pretty sure this is the best sul-bing i ever had in the bay area. I am not a korean shave ice expert, but their signature one is really good. the soy bean powder taste amazing with the fluffy shave ice.

100% self serve and no line on a Sunday afternoon. Fast, clean and delicious. Wish they can have smaller size so we can try more favors.

It's a tiny shop from the outside, but a massive interior in the inside! You'll order from a tablet, and they'll call your number for you to pick up your order. We came after a meal, and ordered a chocolate monster sulbing and tiramisu sulbing. We thoroughly enjoyed both of them! The shaved ice is creamy, and they're thoughtfully layered so you'll find another tasty layer as you dig down. For example, the chocolate monster one has ice cream nestled away at the bottom, as well as another layer of cocoa powder. We'll definitely be coming back to try other flavors!

Sulbing in Sulbing Mountain View!!!! finally one closer to me! I've been to the locations in Santa Clara and Cupertino many times, so it's nice not having to drive as far south anymore. I love the setup here. You order at the station when you walk in, and the seating area is right next to it. The space is super clean, spacious, and nicely cooled with strong AC. The injeolmi toast is a must try. If you love mochi, you'll definitely enjoy it. It's a chewy rice cake coated in roasted soybean powder and it's so good. It was also my first time trying matcha at Sulbing. I got the matcha cloudy, and it was perfectly balanced with a sweet foam and rich matcha flavor.

We stopped by for dessert tonight, hoping for a better experience than our first visit to the Santa Clara location. Unfortunately, this Mountain View visit was quite disappointing. We ordered the Mango Cheese Sulbing, and the mango was the biggest letdown--it was hard to tell if it was canned or just unripe, but it certainly wasn't fresh. While the presentation was beautiful and the shaved ice was light, the base lacked that rich, milky flavor we expected, tasting more like a blend of milk and water.

I love sulbing. The service is pretty much non-existent as you just order through a kiosk and pick up, but the seating is clean and the ambiance is bright. I love the strawberry shaved ice and I replace the mochi with ice cream. Perfect cold dessert after malatang.

This place is very interesting. The dessert is meant to be shared as it's huge. We ordered the Tiramisu bowl. It comes with a nice layer of shaved ice, with vanilla flavoring. Cocoa powder. It then came loaded with vanilla ice cream and a large piece of tiramisu. The flavor was not overly sweet and actually pretty tasty. The space itself looks new and spacious.

First time trying binsu and I'm hooked. It's a Korean shaved ice dessert - except it uses frozen milk, making the "ice" have a sweet and creamy taste. We got the classic Injeolmi Bingsu, and it was delicious. The Kinako powder goes really well with the shaved ice, and the mochi pieces added a really nice touch. Would love to go back to try all the other flavours!

Rolled in with friends after dinner looking for something sweet without the usual boba or froyo routine. Sulbing delivered. We split the injeolmi bingsu and the honey butter toast. The injeolmi is the move if you actually like Korean desserts. Mountain of finely shaved milk ice, thick dusting of roasted soybean powder, a proper scoop of red bean on top, and sliced almonds for crunch. Not too sweet, which is the whole point. Melts clean, no icy chunks, no syrupy aftertaste. The honey butter toast is the opposite energy. Thick cut brick of brioche, crisped on the outside, whipped cream piled in the middle, chocolate and caramel going everywhere. Pure chaos in the best way. Get it if you have at least two other people or a very serious sweet tooth. Space is small but clean and well lit, good for catching up without shouting. Service was quick even with a line. If you grew up eating bingsu or you've been to one in Seoul, this holds up. If you haven't, start with the injeolmi and thank me later.

While exploring the German Christmas Marketplace in Mountain View, we came across Sulbing Cafe as we were walking back to our car. When we realized it was a Korean dessert place, we had to stop in. The Subling is a dessert with fine shaved ice top with more ingredients So many desserts and drinks to choose from, customers would put in their order/pay on the kiosk. We ordered the Green Tea Chocolate Subling, Honey Butter Bread, Strawberry Matcha and a Match Cloudy Drink. We seated ourselves, and waited for our number to be called. Everything was huge, delicious and refreshing. It's nice that they offer extra bowls and utensils for sharing. The place is spacious, very clean and simply a great place to hang out. Highly recommend if ever in Mountain view!

I honestly found the prices a bit high. We had the pistachio sulbing, and while I know it's mostly shaved ice, I was expecting more pistachio or chocolate throughout. It's mainly just on top, and once you get past that layer, it's mostly just milky shaved ice. For that reason, it felt expensive for what you're actually eating. I might give it another try on a warmer day and go for one of the fruit options, since those look more generous. We also tried the mozzarella Injeolmi toast. Either I'm not very familiar with this style or it just wasn't anything special -- definitely not something I'd expect to be $9. The space itself is modern and nicely designed, the restrooms were clean, and the service was at a normal pace. As someone who really likes matcha, I didn't enjoy their matcha at all.

Great place to hang out with your friends after dinner. You ordered through the self served kiosk and picked up through the pick up window. There was no service and only one person working behind the counter making the desserts. Paid $20+ for this dessert and they are making a hefty margin on this. :)

I'll preface this review by noting I've not yet tried their bingsu, so I might update this review later. So far, Sulbing Cafe has been a welcome addition to downtown Mountain View, offering unique drinks & desserts in an inviting atmosphere. The interior is well-designed and laid out. There are plenty of seats & tables, the bathrooms are clean & organized, and it's easy to see when your order is ready. There is Wi-Fi so you could come here to work (of course it's best to order something first ;) One quirk is that if dining in, you order through the kiosk, but if ordering to-go, you order at the counter. As far as drinks, I've tried the mocha and cloudy lattes. They are foamy & well-sweetened, though other cafes in downtown offer better espresso drinks. (Though, I don't think they have black sesame or orange lattes.. so could be worth a try here.) Now onto food. The vanilla cookie choux was dense & a bit colder than I anticipated, but still enjoyable. The chocolate croffle and mozzarella injeolmi toast were good but felt a tad overpriced for the quantity. If you're looking for something different in Mountain View, Sulbing Cafe is worth checking out.

For the bingsu, no. But, they have dairy alternatives (ie oat milk) for their coffee and tea drinks.

When we added a hot chocolate with the server, nothing came out after 15 minutes. So I walked in. There were 5 staff behind the counter. 3 were on their smartphones. 2 were joking with each other. When I finally got one of their attention, I asked about the drink. They said it would come out. Kiddo needed to go to the bathroom. Floorboards were rotten and torn on the walk over. Grimy, gross sink with that film on the door that you see in dive bars. We wait 10 minutes. Still no drink. I go back in with the boy and stand over the the barista so that they'd hand us a hot chocolate. Food was good, but with service and ambience like that, might as well go to a Starbucks. The menu will be current, the drinks will come out fast, the bathrooms won't be grimy, and the servers will give you the time of day.

So a few days after returning from an overseas trip, I made a lunch reservation with a friend. Apparently, reservations are required if you want a proper meal experience. At $35 per person for lunch, including tip but excluding drinks and additions, it still seemed like good value. Finding parking during lunch time in downtown Los Altos was surprisingly difficult. There were no spots available on the Main Street, so I had to park in the lot behind the buildings. As I walked inside, I admired the high ceilings, curved alcoves and glass-enclosed dining room by the entrance. The entire space seemed to be illuminated by a central skylight. Aaron is a co-owner of Tal Palo along with his partner, Chef Adriana. He greeted and complimented me on my Mikkeller Taipei t-shirt. Aaron told us he was once the co-owner of an Oakland bar specializing in Belgian ale called The Trappist and subsequently knew Mikkel's brother, Jeppe, who founded Evil Twin Brewery quite well. It was cool to meet a fellow artist and Renaissance man. Fittingly, the beautiful space was largely designed by Aaron. We had our choice of seating. It didn't seem as if there were any two tables and chairs that were alike. Each part of the dining room was unique. There's a really nice patio in the back with a cool huge mural on the wall that is undoubtedly popular during warmer months. We chose a nice broad two top table near the entrance, lit brightly by the skylight above it. Chef Adriana introduced herself and brought by what was essentially an elote muffin, and offered it as an optional appetizer. We took her up on it. It was delicious and buttery with the texture of corn kernels, not simply pureed into a batter. I also ordered a Cafe de Olla, which was pleasantly sweet and blended with cinnamon and spices. She then brought a plate with skillfully prepared green salad. It was then clear that each dish was meant to be shared family-style. The portion-size of each dish is about the size of an individual portion, but there were three dishes included in the lunch course. I could see how this might be an issue for those who eat larger portions, leaving them unsatisfied. Me and my friend don't generally eat a ton, so this was perfectly fine for us. Next up was the highlight of the meal, Chilaquiles Verde. The egg was perfectly fried atop tortilla chips that still had a bit of crispness to them. The tomatillo salsa was a perfect balance of flavor, tanginess, spice and temperature. It was a superb dish that outpaces any chilaquiles that I've been able to find locally, and I've certainly been trying out many for the past six months in search of the best one. I think Chef Adriana's version at Tal Palo may be the winner. There was one more interesting dish remaining: fried quesadillas served with a creamy red beet mole sauce. The quesadillas were light and fluffy, made from masa rather than flour. The beet mole sauce had pine nuts and sesame seeds and several other ingredients blended into it. Very unique and creative rendition unlike any mole I had ever tried. The overall experience at Tal Palo was very unique. There is no set menu, and you are served whatever Chef Adriana has prepared that day. So one needs to approach this restaurant with an open mind and leave preconceptions at the door. As I mentioned earlier, the shared portions might not be enough for people with a higher caloric intake. If these are showstoppers, this is probably not the right place for you. I personally really enjoyed the concept and experience. I look forward to trying their dinner course and going to their workshops for things like making tamales.
