    Chicken Fried Waffle

We popped into here before a long drive, and had every intention of stuffing ourselves. We were super successful- the food was amazing! I got the Los Gatos Lu (southern fried chicken over biscuits and gravy) and ate the entire thing with zero regrets. It was delicious. My boyfriend got the chicken fried waffle and he absolutely loved it- there was huge chunks of fried chicken in the waffle. It's exactly what he pictured! We also had plain coffee, and it was delicious coffee. Not sure what kind it was but yum!

My boyfriend and I stumbled upon this place a few weeks ago and have already been back again because we enjoyed it so much! Overall, this is a very good breakfast / brunch spot, and well worth the driving over from the South Bay. First, I truly think there's something for everyone here, as Southern Kitchen has an expansive menu of both Southern-traditional, other savory and sweet options, and even substitutions. I've really enjoyed (and devoured) the eggs benedict with chorizo; the chorizo is house made, it's flavorful and a little greasy (which I like), and they don't skimp! I also like that this comes with avocado, and the eggs have been perfectly runny. I've ordered my entree with country potatoes both times, and they were inconsistent but not necessarily bad--one time they were more on the crispy side, and this last time they were just soft. My boyfriend ordered pancakes the first time, and fried chicken / biscuits the second time. He loved the big, fluffy pancakes, but the fried chicken missed the mark a bit. The biscuits were delicious and fluffy, but the dish seemed a little short on gravy, and he did not love that the chicken was bone-in (it was very little fried chicken by the time he worked around the bone). As for ambiance, both the indoor and outdoor seating feels a little close to other people, but we also appreciate that this feels like a smaller, friendly neighborhood restaurant. Lastly, we had great service one time and very slow service the next time, but they were completely full on a Sunday, so that's understandable. We look forward to another visit in the near future!

Great location in downtown Los Gatos Came in mid week, for late brunch. Had some ice tea and tried the chicken waffles for the first time in my life. It definitely covers breakfast lunch and might even dinner. Huge portion, I've asked the gravy on the side as I wasn't sure about it, indeed I didn't like it much. My server was really nice and it wasn't busy so food came out really quick. Only problem was all the yellow jacket bees which was kinda annoying but not much to be done about it

Ambience was a little cramped during lunch rush, but the food was exemplary. Best fried chicken I've had in a long time, and the Cole slaw was wonderfully flavorful. Server was quick and friendly. Gave her a nice tip because she earned it! Definitely going back.

I had the perfect huevos rancheros, today. Eggs a perfect over medium on top of crispy corn tortillas. A nice layer of refried beans and chorizo coating the tortillas. Fresh salsa and avocado slices with a sprinkle of cheese to round it off. Hash browns were nice and crispy and Pam kept my mason jar cup of iced tea full. Great way to start off the day!

(Tom Cruise voiceover) The vibe is warm Southern hospitality right here smack dab in Los Gatos! Pam warmly greeted us! She is fab! Cold press juices! Wow! Cappucino avec quatre shots! Perfect! Veggie Benedict! Healthy! Corn Beef Hash w/ Poached Eggs! Exquisite! And bien sûr le Frickles! It's why I'm here! Satisfying! And prochainment le Fried Green Tomatoes! Would order everything again! Thanks, Pam! Woohoo!

Friendly staff and very accommodating to our rather large party. I had the breakfast of champions and it was a good amount. Fluffy pancake, thick bacon. However I asked for over-well eggs and it was runny. Vanilla latte was okay. I'd come back here for some breakfast.

Southern-style diner with breakfast food. I got the Southern omelette, which was pretty good, but the hash browns didn't taste like much. I really liked the coffee cake, which reminded me of a churro. The grits also had very little taste.

Great food and good service. What we order, and rating: Drinks: -matcha latte 3.5/5: good drink a bit bitter, but i added a bit sugar. -vanilla chai 4/5: taste like christmas Food: -meat lovers with pancake 4/5: relly good, just wish the omelette was a bit bigger. -chicken and waffle 5/5: chicken is inside the waffle. Waffle tasted like a funnel cake. Delish! Overall, will go there again. Only problem is finding parking.

Post-Wedding Brunch Vibes & Coffee Cake Worth the Hype.... We went to Sarah's Southern Kitchen today at 10am to meet up with my little brother before driving back to Sacramento. We were in town for a wedding last night and needed one last good meal before hitting the road. No reservation, but we were seated quickly inside. The place is cozy but definitely loud--lots of energy. I had their signature shrimp and grits, which were good but needed more salt and that little extra something. Even my boyfriend--who's from New Orleans--agreed. He ordered the huevos rancheros with housemade chorizo and it was amazing. I ended up stealing a good chunk of it. My brother went all in with French toast and the Champion's Breakfast, a classic all-American plate. We wrapped it all up by sharing the blueberry coffee cake, which was hands down the best part--moist, flavorful, and served with real butter on the side. That little touch made it. Service was great, but dishes came out one by one, so we waited for everything to arrive before eating. That meant some food cooled down by the time we all dug in--not ideal, but not a dealbreaker either. #PostWeddingBrunch #ChorizoWins #CoffeeCakeCravings #LoudButWorthIt #SaturdayFuel

I am back in Los Gatos and came here for breakfast but it was so crowded and usually worth the wait. . I have eaten here several times and it's pretty good for Southern food. Grits are gluten-free and everything else is pretty good

Since we had a large group, there was a bit of a wait for us to get a table which was understandable. However, it took an extremely long time to get our food, over 30 minutes which was not worth it especially since others who came after us got their food before us. I really enjoyed the breakfast burrito, it was great along with the sauce, and the hash browns were very plain. In my opinion, the food was good but it was very pricey.

Super yummy and comforting breakfast. We stopped by for a brunch date before visiting monterey aquarium. Service was super fast and the servers were very sweet. I love love grits. The sausage had a tasty smokey flavor and was perfectly cooked. The decorations are very warm and comforting with a classic diner feel.

I'm so excited. I just heard that you serve gluten-free pancakes. Is this true?

    Yes we do!

    Do they take reservations?

Not that I know of. Put your name on the list. Before 8 am you should have no wait.

Is your oatmeal steel cut oats and is it made with water or made with milk?

Hello Laraine, our out meal is the old fashioned kind and is made with water.

Will you be open on Christmas Eve for brunch?

    Yes we are! From 7-2.

Is this still located in Los Gatos? The covid 19 update says it is moving to Rocklin, CA?

Yes, we are still in Los Gatos. You can give us a call or check our website! Thank you

Is outdoor dining still an option?

    Yes it is!

Do you serve gluten free options?

Probably! But u gotta ask them

Is it crowded on weekday mornings around 9 or 10?

When we go in around 9am on a weekday, we are always seated practically right away.

Is it possible to order the fried chicken on top of pancakes or French toast?

I've always found them to be accommodating with special requests.

    Is there a parking lot?

There is a large underground parking garage nearby as well as street parking. Parking can indeed be challenging in Los Gatos at lunch and dinner time.

    Is it open on Easter?

    Yes we are

    Ok for dogs?

We have 2 2 tops for dog owners out front

I appreciated the bartender allowing me to try the citrus beer first before ordering it - it was good, but maybe not full pint good. She said that some people don't care for it and it was better for me to try it first. I ended up ordering an IPA, one of the most popular apparently. Anyway, great service there. The Brussel sprouts off the main menu were very good and reasonably priced, nicely roasted and flavored. Generous portion. We ordered the rest of the items off the Happy Hour menu as we wanted to sample a lot of smaller items to get a sense of the breadth of their menu. Everything was good! The corned beef and cabbage slider was good and about what you'd expect. The Shepard's pie potato skin was nicely done in a compact size with good sauce. The Red Hot Royalty (spicy hot dog with fixings on top) was satisfying and about what you'd expect when looking at the picture. And the sausage roll was very nice because that curried ketchup made it special. The only thing that was a little not-great was they had a World Cup drink bundle that apparently overrode their usual Happy Hour discount on the beer - would have been nice to know about that beforehand as it would have changed my drink order. Or for them to acknowledge that it wasn't clear and just give the usual happy hour pricing for beer. Not a huge deal, just a bit subpar but didn't dock a star for that.

Our server was sweet, attentive, and generous with the soda refills, but by "coursing" our meal, we were left waiting for food and stuck there two hours, from seating to check. In her defense, she offered a dessert to make up for a forgotten appetizer. It's also a little too bright and noisy for me. As for the food, it was hit and miss. The Wedge is fine. The homemade crisps with ricotta dip were fine. The double smash burger is beefy and cheesy and filling, but a little one dimensional (pickle and mustard would help). My cocktail was judged Weak from my alcohol-sensitive wife. The Brookie is very sweet- it's like eating fudge, so if you love eating frosting straight from the can or you're the Fly, you'll love it. As for the ultra dry, weapon-grade hard, bavarian pretzel, you'll need to eat it Joey Chestnut style, soaking it in a glass of water before eating it.

If you're hoping to sit inside, I'd definitely recommend making a reservation. The service was wonderful from start to finish. My friend and I both ordered the smash burger and I've got to say it was easily one of the best burgers I've had in a long time. The meat was perfectly cooked and seasoned so well. The sweet potato fries were crispy on the outside, fluffy on the inside, and absolutely delicious. And whatever you do, DO NOT skip the bread pudding. It was a 1000/10! Not overly sweet, perfectly balanced, and the texture was incredible. If you're on the fence about dessert, just order it, you won't regret it. The only minor downside was that the sodas were very flat and tasted a bit syrupy. Other than that, everything was fantastic. The prices were reasonable, the portions were generous, and the overall experience was excellent for such a cute spot in downtown Los Gatos. Will definitely be returning soon!

Our server was Therese who took excellent care of us. She was welcoming, friendly, and attentive. Also, the manager came around to check up on us, to make sure we didn't have last calls right before the kitchen closed. That was considerate. We decided on ordering the... Grilled Pork Chop: bourbon marinated grilled peach compote, peach, red onion & tomato salad (4/5). The presentation was gorgeous. A Sous vide pork chop with grill marks cooked to a medium temperature. Savory and complemented with the tangy, spicy, and tart salad. A tad heavy handed on the salt for the sauce, otherwise, it was still delicious. Gnocchi Ragu: lamb bolognese, pecorino (4/5). The meat sauce was delicious. The gnocchi itself was sizeable and decent. Fries (4/5) - medium shoe string cut fries that were hot, crispy, and lightly seasoned. So fresh and right out of the deep fryer. Parkside Bread Pudding: vanilla gelato, pecan praline (4/5). This was delicious. Therese was told by the kitchen staff that they unfortunately ran out of the pecan praline when she brought it out. Though, it was still decadent and divine. Therese even brought us a complimentary beignets for a birthday celebration. We will be back! Brisket Sisig was different in a good way with grilled onions and tender brisket. Ribs were juicy. Lumpia was crunchy and was complemented perfectly with the mango chili sauce. Our drinks were refreshing. Overall we enjoyed our experience at the Cats Restaurant. The staff were friendly and accommodating. I found the price to be fair especially for AYCE Texas BBQ. The vibe was bustling and welcoming. Unfortunately we did not hear the live band that was gonna perform since we had to leave to our next engagement. My only gripe was the entrance back to the freeway can be a little hard especially at night and if you have to go on highway 17 towards San Jose. I do hope to come back to bring other family and friends.

The 'buffet' was like 4 trays of food that wasn't even hot. The menu said there were way more…read moreoptions than there actually were--like there wasn't pancit even though the menu listed it. For $35 too, a total let down. On top of that, I found not one, not two, but THREE bugs in my drink. I told staff and they apologized and asked if I wanted them to remake it, and I said no I'd prefer it was just taken off the check. He acted confused, left, then came back and said they were investigating the source of the bugs and asked again if I wanted them to remake it, I said no again. I truthfully lost my entire appetite after that. They did not comp the drink. I paid $15 for a drink I only had one sip of before realizing it was full of bugs. Oh and there's an extra charge if you don't pay with cash too? I was really excited to finally try this place out and was very sadly let down. Sincerely wish I had better things to say.

We had a mix of dishes; Meatball side as an app, bread, Pasta Primavera, Burrata Pizza Pie, and I did a repeat of the Tagliatelle Bolognese... all delicious, especially w a bottle of cab. Energetic service from Westin, who was hustling. The busser is also alert and ready to neaten up the table. I had a bout of Peppermill envy again. Get the fresh pepper. It's worth the scene. The Pastaria is noticeably where the LG ladies seem to gather, so that is good. Haha.

*Vegetarian Foodie Review*…read more Went here with a group of friends for the first time. Ordered: 1) Garlic Bread: 5/5 - Tasted super fresh and garlicky without too much cheese, exactly the way I like it. 2) Walnut Pesto Linguine: 2/5 - It sounded super interesting, so I ordered it. First of all, the dish didn't look appealing at all. I get that it's called walnut pesto, but there were way too many walnuts. As for the pasta itself, it tasted very bland, not flavorful at all. My friend and I ordered the same dish and we both felt the same way, couldn't get past 2 spoonfuls. 3) Pasta Primavera (white wine cream sauced swapped for pink sauced - red and white combined): 5/5 - ordered this for my 5 year old, and omg it was amazing and full of flavor. 4) Burrata Pizza: 5/5 - A very interesting combination of toppings. Must try, do not miss it! 5) Port Belly Pizza (ordered without the pork, made vegetarian): 4/5 - pretty good and flavorful. 6) Pink Gin & Elderflower Tonic (mocktail): 3/5 - Nothing great. I don't drink alcohol at all, so I am not sure how mock gin should taste like. 7) Tiramisu: 4/5 - above average compared to most places. Not soggy or dry - it was good. 8) Brownie Sundae: 3/5 - I had a lot of expectations for this one, but it turned out to be meh, the brownie chunks should have been warm; instead they were pretty hard in texture. They should have warmed it before serving it with the gelato. The taste was good though. Definitely coming back, but I would stick to ordering pizza or the pasta primavera next time. The pizza, bread, etc. were super fresh, and you could feel that in every bite. The ambiance is awesome, you could come here for special occasions with friends and family. Our server was very attentive, gave us good recommendations, and was super nice to us.
