Went in on a Thursday afternoon. There were 3 staff members when I walked in, one customer walking out, and no other customers around. I was standing at the glass for a while before being acknowledged. Someone finally came over, and I asked if the Ube Black Sesame cookie was vegan since the display writing was a bit smudged. The staff member confirmed, so I got that cookie and a Gingersnapperdoodle since I loved it before. I also asked about the Brownie, but did not receive a very helpful reply. My question: Is the brownie very rich? The response: It's like any other brownie. I'm not a fan of chocolate items that are super rich, and some brownies are fudgy, but some are more mild. I'd expect someone working there to be a bit more helpful and descriptive. I ended up not getting a brownie. Lowering my rating because the service was subpar, and the Ube flavor was nonexistent in the Ube Black Sesame cookie. The Gingersnapperdoodle was still yummy like before, but had a more sandy texture than last time. read more

I was very excited to try this bakery because i heard it had a good amount of vegan options! Service was quick. It was an in and out experience. I ended up getting the vegan red velvet cupcake and vegan white chocolate macadamia cookie. The frosting of the cupcake was a bit too sweet for me, but the cake was absolutely delicious! The cookie was very soft and crunchy at the same time. The macadamia nuts was salty. Overall, I would come back to try more other vegan options. read more

If you want a cupcake that's like other cupcakes this is the place to go. You definitely won't tell a difference between a regular or gluten free. Service is good I went in when it was busy. I like being able to see them decorate the cupcakes! It is small and no seating inside but outside seating available 2 tables and a bench. I loved this little shop and their pastries are so good! Since we were new here we asked for recommendations. We ended up getting a chocolate chip cookie, blueberry streusel muffin, and an apple tart (which we ate later that night). The cookie was so good. The base of the cookie was soft and crumbly. The blueberry muffin was just as good! It was soft, moist, and melted in your mouth. Usually gluten free, dairy free and vegan muffins taste dry and sucks up all moisture in your mouth because they are so dry. We were just as surprised with the tart on how good it was! The tart was eaten here and there because it was a bit sweet for us but very good. I can't wait to go back. The staff was so nice and patient with us ordering and answering our questions. I must admit that I still have a knee-jerk reaction of rolling my eyes whenever someone tells me that they are gluten-free (NOT counting those that have Celiac/gluten allergies). However, I will say that one good thing that has come from this movement is the plethora of innovative gluten free bakeries and eateries that serve up tasty products. I first learned about Sweet Diplomacy when my neighbors gave me some cupcakes from here that tasted amazing. When I looked them up, I was surprised to learn that they were in Los Altos as I live nearby and had never heard of them. The shop is very cute and homely and feels as if you are in someone's home kitchen. Although they seem to specialize in cupcakes, they also serve a number of other gluten-free and even vegan items. I should note that this bakery focuses on more desserts (ie cookies, cakes, tarts, etc.) rather than pastries (ie croissants and buns). I never thought that my new favorite go-to bakery would be a gluten-free one. As a Mountain View resident, I must say that it is also nice not to have to trek to Palo Alto in order to get some tasty cupcakes! read more

Location: I didn't go to the storefront but loved that Sweet Diplomacy ships their goodies nationwide! Super convenient as we were planning our Employee Appreciation Event! Pricing: $4.50/cookie sounds like a lot, but when considering that Sweet Diplomacy caters MANY food allergen/sensitivities that is SO difficult to find in baked goods. Worth every penny! Service: As we ordered a large amount of cookies for a special event, we were a little anxious about delivery. We did not receive any shipping confirmation or tracking number until the day before delivery AND we only received it after sending a follow-up email requesting for this information. Communication could improve. We appreciated that each cookie was individually wrapped, however some bags were open and the cookies were exposed to germs/open air. Need to improve quality control.. Also Maybe they should have their logo on the packaging? We printed our own signs to show support to the business. A gluten free bakery? Hooray!!! I don't live very close, but I always try to support gluten free businesses, so I was sure to stop when I was in the neighborhood. Okay where to start! This place was a gluten-free individual's heaven! SO MANY options! The pastries not only looked amazing but TASTED amazing and didn't have that gross gluten-free taste other bakeries have. They have so many tasty treats. Like the cinnamon roll was DIVINE. (But they only do them on Sundays I guess) We also got: ube creme puff, vanilla cupcake, Madeline, vegan brownie and blueberry coffee cake. I practically swallowed the brownie and coffee cake whole, they were so good. The vegan options were equally amazing...that brownie was out of this world good. So rich and dark. (Ok great I'm salivating again) It was a very quaint, cute little shop. The servers were super sweet and kind and patient while I took a whole century to decide. This is a very cute little dedicated gluten free bakery in downtown Los Altos. I arrived at the bakery right when they opened, and was greeted warmly by the staff. Their selection of gluten free and other allergy friendly baked goods was overwhelming! Today I opted for a lemon poppyseed muffin (which I inhaled almost immediately) and an egg custard tart which I am saving for tomorrow. I am super excited to try the tart since I thought I'd never get to eat an egg custard tart again after going gluten free! They also serve delicious flavored lattes. What a special place! We were looking for a vegan birthday cake and a friend recommended Sweet Diplomacy. We learned from the lovely staff that the entire bakery is gluten free and some of the cakes are also vegan. For a non-vegan, non-vegetarian, non-gluten free person, I'll admit was nervous about the taste also being flavor free, grainy, and dry. We brought 2 cupcakes home to try before committing to the full birthday cake and wow... I was severely WRONG! We ordered 3 cakes and everyone in our tough crowd was impressed! I received a box of sugar free, vegan and gluten-free cookies from a friend. The cookies in the package remained intact but 3 individual compostable plastic packaging came apart! Some cookies were exposed to air during transit. After warming the cookies in the oven, they have a crunch to each bite but have a different mouthfeel-grainy texture. This place is to die for! My husband has celiac disease, when he first found out he was so sad because he thought he'd never be able to have cupcakes or pastries again. Enter Sweet Diplomacy! They have a wide variety of delicious gluten-free sweets! My husband loves cupcakes so in this visit, I bought three of the Madagascar vanilla cupcakes, and I absolutely love anything lemon poppyseed so I also grabbed a lemon poppyseed muffin for myself. A dedicated gluten free bakery!!! I had to come try something on pi day, although they didnt have any pies in stock. I got the passionfruit tart and lemon tart instead. Both were oozing with the curd. It's a little too much curd actually. The passionfruit tasted better than the lemon. I also got the okinawa cupcake which is a monthly special. It was absolutely delicious. I loved the matcha flavor and the lychee paired really nicely. Definitely will come back to try the other treats! read more

Simply amazing sweets! Love it all, even their coffee is great. I've tried many things from muffins to tarts.

I am so impressed by how much they're able to produce in such a small space and kitchen!! We got a Los Angeles cupcake and a lemon meringue mini pie. The Los Angeles was a fruit medley frosting on a vanilla cupcake with gold sprinkles on top. I did find the cupcake itself to be a bit dry and the frosting was a really good texture but didn't stay on top of the cupcake. I wasn't able to taste every fruit that was in the description but it was refreshing and not overly sweet. The lemon meringue mini pie has a soft crumbly crust and is the perfect ratio of lemon filling to meringue. If you prefer a more sour lemon flavor then this probably wouldn't be my first recommendation but it's not overly sweet and the meringue has the best texture. I would definitely return to see their seasonal flavors and desserts. Perfect for a little sweet treat while exploring the area. read more

My daughter has more allergies that the normal person and the fact that this place regularly has items on their menu that can accomodate all her allergies is a life saver. Allergens aside, their products are actually really delicious. My daughter loved the red velvet cupcake which was vegan, free of gluten/soy/oats/dairy. My daughter's bday and cannot have gluten products. Found this bakery that is % gluten-free. Service was friendly and fast. Cupcakes were kinda of dry but still tasty. Recommend microwave for 10 sec to moisten it. Icing will melt a little but we didn't mind. However, I did find a piece of plastic in my cupcake after I bitten into it. Found this cute little shop while walking around. While it is cute, I do emphasize that it is small. It is more of a to-go type of place but I don't mind and the staff are very quick. I love that they label all of their allergen friendly desserts too! We got the carrot cake and chocolate cream puff. The carrot cake was delicious. I liked the texture even better than those with gluten. The chocolate cream puff was not as sweet as expected so depending on your sweet tooth you may or may not like it. It did have a generous amount of filling though. My only downside was that the lavender London fog I got was quite watered down. However, that may be partially my fault for ordering it iced. this is a super cute bakery offering gf, vegan, and paleo options! i am none of those things, but came with my friend who's allergic to gluten. it's nice to have a bakery that caters to a wide variety of dietary restrictions. the service was super friendly and quick. the prices are a little on the high side, which is to be expected from a specialty bakery! there isn't seating inside but you can order and sit at the tables or bench outside! it also seems like a lot of folks take out and bring it home. we tried the carrot cake muffin, the blueberry crumble muffin, the special okinawa cupcake (matcha with lychee buttercream), and the tiramisu! my friend didn't really like the blueberry crumble muffin, as she found the texture off-putting (i agree, but can't put my finger on what it is). the carrot cake muffin was better, as it has a lot of carrot throughout, breaking up the texture nicely. i also really enjoyed the crispy coconut & nuts on top! the okinawa cupcake was alright, as the matcha flavor wasn't very strong in the cake part. it was a bit grainy but i didn't mind that. the lychee flavor also wasn't very strong in the buttercream, and i can't help but feel that the flavor combo wasn't ideal? maybe a strawberry or banana flavor would have been more fitting for this cupcake. lastly, we really liked the tiramisu! again i think having more textural elements (layers of cream + ladyfingers) helped with the graininess. it was also a bit dry, so i wish the coffee soak had permeated the ladyfingers more, but i think the moisture from the cream definitely helped. overall, not bad given that everything's gluten free, and in some cases vegan or paleo! i'm not a picky eater and usually not put off by textures, but i do think that some of the baked goods just weren't super pleasant to eat and won't be enjoyed by everyone. additionally, i was disappointed by the lack of flavor in the cupcake! however, i'm more forgiving with the rating, as it's so hard to formulate classic baked goods with these dietary preferences in mind :) would recommend giving it a shot if you're gf, vegan, or paleo (especially the baked goods that have multiple textural elements to break up any graininess/dryness) read more

I'm a bit conflicted about what rating to give Sweet Diplomacy in Palo Alto, but I've decided on five stars because some of the food and beverage items I've had here over the years are certainly five-star worthy. That said, my experiences have been mixed--while some visits have featured wonderful service and truly delicious treats, other times I've been disappointed with both the food and the service to the point where I've simply left. Despite the inconsistency, the high points have kept me coming back, and when everything clicks, it's absolutely worth it. Here's hoping for more of those five-star moments in the future! read more

I went yesterday very excited as I saw all the amazing reviews. Sadly my cupcakes were very dry and weird almost over baked texture. Maybe they were a bad batch or a couple days old. Last year, I was in the fortunate position to have attended the Yelp Elite event that Sweet Diplomacy hosted. It was there that I learned that they make these gorgeous, hand piped rose cupcakes. Fast forward to last month where I wanted to bring cupcakes to my workplace on my last day before starting graduate school, Sweet Diplomacy brought my vision to life. On their website, they have 4 specific color schemes that you can select for the celebration cupcakes. I was set on having the color scheme be blue to match my future school color (go Columbia Lions!). One simple email to Sweet Diplomacy's team and it was easily arranged for me. When I picked up the cupcakes, they were perfect! The team at Sweet Diplomacy had frozen the cupcakes prior to my pick up time so that they can maintain their shape during transportation. It's very thoughtful of them to think of these little details. As you can see from the pictures, they were absolutely gorgeous and they tasted great; the bases were an assortment of chocolate and vanilla. The only minor thing to look out for is that the blue buttercream is truly BLUE like everyone who had a blue cupcake had blue teeth and a blue tongue afterwards. Nothing a napkin and little water can't fix though :) A dozen of these cupcakes cost $90, which really is a steal for the quality and presentation. Overall I'm so glad that Sweet Diplomacy was able to help me celebrate one of the most important milestones in my life! Everyone at my work loved the cupcakes and I was happy to know that they enjoyed them. Thank you Sweet Diplomacy! I love sweet diplomacy for offering very yummy gf and df options. although it has been an expensive it or miss, still 4 stars for what they get right. I LOVE their Lemon poppyseed muffins laced with yummy icing. I honestly didn't care for their cookies at all. some even seemed under baked.. I love the vegan GF cupcakes though! especially the vanilla icing.. they had some rotation of some cherry or raspberry filling .. super yummy. the brownies are meh.. I have been in search of a bakery that offers vegan, gluten-free, dairy-free options and Sweet Diplomacy is pretty much the only option that offers a lot of varieties. Initially, I was looking for a vegan cake for a birthday. Since I was pretty last minute, it was impossible to get a vegan cake in time. Fortunately, Sweet Diplomacy also has vegan cupcakes, so I opted for that instead. I went late on a Sunday to see if I can place a pick-up order for Tuesday morning (they're closed on Mondays). They really went an extra mile to accommodate my request. I ordered all of their vegan cupcake options and all was good. My favorite was the red velvet. The chocolate "New York" was quite rich. Overall, it was hard to tell that it's vegan unless you are sensitive to the texture! All my vegan friends approved of the vegan cupcakes. Would definitely visit again! read more

Stumbled upon sweet Diplomacy and my hubby and I were not disappointed! We first got one lemon poppy muffin, a lavender fog and a bakers mocha? ( can't remember the last one) We sat outside and inhaled our drinks and muffin so fast that I went back in and bought 4 more cupcakes, 2 muffins, 4 lavender scones and another bakers mocha! Im usually on a gluten free diet so im happy I found a great bakery! Not mention they have vegan options are well! The associates here are super sweet and friendly. I was pleased to see their Paleo brownie in the store since I am trying to cut down on sugar. I was pleasantly surprised to see that their brownie costed around $6. Given that, according to the website, it is gluten, dairy, refined sugar, soy, grain, & oat free I expected it to be ridiculously expensive. I took a bite and was so impressed. The brownie was soft and chocolatey. I was craving another one after I was done. There is no seating in the store, it is very small but they have various products on their shelves. Worked back and fourth with designing a custom cake for a special milestone birthday. The person I emailed kindly agreed to try and echo a vision I had for the cake but completely just missed the mark and I was so embarrassed to have presented it, esp after paying $110 for it. The cake itself was ok, the frosting was too sweet bc they overused the amount of monk fruit that should've been used (I am a baker myself and just know a little goes a long way with monk fruit) but the cake itself was nice and moist. Overall it's been a day later and I'm just so so upset with how it all turned out, esp since I had put in my request many weeks in advance. read more
