the napkins on the table and at the end no matter we want to pay as the first in line , she left me for the end. Almost we gave no tip , but in consideration of the male waiter, who was fast and gentle , we gave 10% only. Sub-$9 lunch specials rock! They have 30+ lunch special items to pick from, many including a bowl of rice and choice of soups. I only had a chance to order the ginger beef and the chili deep fried fish combo, so I will have to come back about 14 more times to try the other 28 items. But, the dishes were spicy hot, the way I like it. The beef, however tasty, was very sinewy and tough, as expected for the price. It wasn't as if I was expecting tenderloin or sirloin. But, the service was quick, food arrived in less than 5 minutes, the portions are very generous, and they give fortune cookies! We also tried a dim sum dish (har gow shrimp dumplings) which was a little under-par. Stick with their lunch specials. Parking is available on the street, but you'll likely need to walk a block or two. And, this place gets busy around lunch. Hadn't been here in years, and decided to give it another shot for some take-out. Turns out they are very vegetarian- / vegan-friendly these days, with many dishes to choose from. We ordered the Dai Ching Tofu, Szechuan Eggplant, and Mixed Vegetables with Rice Noodles - all done fantastically, especially the eggplant dish. Extremely rich flavours, like Szechuan cuisine should be -- you definitely need some rice to pad out the thick, rich sauces. Service is efficient and no-nonsense -- typical Chinese service. Prices are decent, maybe a little pricy at about $15 per dish, but the portions are generous. We will definitely return. It used to be my favorite restaurant but NOT ANYMORE! The service has gone down the drain. This place is too expensive for what you get. Sometimes the veggies dont taste fresh either. I would try somewhere else from now on. They forgot how important the customer is. What makes this more of an insult is that i supported them during the pandemic by ordering delivery and dinning in when it was possible. Dont bother trying their online ordering, it doesnt work properly and will waist your time. Plus there is hidden MSG in the food when you ask for NO MSG. I ordered last night because it's been a while since I had this cuisine. I don't know if it was because I ordered after 8 so we got the dregs of the night, but there is no way this was made fresh as it was delivered in about 20 minutes. Flavor was fine for the most part. The vegetable spring rolls were excellent in that they were crispy, not much flavor in the filling. The won tons in the soup were mushy and falling apart. The broth was great, but the won tons had no flavor. The fried shrimp rice also had no flavor, but was fine when we doctored it a little. The shrimp at least were cooked right. The ginger beef was bad. Yes, it had flavor, but we're not sure what flavor. Worse, after we found the THIRD hair on a piece, we tossed it all. We didn't touch the chow mein and, frankly, after the hairs, we're scared to. I won't be ordering from here again. Ever. For the prices on these dishes, I had much higher expectations read more

Horrible horrible service! I just brought my whole family there for dinner which was the biggest group of ppl there. The servers were horribly rude from the beginning! Asked us to order right away before we even looked at out menu! No one was smiling or saying HI! No basic customer service. And then halfway our meal the server kept on asking us to bring us the containers before we even finished our food. They were telling me from the beginning to arrive on time cos they are very busy! But arent we the reason they were busy? I can tell by their faces that my family felt uncomfortable and pushed! We basically rushed out from restaurant. It used to be our Fam-get-together spot. The skin of the mixed mushroom dumplings is thick. The dumplings have msg, but they are substantial. The spareribs with pumpkin also have a ton of msg with minimal pumpkin underneath the spareribs. The shrimp and chive dumplings have heavy msg but they are substantial. The skin of the steamed vegetable dumplings is green and the dumplings are substantial. However, it would be better if they don't put the ginger inside the dumplings because it's not necessary. The servers seem unhappy to work there and they don't communicate with each other. No wonder the service is subpar. When we sat down after the hostess brought us to the table, a server came and he THREW the pair of chopsticks and the fork onto the table. The quality of their food and service makes me understand why most people just have their lunch special but not the regular items on the menu. read more

Ordered from Skip. Wow, it was super fast. In fact, it arrived faster than I was expecting. Like, I got my food in 20 minutes. I don't live particularly close to Commercial or anything. I usually get more wild with my orders, but I took it easy with this new place and got ginger beef, tso chicken, eggplant szechuan. I threw in an order of Wonton with Red Pepper and Peanut Sauce. It was a good decision, as the wontons were amazing. Wow, that peanut sauce was seriously delicious. All the other dishes were very tasty as well. The chicken was my least favourite, but I knew that would happen. Still good, and get it if you like it, but I'll mix it up next time. The eggplant was so great though, and actually it was probably the best restaurant ginger beef I've had. Yeah, this is a very Canadian-style Chinese food place, but it's also just dang good. This place has so-so Chinese food, but don't expect too much. I tried the Peking Duck, and wouldn't recommend it here - it's really nothing special. The fried tofu with red chili sauce was decent. The orange peel beef, which our server recommended, was not that impressive. I also tried a vegetable dish, which was overly oily, which easily ruins vegetable dishes. The restaurant itself is pretty nice. The service is passable. In my humble opinion, the very best Chinese restaurant in the entire city. Prices are definitely higher than the stuff you get in mall food courts, but the food is better than a cold Orange Julius on a hot Summer's day. Well worth spending the extra money you would have used for laundry, Chongqing is absolutely delicious, as everything from the ingredients to the sauces stand out as "pause and sigh" good. Try the wontons in peanut sauce. I would almost prefer it if you didn't go, so that it remains understated and secretive. Actually, they do deliver, so just get it sent to your place and stay away. My friend suggested this location when my favourite much further away spot ended up closed for their dinner hour 3pm-5pm). Being open-minded I agreed with trying a new place and we met nearby, walking over from the commercial skytrain station. My friend and I were given Chinese Tea via two small thimble sized tea cups and a teapot. Let me start again. We came in to the double front doors to a large space with maybe 8 tables in a very large room packed with tables and chairs apparently so close to each other that a couple with a single wide stroller couldn't even pass between without needing to move the chairs. On the very very far wall were three huge TV's - very unexpected and seemingly with the volume off. I've never seen a TV - forget three - in a Chinese restaurant. Hmm. Tables were nicely set with creme linen table clothes although unfortunately all that were within site bore possibly recent food stains? Be prepared to be patient when you enter the front doors and verbal if they seem to forget to comebback to place your order or bring water. We both ordered a beer (nothing on tap) - note be prepared to ask the waiter to not pour it into a glass unless you enjoy excess froth since they don't ask. Oh the food. Yes the food. We ordered three dishes. Cantonese Lemon chicken $12.95 Daily ching prawns (***)$14.95 Beef w canadian broccoli $14.95 My North American eyes were surprised to see that each dish whilst not served for eye appeal (food plopped on, dripping off) nothing presented appeared to be presented with filler things (excess onion chunks for example). The lemon chicken was perfectly cooked and moist with a delectable thin barely breaded non-crispy coating with a truly authentic lemon sauce enrobing each bite-sized morsel. The peeled large prawns were so lush and juicy I worried perhaps they were under cooked. Nope. Perfectly cooked unlike most other over cooked prawns at almost every other place I've had cooked prawns. Hmm mm. Wonderful garlicky sauce with levels of taste bursting on the tongue. The beef dish had huge chunks of non-soggy not undercooked perfect example of broccoli with long slices of saucy tender beef dotted by less than a handful of carrot pieces. All in all it did seem a bit expensive however the quality was undeniable, the unique taste in each and every dish certainly and how busy it got after our arrival spoke volumes. We ordered Chongqing as a delivery, so we didn't have any issue with service as other yelpers are describing. We expected it to arrive in 45 minutes, but it was pretty quick and arrived at our door within 30 mins. I liked: - The wontons in spicy peanut sauce. Nom! - The pork meat in lettuce wraps (although I might try duck next time!) - The eggplant was really tasty too. I wasn't very impressed by their spicy chicken. It was overcooked so dry, and not particularly spicy. Still, other reviewers mentioned this place is aimed at a Canadian palate, maybe that is why the spices are a bit mild!? It's not particularly cheap either...but I'll probably order from here again as it was tasty and speedy. read more
