Tried Hero Ranch Kitchen for my husband's birthday last Tuesday night. We found street parking about a block away and reported to the outside stand for our 7 pm reservation. The hostess was very friendly and showed us to our table. We had a table inside, which was an intimate upscale casual area with a bar. We ordered the stuffed mushrooms for a starter. It was so hard to pick one because everything on the menu sounds so good. Alas, I have a small appetite. The mushrooms were very tasty and a nice start to our meal. For entrees, we had the halibut and prime filet with a side of broccolini. Everything was cooked perfectly and was delicious. Drinks are on the pricey side- I had a Hero Old Fashioned and the Taylor Made, $20 each. They were nicely crafted, so worth the price. They brought out a Carmel Popcorn Sundae for my husband's birthday and even gave him a birthday card which I thought was a nice touch. Service was slow and steady. We had ample time to enjoy our food without feeling rushed, but never felt like our server forgot about us. We spent about 2 hours for dinner. Probably not a place to go if you're in a hurry. I'm eager to return and try some more of the starters. It's the kind of place I'd love to take out of town guests - high quality fine dining in a casual and relaxed environment. read more

I took my partner out for our anniversary to Hero Ranch Kitchen and made reservations with OpenTable with a note about it being our special day. The restaurant had a nice visual ambience, but also felt casual as there was a lot of chatter, which isn't a bad thing depending on what you're looking for. Our waiter was especially friendly and helped us decide what to order. I really wish I could remember his name, as I'm posting this a bit late, but he was a huge reason why we had a great experience! Here's a quick rating on the food itself: Stuffed mushrooms (3.5/5): This was recommended by the waiter as a favorite among patrons. The mushrooms weren't bad or anything, but for some reason, it gave me combination pizza vibes that I wasn't expecting. It was good, but I wouldn't go out of my way to order it again personally. Bone-in ribeye (5/5): an amazing cut that was cooked perfectly. Exactly what you would expect from a good steakhouse. The compound butter was fantastic! Bone-in apricot glazed pork chop (3.5/5): this one may hit different for different folks. The pork was perfectly cooked and juicy, but the apricot glaze was definitely a little too sweet for our palettes. If you're looking for something more savory, I might try something else. But hey, sweet might be your thing too! Caramel popcorn sundae (4.5/5): we got this one complimentary for being our special day, which was a really nice surprise! And it was a full serving! This one was obviously sweet, but surprisingly more subdued than it sounds, which was really nice! Overall, it was truly a memorable night with great food. And though some things didn't quite work for our palettes, I can totally see that it may for others--so that didn't impact my ratings because they were still good--just not for us. Stopped by Hero Ranch Kitchen on a Friday evening before heading to the Mountain Winery. We didn't have reservations and I was hoping we'd get seated since I arrived a few minutes before they opened. Thankfully we didn't have any issues getting in, but in the future I will make a reservation ahead of time. Our waitress was Jasmine who was so, so nice and friendly. We decided to split the ribs and order a couple of appetizers, lamb chops and green beans. I must say, the appetizers were amazing. The ribs were good but slightly overdone, making them a bit dry. I was not impressed with the onion rings that came with the ribs, but the coleslaw was good. Drinks were delicious. I got the Trop it like it's hot, which was tangy and spicy. This is one of my very favorite new American restaurants! Ever since going I've told countless people about it and will definitely be returning. Loved this restaurant because everything was done to perfection and had multiple homemade parts. We tried the pork chops with the homemade tzatziki and that was fantastic!! Would 10/10 order again. Another huge hit was the bacon cornbread bites. Something you really can't recreate at home better than this and highly recommend. We also got the Braised Short Rib Pappardelle. We ate every bite and it was delicious, but if I were to go again I might swap this out for something else. Lastly, if you're there when they have their seasonal peach salad, that was a must get for me. The fried goat cheese on top was truly divine. The service was exceptional. HRK is one of my most favorite local restaurants, I love coming here myself and also introducing it to friends. The vibe is casual but thoughtfully done; not disappointing for a romantic dinner or special occasion but also impossible to feel underdressed in. Our server was great: funny, checked in often, and had excellent suggestions. I've always enjoyed the drinks at HRK but this time I was blown away! I ordered the Tropical Like its Hot and I loved the perfect amount of heat in it and the passion fruit flavor. Friends ordered 4 other drinks that I tried and I would've happily had their choices as well! I'm picky about cocktails and I couldn't believe that I enjoyed enjoyed every one that I tried! We had the truffle fries and lamp chops as appetizers. The lamb chops were mouth watering and memorable, absolutely cooked to perfection. I wish the truffle fries had more truffle flavor but I know that's not everyone's preference. For entrees, thee of us split the halibut and the risotto with scallops (basically we asked to add scallops to the risotto). Both plates were perfection. The scallops were perfectly cooked (as always), the halibut was tender and flavorful, and the risotto had nuances in every bite that I savored. Lastly, we split the Carmel popcorn sundae and butter cake for dessert. I am very much not a butter cake person yet I think this is such a special end to a meal; you start enjoying it by scent alone the second the plate hits the table! Four of us ordered: grilled octopus $24 beet salad $18 fork and knife caesar $16 ranch platter $275 butter cake $16 The Ranch platter included a 38 oz tomahawk, 4 Australian lamb chops, 2 lobster tails, truffle fries, grilled asparagus, and onion rings. Brianna was our server and she did a great job taking care of us...ultimately pushing this to a 5 star experience! Grilled octopus was definitely a big winner! I'm not sure if the ranch platter was necessarily worth it for the quantity of food, but definitely a great platter of food for a good photo op. Street parking only. I didn't think I would like them, but I really enjoyed the sauce. I got the salmon and while it was good, I think it was lacking something. The goat cheese was on top and it was fried. The patio was not as romantic as I was hoping. My date and I both had to use the restroom. The drawback is that because it's outside and only 2, I feel like we spent most of the time waiting in line. Spontaneously came here for dinner and it was delicious. I started with the tomato salad and it was so fresh and flavorful. The burrata was creamy and the crostini was the perfect vehicle for it all. The street corn was perfectly tangy, sweet, and spicy. Love that the corn is fresh off the cob. I also ordered a side of onion rings with the poblano aioli and they were great together. Haven't had a dinner this great in a LONG time which was a shocker because I've had nothing but bad experiences at their sister restaurant next door. My friend came to hero ranch a month ago and loved it so much she decided to have her birthday dinner there. Our experience was nothing short of amazing. We were seated outside right on time for our reservation. The patio was cute and inviting. Immediately we got fantastic service from both our waitress and the support staff. We started with the octopus, sushi bites and burrata. The sushi bites came with 3 but we added two more. We all loved them. The octopus was cooked perfectly and the salad pairing was great. The burrata was nothing to write home about since it's a simple dish but still yummy. For my entree I had the sea bass. It was SO good. The portion was great and I loved the white sauce they put on there. My friends got the porkchop (maybe the best porkchop I've ever had?) the rigatoni, and the filet. For the table we got Brussels and truffle fries. There was nothing that we didn't love. For dessert they gave us a complimentary butter cake and popcorn ice cream. Super unique and delicious. Overall I LOVED hero ranch. It is a little on the pricier side but it is meant to be a nice restaurant and I can appreciate that they actually have good sized portions. We've been going to The Hero Ranch Kitchen for quite some time now, and we try to visit at least once a month, if not twice. The staff are incredibly kind, friendly, and professional, and they always go out of their way to take care of their customers. I can only think of wonderful things to say about the entire team. We've never felt rushed, and the food is impeccable. My favorite dishes -- and my daughter's -- are the pan‑seared salmon and the pan‑seared halibut. My partner loves the Black Angus burger and Mary's rosemary chicken. The stuffed mushrooms and the fried chicken with cornbread are our favorite shared plates, and the berry cobbler is our go‑to dessert. The ambiance is warm and inviting. We always dine outside, and the heat lamps, blankets, and cozy chairs make it perfect. This is truly our favorite restaurant, and we will continue to come often. read more

I was craving steak and saw that this place had good reviews and had an available last minute reservation on a Friday night so I took the leap and booked it. It was a mistake. We arrived for our 7:30pm reservation at 7:25 and checked in with the hostess. She said that the table before us was still there and we would have to wait a bit, sure that's fine. About 10 minutes later, we see another group of 3 arrive and they were told they would be seated closer to 8pm (assuming that was their reservation time). At around 7:55, we still were not seated. Then, we see the group of 3 (same party size) that arrived 10 min after us, with a LATER reservation time than us, get seated first. Great start, it gets better. The hostess gives us 1 menu for 3 people, and says she'll be back with 2 more. She doesn't come back...... we ask another waiter for 2 more menus, we watch as she scrambles around, doesn't come back until 5 minutes later. Then literally 30 seconds after we were handed the other 2 menus, our actual waiter comes by and was like "are you ready to order?" I wish I was making this up. Our waiter, Tim, was overly friendly, like talked way too much to the point it was annoying. On to the food, we ordered 3 appetizers, the ahi tuna tower, the tempura green beans, and the crab cakes. All 3 were mid to be honest for the price point. Nothing really stood out that much, pretty much standard steakhouse fare. I also ordered the Taylor Made cocktail and it was way too sweet for my liking. There was a special for a jumbo lobster which my partner ordered. He loved it. My dad and I ordered the 7 oz prime filet at medium rare, and both were overcooked. My dad's was to the point it was medium well. Overall, not a good experience. The 2 fumbles in the beginning of our experience here were hard to recover from. I guess I had higher expectations for a restaurant that's rated so highly. read more

A great spot for date night! This place is bustling and can get busy, we opted to make a reservation in advance on OpenTable. Food: - Fried Cheese Curds: crispy and cheesy - what's not to love? - Stuffed Mushrooms: thought it was just okay overall - 16oz Bone-In Ribeye: the steak was cooked perfectly to the requested medium-rare. The ribeye had some chunks of fat that mix well with the meatier pieces. My boyfriend loved the ribeye. - Braised Short Rib Rigatoni: there was a decent amount of short rib in the pasta. The pasta was cooked well. Overall it was good. Service: Our waiter was great - super friendly and attentive despite it being a busy weeknight during dinner rush. The hostess outside however, she did not smile once and came off cold. When we walked up to her, she didn't even say hi or greet us. She definitely gave off the impression that she did not want to be there and was annoyed, which wasn't a great first impression when you get to the restaurant. Hero Ranch has been on our bucket list for a while, and we finally crossed it off the list. Let me tell you, it did not disappoint. We came on a quiet Sunday evening. There was parking on the street, restaurant was fairly quiet since our reservation was at 730pm. I highly recommend making a reservation. We were greeted and seated immediately. The staff even gave us an anniversary card which was great. We sat outside, there were heaters everywhere. Great start! For starters, we went with the lobster sliders. These are a MUST try. They normally come in 3's but they brought ours out in 4's because there was 2 of us. They were amazing! There was plenty of lobster chunks, it tasted so fresh and clean. The bun was nice and soft. I highly recommend trying these. We're coming back next time just to get them. For our main entrees, I went with the 16oz ribeye, medium rare. My fiancee went with the pork chop. The steak was cooked to perfection, very well seasoned and topped with butter. It was very tender and I enjoyed every single bite. It also came with asparagus, and a cheesy potato side. The potato was delicious. I couldn't have asked for a better dish. My fiancee's pork chop was nice and thick, well seasoned and was super tender. The apricot sauce was great. She really enjoyed her dish. We also tried the peach salad. I wasn't too big of a fan, but my fiancee absolutely loved it. She loved the big piece of friend goat cheese. She said it was very fresh, clean and had great flavor. She loves greens. :) For our dessert, we went with the butter cake, and the staff was nice enough to bring us the caramel popcorn with ice cream. The butter cake was to die for, light but still had a nice texture. I had every bite with a slice of strawberry and it was a great way to end the meal. I had a few scoops of ice cream of course. Delicious way to end a fantastic meal. We were both were impressed with the staff, especially Amanda, our waitress. She was very calm, very attentive, and checked up on us often. We had an amazing first time at The Hero Ranch Kitchen in Saratoga, and brought along a friend who was visiting the Bay Area and my hubby and I relied on Yelp for local suggestions. We decided to try this place--and it absolutely did not disappoint. From the moment we walked in and checked in, to our superb server, Amanda, the experience was seamless. The restaurant was cozy and clean, and we were seated in a lovely inside corner by the window--making it comfortable and just right for our group. The food was "oh-la-la" delicious: we began with stuffed mushrooms and lamb appetizers, followed by a crisp wedge salad. For mains, we shared the bone-in ribeye and baby rack ribs among the three of us--so much flavor and so satisfying! We were too full for dessert, so I guess we'll simply have to return and save room next time (ha ha)! Overall, this was a memorable evening of great food, excellent service, and a wonderful time with friends. On our next visit and will definitely make sure to save room for dessert! read more

Great for our out of town guests, we got to experience the seasonal, farm to table menu of The Hero Ranch Kitchen. HRK is the perfect balance of comfort food, classics, and the unique twist on a traditional dish. In the winter, they have a covered, heated outdoor patio as well as an indoor dining room. Fair warning this time of year- they keep the dining room door open the entire time so the room can get quite cold. The staff is attentive and friendly, ready to give you a recommendation or time to peruse more over the menu. Because let me tell you, it will be difficult to pick just one entree. Or appetizer. We're so excited to go back just so we can try some of the other amazing things on the menu. Standouts definitely were the pan-seared scallops (the flavor combo over the four not-too-big, not-too-small scallops is devine), halibut, ribs (large and fall off the bone with the biggest onion rings you've ever seen), and the filet (impressively tender and perfectly cooked). To start, the two crab cakes and tempura green beans were both delicious. At the end they surprised our birthday guest with a sundae - two scoops of ice cream over caramel popcorn and mascarpone whipped cream. I'm not a fan of caramel popcorn and this was fantastic. Hidden gem of HRK- you can bring up to SIX bottles with no corkage, with each after six costing $25/bottle. Talk about another reason to come back! They had a 3 course special on Valentine's day. You prepay when booking (I don't know how much, my partner won't share!) They gave complimentary drinks when you walk in, which was really nice. We started off with the grilled octopus which was delicious. I loved the charred lemon, it brightened the dish in a mellow way. The octopus was chewy but not rubbery and nicely grilled. We also got the prime fillet as the entree. I requested the truffle butter on the side. The scalloped potatoes weren't my favorite. I thought they would be separated but it was layered like a lasagna. The cheese between the layers gave it a hard bite to it. For dessert, I got the flourless chocolate cake which was delicious, and the scoop of vanilla ice cream was the perfect compliment to the hot, very chocolatey dessert. Last night 6 of us went for a pre Mother's Day dinner at Hero Ranch. We were seated outside in a corner at a round table. Our server was Kaitlyn. The whole night was fabulous! The corner table was perfect for our little group, Kaitlyn was funny and knowledgeable and just the right level of attentive. We had a few appetizers and bubbly, then moved on to our main course. We ordered the prime filet, the branzino, the lamb, and the pork chop. We had the beet salad, the wedge salad, the Brussels salad and the Caesar salad. Every single thing we had was delicious. We brought wine with us as we knew there is no corkage fee at Hero Ranch. We shared 3 desserts... The flourless chocolate cake, the berry cobbler and the popcorn sundae. Again, all wonderful. We ordered the ranch platter which was delicious, but it is pricey for 4 ppl. I personally think the portions were more for 2-3 ppl. We are big eaters!! Everyone got a very small serving of each item, but every item was well made. It's a must try at least once, but won't probably order on the next visit. Booked dinner for Christmas Eve for a party of 6. Excellent customer service and ease in getting reservations. We sat in the back room which was nice since we were protected from the cold and the temperature in there was just right. Our server was Issac and he was attentive and very friendly. Since I have been eating a lot of steak for the holidays I opted for the pan seared scallops and wow it was soooo good. My wife also got the pan seared hallibet and she wasn't sure of it with an egg but really enjoyed it too. The kids had the bolognese short ribs and ate it all up!!! It's so pretty and nice inside, dimly lit - I enjoyed my pork chop a lot - the apricot sauce added a lot to the experience and there's so much food - The crab cake was a tasty dessert - They had a nice birthday dessert for my dad and the bread pudding was so tasty too! This was our first time at Hero Ranch Kitchen and we were excited to try it out! We had some good and some bad that will probably stop us from returning. The good: - The food was tasty. The portion sizes are not the largest, but this means you can try more! Highlight for us was the stuffed mushrooms. Only 4 small mushrooms on the skillet, I could've eaten 12 they were so tasty. - Wine is priced at grocery store prices. We enjoyed a wine from one of our favorite spots in Paso Robles for cheaper than we got it at the winery. The bad: - We had two appetizers, two filet mignons, a dessert and a bottle of wine, which with tip came out to ~$310. As we were finishing our glasses, a different waiter than the one who served us stopped by and kindly asked us to leave as "the next people set for his service were waiting outside in the cold". This was right at the 90 minute mark. If the restaurant was busy, I would have understood, but there were multiple open two tops and four tops in the space we were in. Really left a bad taste in our mouths after spending a fair amount of money for a nice meal. My wife downed the rest of her wine quickly and we left.
