    Banana Cake Slice
    Lily D.

Icing on the Cake is great for people who enjoy classic American style cakes and cupcakes! So think of sweet, rich, and decadent icing. Their popular items - the banana and almond cupcakes sell out quickly, so the front desk recommended to call ahead. I tried their banana cake since it's one of the things they're best known for. It was fluffy, moist, buttery, and didn't have a weird artificial taste. This tasted more like banana bread with added cream cheese frosting, but still very good. Their cookies were also popular because the selection was almost gone. Perhaps I came on a Saturday early evening. My only issue were the cake slices were wrapped in plastic wrap. The frosting clinging onto the wrap made it messy and threw off the cake/frosting ratio. I hope they find a better way to package slices because wrapping baked goods with plastic wrap looks bit tacky. Overall, I like their desserts aren't overly fancy, but still have that cute touch. They have that fresh, homemade quality, and it's nice to know this is a Los Gatos specialty!

I wanted a cake for my birthday and this is the only place I wanted to get a cake from. Thankfully they still had a small 6inch banana cake..They were also able to write happy birthday on it for me. For being a busy place, they all worked so fast to help everyone. The staff was very kind to my toddler as well. She was very excited to be in new bakery. She was fascinated by all the decorations and items for sale. If you want interesting gifts for someone this is your one stop shop. As for the cake, it was hit at my birthday dinner.

As soon as you walk in, you'll be hit with the incredible scents of freshly baked goods. You'll see a sea of greeting cards and cute knick knacks available for purchase. Everything in the store is very cutesy and colorful. If you look to the right you will see a ticketing system similar to those in a deli. Its not clear if you still need to wait in line if you've preordered and prepaid for a cake but I did anyway. Service was ok. I asked someone if I needed to wait in line if I had already purchased a cake over the phone. The worker said she didn't know the answer. I also asked that same worker for help because the numbering system was stuck and I wasn't able to pull a number. The worker had the same response of not knowing how to fix the number dispenser. When I came to pick up my cake on a busy Sunday morning, I was pretty disappointed by the result. None of the directions I asked for were correct but I guess all that really matters is the taste. But more on that later. I requested for " a smiski bit older" in small green colored font at the lower bottom half of the cake with no piped frosting decor, just simple style. They wrote down about half of what I asked for on their invoice receipt so the cake was not at all what I was expecting. Instead they wrote the letters in big font across the middle of the cake so my plan to put smiski figurines on top of the cake was ruined. Banana cake with cream cheese frosting- The banana cake was more of the crumbly side- similar to a loaf or banana bread. I do wish it was more moist and spongy like in consistency like a normal cake. The frosting was sweet, more sugar forward than cream cheese. The cake held up well even after 3 days without getting too dry. We enjoyed the cake per the instructions of letting it get to room temperature for one hour. The banana cake itself was good- not mind blowing but a decent option when Asian flavor cakes get a bit repetitive. I wouldn't expect too much from the custom designs here.

Banana cake was sadly dry and crumbled into many pieces when cut.

IOC reached out and apologized for the cake quality. However, they noted cake consistency can change from time to time as the banana composition changes from shipment to shipment. The manager said she would look into QC and thanked me for bringing this to their attention. They offered bakery credits but that wasn't necessary or accepted. I just wanted them to know and hopefully address my valid concern. Bumping up my review to 4 stars, I appreciate the follow-up nothing is perfect. I'll continue to frequent this spot. Some of the best sweet treats in the South Bay.

12/12/25 This is one of the better bakeries out there. We've only had the pleasure of having the banana cake and it's really really good. I would say try to serve it room temp and not right out of the fridge. The frosting is a little sweet but paired with a good hot cup of coffee, it's perfect! The banana cake is moist and just the right sweetness. We like a simple cake although they offer you different decor options.

For years, I've gotten to enjoy the delicious Icing on the Cake banana cake at birthdays, baby showers and gatherings thanks to my South Bay gal pals. But, I finally got to have the full in store experience and WOW was it baked good heaven! The banana cake is just such a winner, but I didn't realize how many delicious goodies they have here! We were heading up to a friend's house and wanted to be able to bring a bunch of treats to share. We got a few different cupcakes, some banana cake (of course) and the most delicious chocolate espresso cookie! They can do no wrong. Everything was so delicious and honestly, the hardest part was just having to make a decision about what to buy. Besides their baked goods, they also have a ton of cute little items to buy in the store that make getting a gift and treat easy to do at the same time!

Hands down the best banana cake in town. Perfectly moist with incredible banana flavor--not too sweet, just right. I'm especially lucky that I get to enjoy it once a year on my birthday, which makes it even more special. Just a heads-up: they're closed on Sundays and Mondays, so plan accordingly!

Not much inventory so make sure you call ahead. Still my go-to for ordering vegan cakes for family members. Sadly every time I've gone into the store, even early am, their dessert case is sparse. This past Saturday only a few items remained. I was super bummed because I've been telling my boyfriend all about icing on the cake & wanted to get some treats after our walk and made a special trip. I've never seen it that bare, even during holidays. So you'll want to order your cakes. Maybe new ownership is figuring out inventory levels. Times are tough too!

This bakery is definitely TOPS in my book. I recently ordered a Chunky Carrot Cake for my Sister's Birthday and it turned out simply perfect and moist and delicious. The Baker definitely knows their baking spices!!! This bakery has quite the assorted baked goods!!! You'll find squares of delicious cakes, fancy cupcakes and a variety of cookies, there has never been a time this place has disappointed. Service is excellent, a very well oiled machine. A must visit if you're ever in downtown Los Gatos.

Lucy helped me today and she's very nice! I found a gluten-free wheat free chocolate macaroon that is delicious! The store is so adorable and they have a lot of Christmas treats and greeting cards. They will also make any type of cake, wheat, free or gluten-free and dairy free as well so come in here and order your birthday cakes for yourself and friends too! They make dog treats as well

OMG! I think I found my new favorite bakery. Such a cute ambiance as you walk in! And the variety will take your breath away. At least it did for me. There is so much to choose from and all of it looks good. You might have paralysis of choice with so many options that seem so worthwhile. What a gem! Ever since our favorite cupcake bakery closed down I have hunted far and wide for something even resembling it and I think I finally found it. Might even surpass it as best EVER! And that's saying quite a bit. FOOD: OMG! So much good stuff. We tried a couple of cookies (Snickerdoodle and Triple Chocolate - both delicious. They do snickerdoodles the way they are supposed to be done. Triple Chocolate was a little bit dry but I just like them with a bit more softness but still delicious - I'd order it again). We also tried the cupcakes (I had the basic chocolate on chocolate). OMG! So delicious!!! How many times will I say OMG in this review? I have to come back to try all the rest! SERVICE: OMG! Could the SERVICE actually be better than the baked goods? I was so touched by the awesome and patient and kind service that I would come back (probably) even if it wasn't good. But it was good so the amazing service was the "icing on the cake." COST: Very reasonable for the quality of the product. It's not the cost that will stop you from buying more - it'll be the huge amount you've already bought that you can't possibly eat. Coming back for sure.

    OUR FAVE!

What a charming bakery! As soon as you walk in you notice how nicely organized and decorated the store is. There's so much to see in the store while you decide what to indulge in. With such a vast array of options, we're already planning our return visit. The service was exceptionally friendly and accommodating, answering all our questions with a smile. We inquired about the difference between the banana cake and the banana cupcake. They explained that both use the same recipe, but the cupcake has more cream cheese frosting. We opted for the cake, which, while not as fresh as we'd hoped, still tasted amazing. The true star of our visit was the Peanut Butter Cream Pie! WOW! Bursting with flavors and incredibly rich, it pairs perfectly with a cup of coffee or milk. This was undoubtedly the highlight of our order!

Wheat free (gluten free) banana chocolate chip loaf! Love it

Ooo wow!! Love their wheat free (gluten free)! Big kidos - tried their and fav are banana bred chocolates chip, almond poppy seed, pumpkin loaf/slice. Plus really like their banana cup cake (wow real banana- no synthetic tasting like others)! Have yet to try choc cup cake. FYI.. love it has real bananas in it and tons of chocolate chips (not too too much - just right!

Which isn't to say this place is cheap; like many artisanal bakeries in California, it comes with a premium price tag, but at least it's not Dominique Ansel pricy. Croissante's croissant dough baked goods (viennoiserie) is pun-intended "proof" that you get what you pay for. The dining space is limited and lively. Excellent amount of crispy kataifi filling with pistachio butter cream. Pricey slices but it's nice to have a sweet treat every now and then. Staff is nice and courteous. They have indoor seating to enjoy the desserts and drinks. Cute little space. No outside food/drinks allowed.
