Best wedding cake that I've ever had was at my own wedding. Thank you Sugar Butter Flour!

Burnt Almond
HanNa P.

The burnt almond cake was good. Went in and the cake was available, didn't need to preorder. It wasn't too sweet actually. Some of the almonds didn't taste fresh though. And the worker was kind of rude, not just to me but also the guy ahead of me. Very small place. It's a grab and go. Private lot in front. Thinking if I want to go back for the tasty cake, but don't want to deal with that older worker again..

4 stars as we overall good experience at the sugar butter flour bakery The customer service was friendly and pretty efficient and they package things fairly quickly . - 1 star because the person at the front packing the cakes was coughing and didn't have a mask on. The cakes themselves were good. I do wish they had a sign listing the fruit in each cake; they do have overall labes but I don't recall the black forest cake having indication that it included cherries. I got the Black Forest cake slice thinking it was just chocolate, but it had cherries in it (which is probably on me for not knowing) and it was not my thing, though my husband loved it. We also tried a slice of the guava cake, which my husband really enjoyed, and I thought it was fairly decent (I'm pretty picky when it comes to fruit cakes). The pastries are very rich and on the sweeter side. Personally, I wish they were a bit less sweet, I think that would take them from good to exceptional. Overall, good it's a solid bakery, just a few small things that could make the experience even better Interior is cozy and welcoming, and there's plenty of parking outside

We have been coming here for about 13 years for all our special occasion desserts. We stopped by yesterday for some little cakes and treats for my birthday. All their cakes are displayed in pastry cases and they have some custom cake replicas on the wall. They offer a variety of cakes that are already made or you can make a custom order. The owner is very sweet and helpful. Our favorites here, that I picked out, are the opera cake, the princess cake, hazelnut nut chocolate cake and burnt almond cake. They are all so good. Nice thing is, is that they have slices and smaller versions of these cakes. That way you can get a variety. Their cakes are always fresh and delicious. We will be enjoying these for the next few days.

This place is divine for any cakes - I have tired orange dark chocolate, burnt almond, hazelnut chocolate mousse - yum yum yum! Sure friendly staff - especially Mahati and Nicola. Small place in a strip mall - not much place to sit around. I want to go try their croissants and coffee now :)

HOLY CRAP! This is a new bakery for me but they absolutely killed it. We had a birthday party for our best Irish friends for 50 friends. This cake not only looked amazing but tasted even better.

Cheesecake from SBF

When I selected the large cheesecake I asked the guy working there if there was someone to write out a "birthday message". This implies I had a custom message. I was NEVER offered a pen and paper. Figuring I had to pay for the cake first, I was trying to get the card reader to charge my card while, unbeknownst to me, the dude was already scribbling "Happy Birthday" in big letters. When I finished the transaction, he showed me his handiwork. Shocked and upset, I said I had a name to add. He said he could "squeeze" it at the bottom. I knew what that would look like-- in that handwriting in the tiny leftover space he pointed to. If people are going to spend $70 for a cake, PLEASE have personnel that can do a decent job. Now I know I can't depend on this bakery to deliver quality service. This whole exchange was totally unprofessional. Then we ate the cheesecake. The overall texture was dry and the flavor-- tasteless, as if it were a few days old. Buyer beware and look closely at the strawberries on top.

Such a sweet experience trying out different cake flavors for an event. I'm all about customer service and Morjan was amazing at hosting us. I can tell you their coffee and fruit flavors were delicious! Lots of assortment and customizations. But what I really need to try, is their burnt almond.

I was looking for a chocolate cake with strawberries for my friend's 30th birthday and came across the perfect bakery that has it on the menu! I found this bakery same week and the ordering process was seamless. I ordered it online and picked it up a few days later. I think you could even do the next day if you wanted to! I had someone else pick up the cake at the bakery with no problems :)

Twice Baked Cheesecake (mini version)

I've always been curious about this place and I'm glad I finally got to try it. I was able to place an order online for a strawberry short cake. It was good! The strawberries were fresh and I like the custard. The outside of it has bars of white chocolate which was good but too sweet for me. I also tried a mini version of their cheesecake and famous burnt almond cake. My boyfriend liked the cheesecake but I liked the almond cake more. The almond cake was also too sweet for me so I couldn't eat it all in one sitting. When you go inside, they do have some cakes, cookies, and pastries on display if you need to walk in and buy something. The customer service was nice and she guided me on what to order since it was my first time.

Carrot cake - but mostly just frosting...
Cheryl S.

I used to be a big fan of this bakery and had ordered my daughter's 1st birthday (2-tier fondant burnt almond) cake back in 2018. I ordered my daughter's 8th birthday cake (6in round carrot cake) this weekend and was pretty disappointed with the quality. Thick layers of frosting and very thin layers of actual carrot cake. The cake did not taste very good and everyone ended up throwing away half the slice because it was all frosting.

Sister bakery to my favorite bakery in the bay- La Patisserie in Cupertino. We were in the area and decided to pick up some individual size burnt almond cakes. We really love their burnt almond cakes. It has a strong and flavorful almond taste. We love that they add in a thin layer of chocolate cake and the custard is what seals the deal. Everything together can make it super sweet but we seem to like it. We got at La Patisserie and heard SBF has the same thing. It's our favorite Burnt Almond Cake! We think it beats Peter's Bakery too. Peter is the original but I feel it's super light and at times tasteless and dry. It's the only the cream that makes it. Huge fan of their cakes!

I ordered from this establishment via DoorDash.. sitting across the country in cold Kentucky... because I wanted to send something sweet to a sweet friend. Randomly Googled dessert places in and around Palo Alto, came across this bakery with almost perfect reviews. So I took a chance. Considering that it was a Sunday and just a few hrs before their closing, the online selection was decent if not great. I got some pastries doordash-ed within 30 mins! And I just heard from my friend that the pastries were delectable! Btw, I must add that they looked yummy in photos Now I'm looking forward to visiting this bakery on my next visit to SF. The place was situated in a quiet plaza just outside of Lawrence Expressway. There's ample parking but it doesn't feel like the location is suitable for a cafe where you can picture sitting inside looking through some big windows facing a busy pedestrian walkway. However, once I stepped inside, I was surprised at how zen and peaceful the decorations were and how fitting it was for a cozy and quiet cafe hangout. The cake shelf was surprisingly busy. And this is where I took one star out because the lines were confusing and the staff skipped me to talk to the group behind me while I was clearly the next to be helped. Luckily another staff member came out from the back kitchen and jumped in to help. The staff spoke fluent mandarin. I was interested in their box cakes. A few of the yelpers raved about their soy milk cake and luckily they had one out for sampling. It was covered with lots of cream and the cake layer was soft and moist, but it was still slightly too sweet for me and I felt that it lacked the tofu kind of soy flavor. Then, I spotted on their menu that they have a black sesame matcha box cake, and black sesame is always my favorite, so I asked for it. They had the last one left! The staff said she had never tried it so she couldn't tell me if it is less sweet than the soy milk cake. Since it was the last one available and I already sampled the soy cake, I decided to give it a try. I am happy that I did. The cake was filled with matcha mousse and tasted light and aromatic with the jasmine kind of matcha flavor. It is definitely less sweet. Unfortunately, it doesn't have as much black sesame as I'd like. But overall, the cake flavor is the kind that I like, subtle, moist, and not too sweet. $38 for a box cake of 4x4 is a bit pricey, but I'm glad that I gave it a try. The cakes were freshly made and tasted best the same day of purchase. They also recommend refrigerating the cake and consuming it within a day or two.

My review is based solely on the preorder and pickup experience for the seasonal persimmon…read moredesserts. I kept seeing posts about whaT's More cake's persimmon cakes, so I decided to give them a try. I preordered the persimmon molten cake and the persimmon crepe cake through their website. The online ordering process was smooth, and both cakes were ready right on time for pickup. Unfortunately, the persimmon molten cake was disappointing. While I appreciated that it wasn't overly sweet, it was very mild in flavor. It tasted more like a simple sponge cake with a persimmon filling in the center, and overall, it felt quite underwhelming. In contrast, the persimmon crepe cake was much better. Each layer had persimmon cream and jam, which gave it a stronger and more pronounced persimmon flavor without being overly sweet. Overall, it's a cute cake shop worth checking out if you're looking for unique flavors in the South Bay. Parking: Plenty of parking available in the lot.

I wished it had more toppings or something inside that was sweeter, but mostly it just tasted like chalky cocoa powder. Not very sweet and not in a good way. I usually wouldn't get this flavor and would get fruit so maybe that makes the difference. Was it the worst? No. The shave ice part was delicate and the portion was what you would expect. But I wouldn't attempt any chocolate ones again if I did come back here. It's lacking something. As for the inside, it's a spacious place with plenty of seating which is nice, although the music feels a little loud. The service is pretty straight forward here as you can order from a kiosk or up front, and there are screens that show which order number is finished around the restaurant. The bathroom was clean. Overall, wouldn't say it's bad but I'm not sure if I can recommend.

Is Izumi matcha worth the hype?…read more I have been to Izumi matcha over ten times at this point and remember first trying it in their original location in the silver creek area of San Jose before the matcha boom. Prior this place was unique and delicious, and really hit a spot. I believe that now with the various matcha spots around, it may not have as much as of unique selling point. Their tornado matcha is good and sweet, and is a great dessert however in my personal opinion, their traditional drinks are not standouts. Last week I went with a friend and ordered a matcha oat latte with a double shot, and while I tasted the matcha, it was grainy and didn't really have any depth. I wouldn't say I would avoid going here, for a matcha option and to get caffeinated for the day. It is still an option but I feel like it wouldn't be fair to say it's worth driving over 30+ minutes here. As a note too, this location can get extremely busy in terms of parking! The plaza is popping with heavy hitters. Service was fine as they do the self service kiosk with pick up being less than 5 minutes (no big lines), and the store itself is small with no seating outside but plenty of plaza seating outside.
