I'd been meaning to try this False Creek restaurant for a while, so when I did visit I ordered some fairly standard fare to try out for the first time. The service is excellent, they leave a gadget at your table to press for the attention of the staff any time. Their hot and sour soup is quite good, not the best in Vancouver but nothing to complain about. It had relatively large pieces of chicken and plenty of shrimp. I ordered the mushroom egg Foo Young.. also really good and buttery, if I have one complaint it would be that the salt is a little on the heavy side. Finally I ordered barbeque pork northern style chow mein. I really like this, it was obviously stir fried in soya sauce with a chewy texture, and the pork was on the verge of crispy. I would definitely order this again. Parking is easy, there are plenty of stalls out front that are shared with other businesses, and it's right off W 6th Avenue. read more

Very solid! It's tucked away in a small strip mall but don't let the lack of ambiance dissuade you. I am all about Dim Sum and the dumplings I had were perfect, squirted juice and I could have paid a lot more in other fancier places! The wontons in chili garlic sauce were some of the best I've had - and I'm from San Francisco, so I have high standards for authentic Dim Sum. This little place is a gem! read more

The absolute best Chinese food in Vancouver. Chicken Kung Pow, extra spicy, no bamboo, extra peanuts. Do it. However, very difficult to order. There English is terrible so be ready to be patient. But well worth it. Very nice people as well. To mention as well. At high busy times the wait will be two hours. I found this out last night. Was very upset. Price: 2 mains just barely fall under the $40 mark. Reasonable, but man I miss old days with lunch combos at 6.99. Does that age me? Food: let the wor wonton search of 2023 continue! Wor wonton was a little more Szechuan style (per the restaurant name). The prawn-y wonton broth came separate from the large amounts of wonton, bbq pork, chicken, and veg, which were covered in mystery brown sauce. What was it? I don't know but mixed with the soup it was good. A little on the salty side Combo: this was a pick your own which I appreciated. To be comparable to all the other combos we like to try, we got chicken fried noodle, sweet and sour pork, and a spring roll because they didn't have deep fried prawn. Noodles were a bit dry and flavourless, but s&s pork was pretty good. Wouldn't order combo again Bonus har gao and siu mai because we were hungry: har gao wrappers were a bit chewy but it was delivery, so ymmv. Siu mai was pretty good. Nondescript but not in a bad way Rating: yommmmm. Would do the dim sum and wonton soup again but would also keep trying other places. read more

I've been back here a few times and haven't been as impressed as my initial visit. They have a very nice vegetarian menu with all sorts of items, and my overall impression is that their flavours are not all that complex compared to other Szechuan cuisines in town (e.g., Chongqing). They throw a lot of chili peppers into their dishes, but the sauces / seasonings are not all that interesting. On this occasion, we ordered online for a 6pm pick-up: Szechuan green beans & tofu, dai ching tofu, and 2 egg rolls ($2.50 each plus tax). I got an e-mail at 5:40pm saying the food was ready, but this wasn't when I requested the order to be ready. That meant our egg rolls were soggy by the time I picked them up and got them home. Even if they were fresh, they were quite small, doughy and with a very boring all-cabbage filling. I wouldn't order these again. The Szechuan green beans & tofu were not all that special. I've had much better Szechuan green beans at many places locally -- they just throw a lot of chili peppers and jalapenos at this without trying to flavour this dish much. And the tofu is very oily and salty. 2.5/5 The dai ching vegetables were good. Spicy, quite flavourful, but still on the oily side even for Chinese food. I enjoyed this overall. 3.5/5 At this point, I'll return maybe occasionally, but with so many Chinese options in Vancouver, I won't prioritize this place. read more

This is my go to Chinese take away in a strip mall. I've ordered frequently Singapore noodles which is with chicken and shrimp and they can make it spicy if you ask, as they add serrano chilies. I've tried their braised fish in chili sauce and it was good but probably would not repeat it. Also tried their chicken & broccoli in black bean rice noodle, and was not a fan of the white meat but black bean flavor was pretty good. Their fried rice is very good as ordered shrimp, chicken and even egg fried rice. Like supporting family run businesses so check them out if you're in the neighborhood. read more

Not unless you want anything that comes from the fryer to just taste like fish as I have ordered her several times now with both chicken and beef fried dishes just tasting like fish! Also if you are using an app like uber eats they offer to order from this restaurant before the restaurant is actually open for diner service. So what should take 20-30 mins takes in upwards to and 1hr and 30 mins. It's just quite unacceptable. There are much better options in this city unless you like to wait forever for fishy beef and chicken. read more

Since the pandemic, and all the Uber eats/skip orders the kitchen can't seem to keep up. Used to be 20 min delivery. I order through the website so they don't have to pay skip. Etc. I've had western Chinese food and there are some places that do it properly. This place just doesn't care nor do they have standards. Ordered from the lunch menu the ginger beef. It came with wonton soup which was decent. The main dish itself was disappointing. I had 60% beef and 40% honey sauce. I couldn't even finish it. Didn't bother to complain as I was on my lunch break from work and didn't have time to have them make me a proper dish. Like how could you now be aware that the order you made was like dessert. All that honey sauce was disgusting. I shouldn't have to complain about something so obvious. The ginger beef should be tossed in the sauce not drowning in it. I just won't return is all. read more

The sweet and sour pork is more than 50% vegetables mainly green bell peppers. The Pork tastes like it was cooked at least a day ago. Tough chewy. My children have asked me to pitch the food in the trash. the beef and black bean sauce is very little beef, it is full of green bell pepper with over cooked maybe day old noodles that break apart into bits the spring rolls are terrible. Once again', my kids looked at them with enthusiasm and have binned the, after one bite n this restaurant has had multiple owners since 2010. The origal ones ... that went back to China were amazing. We are fairly regular customers, but things have been sliding with this restaurant. We are about six blocks away, just up the hill. We ordered the Dinner for 4 - Spring Rolls (4) Chicken Chow Mein Spicy Wonton B.B.Q Pork & Shrimp Fried Rice Dry Szechuan Chili Ginger Beef (extra gingery, yum) Szechuan Style Fried Green Beans and added some Honey Garlic Chicken Wings & S & S Chicken. Not bad for a local westernized Chinese restaurant. Ordered the ginger beef lunch special for $8.95 and comes with rice, hot and sour soup and a small salad. Pretty good deal. The ginger beef wasn't quite what I wanted. I normally like it drier and less sweet with more ginger taste and a bit spicy. Their version was very saucy and honey heavy. Also ordered the deluxe tan tan mein. My sister said it used to be more thick and less soup with my peanut butter taste. Not bad though. I really do not want to give these people 1 star. It seems mean, but see below. So let me say my partner gave them two. But the food arrived 20 minutes to half an hour late. One of the better Chinese deliveries. I find Chinese restaurants in this city have gone severely downhill in the past 10-15yrs. What used to be authentic, sometimes original twists to dishes, has turned into processed, bland, oily, overly sweet versions of what good Chinese food can be. The food here tastes authentic with crisp tasty veg and real protein. The sauces have good Unami and distinctive flavours. We'll be back! read more

This review is for one dish only and only if you get this one dish. It's about the Tan Tan Noodles. Made of dreamy peanutty sauce that is the essence to this dish. The noodles were a bit soft on the last dine in here, but they are usually good enough to forgive for this one night. Forget everything else.. Just go for the Tan Tan Noodles. If you must. for variety, have some veggies or fried rice and make it spicy! If I were to review their Vegies with black bean sauce. I'd rate it a 2 or if it was the XLB (are they frozen?) I'd rate it a 1. So take the advice and concentrate on your TAN TAN. You'll become a FAN FAN. read more

I have no idea what "genuine" Szechuan is and I don't pretend to be a connoisseur. But as far as your typical "let's order chinese!" food goes, Szechuan Chili is my favorite choice. I stick to just a few dishes...ginger beef, wonton in spicy garlic sauce, lemon chicken and steamed rice; just the perfect hungover dinner. I went once to pick up an order and certainly don't recommend eating in -- the atmosphere was pretty awful. I've tried a lot of chinese delivery, but Szechuan Chili is the one I always come back to. Important tip though -- I've found the food is a LOT better quality if you order between 4:30 - 6:00. Any later and the quality is really hit & miss. read more

I am very impressed with their customer service. I originally ordered through Skip the Dishes and after 1.5 hours the driver brought me the wrong order! The restaurant called me directly to let me know that the Skip the dishes driver didn't check and took the wrong order so they wanted to make sure I got my order so they sent their own delivery driver to send the order to me! Wow! Most restaurants nowadays just move on to the next order and don't bother to make things right but Szechuan Chili went above & beyond to make sure I got my order despite Skip the dishes making the error. It has gone terribly downhill here, it used to be so good, quality ingredients, tasty, portions good. Was one of the best Ginger Beefs I've had and their noodle dishes were great. Portions still good however 2 bites in and it all goes to the trash. Tried a second time, but a smaller order, and also not good, trashed. Cardboard noodles, meat questionable, veggies did not seem fresh, sauces were like from a jar of the cheapest stuff. I must add a disclaimer: I am from Alberta, and I love Ginger Beef (GB)! But prior to moving to Vancouver, I had no clue that the GB I grew up loving and eating aplenty was created in my home Province. Alas, after a much disappointing, albeit likely authentic GB order at Kirin, I was left sorely disappointed. Thus began my search for Alberta GB in Vancouver. What exactly is Alberta GB you ask? It's beef strips, lightly breaded, deep fried, with a spicy/sweet ginger sauce. The result is crunchy, chewy yummyness. First stop, Szechuan Chili. I ordered delivery: Ginger beef, tofu and eggplant and szechuan green beans. The lady who took my order was efficient, it arrived earlier than quoted and the food was still warm. I quite enjoyed all the food... even the GB. Despite it not being quite the same as my fave - but for Vancouver, it suffices. The GB was not really breaded but appeared to be fried to some extent making it chewier. The sauce was definitely worthy of Alberta GB. The tofu and eggplant was flavourful. The green beans were crunchy and spicy. The dishes were about $10 each and the delivery was free for me - so overall, the price to service to taste ratio worked well. I would definitely order from here again. But I am still on the search for some Alberta GB in Vancouver. If anyone has any recommendations - please let me know! read more

Pretty much what a Chinese restaurant in Canada should be. Signage in English and menus that are easy to read. Communicating with the staff was easy and the food wasn't full of msg. Even a one star is generous, I have been ordering from this place for a long time, I had the General Tso chicken delivered tonight, and unlike the menu description it was not white chicken meat but fatty skin and very chewy pieces.. it was a MAJOR disappointment.. I will never order from here again... this place has really gone downhill fast.. must be a new cook or management... find another place to order from..
