Southern Delicacy serves up popular Southern Chinese favourites, and then some. We decided to play it safe this time so just ordered oyster sauce chai siu bao, minced beef congee with fresh-made Chinese donut (oily), and also pan-fried scallop, shrimp and eggs on flat rice noodles. Truly not bad for the prices, comparable to most of Richmond's dim sum places. They do offer seafood and higher-end items to take your dining there to the next level. Good thing Chatime's right next door as a meal is not finished until boba has been devoured ^_^

One-line review: Beautiful venue, pricier fare with mixed results. We visited here for the start of Chinese New Year, having noticed that it had recently opened. We ordered: -Taiwanese chicken appetizer (I liked this fine; fried well, not too oily. But my family thought it tasted 'powdery.') - Malaysian Curry crab (This was the hit of the evening. Beautifully cooked and displayed, succulent, and tasty. But NOT cheap -- see below.) - Wide rice noodles with chicken and satay sauce (This was the loser of the bunch. The chow fun style noodles were way overdone, to the point of being pasty, no texture at all. The supposed satay sauce didn't taste like any satay sauce I've ever had, and the chicken texture was... too soft. Overall, wouldn't ever order this one again.) - Pork and green bean (a bit salty, but tasty) - Chili pepper fish soup (This was good. The right amount of spice for our spice-loving family; fish was tender and soup was well-seasoned.) The big, unwelcome surprise: The delicious crab was quite a bit more expensive than we anticipated. Rookie mistake: we asked about the market pricing and they said $28.99, which we found remarkably economical. Turns out that that is the price /per pound/. Our overall bill for three, including tip, was right at $200 -- a bit high for what we got. I might have given four stars for most of the food and venue, but took off another star for value. You can tell that they're going for a finer dining experience here, but the service was mixed. It was Chinese New Year, but none of the staff wished us a Happy New Year. They never offered tea, and the first hot water they brought us wasn't hot. They didn't bring a crab cracker, crab forks, or plastic gloves for the crab until well-after we had started eating it. On the positive side, they repeatedly asked if we were enjoying our meal, cleared plates promptly, and generally seemed concerned that we were having a good experience. We really should have spoken up about the noodle dish and given them a chance to make it right; I'm guessing the request might have been well-received. On the whole, I'd rate the service adequate. We walked over, as the restaurant is right around the corner from us, but we heard that there was parking in the rear. Otherwise, you're at a meter on the street. Bottom line: Some delicious dishes if you order the right items, but there are some to avoid, and no matter how you slice it, this is not a value pick.

This place is pretty good. We love every dish we had here. They made the lobster noodle I wanted for me. The pork in guava sauce is surprising great even for my Chinese tongue. It is swim in mayo though but the flavor is still wonderful

A must try if you are in Vancouver, recommended by a local friend, reservation is highly recommended even on a weekday, they have a few fusion Chinese dishes that you will not find in other places, the crab was excellent, the fish was moist and delicate, the chicken wing was a bomb, must have as appetizer. Prices are very fair, waiters were very attentive. I had an excellent experience and will definitely come back the next time I visit.

It was recently renovated and looks like an upscaled Chinese restaurant. I don't know if it was the symphony-like music they were playing but it seemed quieter than most Chinese restaurants that I've been to even though it was full. The staff were very attentive. There was a good variety of food in the menu. The food we ordered was hot and yummy.

I learned to stay away from whatever the waitress/waitor recommended that had special deal, so I had a pleasant experience. The food is decently portioned, we ordered 3 dishes and have the portion is good for 3 people. Flabourful but not too salty, I didn't feel super thirsty after the meal. I like the eggplant with minced pork, with little kick of spiciness. This dish is not easy to make at home because it requires a lot of oil. They did a good job. The XO sauce Beef is tender and I like how it's paired with quite some veggie. The yangzhou fried rice is just so so, I would just go with white rice next time. $32-38/person with tax and tips. It's on the pricier side but worth it once in a while. Always better to go in groups of 3 or 4 people for Chinese restaurant to get good variety and you don't have to worry about leftovers.

Super impressed with the quality, how fast food was cooked, and portion sizes. It's the best place for noodle soup or congee in Kerrisdale. We liked it more than Cafe Gloucester (which is also good!), and used to haunt congee noodle house a lot before it closed. Highly recommend. Also a beautiful setting. They took our contact information for COVID contact tracing and lots of room to space out.

The oysters that day were from Fanny Bay, so they were very plump and juicy! Outdoor seating only with a bunch of benches and a few tables. I already knew I was going to do take away, so I didn't need to jostle for a seat. Almost everyone else had to do the jostleing. Two piece cod and a salmon tacone. The cod was overcooked. The tacone was good. Fries were crispy and unevenly fried. Meaning some pieces were burnt a little. Still acceptable tho. Hence the 3 ***'s It was decent, but it didn't wow me. Maybe it was an off order day. I like my fish. You can smell the ocean near the pier. When I made the reservation I had a maybe unusual standard for how I planned to rate this place and…read moreit wasn't based on the food or price or wine list or much of anything you might want to know about. It all started in Santa Monica in 1989, on Academy Awards night. This little buildup probably won't seem very relevant to many here but so what, it's about how well a high-end restaurant receives people with infants. I'm unlikely to have, not to say unworthy of, more than one grandchild. And this one won't see much of dear old grandpa being that my son and family live in Vancouver. Not a great distance to travel but on the other hand it's not next door. Plus the maternal grandparents moved from Connecticut to live in a coastal community located maybe 50 miles from the border. All-wise grandmothers being the helicopters they truly are, what does anyone need this degenerate hedonist for? Well, for one thing the parents need a chance to relive the excesses and finery that they once tasted, as part of their affluent lives before parenthood. while i don't know how to comfort a relentlessly colicy 3-month old i do know how to enjoy the best restaurants in town, or at least ones that will take my reservation. I suggested the Blue Water based on one friend's approval and all were happy. now as to the 1989 academy awards and a well-known restaurant in the day, Chinois. at the time i had a small child in tow, not quite the infant stage of this current vintage but young enough still to be driven by the primeval lizard brainstem than the more highly evolved human cerebral cortex of its brain. i warned the restaurant when making the reservation and was told that, yes, this particular evening they would be quite busy with revelers from the awards ceremony but if we came at 5 pm they would happily accommodate us with young child. just so happens, that exactly almost what the Blue Water said when I called for our reservation. I suppose the best to do is describe the food we ordered. In advance i invited the young couple to do as much damage to my credit card as they wanted, as they'd been cooped up for the past 4 months with this infant. their first choice was this damned seafood tower which seemed to me beforehand, and after as well, to be more a kind of concept product. i'd have preferred to order individual plates of various shellfish, oysters or whatever, than this multilayer assemblage. but it is a showy kind of construction and what did i care, really. everything on the three tiers was quite fresh and tasty except i'd have foregone the shrimp. really shrimp are in my mind more than a bit overrated and don't belong in the same plate with fresh "varietal" oysters from here or there. aside from the tower we ordered a few different sushi, my favorite being yellowtale, plus carrot soup all around (healthy dose of butter there), mains were arctic char, sable and atlantic scallops. if available i have a kind of fetish for sauteed spinach (as a kind of audition dish), and someone wanted an extra round of oysters from i don't know where. after mentally doing a little math i realized the total seemed lightweight, but the wine list took care of that problem. my favorite white wine is chablis grand cru made/bottled by a vigneron (grapegrower/winemaker under one roof). anything else is either a lower tier vineyard or a blend which, while good, lacks a sense of origin. some use a term "terroir" which i ignore but maybe it's more that i ignore the people who like to bandy such abstract wine descriptors about. anyway, here was a perfectly good les clos, about 6 years old, for i think around $250 canadian. i have also to point out that i've been disappointed with almost every euro wine i've had in canada, owing i suspect to the high duty the government places on all imported wine in effort to protect its own ham-handed, homegrown products, which are usually absolutely nothing to write home about. fortunately this particular bottle of chablis was really really good. after all that we had various desserts, and whatever. at Chinois on academy awards night, we arrived at 5 pm and were seated in a very prominent location in the room, but with a plastic sheet under the child's seat. this was a good thought on the part of the manager. without going into any details best to say my 2-yr old made a mess of things but the waitstaff could not have been more accepting. i was frankly impressed, as i was when our dinner at Blue Water came to an end. So my score is 4 for food (i really don't know what it would take to get 5* from me, so take that for what it is) and 1* for absolutely perfect service. Highly recommend this very stylish restaurant for whatever occasion.
