I had a very disappointing and uncomfortable experience at Lele Cafe in San Jose today.I was sitting outside with my wife when another customer came up to us and rudely told us to get up and move because he claimed he had "reserved" the seat by leaving cutlery there. There was no cutlery on the table when we sat down. We absolutely did not remove anything. Still, he accused us of moving it and made the situation unnecessarily uncomfortable. To avoid creating a scene, we moved. After sitting nearby, I calmly told him that I was with my family and that he could have handled the situation politely instead of making accusations. His response was rude and dismissive, basically telling me not to bring it up again. I then went inside and explained the situation to the owner/manager. She admitted that she was the one who had cleared the cutlery, which means the other customer was completely wrong to accuse us. My expectation was that she would at least acknowledge this properly or tell the customer that we had done nothing wrong. Instead, she admitted and did nothing. On top of that, our order was just sitting there waiting, and no one even announced our name or made a proper effort to let us know it was ready. So not only was the customer experience handled poorly, but the basic service was lacking too. That was the most disappointing part. Customers should not be made to feel disrespected or falsely accused, especially when the staff knows what actually happened. A simple clarification from the owner could have prevented the whole situation from escalating and could have made us feel respected. A cute cafe find in Los Gatos! I had a rather mixed experience here.. here goes: What I liked: 1. Ambience (think cute, aesthetic, fresh, lot of greenery) 2. bakery items (tried "Napoleon" (a layered puff pastry cake with cream - delicious!) 3. And yes - coffee (tried latte and lavender latte)! Also, they have lots of option for bakery items, I will definitely be visiting again to try more. What I didn't like/could be improved: 1. Raspberry brownie (this was okay-ish, nothing great) 2. The staff: I usually don't give bad reviews/comments unless something is really off-putting. First, the attitude while taking the order was rather rude. Unfortunately, if you are in the restaurant business, greeting customers warmly should be somewhere pretty high up in your job duties. I asked her about the pastry display on the side which had an array of some of the most exquisite pastries and whether I could order from there, she was quite standoffish in her answer, and that really made me not feeling like ordering anything from her. Thankfully, it was another person who handed me my coffee and pastry order that I did end up getting thanks to no help to the previous person. This won't be a detailed review because I don't want to mislabel these mousse cakes and spread incorrect information! But these were given to me by my wife for Valentine's Day and as you can see they're beautiful! Very light (like not filling, in a good way), not super sweet - kind of like a relatively guilt-free refined dessert with creative flavors. Great for special occasions or if you like to treat yourself because you just really like yourself, which is great. As you can see, there are different layers and compositions within these cakes. Some are mostly mousse and have sharper/tarter flavors, some are more cakey and are more subtle. But I enjoyed all of them a lot. We've also eaten here before, both pastry type items and lunch. This is just a nice locally owned cafe where you can get elevated quality food and desserts in a casual environment for a fair price. Their restaurant, Lele Kitchen, is superb and we've had a few special occasions there. Highly recommend that as well. read more

Gorgeous cafe, gorgeous food. I was attracted to this spot because I love light brunches, and it can be hard to find in a world that prefers heavy potato + cheese + meats in the morning! I loved the prosciutto and pear toast and the crepe with salmon. Yes, it is a bit pricey here. Luckily, the food is good enough that I won't complain about it. My party was the only Asian group there, and we were told to get our drinks at the front, despite the parties sitting next to us getting served their drinks at their tables. I had been to Lelé Cake and Lelé Kitchen many times. I loved everything they offered and was never disappointed. While I was too late to make a reservation at Lelé Kitchen before they're completely booked for Valentine's Day this year, I pre-ordered the Hearts Mousse Cakes (set of 4) from Lelé Cake for pickup yesterday. I arrived around 3pm, and they're very busy. I didn't mind waiting in line, though, as I could look at their decorations and various cakes/cookies. Their Valentine's Day decorations and cakes were beautiful. The 4 mousse cakes were just phenomenal (inside and outside)! Each of them had very unique and delightful flavors: . rich chocolate with tangy cherry . luscious pistachio with sweet strawberry . decadent chocolate apricot infused with aromatic Earl Grey tea . creamy raspberry & strawberry yogurt They're all so sophisticated, delicious, and only slightly sweet. The staff is kind, friendly, and welcoming -- Anya is sweet and attentive, Galina is very responsible and caring, the girl with the gorgeous curly hair is always warm and kind, and Alejandro is always friendly, welcoming, and brings great energy to the place. You can really feel that Elena, the owner, puts her heart into this place -- fresh flowers, beautiful decorations, and a cozy atmosphere that makes it feel special. The food is always fresh and delicious. My favorites are the salmon toast, shakshuka, syrniki, draniki, buckwheat with poached egg and parmesan, and the Basque cheesecake -- all amazing. The restaurant aspect is a bit odd, because there's no menus posted or any indication they have anything other that coffee drinks and pastries, until you make it to the front of the line and ask, to then have to get back out of line to look at their menu. Even when I asked if they served lunch there, they said, "Yes, but they are closed next door until 5pm. It's dinner only", referring to "Lele Kitchen" next door...so if I didn't already know I was there to order a waffle, I would have left, confused, assuming they only had food at dinner, at their restaurant next door. I ordered their gruyere waffle (which could have used a touch more seasoning), with "sun dried" tomatoes (which seemed more like roasted/blistered than any sun dried tomato I've ever had), a "soft egg" (that was very over-cooked and had no runny yolk), and a large, thick smear of crème fraîche that wasn't listed in the description of the item despite having the strongest flavor on the plate. read more

I've been going to this place since they opened and the quality of their food and drinks has stayed high to this day! There are definitely items on their menu I prefer, their savory waffles and toasts are delicious. I'm not a big meringue fan so I skip those, but their tarts and basque cheesecake are very tasty. I love their drinks as well. My favorite touch are the flower petals they dust on their waffles. It just gets me every time Earlier on they would get drink orders wrong but that isn't an issue anymore. Service has always been kind. I love working here, or dropping by on a day when I'm running errands locally whenever I can. I love how aesthetic the place is, they change their decorations for each holiday. The restroom is always clean and though I don't have kids and don't plan on ever having them, I love that it's clearly child friendly. I really like the food at Lele Cafe -it is genuinely very good, and that is the only reason I kept coming back. However, the service is very disappointing and inconsistent. The communication with the staff felt confusing and unprofessional. At first, I was directly told that they do not speak Russian, so I immediately switched to English. But shortly after, I clearly heard the same staff speaking Russian among themselves. On top of that, I also noticed them speaking Russian with other guests, while I was told they "don't speak Russian" when interacting with me. This was very confusing and honestly felt strange and selective. This kind of inconsistency creates a very uncomfortable impression and feels disrespectful as a customer. I also know many people who no longer come to this café because of the rude and unwelcoming attitude of the staff. Unfortunately, I now feel the same. I will not be returning. I visited Lele Cake with my son this past Saturday, and we absolutely fell in love with this place. The moment you walk in, it feels like an intimate, elegant French-style bakery -- classy, warm, and so inviting. You can tell they use great ingredients and make everything with care. We ordered the salmon and cream cheese crepe, a brown sugar miso latte, and my son had the chocolate éclair. We arrived right when they opened this morning. The bakery cases were all full and looked delicious. We ordered the Gruyère waffles, power bowl, Shakshuka, an Ube latte, regular latte, and two pastries. Service was excellent as usual. They did not have the onion marmalade for the waffles so I chose avocado to go with it. It was delicious. The shashuka was hot and spicy. Very good! My husband enjoyed the power bowl. The lattes were very good. We both enjoyed the lime basil tart and the medovik. Leek cakes is a true gem. The inside is set up so cute with plenty of seating options. Raise the prices more if you must, but please don't skimp. Cappuccino was so-so. Way too milky. Yogurt parfait: the granola was rock hard & gross. I crunched something hard on the granola. I have no idea what it was. The berries tasted bitter and they put just a little bit of yogurt so basically the yogurt didn't cover it and it was just mostly granola with bitter berries, lol. Truthfully, I have had way better at home. I get good granola from Whole Foods and berries and Greek yogurt. Even my homemade granola surpasses this and I don't do much. Why did I waste $14 on this, which was over $20 for a cappuccino and yogurt parfait. It's mostly high school/college kids working there. So I keep that in mind. It's not their fault. The server gave me a little bit of yogurt, which I appreciated hence the other star. Nevertheless, I keep working class families in mind and their hard-earned dollars are better spent elsewhere. The crepe itself was meh...nothing special...just a single, normal crepe piled on the plate with a few pieces of cold, tasteless salmon, a drop of sour creme and these huge caper berries that I had to lift with my hand to eat. Rosti with marinated cucumbers and salmon - the combination of the rosti, sour cream and salmon in a single bite was amazing. The quality of the individual components was great too. I first went to Lele Cake when they opened a few years ago. I thought it was such a beautiful space and I loved how it was child friendly. It had been a while since I visited but recently I went with a girlfriend, and I remembered how much I like the cafe! How adorable is this place?! It's such a cozy little cafe with the cutest aesthetics and decor. I ended up getting the most dense, gorgeous-looking tropical cheesecake, literally the only whole cake they had left, and I totally lucked out. The white chocolate matcha looked absolutely promising, definitely first on my list for next time. Honestly, the whole menu looked amazing. Ambiance-- place was packed! super cute decor, clean and nice, no complaints here except that some of the tables can be a tiny bit cramped. A relative referred this local cafe in our neighborhood. They have good business and crowded on weekend. Unique cafe menu such as Ube latte, Gibraltar. Healthy breakfast or brunch menu too. It is a bit pricey as I spent $50 breakfast for two. We only ordered two entrees and two lattes. They taste good though. Portion was delicate. They were quite busy on weekend with limited indoor and outdoor tables. It is not Bill's Cafe in comparison on the menu selection or portion. It was super crowded when we were there, and we just got coffees, which were TINY and kind of expensive for how small they were. The staff seemed a little rush because of the crowd, the desserts looked interesting but we just did not have time to sit and try any. Will probably go back and try a few. the place is very nice and looked well cared for and clean. Came here after a friend recommended it. We came just for dessert after getting lunch. My toddler picked out a chocolate dessert with raspberries. I can't remember the name of it. It was delicious and not that sweet. It almost was like a marshmallow with cake on the bottom. By itself the cake was a little dry so its best to eat it all together. I got the merengue cake. It was very sweet maybe a little too sweet for one person but great to share. I liked the decor but the tables got filled up fast. I can see it might feel a little cramped. Haven't been here in a while but if I'm in the Los Gatos area, Lele is the place to go. A little on the pricy side but understandable considering the location. Great coffee, great food options and really nice pastries. Plenty of parking too. Note that this is a place that many come with their kids so take that into account, depends on the time of day at may be crowded and little noisy.
